TONIGHT: Johnny Knoxville, hyping Jackass 3D, is the guest star of Raw tonight. Per last night’s match stipulations, John Cena will be forced to join Nexus. Other things to look for, related to last night, is that Randy Orton retained the WWE Title and Daniel Bryan kept the U.S. Title.

-WWE Open.

-Raw Open.

-Fireworks shot off inside the arena in Wichita, Kansas. Nexus came out first, sans John Cena. Wade Barrett first addressed the interference by Husky Harris and Michael McGillicutty last night. He said he didn’t need their help and he doesn’t know them, so they are not a part of the Nexus group. Secondly, he took issue with the rest of Nexus coming out during the match and risking a disqualification. He briefly chewed out David Otunga, whose idea it was, but then said it was a night for celebration and asked for a nice Nexus welcome for John Cena. Cena walked out, decked in his usual gear, with no music. He was not happy. When he got to the ring, Barrett said this will be the best thing that ever happened to him. Michael Tarver took the mic and said Cena threatened his livelihood and that Cena failed last night. He gave Cena the Nexus armband to tremendous heat. He and Cena got in an intense stare-down. Crowd chanted for Cena as he held the arm-band in his hands. He really milked the moment for the crowd reaction. Cena finally put the arm-band on. Heath Slater said the people want to hear from Cena, so they wrote a statement for him to read in public. Isn’t the point of these statements that people aren’t supposed to know they aren’t the words of the person? How does this make Cena look bad when it’s obvious he’s reading someone else’s words?

Barrett said this is non-negotiable when Cena appeared to balk at reading the statement. “I, John Cena, hereby acknowledge that I am officially a member of the Nexus. Any enemy of the Nexus is now an enemy of mine. As for my fans…I hope you can stand by me, because the fact of the matter is, you’re either Nexus or against us.” I was hoping he’d say, “as for my fans…you can all stick it, brother.” Barrett promised him things would get easier, but on deck, Cena will have his first match as a Nexus member. He said Evan Bourne and Mark Henry were ticked at Nexus for what they did next week, so Barrett is giving Cena the choice of his partner for tonight. Cena got right in Tarver’s face and pointed at him. Barrett said there’s no time like the present, so he called out Henry and Bourne for the match now. I didn’t know Barrett could book things too.

(1) John Cena & Michael Tarver vs. Evan Bourne & Mark Henry
Cena offered a handshake to Bourne, and Bourne accepted, much to the chagrin of Tarver. Cena then tagged in an angry Tarver and told him to show him the Nexus way that he was spouting. Tarver got in Bourne’s face and trash-talked him. They locked up, and Tarver kneed Bourne in the gut. Whip into the ropes and they focused on Cena on the apron as Tarver did his move off-camera. Bad timing for that one, but they were going to break.

[Commercial Break]

Back live with Henry on offense against Tarver. He wore down Tarver by working on the arm. Bourne tagged in to a good pop and jumped off the top rope, landing feet-first on Tarver’s arm. Tarver was close to a tag, but Cena seemed less-than-interested. Tarver again got close to a tag, but Cena got the alligator arms, and this time, he was close enough to where he could’ve actually made the tag. Front face-lock that didn’t really go anywhere and was kinda awkward. Henry then stepped over his fallen opposition. Standing moonsault by Bourne for two. Bourne got his feet up on a charge, but a belly-to-belly overhead suplex evened things up. The crowd ironically as getting behind Tarver, I believe, so he could tag Cena. Cena again pulled his hand back and went to ringside to sign autographs. Tarver yelled at him from the ring, where Henry was awaiting him. He picked Tarver up and gave him the World’s Strongest Slam. Fin.

Winners: Henry and Bourne, at 8:57. Certainly made sense for Cena not to give a crap. Match was fine.

