I'm only one man, but John Cena turning heel and reeeeeally putting everything he's got into being a despicable bastard would make me watch WWE again.

The Cena heel turn is a bomb they need to detonate when they REALLY need a good storyline. Right now, they have the Rock and Punks stuff to get through the year. Cena has been Hulk Hogan so long now, that every month he stays face, the more powerful the heel turn will be. | BigDaddyLoco

I really dug R-Truth and The Miz last night. Heel Truth not acting a fool is a really solid character.
I'm not sure what to make of Alberto Del Rio right now, the man needs another layer added to his character, mabye even a different entrance.

I took it as him referring to Conan (Barbarian/Destroyer) and not Conan (O'Brien) and that ridiculous pre-entrance entrance costume he wore at WrestleMania. What was that anyway? I know they might start (or have already started) a comic based on that "character" (In the distance... the opening bars of "For Whom The Bell Tolls" can be heard... on the battlefield... a warrior suddenly appears, surrounded by lesser-warriors with shields and spears...) but was that really the most opportune time to introduce something like that? Is there an opportune time to introduce something like that?

For the purposes of creating interesting stories, I completely disagree. Holding onto the Cena heel turn until there's nothing better to do is a waste of potential. Something like that has got to explode in a big way. That's what gets people paying attention. Doling out interesting bits here and there gets people mildly invested, but doing the Cena heel turn amid the already popular CM Punk story and the looming presence of The Rock (who everybody wants to cheer and rightly so) fits in perfectly.
Cena being a babyface though all this gets in the way and muddies up the waters. But Cena being a heel through all this strengthens the storylines. As fun as Cena's patented 'mixed reactions' are sometimes, truly successful pro wrestling stories need to involve clearer lines between good and evil. CM Punk and Rock being on the evil side is boring. Now's the time for John Cena to be an asshole to all fans, not just 20-80% of them depending on the city.

And the Punk/Cena dichotomy works with Cena staying face, as does the Cena/Rock dichotomy. Turning him at this juncture would a)reduce the Punk character, as he would be playing babyface against a standard wrestling heel and thus be less edgy, and b)would once again leave Raw as a brand with one main event face and too many heels to count. I don't think it enriches the story - it reduces Cena from "conflicted hero" to "slimy heel" - and it doesn't do anything business-wise at this point. | JimBob Skeeter

After a Cena heel turn, I can see a midcarder (Evan, mayhap) start a "Cena, Come Back" campaign and wear Cena merchandise to prove how much the fans love him. This would get the hopefuls to also bedeck themselves in Cena gear to persuade him to renounce his evil ways.

Unless you're a gay. Or an overweight woman who dares to leave the house. Or Michael Tarver.
Anyway, I have to agree with the "can't turn Cena now" camp. For every successful heel turn of the last thrity-odd years, you always, always had factors that aren't in place for Cena in 2011. The most important of these would be a nearly-as-or-more-popular babyface to take that spot. Andre had already been long supplanted by Hogan before his 1987 turn, as were Bret and later Shawn by Steve Austin for their '97 turns. Hogan was never as popular in most WCW tour stops as Sting was, and in fact those markets had been conditioned by the NWA for years to hate Hogan, so that one was a 1996 no-brainer. Less successful turns (Austin's, Undertaker's, and Sting's) lacked this key factor. Who replaces Cena? I think Punk's doing great but it's really ambitious at this juncture to suggest he'd be a lock to draw the same amount of money Cena does for them now.

Especially if Rock keeps acting like a dick and isn't on TV. Cena can come out and say, "He doesn't give a shit about the WWE Universe and you love him. I've done everything you ever wanted and still get Cena Sucks chants in every town."
But while he is a face they can still make him more tolerable. Less kissing up to the fans, more trash talk. And get the guy some decent merchandise! The Red shirt is a VAST improvement over the orange and purple, but what about that SWEET shirt he had that had the 8-Bit NES Pro Wrestling theme?
