TONIGHT: The Miz was your Money In the Bank winner last night, so I’m sure he’ll get some promo time on the show this evening. Sheamus retained his belt and John Cena continued to try to take out Nexus one-by-one.

-WWE Open.

-Raw Open.

-After panning the crowd, they showed stills of Nexus trying to attack Cena and Sheamus as they both tried to leave the cage last night at the PPV.

-They also announced that Wade Barrett would face Mark Henry, by order of the GM, with no Nexus at ringside.

(1) Randy Orton vs. Chris Jericho vs. Edge- Winner Faces WWE Champion at Summerslam
Orton went after Edge and Jericho, but Jericho halted those plans soon after they began. Orton fired back on both heels. Jericho and Edge slowed things down when in control. Double DDT by Orton, and he got a long of hang-time as it was a counter to a double back-drop. Kneedrops to Edge as Orton began to pick him apart. RKO was countered and he was pushed into Jericho, who connected with the Codebreaker, but Edge broke up the pin. Edge and Jericho fought at ringside as they went to break.

[Commercial Break]

Jericho and Edge were still fighting on the outside. Orton knocked Jericho off the apron and into Edge, who was at ringside. Rope-assisted DDT on Jericho by Orton, but Edge again broke up the pin. Jericho threw Edge into the announce table and worked Orton over. Orton came back against both men. Walls of Jericho were locked in on Orton, but Jericho got DDT’d by Edge. Spear was countered into the Walls. Rope break on that one. RKO was countered with an Edge-o-Matic (which beat Orton last week), but only a two. A series of roll-ups from the three men led into Edge being tossed over the top. Jericho finally got RKO’d. Edge came back in though, and received an RKO himself and was pinned.

Winner: Orton, at 15:11. Good match and I don’t mind Orton winning here.

[Commercial Break]

-Edge was still in the ring, and he was calling Jericho back out. Jericho came out as Edge ranted about how many times they’ve feuded and how it needs to end tonight. Jericho said that for the first time in 11 years, he agrees with Edge. He said last week, Wade Barrett admitted that he trained him and he could snap his fingers and make Nexus do his bidding. Edge disagreed and said he could make Nexus an offer too, since they probably don’t like Jericho taking credit for their success. Nexus then came out to presumably settle things.

Barrett told them not to argue amongst themselves. He said Nexus would be lucky to call either of them an ally. Wade told Edge that Nexus wouldn’t take years off his career…they’d end it. Edge tried to fight, but Nexus beat him down. He even got speared by Skip Sheffield. Jericho applied the Walls after cheering them on, but he slowly realized he was getting the stare-down from everyone in Nexus. Barrett said Edge was also right, in that they didn’t like Jericho claiming credit for Nexus. Jericho too got the first lick in, but he was outnumbered and beaten down as well. Spinebuster from David Otunga. Barrett did some bad-mouthing of Jericho too, before they left.

[Commercial Break]

-They showed a replay of Nexus’ attacks.

-Nexus was walking backstage when Josh Mathews caught up with Barrett. He asked if any of Nexus can compete with the strength of Mark Henry. Barrett asked Mathews if he was shaking with fear. Mathews of course was. Sheamus walked up before Barrett could head into the locker room and said he had a proposition for the group. Barrett invited him into the locker room, but Sheamus wisely decided to stay outside.

-John Cena was on the Titan-Tron as Michael Cole asked him a few questions from the announce position. Cena said he had the chance to shake Barrett’s hand several weeks ago, but didn’t. He acted like he regretted it and said Nexus has made his life hell. He said that if you can’t beat’em….then walked out of the picture.

[Commercial Break]

-Cole and Lawler sent it to a replay of Cena’s closing comments.

(2) Eve Torres vs. Maryse
Maryse was accompanied to the ring by Ted DiBiase. DiBiase joined the commentators at ringside. Eve pie-faced Maryse, but Maryse slapped her back. DiBiase said Maryse will be the #1 Contender to the Divas Title if she wins this match. Forearm to the face of Eve, and another. Eve ended up getting the win with a kick to the head, even though Maryse’s foot was on the ropes.