Cena got a mic after the match and said he’d like to make a statement of his own. “I, John Cena as a member of Nexus, plan on doing one thing and one thing only as a member of this group: Destroying it from within. Tonight, I prove that you can be Nexus and against us.” Then, he bopped Tarver in the head with a mic as Michael Cole called Cena the “ultimate non-conformist.” Who is he trying to kid? Cena then clotheslined Tarver at ringside and took apart the steel steps. Where’s the rest of Nexus at this point? Bodyslam on the steel steps from Cena. Crowd chanted, “one more time.” Cena obliged and bodyslammed him again on it. Into the ring went Tarver, courtesy of his fellow Nexus member. He attacked Tarver, taking out his knee, then went for the STF. While in the hold, the GM e-mailed Cole.

The podium was on the other side of the announce desk. What could this mean??? The GM said that the stipulations for his match last night said that if he lost, he must join Nexus. The group takes its direction from Wade Barrett, and as a member of the group, Cena must do the same. If he doesn’t, as much the WWE Universe would hate it, the GM would have no alternative but to terminate Cena’s WWE contract. The GM continued, saying no one’s popularity is bigger than WWE. Cena showed off his slightly frustrated face for a while. The camera stayed on him for an extended period, to let it sink in and for the audience to acknowledge the situation. After a chant from the fans about not giving up (I think), they showed Cena walking to the back.

[Commercial Break]

(2) Alicia Fox vs. Natalya
Match began as soon as they returned from break. Natalya caught Fox on a cross-body attempt. Natalya went for the Sharpshooter early and got it.

Winner: Natalya, at :38. Really? That’s it? And no post-match stuff?

-They showed Edge destroying the GM computer last week. He’ll have to publicly apologize for that incident.

-Plus, guest star Johnny Knoxville, and he’s up next.

[Commercial Break]

-Backstage, Knoxville hyped up his movie to Gail Kim and Melina. Zack Ryder, from afar, and asked Knoxville what was up. Knoxville had a plan and walked toward Ryder. The big hand from the Jackass commercials swung and hit Ryder, sending him to the ground.

-John Cena was being interviewed backstage by Josh Mathews. He asked Mathews what he was going to do. Before he could get much of an answer out, he saw Harris and McGillicutty and ran after them…right into the Nexus locker room. Barrett said he saw what happened to Tarver…and they’ve got big plans for Cena.

[Commercial Break]

-Jerry Lawler thanked Atom Smash for the official HiaC theme song. The duo were shown at ringside as well.

(3) Daniel Bryan vs. Sheamus
Bryan was “currently in the ring.” An angry Sheamus went on the attack quickly, taking out his frustrations on Bryan in the corner. Knees to the face ensued after that. They were in the ropes though, and referee Charles Robinson called for the bell when Sheamus did not back away after a five-count.

Winner: Bryan, via DQ, at :27. At least Bryan didn’t get pinned cleanly, but it didn’t do anything positive for him either, a night after he helped put on a heck of a match.

Sheamus continued the assault, nailing Bryan with the High Cross.

-Edge was walking backstage, and he was coming out to the arena next.

[Commercial Break]

-Just shy of the top of the hour, the announcers re-set the show as it relates to Cena and Nexus. They showed Cena’s brief interview from a few moments ago.

-Cole was in the ring, with the podium and the laptop. He said the GM said he would no longer be communicating with his voice altered. Instead, he will continue to communicate via e-mail through Cole, the voice of WWE. Before Edge comes out, the GM wanted to review the events from last week, so we got a video package on Cena vs. Edge, plus the aftermath. Cole said that act of defiance was unacceptable, so two things will happen: The GM wants Edge to apologize, and then the GM will make a huge announcement regarding the WWE Title. Edge came out and said he wasn’t going to apologize for anything, saying he was on a personal crusade against all things stupid, and on Raw, there are a lot of stupid things. Edge said Cole has been the personification of “stupid” since 1997. He’d rather listen to a recording of JR than a live Michael Cole. Cole comically took umbrage with that. Edge said to wait ‘til he’s WWE Champ, then the GM will see attitude.

