I don't see a thread yet so, I guess this can merge into a better one when one gets written.

Well, that was one way to end a match that I actually waited up to see. If I'm going to watch a plodding championship main event like that at least give me something more than random confusion on a bait and switch match with no title change.

Micky James was the highlight of the show although for some reason I was into the wackiness of the Tag Team match as well. It's a tornado thing.

The Kind was way off his game tonight and really sounded lost out there.

If there was any doubt after last night about a Vince/Shawn match at WM, I think tonight cleared it up, with Vince saying he'd fight Shawn on his terms....I'm surprised RVD/Snitsky went so long. RVD did look rusty (especially when he audibly yelled "Shit!" after slipping on the ropes), but sometimes it was hard to tell if it was rust or his usual array of missed moves....Isn't amazing how bland Dustin Rhodes is playing himself, and yet how "in character" and how perfect he portrays Goldust?. Personally, I thought Viscera would be the one to surprise Mama....

Triple H/Chavo was a good TV match. Seemingly, the more they reference Eddy, the more tasteless it seems. I wasn't really offended by it here though, for some reason. Maybe because I'm so used to it?....Another solid backstage Masters/Carlito segment....The tag title match wasn't very good....Goldust/Shelton was okay, helped by Goldust's antics. I liked Mama having oxygen there....They're really dragging this Ashley/Mickie/Trish thing out, aren't they? Tonight's angle really didn't accomplish much, IMO....

Interesting ending to the main event match (which I thought was a bit better than last night's offering). I like the continuity of the former champ and the rematch clause, but I think it'd be more fun if they didn't cash it in the very next night. The crowd was hot for this and the previous segment, which added to them.

Q: Is chunky Goldust funnier than skinny Goldust?
A: I like to give golden showers.

Okay. The angle has been going for weeks now, and although I'm certain that Vince intends to "screw" Shawn Michaels, I'm still not entirely sure as to when, how, or even exactly why he intends to do this (other than "because he can 'cuz he's Vince McMahon").

Yay! RVD is back. He's positively flaking with ring rust, though. Felt bad for him after he blew a few spots and the crowd started the "boring" chant. But how exciting could the match be, though, given that it was against Gene Snitsky. It's not as though Gene is renowned for his ability to really let his opponents shine.

Mickey James is the worst actress in the WWE since Lita.... and Sable. And Nidia. And..... And..... And.... after seeing their outfits tonight, I was hoping Ashley was going to confess her love for Trish.... And... And... oh, never mind.

John Cena is the worst in-ring performer since Snitsky. Okay, maybe that's an overstatement, but when you suck so much that Edge has to carry you through a rest hold, you suck a lot.

RAW just felt kind of there tonight. I didn't come out of watching the show liking or disliking it. I guess part of the problem is coming off the Royal Rumble, I was expecting more to happen. Some random thoughts:

- I thought the promo from Edge at the beginning of the show was a nice change of pace, in that it actually gave a reason (he doesn't want to go down as a transitional champion) for the typical night-after-the-PPV rematch.

- The Michaels/McMahon segment: I don't find it too surprising that a vocal part of the crowd booed the prospect of a match between the two, but I was taken aback when they also seemed to boo when Michaels said he won't go back to the days of drugs and alcohol because he loves his family. As offensive as that would've been, I almost feel that that's the direction they SHOULD have taken this in, as it could've added another dimension to Michaels' character that he sorely needs. Sure, it'd be stupid and goofy (and a little too reminiscent of that awful "Hawk's on painkillers" angle), but I feel like for the past three years Shawn Michaels hasn't really had a character or angle other than the fact that he's Shawn Michaels, with the exception of his three-week heel turn during the feud with Hogan (which was incredible, IMO).

- I know he was with Snitsky in there, but Rob Van Dam seemed to confirm what I saw last night at the Rumble...he's REALLY rusty, and his timing seems off. I have to wonder if opting for the full year off was the wisest decision on his part.

- How many pervert gimmicks - Viscera, Val Venis, and Goldust - are going to interact with Mama Benjamin before the novelty wears off? Answer - two.

- The insinuation that Rey Mysterio won the Royal Rumble because of Eddy's ghost, and that the same ghost wouldn't help his own nephew in a match against HHH, makes me...uncomfortable. That's the only word I can use to describe it.

- I'm a little disappointed that they're not going to make Masters/Carlito a permanent tag team, since it seems to work. Especially since being in a tag team would be the best way for Masters to learn right now. That being said, I can definitely see improvement in the little nuances, which is what's important for him at this stage in his career.