Winner: Eve, at 1:17. Nothing much going on here.

As DiBiase argued with the ref, John Morrison ran out in blue jeans to take the fight to DiBiase. Knee to the face then Starship Pain. Hot crowd, btw.

[Commercial Break]

-Cole plugged WWE.com for ringside photos of last night’s PPV.

-Sheamus was introduced by Justin Roberts. Sheamus said he has beaten Cena in a Tables Match, Fatal Four-Way and now, inside a Steel Cage. Haha, he said “third” and it sounded like “turd.” Anyway, he said he’s dominated Cena now. Sheamus talked about how he and Wade Barrett are now the two most powerful entities in WWE. He said he’d be the longest-running WWE Champion of all-time, but then Miz’s music hit and he walked out with his MITB briefcase.

He congratulated Sheamus for getting rid of the Nexus problem, but said now, he has a Miz problem. Miz said he controls things now. He went through a hypothetical: Orton hits Sheamus with an RKO at Summerslam, and Miz is there to capitalize. Or maybe Sheamus does a backstage interview and Miz hits him over the head with a briefcase, drags him to the ring and beats him. Or maybe…he waits. “Every breath you take, every move you make…I’ll be watching you.” Sheamus interrupted Miz’s catchphrase and said Miz is nothing and he’s WWE Champion. New e-mail from the GM: Should Miz want to cash in his MITB contract tonight, he should sit at ringside and watch the next match- Sheamus vs. Evan Bourne. And Miz did take a seat.

(3) Sheamus vs. Evan Bourne
Bourne with a knee to the jaw that immediately sent Sheamus out to ringside. He pounded on the announce desk in anger and yelled at Cole and Lawler. They went to break :30 in.

[Commercial Break]

Sheamus was on the outside, but on the other side of the ring. He drew Bourne out and took over control there. Sheamus went for a cover and only got two. Boots in the corner by the champ. Bourne fought out of a chinlock, but Sheamus slammed him back down to cut off his momentum. That got a two-count. Another rear chinlock. Bourne worked out of it and kicked at Sheamus’ legs. Sheamus took him to the corner and slapped little Evan Bourne. More kicks from Bourne. Sunset flip for two. Wild clothesline missed from the WWE Title-holder and Bourne kicked him down. He went to the top for Air Bourne as Miz was ready to pounce. Sheamus rolled out of the ring, so Bourne jumped and splashed him at ringside. Back in the ring, Sheamus used the ref as a shield and the pump kick gave Sheamus the pinfall win.

Winner: Sheamus, at 10:31. Bourne has been losing a lot lately, but he went 10:00 with the champ in this match, which must be a good sign.

Miz attacked post-match, using the briefcase. He tried to go for the Skull-Crushing Finale on the briefcase, but Sheamus fought it. In the end, Miz connected and told the ref he wants to cash it in. The ref had to make sure Sheamus was conscious before he started the match. Miz writhed in the corner, ready to go. R-Truth’s music hit and he came to the ring. Miz went to ringside and reneged on his cashing in his shot, taking the briefcase and briefly scuffling with Truth before heading up the ramp.

-John Cena has called a meeting with the entire Nexus in the arena later tonight.

-But first, Mark Henry vs. Wade Barrett, with no Nexus members allowed at ringside.

[Commercial Break]

-Miz was hugging his briefcase backstage, almost in shock. Josh Mathews walked up and said he must be pretty mad right now. Duh, Josh. Miz fumed and said he was robbed of his WWE Title by R-Truth. Then he calmed down and said he has an entire year to take his rightful place as WWE Champion.

-Lawler and Cole talked about Orton winning the #1 Contender’s Match to start the show. Then they sent it to a Summerslam Rewind, from 1998: Steve Austin vs. The Undertaker.

-Sheamus was being assisted backstage by a trainer and the referee. He had an ice pack on his head. He passed the Bellas and Gail Kim laughing in the hallway and he angrily asked if they really think this is funny. Then he came across Orton. Orton said it’s too bad what just happened, but since he’s champion, he’s a target. Orton said he’d hit that target with an RKO.

-Cena was pondering things backstage as Lawler voiced-over, wondering if Cena was going to offer to join Nexus.

