I'm loving the possible directions they could go with this ... they really sucked me back to the point that I couldn't wait to get home & settled to start watching RAW ... they set up a really slow burn for what could be great WM28 match-ups.

The aforementioned idea of 'Taker returning and calling out a "soft" Triple H ... But to go back to the cerebral assassin Triple H, he relinquishes his chairman title back to Vince, etc.

Also, Miz vs. CM Punk in a WWE title unification match ... this could be a real money feud if done correctly over the next few months ...

I read often that the WWE is so protective of the belts that they wrestlers aren't allowed to travel with them anymore. Allegedly, they are handed the belts at events and hand them back for officials to keep an eye on. But Punk is all over Chicago with the title.

I actually ran into Wade Barrett at an airport back in April, when he was still the IC champ, and asked him about this. He told me that the IC title was in his carry-on bag.

Then (or as you would say, than) Vince attempted to redeem the situation by trying to screw Punk out of the title on PPV. None of these are evidence of good man management.

Asinine terrorist comments aside, all Cena did was come down during the contract signing and say "hey, CM Punk's using his #1 contendership to hold the company to ransom!" which, in fairness, he totally was.

To recap, Vince was about to agree to:

a. Bring back a range of frozen confectionery.
b. Give CM Punk his own jet.
c. Plaster CM Punk's mug all over the ring.
d. Invest money in CM Punk cutlery and crockery.
e. Invest more money in Chaperone 2, starring CM Punk.
f. Change the main event of Wrestlemania, and
g. Let CM Punk kick him in the happy sack.

You may view this as him having the situation under control, but the Board of Directors apparently decided the old fella had gone soft (or possibly lost it altogether).

Asides from that I ::gasp:: largely agree with you. It was a solid if unspectacular show. In hindsight I guess that was all it was likely to be given that the focal point of their hot angle couldn't be there, but it still felt like a bit of an anticlimax.

I could totally get behind a CM Punk/HHH program though if that's where they're headed.

Yes. I always read or hear that the wrestlers are responsible for bringing the title belts with them. Miz for one has Tweeted a few times about TSA people always wanting to pose with the spinner belt.

Be fair to Flair Vince. He did have the situation under control. He suspended Punk, and Punk would've gone away quietly. Cena was the one holding the company hostage by going on a self-righteous rant about free speech and threatening to take his ball and go home. After that, Vince was in a no-win situation.

But he was fickle. Cena threatened to walk a few weeks back, and Vince flinched. This week, Vince was about to fire him. Circumstances are different, sure, and Vince needed someone besides himself to blame for losing the championship. But the WWE board had to react to the potential loss of their top star twice within a month, all because of his interactions with Vince.

Vince allowed the title to leave the company. Vince allowed a popular and lucrative performer to leave the company. And Vince failed (twice! within five minutes!) to prevent that Sunday night; he failed to rig another match ending, and he failed to get the belt back via ADR. Now he's chaotic and ineffectual, and he was gonna cut Cena instead of taking responsibility for the situation. Now pride was taking precedence over money.

The board had to act.

I hope this leads to a group of superstars taking up Punk's "voice of the voiceless" mantle. They could question how Triple H being in charge is supposed to be any kind of improvement over Vince. Not a full-blown faction, just some dissent in the ranks.

Something like this is what I was hoping for last night. That Punk "inspired" unrest or some chaos. But alas. We'll see what next week brings. It would help Hunter's current status if he appears on Smackdown this week.

If Hunter makes alterations to the title tourney finals (already delayed a week), we could still see it.

I find Michael Cole's constant talk of Twitter and trending topics annoying-- but maybe that's because I'm not on Twitter. All of his talk about checking out the current website and Facebook page is going to be pretty pointless on future DVDs and replays.

When I go to house shows, I see a lot of blue-collar, working class fans who I don't envision sitting at their computer all day or having the latest smartphone. Maybe I'm wrong.

I want commentary about what is happening right now on the show that I'm watching. This seems to be a problem with radio, as I am constantly being told by the deejay to check out their website or Facebook page. Yeah, kinda ironic complaint to make on an internet message board, I know.