But the GM said that tonight, there will be a #1 Contender Match for the WWE Championship…and it’ll be done in a 20-man over-the-top-rope Battle Royal. The winner faces Randy Orton for the WWE Championship in three weeks at Bragging Rights. The GM said Edge has disrespected him one too many times. He said Edge wouldn’t be in the Battle Royal because he’s officially been traded to Smackdown. Cole really reveled in that announcement. Crowd chanted for a spear. Edge was happy, saying he never has to deal with a dumb GM again or listen to Cole give the worst catchphrase in WWE history. “And I quote…” Cole went into full heel mode, saying his Cole Miners love that catchphrase, and as the voice of WWE, Edge needs to treat him with respect. Edge asked if it would be respectful if he knocked Cole off the podium and speared him into next week? But then The Miz’s music interrupted and he and Alex Riley walked out. He came to Cole’s rescue, since Cole saw the true talent of Miz before anyone else. Edge called Miz an “Edge wannabe.” Miz said they’re nothing alike and Edge said he’s right, since Miz has never been WWE Champion. Riley stood up for Miz, saying he is awesome. Edge said Miz is awesome…at tapping out to Daniel Bryan.

Cole said Miz’s knee was still bothering him last night. Miz said Edge’s attempts at agitation will not work. He said at Bragging Rights, he’ll either be in a WWE Title match, or he’ll be leading the Raw team to a win over the Smackdown team, so he told Edge to go tell his friends on SyFy. Edge said that with all due respect to Johnny Knoxville, it’s The Miz who is the true Jackass of Raw. He then attacked Riley, and threw Miz into the podium, which knocked the computer to the mat. Edge speared Riley, but Miz came from behind and gave Edge the Skull-Crushing Finale. Cole then lamented about how he could’ve been hurt in the ring. Pretty good segment, and Edge’s non-face turn seems to be working better than his previous one.

-Back in the locker room, Barrett said Cena did him a favor by taking out Tarver, since he’s been looking to get rid of him for a while. What have they been doing since the last shot of Cena in the locker room? Anyway, Barrett demanded that Cena help him win the Battle Royal. Cena asked what would happen if he didn’t. Barrett said it didn’t matter. Otunga told Cena that if Barrett gets eliminated, he must help another Nexus member win. Barrett took offense to that and Otunga tried to back-track, but Barrett focused on Cena, saying he’ll do what he says, or he’ll be fired.

[Commercial Break]

-Cole plugged that Alberto Del Rio would face Rey Mysterio this Friday on Smackdown, and said to go to WWE.com for more info about Smackdown on SyFy.

(4) The Bella Twins vs. LayCool
Layla and McCool had mics in their ear, so they could talk all the way to the ring without having to hold a mic. And they wore them during the match too. One of the Bellas launched herself with a forearm at McCool. “You can’t hit my friend!” shouted Layla from ringside. Layla broke up a pin, then took out one of the Bellas as Layla checked on McCool. The ref got Layla out of the ring as the Bellas did the switcheroo. McCool went for a cover, but the Bella Twin rolled McCool up for the win.

Winners: The Bellas, at 1:05. This is a gimmick you’ll either love or hate.

-Backstage, Johnny Knoxville was with Maryse. Maryse accused him of sending the messages, but Knoxville denied it. DiBiase was in the doorway and said it was Knoxville who did it. He started advancing toward Knoxville, who tried to warn him, but DiBiase too walked right into the big hand. Maryse threw her shoes at Knoxville, then turned around and the big hand slapped her in the back, sending her to the ground on top of DiBiase. Knoxville apologized profusely as DiBiase was livid. “What a trainwreck,” said Cole. True.

[Commercial Break]

-The announcers talked on-camera about Knoxville’s movie, Jackass 3D. They showed a preview of the movie.

