Big Dave~! Big Dave~! bah gawd, Batista is going to Wrestlemania! (sorry, I had to do that =) )
Big Dave is the man. His power movel last night were awesome, his crowd heat was awesome, and his skit with HHH was awesome (Flair was also awwesome in that backstage skit).
Jericho v Edge was OK. Typical Raw fare.
Orton vs HHH...I think this match proves Batista is main eventing at Wrestlemania. No way WWE blows their planned WM ME on a Raw, two months beforehand. Match was good.
Hassan has potential, at least on the mic. Does anyone who knows anything about OVW know if he was any good and whether he is really highly regarded?
Please, please, don't let HHH get the belt at NYR. That would just deflate my enthusiasm for Raw. Though I guess if they want HHH dopping the title to Batista at Mania, then it wouldn't be SO bad.
I don't think they've mentioned the flaw in the USA chants because they want them to chant USA (or something, and it's somewhat less offensive than other things they can think of.)

Wrestlemania 21 is an anniversary show , so it should be built up as big as it possibly can be, but like you A Fan i am dreading the card. I feel the writers need to do some overtime in the next few months.
I think if not HHH-Batista then Batista-Benoit would work and be a great match. But I think WM 21 will have a triple threat with HHH-Batista-Orton
The first Raw of 2005 could have been better.Like HHH and Batista vs. Randy Orton and Chris Benoit. Then Lita and Trish (non-title match). Someone should of come in and help J.R. and the king.
Originally posted by King Of CrapSo...EVERY American is a racist bastard who wants Arabs dead? THAT's why Hassan and Daivari are heels, because they are racists, who use their position as part of a minority as a crutch to justify their behaviour.
And that'd be a great if the faces (JR, Lawler, Foley, et al.) would criticize them for using their race as a crutch. But so far all the faces do is take issue with Hassan's opinion that America sucks. By not refuting Hassan's exaggerations, the faces are essentially saying "OK, we concede that every American is a racist bastard who wants Arabs dead, but it doesn't matter because America is the greatest nation in the world and if you don't like it you can get out." And it makes them look like jingoistic idiots, even though it should be easy to rhetorically dismantle Hassan because he's basically wrong.
People are going to continue to see that Hassan at least has the kernel of a good point as long as Raw fails to present a counterargument that goes beyond "U-S-A! U-S-A!" It's not hard to do--you've done it very well--but somebody on TV needs to do it.
Did you miss the part where Lawler said that there are racists in the US, but that there are racists everywhere else?
King didn't try to pretend that America is perfect, nor did he agree that all Americans are racist. Just because the crowd didn't pay attention doesn't mean that the segment was blindly jingoistic.
I could've lived without JR's closing line though.
I agree with you 100%. JR's idiotic America Love it or Leave it just made him look like a dumbass.
Marge I am just trying to get into heaven not run for Jesus.
Raw has been great, but since leaking Orton's title win before SummerSlam and their plans to make HHH/Orton their marquee match-up, the closer we get the more I scratch my head. Now, the locker vs. Evolution angle that got us to Chamber has been great. However, unless they do a total shock move by putting the belt on somoeone other than HHH, its going to be HHH/Orton. I just don't know if we should read anything to HHH jobbing to Orton on Monday or not. If they popped the ratings like a match that is going to be the Wrestlemania main event should then its probably still going to happen.
I just think the fans love for Batista has totally got the writers puzzled on what they want to do. On the one hand, they would look like idiots for having this huge storyline only to be sidetracked by a hoss getting completely over with the fans. On the other hand, they could theoritically do better business with a Batista in the main event picture than Orton or HHH. So, it will be interesting to see what happens. I just think the midcard is going to have to carry this event on its back. Bradshaw/Cena is probably to early for John and way too late to take the belt off of Bradshaw. HBK/Kurt is something that I would pay to see, as would a Rock match or Foley match, but I would rather not see them job to Iron Sheik 2005.
It just comes down to how well they build this thing between now and Mania. Last year, people thought HHH was going to walk out with the title killing WM 20, but he didn't. Minus Rock N Sock jobbing to Evolution and some of the pointless tag matches, it was probably the most solid card since WM 17. I guess we wait and see, but I just don't see it being as good or even as close to Wrestlemania XX.
"All faith reguires is giving into the possibility of hope."
I think Batista is going to turn on HHH at new years revolution elimination chamber match. I don't like evolution but I would want Batista to win the world heavyweight championship. I mean the only superstars that are in the elimination chamber that haven't been the world heavyweight champion are Batista and Edge. But seriously I don't think Edge is cut out to be the world heavyweight champion. He would probably not put the title on the line for anything. And if he does he will lose. I think Batista would be a great champ. And he would finely be out of evolution. And he could probably team up with Randy Orton.