Didn't see the show, but can't say that I've really missed HHH that much. He and Punk did have a nice little confrontation last year when that volcano went off and all of the Raw roster was stuck in Europe.

Absolutely agreed. Vince did expose himself as chaotic and ineffectual. But it's because of Cena. Suspending Punk was the right thing to do, business-wise. Punk explicitly said he was walking before Vince got involved. Vince could not have done anything to keep Punk from leaving. If Cena had minded his own business, none of this would've happened and the board would not have needed to act.

But maybe Vince needed to get involved before he did. Vince allowed the GM to give Punk the opportunity to become #1 contender in the first place (even though the GM tried to stack the odds against Punk). It happened on Vince's watch.

But then again, Cena got beat by Punk the week before, which opened the door for Punk to lay claim to the #1 contender's spot. Yeah, I'm blaming Cena.

(Maybe Cena, Punk, HHH & the GM all conspired to oust Vince.)

Lost amidst all this are two things not mentioned yet.

1: K8lyn is on my tv!

2: The dude yelling to HHH after he laid the "no longer needed....." thing: "He needs a hug~!"

Fuck yeah.

But, BUT in back-to-back week's the #1 contender and then the current champion felt sufficiently pissed off and/or sufficiently powerful to go out there on live TV and either threaten to leave or flat out say they were leaving.

If nothing else, maybe the board feel such shameful dissent will not happen now under HHH's stewardship. Hunter shall sort out these self important cry babies quick smart

Cena deserves some share of the blame, but ultimately Vinnie's watch, Vinnie's fault.

Unless your Cena/Punk/GM/HHH conspiracy comes true in which case poor Vince :(

Well, the fallout of the CM Punk situation was that Vince McMahon got fired directly because of it. And I think making it overtly forbidden to say Punk's name on TV will to get people to chant it more is more effective than saying "did you see Punk was at a baseball game? what temerity, King."

But Vince also cost Cena and WWE the title by getting involved in the match, and was then going to fire the company's biggest star on top of that out of spite. No confidence!

They did not show an actual live belt during the show, but the graphics for the tournament all used the spinner belt.

They have like a dozen leftover spinners left over from Tough Enough, right? Just take the Skidmarks nameplate off and use one of them.

For some reason I keep remembering Jericho saying that it could be a pain to have a title belt because the TSA guys want to pose with it, mock it, or generally just waste your time by calling the attention of the airport to this big shiny belt you're carrying around in your luggage like a 10 year old.

Might have been someone else saying that (possible the Miz, but I doubt it), but much like Ryder and his Internet Championship Belt, the other wrestlers are responsible for their belts.

Just a thought. Instead of going through with the tourney final, have HHH say that he wants to do the right thing, and Punk won the belt fair and square...but the rules say that if you're the champ, you have to defend the belt. So Punk needs to defend in a 3-way against Rey and Miz at the next PPV. If he doesn't show up, he's stripped of the title, and Rey and Miz fight to be the new champ. Put a little intrigue back into things, and at the same time make everything "right" by the old-school rules of wrestling.

There are enough to break the "Power to the People" voting mechanism, at least.

I think WWE would love to tell advertisers that their demographic is young, hip and can afford mobile service, and see this as another avenue towards attempting to get their ad rates out of the basement.

On the other hand, it's funny that judging by last night's broadcast, someone recently made the executive decision to actually spell out "facebook.com" when presenting the WWE Facebook page URL via on-screen graphic. I have to wonder how many Members Of The WWE Universe were getting confused when typing in "f/WWE" and "f.com/WWE" which wasn't taking them anywhere. It....doesn't bode well for the bell curve that makes up the collective intelligence watching the show and/or representing on the Internets.

EDIT!

Championships have been stripped before. Sometimes they don't even wait 30 days! (Batista, Cena, Edge)

Or is it because the champ doesn't walk out and physically turn over the belt that this time it'd be different?

Punk got another pic of him last night at the game:

I love it. I hope he goes into a Chicago-are VFW and gets all the old timers to take a pic with the belt, but only if they are cheering with a glass of milk. Straight edge!
