Probably the same guy who decided that when Carlito and Primo formed a tag team, their Titan Tron would say "The Colons".

Eh, I didn't find anything too extraordinary about Bret's promo. Seemed like the standard fare we're expected to get from him.

I personally loved Miz's wide-eyed "holy shit!" reaction after pinning HBK.

It was the night of awesome promos, but that's about it. Especially if you were hoping for lengthy matches. But then again, why would we ever expect that on Raw? When the promos are that good, I am fine with it.

The Lucky Charms bit was amusing I suppose, and that's about as edgy as WWE will get in the PG era (and saying "hell" a few times during the show).

They have dropped the ball so much with Swagger and MVP over the last 6 months, they must realize they had to give them such decisive victories to make them even seem like the slightest threat going into MITB. I would still be shocked to see either of them win.

PWInsider is reporting injuries from RAW:

http://www.pwinsider.com/ViewArticle.php?id=45551

Chavo needed stitches to cover a gash.

And more importantly, Gail Kim got hurt during the Divas Pajama Pillow Fights. See, they seem like fun and games but Pillow Fights are dangerous. Kids, don't try this at home.

I dont know why this made me laugh so hard but it did. They should definitely embrace kid friendly Cena. It feels like Cena's been stuck in this weird limbo of being in between edgy and PG. If they just started doing things akin with John Cena walking down the street with kids following behind him - you know, 80's Hogan stuff - I think that would work great.

That said, Cena-Batista was the highlight for me tonight. The return to phycho Shawn was a big plus as well. I thought the Hart-McMahon segment was a little flat, probably due to the lack of crowd heat. Hart took that crutch bump like a champ, so maybe they will actually wrestle a match..

Looking at the Hart incident replay, I couldnt help but think how cool it would have been if Vince was in the front of the ambulance, ala Steve Austin and just started pummeling Bret, although that might get Vince a face reaction..

I was DYING for Bret to show he was faking the leg injury after Vince agreed to the match. I mean, cocky Vince is OK but I GET IT. I could go with Bret getting the upper-hand for a week.

HHH and HBK were really great - I still don't believe for a second that the Undertaker is beating Shawn at WM, but they covered a lot of storyline-ground between the opening promo and the tag match. I also loved the Miz's reaction to pinning HBK - it's the little things like that which separate "entertaining" from "not entertaining" for me.

And let me say, Batista had me at "they're not here to protect *me*, they're here to protect *you*."

Great, awesome promos from Batista and HHH. Hell, Triple H even mentioned the 30-day rule, which hasn't come up in years.

Someone mentioned how weak the MITB field seems this year, and that could be a good thing. There's no obvious winner that sticks out and this year's match seems like it truly will elevate someone, rather than just serve as their official stamp into the upper card.

And ha ha, Psycho Penguin's signature. I was just slightly off-base with that prediction. That one is right up there with my pick of Seattle to make the Super Bowl last year.

Holy shit that was a lot of ads at PWInsider! I havent been there for awhile, have they gotten worse??

This quote made me laugh:
So she "either" hurt her foot "or" her back?? Only the online wrestling "media" can get away with posting a story that basically tells us "Either this thing happened or that other thing happened, we're not really sure". Awesome.

Weird to mention the 30 day rule though when Batista won't be defending the belt for over 30 days prior to Mania.

I am PUMPED for Mania this year. I never thought I would be excited for Cena/Tista, but MAN that was an epic promo.

Batista is now 2-0 against Cena (or 2-1 if you count the DQ), has broken his neck, owned him every week on the mic and in the ring...Cena has to get his heat back at some point right?

I know Dave is getting up there in years, but a clean win at Mania over Cena after this build would establish Batista for life. This new heel persona is perfect for him.

Sadly, Orton was in the middle of an amazing push last year, only to have it derailed into another "Cowardly Heel" scenario, leading to a Mania loss and then inexplicable win only one month later (seriously WHY wait until backlash for that?)

I could easily see the same thing happening with Batista here.

Edit: And I hope they prove me wrong.