Considering that this was just his attitude towards the UnAmericans a few years ago (granted, they were Canadians) I can't say I was too surprised to hear the same comments coming off of JR's lips.
I definately agree that the best argument I could say for the 'face' side was Jerry saying he didn't mind about Hassan's opinions (save for the one about the troops being 'gutless cowards') but thought the duo were just being jackasses about it. Of course, having JR come up with the 'love it or leave it' comment didn't really help matters.
I don't think it'll matter what gets argued during the promos now, whether Hassan hails from Michigan and has opinions that may or may not be right. The fact is the audience just see it as another anti-US group with the simple message of 'boo us because we say mean things about the country' and so we're treated to "USA!" chants and the like. So we're stuck with it. Whether this goes the way of La Resistance is another matter.
And surprise surprise, no face comes out to help the commentary. Heck, this would've been a great time to get someone from the lower card in to save the day and at least get a spot on the card, even if they'll get squished. Hell, if you're using Rhyno as a face jobber now, why not have him run in and try doing the Gore on Davari? There ARE babyfaces that need to be developed!
On another note to RAW, anyone surprised that of the six contestants, Jericho hasn't said a single word on the mic in the last three weeks?
Originally posted by CRZPoor Daivari...already losing his first name, that's gotta hurt.
Yeah, what was up with that? They might as well introduce him as "meh.. you know, the other A-rab". The whole angle has been mishandled, it could have been profound- but it has become just another cheap cue for USA chants.
Jericho hasnt had a word on the mic cause he's not gonna win, AMG2K2 he's just filler for the Elimination chamber.
Victoria, Molly- jobbers to a division that as much as it didnt matter before is becoming exponentially less significant every week.
Batista IS THE MAN! ahem... sorry, it just bears repeating. Batista and Shelton Benjamin are the main reason to watch RAW right now(in my opinion, anyway). Batista! Big Dave! The Big Man! The Monster of Evolution! aah... he rules.
As for Orton, if the people like him as a face but he's better as a heel he should be made to a Rock kind of persona as in a good guy that acts a little like an arrogant asshole (Im not ragging on The Rock, just the best way I can think of explaining his persona). I see two problems with this though:
1. I dont think Randy has the skill to pull off anything the Rock can do on the mic. Heck, I know he doesnt.
2. I already think that Randy is the poor man's Rock, (or was that Cena?) and has probably taken enough cues from him... maybe there's some other way they can take this? They wanted to make him The Star of RAW, but clearly that spot belongs to Batista.

I'm not denying that, but you would've at least expected one of RAW's charismatic speakers try a go in an attempt to hype the match, or least be part of Edge's little skirmish with Shawn Michaels as part of a Highlight Reel segment or some backstage confrontation. They sure allowed Orton plenty of time to yammer at his teleprompter, at the least have some more dynamic involved than merely Evolution's soap opera story.
You got a six-man main event, you might as well create the illusion that all six have SOMETHING on the line.
Anyways, on the note of Batista... if/when he does make the turn against Triple H, is there a possibility of him being able to keep that popularity going? I'm worried that it might be a case of people getting behind Batista solely because they're sick of HHH.
Originally posted by Spaceman SpiffActually, I think "different" would be correct word to use, since it would be describing how Hassan looks, and thus requiring an adjective. "Differently" would be used if Hassan looks (as in, "with his eyes to see things") using a different manner than JR.
I guess I need to work on my sarcasm.

