I was too busy being distracted by his slow devolution into Michael Hayes.

My wife pointed out last week that he's starting to look like the bastard child of Michael Hayes and Mickey Rourke. She was especially taken by his mustache that appears to slipping down his face.

I really enjoyed this episode.

As It's False pointed out, the commentary was much better with Ross getting more time to call it. I wish they'd put JR on the PPVs.

Bourne & Kofi make a good team and it was great to see them win the belts. Can Otunga go now? I also liked how the commentary alluded to perhaps tag team wrestling becoming a little more prominent. We shall see.

Miz & Truth took a long time in their segment to get to where they wanted but they'll be a decent tandem.

I'm not as down on where the Punk angle is going as some people. The HHH/Nash dialogue didn't make much sense but Punk held it together. I know we're getting a Punk/Nash match which won't set the world on fire but I'm liking the INTRIGUE of it all. Maybe my standards for good wrestling programming have dropped, but at least now I have an urge to make an effort to watch each week to see where it goes, and I've not done that since the start of Nexus.

However, the ending to the Punk/Cena match was really weak. What a crap distraction. I was expecting Laurinitis to cause the interference and cost Punk the match and revealing himself as the One Who Sent The Text.

The new WWE champ has fought Rey, Bryan, and Morrison within a week. Hot damn.

If Punk was being written the way he used to be, we'd discover he sent Nash the text (mayhem! chaos! FU, Hunter!). I'm not advocating this, by the way.

I just hope they have a game plan that doesn't involve Punk feuding with HHH's old friends who are not HBK. Even if Shawn did come back, I don't think I would be that impressed by it unless he was crackhead 90s Shawn. That man could get heat. To me, it seems like they are taking the safe route with Cena/ADR for the fall instead of letting Punk be the star of the show. They have no real faces past Cena to face Alberto if Punk is going to be dragged down by the Cliq. The best thing they could have done is push Cena/ADR without the belt while Punk faced Miz, R-Truth, Swagger and Dolph for the fall as HHH's proxies for the belt. Hell, send Cena and ADR to Smackdown if Mark Henry is the best you can do for Orton.

Raw was very good tonight expect for the once again John Cena gets a title shot and Kevin Nash looking like an confused old man. I actually expect Night of Champions to have a terrible buyrate as it stands and I am sure the blame will be on Punk and not the McMahon families' stupidity that Kevin Nash was a draw.

Quite frankly, the DOD has been one big DUD thus far. Except for one tag win over AJ and Kaitlyn, the Divas of Doom have accomplished nothing. Their promo was embarrassing nonsense. They no longer even strike fear into the babyfaces: Kelly Kelly and Eve have been booked so strongly, they don't even sweat when the DOD come out in their evening gowns (another weird choice for how to present these two.) The Bellas don't sweat the DOD either.

The outcome of Eve vs. Nikki Bella was elementary when analyzed via the results of NXT3. Kelly Kelly was in Eve's corner; not only is she the Divas Champion but she was the second most successful Pro after Vickie Guerrero. Meanwhile, the Bellas' Rookie was the first eliminated from NXT3. Thus, when you have a world class Pro on the outside like Eve did Kelly, victory was all but assured in this case.

I am not ready to say they are killing Punk with this, but if he ends up in a match with Nash, it definitely hurts his momentum. But there are only title matches at NoC, so it won't be there. So either Punk is added to the title match as an apology from HHH, or he is not even on the card. I think I know which one i would go with.

Even though he was treated as a bit of an afterthought in that opening promo, they are doing every thing else right with Del Rio. He has racked up some good wins in the last few weeks, and more importantly, not taken a loss. I am so sick of Even Steven booking. If you want a guy to get over as a true star, he needs to win most of the time. He needs to seem better than everyone else. They have done the same thing with Punk, until last night. But at least he had beaten Cena in their 2 previous matches, on PPV no less.

The only logical payoff to that inset interview is that Beth and Natalya have taken over responsibility for the mysterious, long-reaching goals that once drove Wade Barrett and The Nexus.

This has been amazing. He was visibly and audibly flabbergasted (flabbergasted!) and stumbled over his next sentence once it was clear they were going to do it to him again. I think it's crushing him emotionally and we are seeing a new, vulnerable Kevin Nash. What if he just breaks down and cries on one of these Raws because this wasn't how it was supposed to be? There's at least a 10% chance of this happening on live TV now.

I got a kick out of how cheesy that was, how nobody in the crowd went for it but that one guy. Punk's reaction was all "Yeah, this guy knows what I'm talkin' about!" I like to think if I'd been there, I would have yelled out "TOO SOON!" and Punk would have cracked up, stopped the show to come do a fist bump with me and then we'd be best friends forever and sit around readin' comics in airports and telling people not to talk to us and then saying "Remember The Shadows? Everybody remembers the Conquistadors, but what about The Shadows, man?" Ah, what good times we'd have.

Del Rio/Morrison and Punk/Cena were excellent TV matches. Cena and Punk obviously work great together, and Cena is giving Punk plenty during matches. I appreciate the fact that they've given Del Rio three high quality wins, and he's delivering in all of them. He's an interesting case in that he's good but not great on the mic, and it's all the other things - his gear, the way he looks like a bad guy in an old silent movie, the atmosphere that Ricardo creates - that make the character work. But he's absolutely delivered in the ring so far, and I think it's enough to make him a legitimate threat for most of the roster. The problem is, he's just not a legit threat for Cena.