- I think Mickie James is a little underrated in terms of what she does in the ring, and I also think she plays that character to perfection. Despite the bad matches it's produced, this has actually been one of the better booked feuds/angles of late. On a semi-related note, I was given the impression last week that the Spirit Squad were Coach's goons...have they just decided to drop that, or was that never the plan?

- I thought Edge/Cena had a much better match tonight than they did last night. It helped that the crowd seemed to be more into Cena than the crowd at the Rumble, so they could afford to have him get more offense in. I still think the character needs further tweaking and he should definitely have chased for the title longer than he did, but if tonight's any indication than maybe him as champion isn't a COMPLETE lost cause. And man, was that a weird finish to that match or what?

Thoughts:
-The time warp continues, as Goldust has job again. Wow.
-Mickie James continues to be one of my favorite parts of the show, especially her calling Joan of Arc, Queen Elizabeth & Angelina Jolie dimestore hookers compare to Trish Stratus. Great delivery.
-Chavo/HHH was damn good, and I liked how they seem to give a crap about Chavo now.
-Oh, Spirit Squad...I think the gimmick is delightfully obnoxious enough to work, I just want to see them in the ring. Awesome touch doing the "Hey Trish, you're so fine!" chant to the tune of "Mickey".
-WHY WHY WHY won't Vince just drop Montreal already? Honestly, it's been over EIGHT YEARS. The irony is that if Vince had dropped it a few years ago, Bret Hart probably would've come back by now.
-I like the interactions between Carlito & Masters, but don't think it'll lead to anything good in the ring.
-Shit, RVD is SLOPPY.
-Maria is awesome.
-Cena/Edge continues to be...Cena/Edge.

I know that as wrestling fans we are expected to just excuse lapses in logic sometimes to advance storylines, matches, etc. However, the laziness of the writers these days causes an abnormally large volume of these lapses in logic and it is making it damn near impossible to ignore them.

So now, wrestlers can get sued for hitting Vince McMahon in the ring? That's the best reason they can come up with to explain why HBK wouldn't just start punching away at Vince's butt chin? Maybe they should follow it up next week with HBK threatening to sue Shane McMahon for attacking him from behind. Maybe threaten to sue if he doesn't get a match vs. Vince or Shane.

Also, why wouldn't Vince just fire Shawn if that's really what he wants? What's stopping him? Why does he need flimsy reasons like Shawn hitting him or Shawn losing a match?

And, what the hell was that ending to the main event? Edge's manager/valet interferes in the match and Edge gets the DQ win? I know Lita hit Edge, but it still doesn't make sense, IMO. Also, shouldn't Edge be pissed at this? That was his one guaranteed rematch and now it's squandered.

The Chris Masters character is being made to look like a total dimwit. How many times is Carlito going to have to screw over this nitwit before he stops teaming with him?

I like that it looks like Shelton Benjamin will be in an IC Title feud with Ric Flair (maybe culminating at Wrestlemania). Hopefully, this will provide some interesting interaction between Flair and Mama Benjamin while also providing good matches and ending with Shelton getting another run with the IC belt.

Why did Jerry Lawler and Coach say numerous times that it was "unprecedented" to have a rematch of the previous night's PPV main event on the Raw one night later? Without even putting much thought into it, I can think of at least twice that it happened (Stone Cold vs. Kane after Kane won the WWE Championship and Stone Cold vs. Rock after Wrestlemania X7).

Yes, you are expected to forget about reality and about what happened a few short years ago. Nothing new either.
And while I agree that it's reasons are flimsy and far fetched I do believe there are some motives behind what takes place.

1. Vince could possibly sue anyone but he choses not to. He's a vengeful bastard who would rather screw with someone than sue them.

2. Edge got the DQ *win* and will probably find a way to get another match out of it. Sure beats getting pinned cleanly after the FU and going back to the end of the line.

3. Chris Masters (who looks the part of a dimwit) is being portrayed as a dimwit who doesn't really notice the street smart Carlito is messing with him. It could lead to Carlito becoming a cool heel, then a cool face. I like it.

4. Although I am sure that it has happened since 2001, 5 years is long enough for WWE to claim it is unprecedented and never been done before (Heh..if Sting has had amnesia since 2001, why not Lawler and Coach?)