-Justin Roberts introduced the Raw guest star. Knoxville came out and said it was great to be back on Monday Night Raw. He plugged his movie and said he had a ball and tried to head out before anything happened to him. But before he could leave the ring, DiBiase and Maryse walked out. Knoxville tried to apologize again, but DiBiase wasn’t having it. He said he was just trying to make Maryse laugh, like DiBiase did…when she saw him for the first time with no pants on. Knoxville tried to cover by saying he meant he was wearing funny boxers. DiBiase said it was so funny, he head to give Knoxville a hand, then slapped him. He slapped on the Million Dollar Dream next. “You are mine” was the message on the TitanTron, with gold lighting in the ring. From behind, it was Goldust. He gave DiBiase his finisher suplex and got the mic. He said he didn’t want DiBiase, then got in Maryse’s face…and said he didn’t want her either. He knelt down in front of the Million Dollar belt and caressed it. He said he wanted it. He continued to play with the title as his music played.

-They showed a graphic for the 20-man Battle Royal, which is next. Hey, Darren Young is in there!

[Commercial Break]

-Cole plugged a contest to win tickets to Nickelback and Las Vegas, held on WWE.com.

-A video package aired on WWE’s efforts with the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

-Lawler and Cole talked about the trade that sent Edge to Smackdown. So who comes to Raw? And also, Cena joining Nexus at the outset. We saw Cena’s attack on Tarver after their tag match.

-Cena was backstage, staring at the Nexus arm-band in his hand. He was approached by Otunga, who said Nexus isn’t all bad. He tried to be friendly with Cena and said Barrett can be a bit demanding, but they said they can make this work. He told Cena that if he ever needed to talk, he’d be there for him.

-Back to Cole and Lawler, who reiterated that if Cena goes against Barrett’s wishes, he’ll get fired. They discussed the Battle Royal and said Edge won’t be in it, and neither will Chris Jericho, thanks to what happened to him last week. They showed the punt to Jericho. Cole said Jericho would be out indefinitely.

-John Morrison came out first for the battle royal, followed by R-Truth, Vladimir Kozlov and Santino Marella, Sheamus, then John Cena’s music, but no Cena. After a pause, the Nexus theme played and the Nexus members walked out, with Cena following far behind. They went to break after Cena got into the ring. I always wonder how they decide on the order of entrances for battle royals like this.

[Commercial Break]

(5) 20-Man Over-The-Top-Rope Battle Royal- Winner Becomes #1 Contender for WWE Championship
All the Raw Superstars went after Nexus. Bourne was eliminated by Sheamus like four seconds in, with a Brogue Kick. David Hart Smith was next to be thrown out, about 20 seconds in. William Regal was out at :35 by Cena. Ryder went after CEna, but that went about as well as you’d expect. Justin Gabriel hung on during an elimination attempt by Morrison. Santino was out by Miz at 1:47. Henry lifted Ryder up and threw him out at 1:59. He picked Primo up over his head and Primo was gone at 2:12. Barrett and Otunga teamed up on Kozlov in the corner. Henry tried to eliminate Barrett via a press slam, but Cena saved him. Henry was dumbfounded. All of Nexus attacked Henry and they threw him out at 3:16. Cena didn’t help though, and Otunga yelled at him. That earned him an elimination via Cena at 3:28. The rest of Nexus continued to yell at Nexus as they went to break.

[Commercial Break]

Back live, and hilariously, everyone seemed to be just standing around. Then things started to pick up a tad. During the break, Kozlov was tossed by Barrett and Gabriel and Slater took out Young. Cena seemed to just stand guard and protect Barrett. He held off DiBiase before he could attack Barrett. Sheamsu tried to toss Slater to no avail. Slater missed wildly with a clothesline and Morrison sent him packing at 9:40. Truth and Morrison tried to eliminate Barrett while Cena was tangled with DiBiase. Cena did manage to make the save, however. Kidd was sent packing by Morrison at 10:40. Cena again blocked Barrett. Miz and Truth tussled and Miz felled him with a few boots to the face. Morrison held on when Miz tried to take him out, and he ended up grabbing Miz with his feet and taking him out at 12:01. Sheamus and DiBiase worked together, with DiBiase going at Cena so Sheamus could row with Barrett. Cena then went after Sheamus, throwing him out of Barrett’s corner. Gabriel missed a cross-body, but held on. Unfortunately for him, Truth kicked him out a second later at 13:27. Truth out at 13:39. Down to Morrison, Cena, Barrett, DiBiase and Sheamus. DiBiase chucked out by Barrett at 14:06. Morrison and Sheamus went after Cena, but Barrett got involved and attacked Morrison. Barrett got Morrison up for Wasteland but Morrison stayed on the apron. He kicked Barrett, but his momentum took him out at 15:27. Cena landed his pet moves on Sheamus while Barrett convalesced in the corner. Sheamus up for the AA, but it was countered and the Irish Curse back-breaker connected. Brogue Kick missed, but Sheamus held on on the apron. Cena knocked him out at 16:47. Cena vs. Barrett was all that was left. Barrett pointed to the back, intimating for Cena to head over the top rope. But Cena wasn’t budging. Barrett again told Cena to go. “Let’s go Cena” chant, and Cena went forehead-to-forehead with Barrett. Cena swallowed his pride and climbed over the top and to the apron. He once again stared at Barrett. Finally, he hopped to ringside.

