The Raw Booking Sheet

Welcome once more to yet another of my half-cocked stabs at making something coherent and-hopefully-enjoyable about the potential the WWE currently has. last time I tried this the whole shebang was scuppered by computer problems and general laziness. Hopefully this time I’ll manage to complete my plans in full, and give you a different-but not ridiculous-showing to what WWE is putting out right now. As before the format will take the shape of a quick recap of the show, making it easy for you to digest, and there will be no drastic departures from current WWE television. Instead, I’ll attempt to make a more logical program, one which I hope you can appreciate. read on!

WWE RAW-28/04/03

-The show opens with, as per usual, an in-ring gab segment, as Raw General Manager Eric Bischoff graces the live crowd with his presence. He welcomes the fans to the show and triumphantly introduces the clips from the previous night’s pay-per-view, including triple H’s victory and Goldberg’s match-ending Jackhammer. Bisch boasts over his brand’s claiming of the top two spots on the show, but insists that the staff of Raw do not rest on their laurels; that’s why, beginning tonight, a ten-man tournament will kick off the road to deciding the number one contender to the World Heavyweight Championship. But, unlike Stephanie McMahon and her poor excuse for a wrestling show, this won’t be any ordinary tournament, oh no; the five men who advance from the first round, plus one more competitor to be named by Bisch later, will go to Judgement Day to face each other...In the Elimination Chamber. The winner-if there can be such a thing in the Elimination Chamber, chuckles the GM-will go on to the first-ever Raw-exclusive PPV in June to face Triple H. And that, Bisch notes, is how you steal a show...

-After the night’s first commercial break, we return to find Chris Nowinski and Test ready to square off. Test, fresh off of his unfortunate night at Backlash, seems peeved, but Stacy is present in his corner as ever and doesn’t seem to care much about the events of the previous night. However, the bell hasn’t even rung when things change drastically: The sound of sirens welcomes out Scott Steiner to ringside, and test is immediately distracted as “Big Poppa Pump” lurks near to his girlfriend. The match starts and proceeds almost as per usual, with Test dominating through power moves and being much more aggressive than usual. Nowinski scores with a low blow at around the four minute mark, however, and Stacy leaps up to the apron to allow her man to catch a breather-but Steiner grabs her rather prominent behind and pulls her down. Far from being angry, Stacy seems quite pleased with Steiner’s advances-a fact which the recovering Test, having knocked down Nowinski, is extremely angered by. He reaches outside to grab Steiner, but Steiner shoves him back-and Nowinski capitalises with his full-nelson slam for the win at about five minutes. Nowinski high-tails it to the back as Stacy seems torn between helping her dazed boyfriend and going with Steiner-and, to everyone’s shock, she chooses the latter. An infuriated Test shouts after her, and she snaps back to her senses and runs back to the ring, leaving Steiner shaking his head at the top of the ramp...

-We head backstage to find the World Tag Team Champions warming up for their title defence against Three Minute Warning. RVD congratulates Kane on their victory at Backlash, but then turns serious; he’s willing to bet that Chief Morley is behind their match tonight, and while he might be more concerned with the Dudley Boyz right now his gaze is sure to turn back to them soon. What’s more, van Dam is sick of being beaten down by the odds, having everything he fights for unfairly taken. It happened last year against HHH-for both he and Kane-and it’s in danger of happening again with their tag team titles. That’s why he, R-V-D, has found them some “representation”, to help iron out their problems with authority and keep them from going down unfairly. Kane seems apprehensive, but van Dam assures him that everything’s cool...

-In the first big shock of the evening, RVD and Kane easily retain their titles over Three Minute Warning-with the support of their new agent, Paul Heyman. The crowd seem unsure about how to react to this development, as the grinning and gurning Heyman frantically encourages his men from ringside. The usual chokeslam/frog splash combo finishes Rosey at the three-minute mark, and Heyman scrambles into the ring and smugly raises van Dam’s hand. Kane, however, remains on the far side of the ring, regarding the new member to the team with great wariness...