Joey Styles also had this thing going during the Edge/Cena match where he was trying to get over the fact that they were pulling out all the stops and doing totally new moves no one has done before. The problem was, the two moves he said it for were the frankensteiner and the Edge O Matic. Frankensteiner: "Oh my god! I have never seen anyone take someone off the top rope that way before!" Edge O Matic: "Edge is coming up with new moves tonight to do anything he can to put John Cena away!"

I actually dug the main event, and I think it was one of Cena's best matches to date. The spot where Edge had him in the facelock/body scissors combo and had to try to keep his own shoulders off the mat was especially cool, and you don't see a lot of holds executed that tell a story like that. The finish was weird, but if it leads to a rematch where Edge gets the title back, then I can get behind it.

I might be mistaken, but I thought he was saying that Edge & Cena were using moves that they don't traditionally use. I certainly didn't see anything completely new, but they did seem to work extra hard in this match. In fact, they put on a better match Monday than they did for the Royal Rumble from what I heard about Sunday.

An odd, odd show. On one hand, I like that Triple H sold so well for Chavo, and if you Tivo the sloppy DDT, you see Triple H barely escaped serious injury. But on the other, this Trish/James angle is older than my wife. Just turn one of them and get it over with.

I was convinced that Kane/Show were going to lose their belts when Kane hit the turnbuckle flares before the match. And then they win, but not in a squash. The bonus is that it was a good match. Carlito is winning me over, making me the last wiener to hop aboard his bandwagon.

I am not digging Shawn/Vince, and I'm not sure why Shane would be Vince's thug when he has a whole crew of muscleheads to do his dirty work. This is sold as Vince's beef with Shawn, but it's really a McMahon Family fued with him. I can only see his participation making sense if Shane becomes the new GM, and I look forward to more Sesame Street references in his on-ramp promos. (The C in WCW stands for cookie, and that's good enough for him.)

Then there was the main event, which saw Cena and Edge trade the offense unlike most Cena matches. It was working well until the freaky Mid-Atlantic finish. My guess: Lita is slowly losing her kind because of the upheaval of last year. She became Edge's slut after living as Kane's slave after working as Matt's girl. Her solemn look and actions suggested she has a plan, and I'm thinking the motives are based in trying to win back some self-control and self-esteem. But I don't want to see Edge become a supporting character in a Lita "Sybil" subplot as we head to WM.

Mark me down as one who continues to enjoy Mama Shelton and especially liked her work with Goldust. Kudos to whoever may have planted the Martin Lawrence sign right behind her.

That's the dude in the blue shirt & red hat that attends *a lot* of the shows. He's often close to the front row and brings a bunch of signs. They did a Confidential bit about him back when that show was on the air.

Nice to see Goldust has fully recovered from the stuttering problem he had last time on TV (or had he stopped by then?)

Why exactly is Vince screwing Shawn? Because Vince screwed Bret nine years ago in a match involving Shawn so therefore Shawn deserves equal treatment????? Speaking of logic leaps..

Hunter is pissed at Rey for winning the Rumble instead of him. Rey was good friends with the late Eddie Guerrero. Hunter believes the ghost of Eddie helped Rey win. Since he can't fight Eddie (ghost) or Rey (Smackdown) he is blaming Eddie's nephew Chavo and will kick his ass for revenge.
The crowd chants "Eddie" even though neither wrestler is named that and he is dead so it's not like he'll hear them backstage and do a run-in.
Just bizarre.
Nobody finds this exploitation of Eddie totally weird and uncomfortable? Two months after the tribute show and he's still part of the storylines? All of these wrestler deaths, yet I've just never seen any of them handled like this.

My bold prediction for next week (and the week after that and the week after that):
Mickie James declares her love for Trish Stratus. Trish appears flattered but uncomfortable and politely tries to get Mickie to back off. Mickie. blinded by love, doesn't get the message.
How'd I do? Am I psychic or what?

I make a distinction between the performer and the character, and I don't see them doing aything that besmirches (thanks Regal) the reputation of the man. Randy's SD comment (see the spoilers) is the closest to skirting the line, but again, he's talking about the character.

Besmirches, no, but using his real life death to get heel heat for their angles is incredibly creepy. I hope Eddie's family gets a main event payoff for the Rumble and No Way Out since he's being used to draw the buyrates. The fact that "Eddie Guerrero Is Dead" is the company's second longest-running angle behind Mickie James & Trish really says a lot -- especially when it's all been in the name of getting Randy Orton over as a heel. WWE Creative sure lucked into Eddie dying young.
