And that also means we won't get Cena trying to break Undertaker's streak, unless 'Taker wins at WM28 and then they have that contest at WM29! But somehow I don't think 'Taker will last until the spring of 2013.
I assume the reason why they are booking the match a year in advance is because next year's WM is in Miami, which Rock will receive a bigger pop than normal. On the other hand, Vince changes his mind about matches and stipulations on a weekly basis so I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he decided to pull the trigger before WM 28.
I was thinking the same thing on Cena/Taker at next year's WM; if not Cena, who else could face Taker next year? Miz, or maybe the original story of Barrett facing Undertaker. Either way, I see Taker making it a year from now going 20-0 but I have my doubts Taker will have another year left to go 21-0.
I don't think this is a question of Vince changing his mind and putting the match on before then. Vince supposedly wants to make Rock's in-ring return as huge as possible, and this is the way to do it. Besides, even if he DID get the itch to bump the match forward, Rock's a busy guy who's not going to just drop everything to please him. I'd say Rock's movie schedule is a big factor in the match being put off til next year.
Genuine question: When was the last post-Wrestlemania Raw that felt less like a post-Wrestlemania Raw than this? Virtually all the stories seem to be in pretty much the same spots they were in during the build up to the show, and for a WM that most seem to be describing as setting up Raw, that doesn't appear to have been the case, either. If anything, they all but established that arguably the two biggest Raw stories going into WMXXVII - HHH/UT and the intentional or unintentional build to Rock/Cena - are now the top two stories building into WMXXVIII for an entire year. And Heel Cole continues without even putting in a new finish line for us to be looking towards, unless they specifically want to finish it with Lawler's piledriver at Backlash where it won't have to compete with the Tombstone.
Take out Sin Cara's debut and it felt more like the show you'd get two weeks prior to Mania than the night after. Strange and disappointing. I know Backlash is historically the WM-rematch show, but it just feels more muted and on autopilot than usual.
Shouldn't Sheamus' new ring gear just be blue, since he's already got the red and white fully covered? I feel like someone missed out on a good visual joke there. I also kind of want to see him in Hogan's Mr. America costume now, too. Sheamus highlight of the whole evening, though, was obviously that cut to him during the Hall of Fame clip reel hour wearing his jaunty newsboy cap.
Aside from the brief moment where it looked like he wasn't going to clear the top rope, which would have been like Ultimo Dragon's slip x10, the Sin Cara debut wasn't bad. It sounded like he won the crowd over from some initial indifference by his last move. I do question putting him into a title fued right off the bat and wonder what this leaves for Bryan now. I'd enjoy a series of matches against Punk, and more matches against Ziggler, but neither seem like a direction for him. I'm guessing he goes to SmackDown early in the next draft and they do Bryan vs. Barrett, which would have been a lot nicer before they completely kicked the support out from under Barrett.
I kind of love everything about Cody Rhodes right now. Most interesting guy in the company at the moment? Especially with the evil version of Smoke & Mirrors and the tragic headlines during his entrance. I do think he needs some pants, or at least knee pads, during his entrance if he's going to keep his awesome leather Dr. Doom cloak, though.
They probably should have done Rock/Cena for this year's Mania. I just can't see a generation of ADD fans getting as hot as they are now for it in a year. Factor in the writer's ADD as well and its a reciept for disaster. Now, that I have seen the trampoline Sinn Cara used, I am less impressed with him. It is weird how Rey and Orton pretty much just exchanged opponetts from WM 26 to do WM 27. The night after Mania should not be a holding pattern, it should get us ready for the summer run and still have us in a stupor of excitiment from Mania. Instead, it feels like we are trapped at a party that became very uninteresting ten minutes into it and our designated driver is nowhere to be found.
The Cody payoff is going to be him getting his mask ripped off and franticly trying to cover a hideous half-inch barely-visible scar, right? It's got to be.
It's been said a hundred times, but if they could have done Rock/Cena at this year's WM they would have. If Rock only decided in the last two weeks that he wanted to wrestle a match it was an impossibility for this year's show.
I noticed the headlines in the background of Rhode's entrance and thought it was a great touch. And it still shows that he's a vain man solely focused on how he looks. But instead of being the goofy Dashing, he's now a tortured soul akin to the Phantom of the Opera.
I don't care what people say, the near botched entrance aside that was a solid debut for Sin Cara. The announcers are doing the hard sell, he debuted in an attack against the US Champ.
Booker T is improving I think. One of the more interesting thing is found was he continually pointed out that Bryan was at a disadvantage against Sheamus. Unlike Cole though, Booker's reasoning (the size difference, Sheamus being on a winning streak) actually made sense. During this Matthews provided some good counter points, detailing Bryan had the submission background and that Sheamus recently was on a losing streak.
Another little note; I think Matthews and Booker are both genre savvy enough to know that when Austin is around you have three things that will happen to you;
1) Stunner. 2) Drink Beer. 3) Drink Beer then Stunner.
Because of this, it makes sense they would begrudge Austin's Stunners.
Cole's going off the rails. Matthews' and Booker's looks of "I can't believe this guy" are hilarious. I can only see this ending in a Pile Driver, anything less I'd probably be disappointed.