[Commercial Break]

-John Morrison was shown on the cover of Muscle & Fitness Magazine.

(4) Santino Marella & Vladimir Kozlov vs. William Regal & Zack Ryder
Man, it was only a few weeks ago that Ryder looked to have some upward mobility. Now he’s stuck in the comedy segments. School-boy take-down by Ryder on Marella, who then tagged out to Vlad. He didn’t do much and soon it was Regal and Santino back in. Regal aggressively went after Santino and Ryder came in and tried to put Marella away. To the second rope, Ryder missed a dropkick. Santino kicked Ryder away and made a tag to Kozlov to no reaction from the crowd. Kick to the head, then a powerslam to Ryder. Regal tried to get involved, providing a distraction. Ryder tried the Rough Rider Leg Lariat but Kozlov caught him in a spinebuster. Santino begged for a tag and landed his jumping headbutt for the victory.

Winners: Kozlov and Marella, at 2:56. What a waste of Regal and Ryder.

-Wade Barrett was discussing things with Nexus backstage. Barrett takes on Mark Henry next.

[Commercial Break]

(5) Wade Barrett vs. Mark Henry
Barrett started the match with caution, standing on the steps after the bell rang to make Henry wait. He came in and got punched in the head by Henry, then went to ringside to regroup. Henry had a band-aid on his forehead to show the after-effects of the MITB match. Barrett hammered away at Henry to no avail. Henry then unloaded on Barrett in the corner. Clothesline out of the corner by Barrett. Headbutt to Henry and he finally started going after the leg/knee of Mizark. Big slam by Henry and a cover got two. Henry moved Barrett to the corner, but Barrett got to him as he got on the second rope. He put Henry on his back and slammed him down to the mat with his finisher, though Barrett fell with it. Nevertheless, it was enough to get the win.

Winner: Barrett, at 3:20. Impressive looking finish and a fine story, but not very entertaining match up ‘til the end.

The rest of Nexus walked out and Barrett got a mic, telling John Cena to come out so they can do things now. Cena was shown walking backstage…he’s next.

[Commercial Break]

-They replayed the finish of the previous match after showing the Nexus group in the ring. Michael Tarver got the mic and said they already made one truce tonight. He said they’re giving Cena their word that at least they’ll hear him out. If Cena acknowledges and understands that Nexus runs the show, things will be OK. He told Cena to come out and show some remorse for assaulting Darren Young a few weeks ago, and the rest of Nexus last night. If he does, he said that maybe Nexus will consider ending “this.” Cena walked out. He had the mic and stood on the apron, facing Nexus in the ring. Cena thanked Barrett for meeting him out there and talked of his two title opportunities that were wasted by Nexus. He was very serious and said he should’ve made a truce with them a long time ago. He was almost getting choked up as he said he was out there asking each Nexus member for the same thing. Barrett spoke for the group and answered “no.” He said he wasn’t interested in a truce, or even an olive branch. Barrett said he was looking for something bigger: He wanted Cena to join them.

Barrett made his sales pitch and said they’d be unstoppable. He admitted it isn’t much of a choice since you’re either Nexus, or against us. But Sheamus is neither, right? Cena had his head down, presumably thinking about the offer. “No, I can’t do it,” replied Cena. Barrett told Cena he can live the ring with his tail between his legs like the coward he is; or he can stand in the ring and they will give him the most vicious beating Nexus has ever administered. It’s like Sophie’s Choice. Cena left the ring and began to walk up the ramp. At the top of the stage, Cena stopped and addressed Barrett. He said that whether he does it himself or has help, he’ll take them all down. He walked toward the ring again and said the peace offering was a test, and now he’s got help. He said he’s been forming a team, a team that would take down Nexus at Summerslam. Did he get that OK’d by the GM? The team was revealed as Edge, John Morrison, R-Truth, The Great Khali (are you serious?), Chris Jericho…and Bret Hart. Nexus went nuts in the ring upon seeing that, despite Hart being old and barely mobile in the ring. The Cena-led faction hit the ring and Nexus ran off through the crowd. Bret’s music played to end things as the two teams had a long-distance shouting match.