Also, no one seem to be addressing the fact that Arab-Americans are actually the target of increased discrimination in the past 3 or 4 years. When Hassan mentions this fact, it’s dismissed out of hand because he doesn’t speak in a civil tone. Then King says, “Yes, there are racists and idiots in every country…”, but he forgot to add, “But I don’t really have to worry about it all that much cuz I’m white.”
Also, even though they announce him as being from Michigan, they’re doing everything they can to make him look “UnAmerican”. They give him the Arabic music. They have him walk around wearing a Kaffiyeh. Honestly, how many Arab Americans do you know who wear a Kaffiyeh, even if they are proud of their heritage? And isn’t Hassan’s Kaffiyeh the same pattern as Arrafat’s? Picture here: http://edition.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2004/arafat/stories/bio/
This is so close to the Darth Maul method of villain creation, it’s not funny. See the guy in the long black cloak with the red and black face with horns and pointy teeth? See him? Oh yeah, he’s EVIL!
Okay now, see the guy with the foreign music and the Arafat rag on his head? See how angry he is? Did I mention the hat? See, he’s not really one of US!
Same deal.

I think the reason we are liking Batista is because he is doing the slow burn that should have been Ortons. IMO Orton has been killed for a few more years by VKMs desire to wipe out Brock Lesnars 'worlds youngest champion'' title If Orton was doing this slow burn of Batistas I will assure you the WM21 would be a ballbuster and the buyrates would be going through the roof.

I don't know if Orton can even play a face though. I mean, everything the guy does is TOTAL HEEL. From his pose, to his moveset, everything about him. If you want to talk about guys like The Rock and Michaels and how they were able to play the dickish heel as a face, remember that they changed their personas enough to allow themselves to be considered on the face side.
I think the biggest problem Orton has with getting over as the biggest face in the company is that himself and his own current limitations. Batista may not be a better technical wrestler than Orton (I honestly think that could be debatable) but he is a better all-around wrestler because he has some diversity to him. He comes out and with one look to the crowd now they're cheering him. Orton stands opposite Triple H and expects people to cheer him just because he's facing the top bad guy and that's the way it should be, but doesn't really do anything to get the crowd on his side other than work off Triple H's heel heat.

Tribal Prophet
I totally agree with this. Batista has that thing that Orton lacks, which is "it", that intangible that makes you want to tune in to see what happens and/or what he does next. However, I think they are giving Batista the opportunity to do something that they aren't letting Orton do, which is be himself.
I think lately they have kinda given Batista a chance to show some of his personality, which has helped him greatly. He has shown that he is more than a run-of-the-mill buh gawd hoss. He has great timing and has a special presence about him.
I think Orton's natural personality is to be a jackass who thinks he is all that and a bag of chips. He is the dickwad at the bar/club who thinks every chick wants to fuck him and thinks he can kick the shit out of every guy there. He hits on your g/f and then tells you to "fuck off, she is talking to a real man now" when you come back to her while he is there. He is a Billy Zabka-type guy if you ask me. He seemed more comfortable about 6 months ago when he was playing that role. I died laughing when he came out with the belt and had all the 24 year old guys stand up and take their shirts off and talked about how they were all disgusting losers. That promo flowed so well for him in my opinion.
My feeling is let him embrace that and see where it takes him.

Well, yeah- that is true. Maybe its just me though, but I've always liked Batista more than Orton- he just seems cooler to me. I have to admit, even I have contributted to one of the pops for Orton at one time or another- but there's something about him that just doesnt sell well to me (heck, we can all list what the something(s) is, but this is quite enough for now).
And AMG2K2, you're also right- Chris Jericho is talented and could be well-used to give dimensions to that Chamber match, when I called him "filler" I dont mean that he's bad himself- but that he's not really as involved as the other guys and it seems that he's just there to be the sixth man in the Chamber.
