| #1 Posted on 14.5.03 1223.40 | I just read this on pwtorch.com. Raw's rating was up this week from a 3.5 to a 4.4.
Anyone else think Triple H and Nash will take the credit?
My money's on Austin. He's been great as co-GM so far.

| #4 Posted on 14.5.03 1233.59 | well based on the quarterly hour ratings posted by 1Wrestling, the 10pm quarter hour with the Goldberg/Christian & Hurricane/Flair matches got the highest rating of the night at 4.9. Then the number dropped down from there. So you know what that means....

| #6 Posted on 14.5.03 1237.55 | It could be because they advertised TWO main events on Raw for the first time in ages.
But my money's on the fact that the New People's Champ drew the ratings

| #7 Posted on 14.5.03 1312.57 | It's pretty simple to me. They did a 4.9 peak rating for the Austin beer bath so those viewers liked what they saw and tuned in this week.
This week they stuck around to see the Goldberg match but not so many stayed around to see the Nash match. SHOCKING, I know.
My only worry is that the average wrestling fan probably thinks that Austin's injury is just a work and they're expecting him to wrestle again soon. What will they do when they finally realize that it's not an angle and he really won't be wrestling? They did a good job this week of having Austin interact with Christian, RVD, Kane, Teddy Long, The Hurricane, and hopefully giving these guys a bit of a rub through promos. | Ringmistress

Goldberg's match on raw gets a massive rating and drops down after.
WWE creams their pants about the rating and will be sending press releases out to brag about the ratings jump.
Goldberg doesn't have a match on the PPV.

| #12 Posted on 14.5.03 1412.46 | You just KNOW that LOD are going to appear on some radio show this weekend, claiming they were the reason for the jump. Even though they weren't advertised and all that...
But seriously, I really do hope its Goldberg behind the jump. Maybe this will show the WWE that if they push someone the right way (have him matched up in a logical, semi-meaningful matches to build his legend), they will take the ball and run with it.

| #13 Posted on 14.5.03 1433.12 | Wow, I expected a bit of a bounce back from last weeks rating but nothing as high as a 4.4
Looks like the cage match got them a good spike mid-show, but overall I'd put it down to what I would consider to be the continuing improvement of writing on RAW.
I doubt the ratings'll stay as high over the next couple of weeks, but anything around a 4.0 would be pretty good considering what we've seen lately.

Actually, Flair-Hurricane was at the end of the same 4.9 quarter hour as the Goldberg-Christian match. And who stood tall at the end of Flair-Hurricane? HHH. That's when the ratings fell for the remainder of the show.

1. Ratings are recorded quarter hourly. The idea that everyone tuned out the second HHH came on is misguided to say the least. People were tuning in partly because it was Goldberg, partly because it was a cage match and partly because the match had been hyped since last week. Naturally when it finshed, a lot of people tuned out. Same thing happened last week after the HHH/Nash brawl. Numbers went up during it before tailing off when it finished.
2. Ratings did not fall for the remainder of the show. They started to tune out after the Goldberg quarter hour before going back up to a 4.4 (still much better than the WWE's been doing of late) for the Nash/Jericho fight which was always going to involve HHH

| #19 Posted on 14.5.03 2117.59 | Anyone ever wonder if dumb luck factors into ratings jumps?
It's not Austin. Austin came back a while ago, popped a rating for all of a week, and then everything went back down. Then he left again. He came back without popping a rating. And now his mere presence abitrarily wills people to watch him and him alone again?
Is it Goldberg? Maybe. Perhaps the way to draw money with a guy who can't speak well is to...gulp...put him in the ring.
Is it Flair and Hurricane? Flair's returns drew ratings aplenty for WCW. But toward the end they weren't making a difference of over a million people. And Hurricane's just a comedy act, I doubt he's a ratings giant.
So maybe the reason the rating popped is because, hell, it just did. Randomly enough, people felt like a little wrestling last week. And it was a good show, so maybe some of them will be back next week.