Winner: Barrett, at 19:35. Lots of drama in this one, and one interesting story point.

Before Barrett could celebrate too much, the heretofore unseen WWE Champion Randy Orton appeared on the scene. The two circled each other in the ring and Orton got in Barrett’s face, raising his title over his head. The show faded out at this point.

I really liked this show. Everything with Cena and Nexus was terrific. Cena hasn't been that over as a face in a long time. I'm going to miss Michael Tarver terribly though. I know he's injured, but he's awesome and a fuck of a lot better than Otunga. Hopefully Otunga is being set up as the next guy to die. Then, amazingly enough, Nexus would have Barrett backed up by four pretty good workers in Gabriel, Slater, Husky, and MM.

I'm just not going to take the bait on Sheamus and Daniel Bryan since it's obv supposed to provoke me, a man on the internet. No dice!

Edge should've woken up as a babyface on Smackdown and discovered that the five months he spent as a heel on Raw were all just a dream. Michael Cole was amazing in that segment. I like Team Edge vs. Team Miz (w/ Bryan and Morrison) at Bragging Rights.

Waited for Lawler to point out that he invented calling your own match while LayCool was broadcasting live during theirs. Cole treated the match (correctly) like an NXT segment. "This is terrible!"

Mixed feelings on the execution of CeNexus. Only allowing Cena to wear the armband but still wear the rest of his merchandise (afraid sales will drop if he doesn't?) reeks of half-assedness to me. Cena should have been forced to commit fully and surrender his individual identity. Would that have been too much to take? I don't think so. In for a penny, in for a pound, I say. I was looking forward to not seeing Cena in CeNation gear or hear his music for a while.

Cena destroying Tarver annoyed me initially, but what really bugged me was how it highlighted the internal questions about how Barrett runs the Nexus. It's been glossed over until now but why is Barrett so nonchalant about the Nexus weakening in numbers? He didn't care that Tarver was taken out and was looking to get rid of him eventually? Why? Why is Tarver less valuable to Barrett than Otunga [Edit: I didn't know Tarver is hurt], who is now deliberately challenging his authority? By the way, WWE Creative must be watching old Transformers cartoons because Barrett is now Megatron and Otunga has turned into Starscream.

On the plus side, Barrett's shit eating grin when Cena donned the N armband (on the wrong arm!) was classic supervillain evil: http://twitpic.com/2uqv55

Oh no. I deleted RAW already and I forgot to screencap Michael Cole's facial expression on the podium like I did Barrett's grin when Edge said he's been the symbol of stupidity for the past 13 years.

Edge had a "live celebration". Can't say "sex", no, no. Think of the children! Won't someone please think of the children!

I hope this will all happen over time, 'cause each time they make him change something could be a great heat angle. The music was a great start.
Wade: "John, I'm sorry, but we're going to have to ask you to change your shirt."

So one night after competing in Hell in a Cell Sheamus is able to destroy the US Champion and compete until the very end of a 20-man battle royal without showing any signs of weakness?