And it didn't help that Cena punctured the atmosphere a little bit by doing the "Those cars are rentals/you're not even rich" thing. I don't see how that helps anybody. Cena's (perhaps accidental) slow slide into being a creep was there again today, burying Alberto's gimmick and trying to cash in a rematch clause against a guy he didn't even lose a title to. Great work by him, Del Rio and Punk on the t-shirt rejection, though. All three of them kind of cracked up at it, and Cena smartly threw it back towards those guys for the second rejection, giving Punk the chance to get his shirt and throw it there.

The thing I was taken by in the HHH/Punk/Nash parts of the evening - except for the reminder that HHH always was and always will be more Poochie than Nash - was that Punk looked bigger than HHH when they went nose to Nose. I wouldn't have guessed that and certainly never noticed it before. And they both looked a lot smaller than Nash. Is HHH shrinking, or just slouching a bit to look smaller while doing the COO thing?

Also, while I worry what a Punk/Nash match might actually look like, what it will actually do for Punk and the alarming way HHH/Stephanie/Nash have eagerly hooked themselves to Punk, I don't feel bad for the guy, because Punk's gotta be living the life right now, getting to make Nash look like a stooge on TV so far. If nothing else, he's definitely having fun, and that sense coming from him makes it fun to watch these weird segments, at least for me.

If their reticence in turning Cena full-on heel is largely due to the merchandise he sells, could the WWE be trying to create some kind of nWo v2.0? At the beginning of the Outsiders angle Hall and Nash just showed up in WCW, didn't wrestle, beat some people up, and had people wondering what they were up to. Isn't that the role Nash is playing again? And Nash "helping" Cena win last night could be part of the WWE's build-up to a "Hogan is the third man"-moment with Cena?

(Yes, it's not happening, but stop asking me to rationalize why Kevin Nash is on my TV. At least we know for sure (1) Punk is going over Nash and he will do it with such style that everyone will love it, and (2) if they are going to keep following Nash segments with "tonight's WWE RAW is brought to you by Just for Men" I will continue to laugh heartily every time.)

I'm fine with the 'slow burn' approach with the Punk storyline, I'm not sure the crowd was much of an asset last night - "Let's Go Oilers" during Punk/Cena? Really? Really?? - but the way I see it, you just have to accept that Cena is going to remain a main focus on Raw, all the way through WM and his match with Rock. Keeping the Punk story as a co-main focus is about as good as can be expected here.

I wasn't such a fan of the match, it seemed certain from the start we were getting a sports entertainment finish here, so I'm not sure I would have gone as far as the 'kicking out of finishers' stage. Between that and with the mirror image MitB finish, they may have taken more away from a future big money PPV match than necessary.

But I don't see Punk/Cena III coming for another year or so, people may want to get comfortable with that - Cena is going to be fighting for the championship, Punk is going to fight for the company. And when Punk completes that quest, he'll have some great motivation to go back to breaking up the "same old John Cena show". (It was a year and 9 months between "Austin 3:16" and Stone Cold winning the title.) I could feel the crowd getting stronger behind Punk during that promo with Nash and H. But Cena won't turn until the match at WM, at the earliest.

Given that there's two top Raw programs covered there, I like the idea of bringing back the tag division to give more slots for guys like Miz, Truth and Kofi to stay on TV. They're also doing a good job of building up Del Rio in advance of the Night of Champions match - though it remains to be seen how they are going to deal with Super PPV Cena, I'm assuming they want Cena to chase for awhile to establish ADR.

And an observation: ever since they've started calling it the "Undisputed WWE Championship", it's been anything but, hasn't it? Even going back to when Punk left MitB through the crowd, with the alternate title tournament, Cena bigfooting Rey's win, then suddenly the twin titles, a foot on the rope, a briefcase cash-in... I think the chaos works with the overall storyline.

(Speaking of Johnny Ace, back in the day I remember the Stone Cold Stunner described as Austin using the Ace Crusher - looking at some YouTubes, isn't the Ace Crusher actually more like the Diamond Cutter/RKO?)

I think when Cena gets his shirt thrown back not once, but twice, they should at least consider a heel turn.

As bored as people were with Hogan, you never saw that happen. The crowds seem no longer 50/50 but 70/30 anti-Cena. I thought their match was great, but will be forgotten due to the screwy ending.

Glad to hear Michael Cole no longer playing a cartoon and glad they backed off the Vickie fat jokes.

This isn't even CLOSE to the number of times the ECW faithful threw back Cena's shirt at One Night Stand 2006.

Too bad they spent practically the entire match taking Vickie from the fattest camera angle last night. (Of course, partial blame lies with Vickie for insisting on a backless ...what do you call it? Blouse? Top?)

Austin's original Stunner style was an Ace Crusher. He would stand stiffly in front of the opponent and drop straight down. No kick. No middle finger. He would even walk his opponents forward a bit. It had none of the pizzazz of the classic Stunner we now know.

And Truth still needs to turn his suplex stunner into a finisher. It's quite nasty.

Helmsley has not had a very good start to his COO gig. He's been outsmarted at every turn, he's got a guy that doesn't work for the company jumping guys that do, he left the arena during an important number one contenders match for his top title to check on his buddy (who doesn't work for the company), he lost his phone, he can't referee ... he'd better be in on the scam job or he's going to look like the village idiot here.

I disagree. I love the fact we have a guy whose trying to be reasonable, but in over his head.

And think about it; yes Triple H used to be a master manipulator, but if worse comes to worse Triple H always grabbed the sledge and went to town. But he's the COO now, he can ONLY use his mind, no brute force.

I think it's solid.

With how hot Punk is and with Cena being the top guy, they almost needed to set up the tag team division just to keep some people's momentum going.

Wow, RAW did a 3.0 this week. Not pretty. Triple H and Nash start appearing regularly, and the ratings nosedive. I wonder if they'll get the blame?
