I thought Raw was good, the last segment being an unexpected throwback to the rabid crowds WWE had 7-10 years ago, maybe longer.

Have to jump in on this Rock stuff. I agree they probably wouldn't bring him back unadvertised. What I don't see how it would work. He is arguably the biggest star the company has ever had and what he and Austin and attitude did still is rippling through the company today. Yes, the writing was awful after he left, yes they did a poor job of pushing new stars, yes they suffered from deaths and quitters. Most of all though, I think they suffered from no one being near the level of Rock or Austin. They both brought an excitement, or a sizzle, or whatever you want to call it, that no one has matched since.

Think of the last few times he was seen on WWE tv. He cut that pre taped promo for the tenth anniversary of Smackdown. And it blew away anything any of the current guys can do. Before that, was his induction speech at the hall of fame. And he had everyone in the palm of his hands again for that one. What I'm saying is I'm not sure it's good for long term business to have him around. He is too good at the promos, and I doubt he would ever want to be an active wrestler again.

Say he came back for one night, guest host. His promo style is going to ridicule Nexus, completely. Rock always mocked people on the mic and put them over in the ring. And what reason would he have to get in the ring and take a massive beat down from Nexus? It wouldn't be building to him going over long term, he isn't going to be there. So he is going to come back, take a beat down and head back to Hollywood? Just when he is getting non-wrestling recognition and starring as Dwayne Johnson? I mean, he put over Brock and Goldberg and Angle on the way out, and he has professed to love the wrestling business. But, I don't see the benefit for either side from him returning. Yeah, if he is willing to wrestle they could promote the hell out of it and have a huge ppv buy. But then he is gone, and we (I), are left with, "Holy Shit, Rock is fucking awesome these guys don't compare." WWE is just getting away from this and building a new crop that fans care about. Think of who was in the ring when the crowd exploded multiple times Monday night. God knows I love the Rock, I've defended him here for many years, but it has reached the point where he should only come back to enter the hall of fame and maybe wrestle one last "special attraction" match at that years wrestlemania where he can put over someone huge and still leave with the good promo from the hall of fame.

That's what I think. I'd still go crazy in my living room if he showed up though.

Rock being used to take out Nexus is like using a nuke on a street gang. I would expect half of them to shit their pants and the other half to ask for his autograph. Its bad enough that Super-Cena is in the match. I think it would be interesting if Cena was the first or second guy eliminated just for the shock value and add some drama to the match. If its HHH as the 7th man I expect a heel turn since its much like Rock, its way too much star power against a bunch of rookies.

Nexus did a good job building themselves up on Monday Night, but they are going up against 4 Hall of Famers, 1 already inducted, 2 which are in their prime, the other one is maybe at the height of his game and 2 great up and comers. The odds are already stacked them no need to further stack the odds. It runs the danger of them getting underdog sympathy from the crowd and the fans start cheering for them while shitting all over Team Raw which any match with Cena has a good chance to be depending on the crowed. It has lessend in years and its in California and not the East Coast, but its a Big 4 event and most hardcore WWE fans, some who hate Cena, tend to travel well for these events. They might be better off with Miz or Bourne, someone there just to eat a pin.

So if you were a football coach and the opposing team had a rookie who had consistently blew away opposing defenses, you wouldn't bother putting your star safety against him since he was just a rookie?

See incident Re: Hurricane Helms for precedent there.

Sadly, the odds of him being the seventh man are about the same as the return of the Dancing Fools.

To tie both together, I now predict the seventh man to be Tokyo Magnum.

So who is the Rock ahead of on your list: Bruno, Hogan or Austin?

If it were me, I would argue that Bruno wasn't in the same company has Hogan, Austin or Rock, regardless of levels of fame.

They have been going up against these guys for two months now and as long as they are together they've beaten all of these potential hall of famers. Sure, Super-Cena is in tiptop shape the week after, but they did beat him down over and over, to the point where he has to beg for his enemies to help him out.
Jericho and Edge are pretty much only on the team because they realize they constantly get their asses kicked.

Nexus as a unit is better than the 6 not-so-unified Raw guys. If Raw works together they oughta be able to beat them. But they won't. So therefor the seventh guy will be important and will play a factor.

(And yeah I know the above only works when you buy into the story and not when you look at facts, but sometimes you gotta pretend it's all real what you see)

And tbh, the Cena hate seems to have lessened a lot yeah.
I don't fear a backlash for this match.

I see Nexus as a unit made so effective by their shadow leader, and that figure makes the final RAW teammate a crucial decision. Whoever joins RAW can't be a bigger name than the mysterious Nexus leader, because the latter has to be a threat to RAW.

RAW revelation: Oh, cool.
Nexus revelation: Oh, $*#@.

If it doesn't happen that way, Nexus looks weak as soon as the RAW guys hits the ramp, and the angle wilts.

Just so we're clear, are you seriously suggesting that if the seventh man were The Rock that fans will actually start cheering for the team that doesn't feature The Rock? Seriously?

Also, there are people in Team RAW who get booed a bit more often than Cena and Nexus are drawing as much heel heat as anything in the business right now. If the crowd are somehow to turn on Team RAW it will have nothing to do with the actions of Cena or The Rock.

Of course, the main reason that it will have nothing to do with The Rock is that the seventh man ISN'T THE ROCK. It's more likely to be ME than The Rock firfucksake.

So feel free to put "dMr as 7th man" down at a likelihood of 15%. With a heel turn, 90%. Just to make sure the numbers make sense.

If its Rock then the fans will go crazy and the match will be about Rock's return then anything else. Any hint of Cena/Rock tension will be magnified while the progress Nexus made will be gone unless they win which I think is very low maybe 1% if its Rock unless he turns heel. HHH if he doesn't turn on Team WWE will be overkill and then you might have some fans turning on Team WWE. Even Vince joining Team Raw has the potential of making Nexus a face since when they beat the shit out of him, they got a giant pop. They have to be careful who this person and I agree with Matt Tracker, it can't be anyone huge unless that person is really the secret leader of Nexus who turns on Team WWE. I also think that if there is a secret leader and it is HHH, Rock, HBK or someone of that level, it would overshadow the rest of the group. They have to be very careful if there is a secret leader and who the 7th man will be as well as how they use that person.

WWE Big 4 crowds are weird, I know I've been in a few of them and its a very smarky crowd then you would get at a Raw or Smackdown or even a regular PPV. Its an expansive ticket to get and they tend to be harder to come by , so the PG kid fans are not as big as a regular show. They also tend to lean more towards the heel, don't ask me why, but they do. Nexus has been hot and it won't shock me to see a split crowd for that match as well as it being one of the hottest matches of the year.

PTI does not do multiple Oddsmakers for the same topic, and even if they did, Tony wouldn't say that there's a 60% chance the Patriots win the Super Bowl and a 55% chance they miss the playoffs.

Personally I think that it is somewhat fruitless to compare names/draws of the pre-PPV era to the post PPV era, so I was omitting Bruno on the grounds that the comparison is apples to oranges. Bruno sold out the Garden three billion times, but the Rock's couple of big WM matches may have been seen by as many paying customers as all of those MSG cards combined. The comparison just gets too complex for easy reference, so Bruno gets to be the king of the WWWF for purposes of this discussion.

I look forward to the new catchphrase of wrestler Dewayne Johnson. "Do you SEE what Dewayne is Flaying?"
