Yeah, if it hadn't been the last wrestling show in the building I would've just skipped it for the playoff game, but I wanted to be there, especially when I heard they were going to do a commemorative shirt and video. I didn't see any shirts. I didn't get there until 10:00 so they may've done a video before the show started but I haven't read anything about it in other people's reports.

The great moments of the Civic Arena:
- Mick Foley Hell in a Cell
- Shawn Michaels/Razor Ramon ladder match
- Kurt Angle wins the WWF title after 9/11 and celebrates with his family and people are sort of into it
- Benoit, Malenko, Guerrero, and Saturn debut on Raw
- Edge cashes in Money in the Bank on Undertaker
- Cena/Orton iron man match; Smackdown defeats Raw to attain historic Bragging Rights
- Benoit/HHH iron man match
- Bret Hart says Pittsburgh is where you'd start the enema on the United States
- Kurt and Eric Angle play the switcheroo on Brock Lesnar
- Rock shows Kurt Angle's local pizza commercial
- debut of the Bella Twins
- Bruno Sammartino wins a match or whatever

He's a pretty big hunk. I missed Superstars tapings and whatnot, unfortunately, so the only real off-air things of note for me were
1) Cena and Batista had a dark match and then Cena cut a nice promo about closing out the building and the Penguins' game 7 on Wednesday.
2) Between his entrance, the commercial, and the next segment, Batista must have sat in that chair with the spotlight on him in the middle of the ring, unflinching, in deep thought, for more than five minutes while I WALK ALONE cycled through at least three times. It was amazing.

Happily in a relationship with a very smart independent woman, which is the point. The explanation Edge gave to Vicki wouldn't be believed by any woman and the fact that she even talked to the guy, much less try to help him out and want to be friends with him is an insult to intelligence.

Kevin Kelly: "Mr. Austin, would you like to comment on Wade Keller's Take that endorsing the XFL hurts your anti-authority character?"

Steve Austin: "Oh shit, he actually said that? I thought the boys in the back were ribbing me!"

Kelly: "No, he really said that. Did they tell you the part about you sitting in the stands, looking all skeptical?"

Austin: "AHAHAHAHAHAHA. Yeah... oh man that was too much."

Well, this was certainly a let down.

Hopefully they just wanted to save a bunch of stuff for the commercial free RAW next week but it seemed like they flipped on the "cruise control" switch when they discovered TNA wasn't going to be on this week.

Not much in the way of wrestling but, for what it's worth, the two Hart Dynasty matches were good albeit very short. Hopefully it leads to a pretty amazing PPV match.

I'm not expecting much of a match next week with Bret vs. Miz but the drama should be something else.

An interesting theory when you consider that outside of WrestleMania hype their usual programming strategy indicated that they didn't give a flying fuck whether TNA was opposite them or not. I think the only week that could have been considered "countering TNA" was when they advertised John Cena vs. Vince McMahon to counter Flair and Hogan wrestling on the first TNA Monday night in March.

Now that you mention it, does anyone know what the ratings were for the Star War prequel n TNA's old slot last night?

I know, I know.. I wasn't entirely serious with the remark when I wrote it. I guess I didn't really mean that the two things were related - I just found it funny that the week that things weren't head-to-head it seemed to be an off-night.

Shapiro, you are missing the night Kurt beat Booker T to win the WCW belt on Smackdown. Rock's commerical and the Radicals were the same night. I would have just skipped it if I got there at 10 pm, where you outside watching the Pens' game? Its not like they did anything special on this show anyway. Yes, WWE will be on cruise control now. If WWE didn't care about TNA then why put Bret on the same night? I expect the Star War ratings to be lower since there was playoff hockey and basketball while the networks were running new shows. Hell, I read the recaps and went to bed why watch Raw when you can just follow it online which after reading the first hour it looked terrible.

I started to reply to John-O to preemptively stop the Bret Hart talk, but deleted it. Oh well. (The date of Bret Hart's return was set internally before TNA's Monday night broadcast was.)

In addition to the whole "John Cena doesn't care about black people" thing, Randy Orton terrorizing Vickie Guerrero also made me feel very uncomfortable, especially considering that my mother and sister were in the room while I was watching RAW. And then they wanted to show a replay. My exact words: "I don't need to see it twice." *click*

Welcome home, men of the 2nd Bn, 127th Infantry, 32d "Red Arrow" Brigade, WI Army National Guard! Job well done in Iraq!

Wow...I consider myself a pretty big Meat Loaf mark, and had he not done a run-in on Raw last night (which is enough to make my head asplode), I would've had NO IDEA he had a new album coming out.

Damn shame Meat didn't get some of the title track from "Bat Out of Hell" as his entrance music. Seriously, folks, he's done more than "Paradise By the Dashboard Light"...

Still, pretty hilarious to see him out in that very ring (although the segment sure dragged.) Betcha Jim Steinman's jealous.

I have a friend who's a die-hard Meat Loaf fan, and he only knew a week ago. I wouldn't have known otherwise.

I haven't heard much of the new Meat Loaf album, but what I have heard... yikes. Not good.

I thought I remember reading his blog or something and he was a big Mick Foley fan? Maybe I'm entirely making this up?

Cena was banned from ringside which, one assumes, meant he was similarly banned from making any pre/post-match saves on pain of......whatever the standard threat is behind these bannings.

That was such a great match. That was also the night that I almost got run over by a rental car containing Taka, Funaki, Tajiri, and RVD, aka the new Kaientai. That was also ... my birthday. Damn, Mellon Arena, you can't leave me.

Well, I'd already paid for the ticket, and I didn't know that there would definitely be a Game 6 until just a couple days before so I didn't have time to pawn it off. Since it was the last show I figured what the heck. And since I got there so late, I didn't have to pay for parking. Watching the game on the screen outside and then going right in would've been ideal, but they didn't have a screen showing because Raw was there. It would've been cool if they had the screen up and a 1999 hardcore title match brawled out to it.

Can we all please stop using the term "mark" (and its variants) to describe our excitement over people, places and things not even remotely related to professional wrestling and/or sports entertainment? (Excluding this case.) You're a fan of Meat Loaf; there's nothing really "worked" about that.

In fact, can we just scrap using that term altogether? You don't "mark out" when watching a play, movie or anything else (at least, I'd hope) or the characters therein, do you? It just seems counter-intuitive to be shocked about being entertained by something that is, by its nature/definition, a form of entertainment. We're all fans of varying degrees.

Maybe that's just me...

Well, to me, there's just no better term for my reaction when, say, a band unexpectedly pulls out an obscure song I really like, or something like that. And, hey, the term really started with carnivals, didn't it?

The two dictionary.com definitions of "mark" that could apply to the wrestling definition are

    15.
    Slang.
    a. an object of derision, scorn, manipulation, or the like: He was an easy mark for criticism.
    b. the intended victim of a swindler, hustler, or the like: The cardsharps picked their marks from among the tourists on the cruise ship.

So yeah, the carnival type atmosphere that wrestling originated from. I suppose in the days of the hookers (The W at Amazon), it worked much the same as three card monte or a rigged carnival game like ring the bell or milk bottle toss.