A great angle. Faces And Heels Must Unite Against Trouble is one of my favorite things in wrestling. It's ridic that Cena's new best friend Evan Bourne isn't on the team though. Great Khali, what a waste. And yeah I'm a sucker I thought Daniel Bryan was going to be #7.

Ominous, though: Nexus Curse strikes Barrett's back and Darren Young's hair.

The Miz deal was very good too, but his feud with R-Truth got blown off in one run-in.

I want to see Morrison & Melina vs. DiBiase & Maryse. It bears repeating, girls can't win Money in the Bank.

I watched some bits and pieces of the show.

- I gotta say, they made the right call with giving Miz the briefcase.

- Bourne looked great against Sheamus. And speaking of Sheamus, he's also been great IMHO.

- When is Danielson's three months up? I could see him taking the spot of someone on Team Cena.

Overall, from what I saw a great show. And there's a lot of young talent out there who seem to be giving some opportunities.

EDIT: I agree, Justin, that the Faces/Heels uniting is an awesome thing. Everyone on the team but Khali made sense due to Nexus attacks, especially with placing Jericho last (you know when JERICHO teams up with you it's a dire situation).

As for Khali, it only makes they would pick him over Bourne sadly. Logically speaking, the fellow is rather large.

Khali has been solely comedy material lately, but at least he's huge, which justifies (I guess) his spot.

Bret Hart is the one who is taking up Bourne's spot. Hopefully Bret decides to step aside & give his spot to Bourne (provided Evan isn't slotted for something else at SumSlam).

But now, it would only make sense that at some point between now and SummerSlam, Nexus take out the largest and strongest member of the CeNation in a brutal seven-on-one beatdown opening a spot for Triple H...I mean Evan Bourne...I mean Daniel Bryan...I mean The Rock.

I wasn't able to watch closely tonight; did the mystery GM use another catch phrase as a red herring, or no?

My first thought when I saw Bret Hart was that hey, maybe HE'S the man behind Nexus!

Guess that Triple H surgery was bad enough to postpone the much-assumed Sheamus-HHH SummerSlam headliner. Oh well.

Miz was the star of the show. Last night, when I correctly picked him to win the briefcase and marked out when he did, I thought about how a year ago, I never would have been happy to see him win anything, much less position to become WWE Champion. He's come the farthest of anyone in the company in one year (besides Sheamus, who was handpicked for his spot) in terms of moving up from the midcard, developing his character and promos, and improving in every way.

I loved Miz stroking his briefcase diabolically during the Bourne vs. Sheamus match like Dr. Evil stroking his cat.

Sheamus really has stepped up too. I still don't care to watch him wrestle, per se, but adding a dimension of cowardice really helped him out. As a Destroyer Wrecking Machine, which he was last year, he wasn't as believable. But now he's got a bit of a yellow streak that coincides with his World Championship arrogance. Makes for a good heel.

Cena walking away from Nexus initially reminded me of Superman fleeing Metropolis in Superman II when he realized he was getting nowhere fighting the three Kryptonians. Cena has questionable choices of backups, but Khali and Bret at least give his Cenation Army some vulnerabilities so it's conceivable Nexus could beat them at Summerslam.

The Anonymous RAW GM has to send two emails, right? One for Cole to read but there has to be another sent to the production truck so they could cue up the music for Cole's "...THIS MAN!" (Nice touch to have Bourne "not ready" and still getting his gear on).

Good RAW. Well booked, built for Summerslam nicely.

Would have been nice to have Lawler on that team, but (smarky smark smark smark). I can settle for Bret Hart, though.

Actually, why settle for 7? Why not 12 or 13 on 7? Make sure you win! EVERYBODY needs a SummerSlam payday!

Great Raw!

Sheamus continues to impress both in the ring and on the stick.

So with Orton vs Sheamus and Club Cena vs. Nexus what else can Raw offer for Summerslam?

Miz vs Bourne? Miz is above the US belt so that might be a good way to elevate Bourne.

Kudos to Barrett for finishing the move and (if he was legit hurt) still delivering on the mic.