If GM Speak and Spell fired Cena, why wouldn't Teddy Long sign him to SD?
Have a feeling eventually we are going to see the Midnight Cena.
They should have done the JJ Dillon Bunkhouse Stampede ending when the members of the Horsemen high 5'd JJ before eliminating themselves, until Luger turned on James Julius Caesar Dillon by eliminating him to win the Bunkhouse Stampede.
Wonder if they'll recall that Dustin challenged for Million Dollar Belt 20 years ago against Teddy's dad.

This is the first time I actually gave a crap about Cena's character. So, for one week this whole thing worked. I would love to see Cena fight his against his urges to embrace his new role, but I have a feeling he is going to start playing the Nexus guys against each other like another episode of Survivor.

Michael Cole was Godly tonight.

If they said what Edge was traded for I missed it, but if the GM was really pissed it should be a draft pick for next year, a player to be named later, or my favorite 'Future Considerations'.

How freaking great would it be if the entire run as Goldust was just a ploy to finally get that belt? The making out with Ahmed Johnson. Losing his wife to Pillman. Getting tourette's. All to get his hands on that belt.

I was hoping that the mystery trade bait would come out during the battle royal (wouldn't really make sense unless they establish that the GM already had this idea last night and told the SD guy to be at Raw), but hopefully we see someone come over next week.

I agree with you on Cole and on the Nexus angle. Cena learned this week that he can't just fight Nexus or be an unwilling participant. Going forward, he will play the "Barrett is holding you guys down" card on the rest of Nexus and eventually destroy them from within like he said he would do all along.

I really enjoyed this Raw.

The US Champ is a (1)97-lb. weakling compared to Sheamus, so I didn't have a problem with that so much. And he was plenty gassed at the end of the battle royal and only got a couple eliminations in at the beginning.

I fully expected this to happen, only with the Cena elimination playing out like it ultimately did in the end.

Yeah, I see what you're saying, but he should have done something to sell the effects of being in what is supposedly the most brutal match in the WWE just one night prior. It just devalues the HiaC match for me.

One other thing I forgot to mention, was it just me or was Maryse really having trouble not cracking up while trying to sell that she was intimidated by Golddust?

Ok, I'll go ahead and ask. So who did Edge get traded for? The rights to Christian or the bloated corpse of Matt Hardy and a future #1 draft pick?

They're clearly setting up for SOMEONE to punk out Cole royally, but considering he seems to have put his antipathy towards Daniel Bryan behind him, who's the lucky guy that gets to give Cole the beatdown of a lifetime?

A lot of interesting stuff happening with the Nexus. I'm not talking about Cena. You have to know they're going to hit the FFWD button on that angle and it should be over by the end of the Bragging Rights PPV. I'm talking about this subtle sub-angle with Otunga trying to upstage Barrett. God knows if Otunga could wrestle worth a damn, it might make him interesting.

If we're formally inducting the two Season 2'ers into Nexus, the first thing they need to do (as members of a renegade faction, after all) is formally denounce their WWE-assigned names and go back to their cooler real names. Down with "Husky Harris" and "Michael McGuillillillicutty" and up with Windham Rotunda and Joe Hennig!

I'm sorry but there is no name cooler than Husky Harris.
It's so bad it is good. MM can change tho.

(and thinking about it, Windham Rotunda is a good name because we know the history behind it. If I did not know this, I'd put it right there with Braden Walker as "who invents this crap?")

It's not a new thing, Otunga's been Starscreaming since the beginning. Remember he was the one that said if Barret lost his match during the episode Young was booted, he'd be removed as leader and expelled also.

I am hoping this leads to a great push for Goldust, as this was done really well the past couple weeks and Goldust looks to have lost weight

I think they said the condition was Cena would be fired from WWE, not just RAW.

Not if they are planning to do a slow heel turn here (maybe by Otunga taking Cena into it, like he tried last night). I'm not saying that that is what they will do, but it would be a great way. Cena could wear more Nexus armbands every week, then a Nexus cap and finally the shirt.

All in all I really like the execution of the angle so far. It's getting better from week to week and they aren't rushing the thing.
