You know, WWE did actually attempt to relaunch WCW as its own brand, with a new logo and everything. They gave WCW the main event final segment of RAW in 2001 with their own announce team. RAW was even once considered as becoming a WCW brand. Sure, they made a crucial mistake of putting Buff Bagwell in the main event, but that wasn't even entirely Vince's fault - That one time Vince cut a promo about buying WCW and rattled off names of WCW stars, the crowd popped for Buff Bagwell's name. Vince "always listens to the audience" and thus Buff got the main event against WCW Champion Booker T. The whole thing turned out to be a disaster. Beyond that, The Rock and Kurt Angle were WCW Champion; two of the WWF's biggest stars wore that belt and treated it as equal to the WWF Championship before Jericho unified those belts. But what more respect is due to a dead brand do you require?

Shawn is arguably the biggest name they could induct to the WWF Hall of Fame for their current audience. (You could argue Bruno would be bigger, but he's not going to do it and most current/casual fans might not even know who he is.)
It makes sense to start with the biggest possible name, especially if it's the week when HOF tickets go on sale.

I was a fan of Serena, but I need clarification on this. What did she bring to the table, besides the role of a heel manager that can get away with stuff? Besides, you do need some guys in any stable that can job and hopefully not affect the heat of the group as a whole, and you certainly have that in Otunga. He gets the second most heat of anyone, and thus people are excited to see him get pinned or knocked out or what have you. And I quite enjoy Husky Harris and think he is a great stopgap measure until Skip comes back.
Besides, who is to say that Slater and Gabriel are really gone anyways? They can easily just come back next week and have a segment where they work things out with Punk.
Anyways, good Raw with some good matches and a great moment for HBK and Alberto. I now REALLY want Del Rio to win the Rumble.
Edit- I use the word "really" way too often.

Oh come on. Triple H hasn't touched that belt since 2005. That belt was also worn by Shawn Michaels, Randy Orton, Chris Benoit, Batista, Rey Mysterio, The Undertaker, Edge, CM Punk, John Cena, Jeff Hardy, Jack Swagger, and Kane. Yes, that one.

Yep, this was what I was going for, as well as specifically how Husky and Otunga are the best suited to compensate. I like to work highbrow sometimes, too.
Re: Michaels in the Hall of Fame this year, they specifically mentioned that he was a "first ballot Hall of Famer if ever there was one" last night. That's as good a reason as any to put him in this year, since the nature of wrestling - with people either meeting unfortunate ends, leaving the company under bad circumstances or never actually retiring in the first place - probably makes it pretty impossible to have someone actually "end" their career on a good note and stay that way for long enough to induct them that quickly (first ballot, in this HoF case, basically being put in the exact year they retire). And if Michaels goes in, he has to be the top guy in whatever year he does, because he's their ideal "greatest of all time" at the moment considering he's still healthy, popular and unlikely to do anything that would require pretending he doesn't exist for a few years without the Rock's unique status of not really needing WWE. | Torchslasher

| #31 Posted on 11.1.11 1853.32 | I definitely understand what is meant by your statement, Cubs and the good Doctor. Again though, Otunga is in a perfect position right now. The majority of the IWC thinks he sucks and the overwhelming majority of casual WWE fans thinks he sucks. He's not a heel that many people enjoy, like Alberto Del Rio or CM Punk. He is a heel that the majority of people want to see his ass get kicked. This is why I always have enjoyed the role David was given as a delusional, power-hungry dude.

I would not want to assume that any professional wrestler is not capable of doing something that would require their Stalin-like erasure of history.
Michaels might be a self-effacing born again christian now, but, given the number of concussions he presumably had had, he (well, like anyone really) could do something crazy at the drop of a hat.

Honestly, I agree with both of you. Otunga is a mess in the ring, even when just doing his finisher, but he's very good playing his role, and on top of that, seems like a nice guy who likes his job, so I like what he'd doing on TV at the moment. There have certainly been plenty of dudes who have been able to carve out careers in professional wrestling without really being able to wrestle much.
I think what I like most about Otunga is that sad scowl he does, where it's like he's a scheming badguy that can never win who KNOWS he's a scheming bad guy who can never win. It's like he's constantly feeling put-upon, even though he's the guy who's putting the upon upon himself.

I get away with posting enough complete nonsense here to know, on some level, that I can't start a "Let's book Shawn Michaels ruining his legacy in a CNN-worthy way" thread, but that doesn't mean I'm not going to put way to much thought into that very idea for a little bit now. | Parts Unknown

Yet his face was all "OMG! I luv being here!" so that betrayed the demeanor you claim.
Maybe he's got a skullet now and the only way to hide that is the skullcap? :) :)
Also, this is wrestling and if he dressed outside of character, people would act shocked. Flair in jeans would be insane. Shawn in a suit dancing to sexyboy would be bizarre. Though I expect that at the HoF :)

I'd guess a lot of that opinion stems from his recent mini-interview where he said something like "I'm coming to you from an undisclosed location, because if the WWE knew where I was they'd try to come get me back." A joke, but yeah, I think people wonder how much of that is true. | kentish

His character has dressed like that for some time, and he was in character Monday night. How did Austin dress when he came back for the Hof? Or Hogan? Like their characters. Save the suits for the ceremony.
They have announced plenty of guys who didn't appear, so I wouldn't assume he had to be there. I know not everyone loved the guy, but these remarks seem like grasping for reasons to take a shot at the guy.