Only caught the last ten minutes but I was disapointed to see Khali on the team instead of Bourne. I wish Bret would stop getting in the ring. There's a lot of younger fans that never saw Bret wrestle in his prime and instead will see this version of Bret ''wrestle''. Hell you could have had The Hart Dynasty take the two spot and it would elevate them.

An excellent RAW, following a strong PPV. Bravo.

Interesting how the Miz kinda screwed himself over by knocking out Sheamus just as he was about to cash in the MITB. Which leads me to ask...why didn't he just roll Sheamus over and pin him?

Because the match never started. The bell never rang. A match can't begin if one of the participants is unconscious. The referee wouldn't ring the bell if Sheamus couldn't stand or wasn't conscious.

Per the announcers, the ref had to make sure Sheamus was conscious before he could ring the bell.

haven't they done this angle already? where the MITB champion knocks out the champ, but something happens before they can wake up and have the match started?

Jack Swagger teased cashing in his briefcase (twice actually, if I remember correctly) but eventually did not because a ref didn't get out there in time.

In the future, I would like to see them add a stipulation to the MITB deal that the challenger has to give the champ notice, maybe like an hour or something. Because this has just gotten repetitive.

That said, there is so much to like about where things are going now. Miz is awesome and seems to get more exciting every week. Sheamus I really enjoy, and I'm looking forward to seeing what they have in store regarding him and Nexus.

Dibiase and Maryse are great together, I hope they stick with this pairing for a while, it's by far the most interested I've ever been in either of them.

If I could nitpick just a little, I would have liked for them to address Jericho and Edge wanting to kill each other at the top of the show and then standing alongside one another at the end. I agree with Shapiro, I like angles where faces and heels have common enemies, but it only works when you mention that it's happening. Also, I agree with Shapiro that Bourne should be there over Khali. I mean, Khali? What the fuck?

Bret Hart was a nice surprise, but Wade Barrett acting terrified of Bret after we just saw him slam Mark Henry is kind of silly.

I dunno, I thought it was pretty self-explanatory. They were fighting amongst themselves, both said they were going to align with the Nexus ... and then the Nexus kicked the crap out of both of them. I don't think it was necessary to state the reasons behind it. The fans knew they both had been attacked.

Also you can see Edge giving Jericho a look when he comes out at the end there.

Really Bret's a good choice for Cena since he can pretty much call on 2 more (3 if Natalya wants in on it) whenever they're needed so they actually outnumber Nexus.

I loved Edge coming out by Cena's side. He gives this look like, "I can't believe I'm teaming up with John Cena." Khali makes zero sense, but whatever.

I'm all for Miz with the MITB, and I like the idea of him dropping the US title to Bourne as well. The SCF to Sheamus on the briefcase was awesome, but I'm glad he didn't cash it in. I kinda dislike how quick the MITB is being cashed in. When Edge first won the case, he didnt cash it in until New Year's Revolution in December. Miz could hold on to that case and milk it for a long long time if he wants to. Possibly the next WWE pre-Rumble champion?

There's just not a lot about Raw right now that I don't like. Sure, people like Jericho don't have much to do, but I tend to blame that more on the uneven roster with the SD transition to Syfy.

I think Khali makes sense because it gives someone for Nexus to wipe out prior to Summerslam and gain heat. He's the biggest and therefore (by WWE Logic) the biggest threat. They can gang up on him backstage, go 7-on-1, and while rest of the Cena Army is engaged in something else, take him out of the match at Summerslam. Then the E can replace him with someone else - Evan Bourne, a new signing, an old star returning, or Ricky Steamboat if he's properly recovered. Of course, the same can go with Hart, but it makes Nexus look a lot better and smarter if they take out their largest (potential) threat prior to the actual match. I honestly don't expect Khali to be competing at Summerslam.

Minor gripe, this match could've waited until the newly-resurrected Survivor Series.

What a great show. Everything just clicked.

The opener was fantastic! As was the Miz.

Summerslam doesn't look to good so far with Sheamus/Orton and (probably) Undertaker/Kane as the title matches, but I'm looking forward to that 7 on 7 tag match. And yes, I too hope that Khali will lose his spot to .... Daniel Bryan! :)