I particularly enjoyed Booker's commentary on the Tough Enough Diva hopefuls. Particularly Miss USA. "Mm mm mm. Sop her up with a biscuit!"

Oh dude, come on. That match is sold. People have waited seven years for it and it's guaranteed to happen (er, we hope). What's one more year of waiting? In fact, this is the first time ever we have a dream match promised to us to look forward to for a full year. It's the first dream match we've had since Rock vs. Hogan. It requires no further build up. The match is SOLD. No matter what Cena does or doesn't do this next year, or Rock, we have their collision in Miami to look forward to. No one is going to forget Rock vs. Cena is coming next year.
I also like the symmetry of the timing of Rock vs. Cena. 2012. WrestleMania 28. Ten years after Rock vs. Hogan at WrestleMania X-8. We'll be lucky if another star at the level of those guys rises up in the next ten years to have a dream match with Cena at WrestleMania 38.

So if Cena and Miz go into new stories now, do we say Cena lost their blow-off match? When was the last time that happened?
Michael Cole's full-blown presence is now miserable to listen to for an entire episode. In packets, he's fine. Not for two hours.
Building to Rock/Cena now allows Rock to slip in and out of the WWE throughout the next year to remind us of the match. Also, it allows the WWE to dust off the always-fun angle of enemies protecting each other before their showdown. If Cena gets outnumbered, he can call in Rock for a tag match. That lets the WWE do their no-longer-fun angle of adversarial tag champs.
I FFed through Mania last night to show The Lovely Mrs. Tracker the Muta Snooki spot, and I realized neither Austin nor Hunter were wearing knee braces. That was a shock too.
They sped through the Sheamus/Bryan match to get to Sin Cara, but as Booker commented Sheamus made that look easy. Too easy. Bryan deserved a better showing.

Hey Cena quit smiling you stupid asshole. "LOL Rock cost me the biggest match of the year LOL moving on." Is he going to clown his way through next year's build-up too? Enough already. Legitimately terrible. I just don't understand.
I'm thinking about putting an asterisk next to Evan Bourne's pin on Sheamus because of what Triple H did to him and restarting the EB Raw Losing Streak. Controversial, I know.
Orton pinning Cody. :-/

Buddy. Listen. What's the tag for largest font possible.
Rock didn't want to wrestle again until he came back and had fun.
Originally posted by The Rock in late Februarywill I ever come back to the WWE? of course I will..not a match though, but in a capacity that would allow me to do so much more.

Yeah, I've noticed he's been doing that for quite a while now, it's turned from a interesting quirk in his character (almost Cena's fourth wall 'wink at the camera' way of poking fun at WWE superstars and story lines on the audiences behalf) to basically becoming him no-selling promos and angles.
They either need to grow balls and actually consider turning Cena heel, or at least start the ball rolling on some major tweaks in his character.

I was thinking about this earlier. Is it possible to turn Cena heel and still maintain the level of marketability (which, let's be honest, is probably the only reason he's face right now). I see it as sort of Hogan type of situation back when he turned into Hollywood Hogan; even though he turned heel, he was still selling plenty of New World Order merchandise.
Honestly they need to do something though because, right now, Cena promos just make me roll my eyes - and that entrance at WrestleMania didn't help things (and he usually does some pretty good ones).
He's almost TOO cheery and plucky - it makes me just want to go over to him, smack him silly, and say "quit being so freaking happy all the time".
I also don't know where they're going with that bizarre Corre interruption, either. I realize they were running out of time but another segment like the one that they did with NXT to kick off that angle (minus the tie thing, of course) would have gone a lone way to cementing them as pretty freaking awesome.
Loved the Sin Cara entrance, too - can't wait to see more of him. Even though Sheamus is awesome, it kind of would have loved to see an Evan Bourne vs. Sin Cara match or two, also.
I'd love to see more of Morrison and Ziggler, too. I think that can be really good stuff - especially if given time (plus, I love Morrison and Stratus together!)
Can we NOW get our prolonged Bryan vs. Miz world title feud now?
Oh, and Cole is SUCH a jerk* but he's absolutely perfect at it. I get annoyed at the commentary but if he was a full-time manager or GM figure, it'd be absolutely awesome. Commentating in his ring gear, for the whole show, in that police taped box was perfect.

The fact that he called the action in his ring attire made him so much more tolerable, mainly because he looked silly doing so.

I would swear on a stack of Bibles that Rock's promos last night could have been delivered by heel WWF wrestlers in the mid-'80s. Rock has always been a tweener. He'll punch a crotch. He'll spit water on you. He'll grab a chair.