-We come back from the break with Coach ready in the ring, microphone in hand. After a lengthy introduction, he welcomes Goldberg to the arena, to thunderous cheers from the crowd. Coach congratulates Goldberg on his massive win at Backlash, but now that he has proven himself against a star as huge as The Rock, what’s next? Goldberg smiles to himself and tells Coach exactly what’s next: He’s just been told by a member of staff backstage that he’s been entered into the Elimination Chamber tournament. He’ll smash through the first round, he’ll take out his five opponents at Judgement Day and then... Before he can finish that thought, however, the Y2J Countdown hits, and “Break The Walls Down” brings Chris Jericho out to the stage. “The King Of The World”, mic in hand, swaggers down the ramp, berating Goldberg for believing that life in the WWE is so easy. He thinks The Rock is a huge star? Well, he’s yet to be the ring with “The Living Legend”, the first-ever Undisputed Champion, Chris Jericho. Jericho climbs into the ring and stands face-to-face with his ex-WCW colleague then, after a tense silence, he....extends his hand? Jericho knows how hard it is to battle against the odds in the WWE, and he’s got respect for anybody who can succeed, just like him. Goldberg warily grasps Jericho’s hand, and they shake-but it is, of course, simply a ruse; a swift kick to the nuts puts Goldberg down, and Jericho flees, grinning evilly as the master of the spear roars with frustration in the ring...

-The first of the five qualifying matches takes place next, with Booker T seeing off healthy interference from HHH to put away Ric Flair with the Book-End. Flair controls early on after an H trip from the outside, but Book easily fights back at around four minutes. Hunter keeps his mentor in the game for another five minutes or so, but a quick forearm from Booker takes him out long enough for the five-time WCW Champion to get the win. Booker T is the first Raw Superstar to advance to the Elimination Chamber No.1 Contendership Match at Judgement Day....

-A distinctly nervous Chief Morley comes out for his singles match against Bubba Ray Dudley, but he seems to have something on his mind beforehand; he takes a microphone from ringside and sincerely apologises to both Dudley Boyz. He promises that this will be a fair fight, but lets slip that Lance Storm was knocked silly by Bubba at backlash and isn’t present. That brings out both Dudz, smiling evilly; Bubba rushes the ring and pounds on Morley, as D-Von goes to haul a table from under the ring. He’s met, however, by a blast of CO2 to the face, as Lance Storm emerges from hiding! He levels D-Von with a vicious fire extinguisher shot and Bubba runs over to help, but Morley low blows him. Storm brings two chairs into the ring and the two men wear Bubba out, then as the groggy D-Von hauls himself into the ring the heels strike, hitting his own move-3D-and stacking him on his half-brother. Morley grabs the mic and gloats over the fallen Dudleyz; they may have their jobs, but for as long as their careers last Morley’s going to make sure that they don’t have their health....

-In the cool-off match before the main event, the Theodore Long-managed team of Jazz and Rodney Mack get a decisive victory over the makeshift pairing of Trish and The Hurricane in around four minutes. The post-match shenanigans are far more interesting, however; a Rodney mack tiger driver on Trish leaves the former Women’s Chmpion seemingly severely injured, and Hurricane carries her anxiously to the back...

-And in the main event, the second of the night’s qualifying matches, Chris Jericho advances to the Elimination Chamber with a pinfall victory over Kevin Nash-but not without controversy. The match goes smoothly up until the seven-minute mark, with Nash in conrtol after a string of hard-hitting power moves. Jericho breaks free from a tilt-o-whirl and bails, going for a chair-but that plan hits the skids when Goldberg’s music fires up! Jericho quails in fear as “Da Man” makes his way to ringside and stalks him round the ring. “The Highlight Of The Night” quickly gets back in the ring-and walks straight into a Kevin Nash boot. The big man sets up the Jacknife, but Jericho shoves him into the corner-crushing the referee in the process. Jericho kicks him low and Nash sinks to his knees in the corner-and Goldberg climbs into the ring, readying himself for a spear. Jericho gloats at Nash and turns around-but showing lightning reflexes, Jericho dodges, sending Goldberg smashing into Nash! Nash crumples in the centre of the ring as Goldberg roars with anger, and Jericho sneaks up behind him and bundles him through the ropes. One LionSault later and Jericho has his position at Judgement Day secure-but with Goldberg lurking outside he opts to exit through the crowd. Goldberg stands fuming in the aisle as a very angry-looking Nash begins to stir, and the Raw credits roll....

It actually had a realistic feel, until the point where Nash jobbed to Jericho. Better chance of a time machine being placed in the middle of the ring and Ric Flair and Rick Steamboat of 1989 coming out for a 60 minute classic than Nash jobbing back-to-back nights, especially to Jericho.
And, I initially had my hopes raised upon reading this that Nowinski would be one of the competitors in the Elimination Chamber. That would have provided a fresh face to the proceedings.
Other than that, better than 90% of the crap produced by the current RAW booking staff.

Right on. I too used to be a big Jeff Hardy fan. I popped in Wrestlemania 2000 for the TLC Beta version, and the comparison between him then and him now is nothing short of sad.