I agree that should happen, but if you do it four weeks out from 'Mania, what's to stop cowardly heel Vince from backing out of the match again? That being said, even with a presumed fake leg injury, Bret needs to have a week or two where he has the upper hand. You can't humble him every week...that's part of why the reactions are getting flatter. This is essentially a retirement tour that he never got, and you're laying him out in front of every crowd that hasn't got to see him in ten years. And before someone says this audience doesn't know Bret, I remind you these same crowds chanted "you've still got it" to Ricky Steamboat, who is far less relevant to WWE history than Bret Hart (though clearly an NWA legend/staple).

Shitty night for match quality. I don't think a good competitive 15 minute bout would have done anything but shore up this show and make it stronger. I hate the pairing of Shomiz, they have no chemistry at all.

Batista may have just shot passed CM Punk as the best heel in the business, for my money. Effing great promo. He is King Douche, and I love it.

Orton getting cheered against Legacy is more or less a no-brainer. While it's true, crowds were hot for the younguns at one point, people just don't believe in them anymore. And I don't know if it's fixable, because it's not like they have the kind of charisma to easily overcome shoddy booking like say, a Jericho. To cast Orton as a face post-Legacy, however, would probably be a mistake

The guest host thing needs to be shelved, it really is beyond stupid at this point.

I was really underwhelmed by Taker's distraction. I was hoping for magic, or to see Jose Lothario hung upside down while Taker threatens to mutilate him with a sickle, or something. Just showing up on the screen was really lazy. In any event, it was pure angle progression and for what it was, great. Back to Smackdown for athletic, actual matches.

Perhaps part of this is Steamboat didn't cry for years about how he got screwed by the Honky Tonk Man for the I-C Title? In terms of how their respective lives/careers went after the 'screwjobs': Vince's skyrocketed, Bret's crashed, and the American public loves a winner.

This has nothing to do with anything. Since coming back, Bret has been repeatedly beaten down and humiliated. Instead of having him seeking retribution, he's come out and been quiet and humble and hasn't once shown any backbone.

Then finally a situation gets set up where Bret could conceivably get the upper hand on Vince, trick him into a match, *and* lay him out in the ring. Instead we get useless Bret humiliated again, splayed about in the ring. We've been given every reason to hate Vince, but we haven't been given reason one to cheer Bret. And that's how they're screwing this up, amongst other things.

Very likely, but I'm starting to think Jericho may go over Edge. Especially with an Extreme Rules rematch (ladder?) likely.

I feel like. probablt not.

The hardcore Wrestlemania weekend crowd chanted for Steamboat. I think they'll go just as nuts for Bret at Wrestlemania. And Bret was getting big reactions and "we want Bret" chants until the car crash thing sent this into WTFsville. If they do the big leg revelation before Wrestlemania, say in a contract signing where it gets locked in (it wouldn't make sense to reveal it otherwise since Vince could just cancel the match again) I think that will get a big reaction too. A lot of that is how good Vince is at reacting too.

I think I agree with both of this. They'll want a heel to win as part of the new surprise dictum, and the fact that they've only held the belts for a month. Cena did the clean job to Batista at SummerSlam. And Jericho's thing is to look like he's got no chance and then win.

I can't see any reason why Batista would win. So far, the build is "Cena can't beat him, Batista broke his neck, Batista stole his title, Batista is shit-talking Cena and the WWE fans, Batista is a giant douche." No chance ('cause that's what you've got) the ending isn't anything other than Cena beating Batista.

I'm not so sure there will ever be a big reveal that Hart is faking his leg injury. I think it's just as likely that they play the leg injury as legit. After all, they need a kayfabe excuse for why Bret can't wrestle up to his normal standards. I doubt they'd say "he's really old and had a stroke and is generally immobile" but they'd have no problem constantly referring to his recent leg full of broken bones and torn ligaments.

The whole time watching Cena-Batista I couldn't help but think how much Batista looked and acted like The Rock. A poor man's Rock, mind you, but still The Rock. Other people have already pointed out the outfit but I also kinda chuckled to myself when he said "what you think is irrelevant!" It was like a not-as-cool version of "it doesn't MATTER what you think!!"

I still think Jack Swagger is only two or three increments of lameness below Sheamus. I hope he goes nowhere in this company.
