I guess it's over for Kofi too already. He didn't get pinned, but he couldn't even beat Cody and Ted so at best he's going into a 50-50 program with them. All he did was actually get over.

I'm really hoping they get past Cena/Sheamus at the Rumble, but six weeks is not a very impressive amount of time to go undefeated, and they talked about Orton's renewed freedom to receive title shots so much that I kind of thought it might be Sheamus vs. Kofi vs. Orton at the Rumble.

Bryan Alvarez: "They played it up like [Miller] was shooting (...) so Vince walks off."
Dave Meltzer: "So there you go! Wrestlemania!"
Bryan Alvarez: "It could be."
Dave Meltzer: "Yeah."
Bryan Alvarez (surprised that Dave doesn't sound like he's joking): "In the ring?"

If Undertaker/Michaels II is a possibility for Mania, that opens the door for Cena/Batista in the other main event....maybe a world title unification match?

Or, if WWE wanted to push someone else, it would be a great heel move for the Royal Rumble winner to want to face Taker for the world title, thus screwing the fans out of seeing the big rematch.

I do not want to see Bret Hart wrestle.

Also, I think they're five or six years too late for an appearance by Hart to really mean all that much. How many people watching today know anything about Montreal? The number can only go down as more and more time passes. It was more than 12 years ago.

Maybe I just didn't hear it well enough, but the mention of Hart's name last night didn't seem to draw much of a reaction from the crowd. More than, say, Isaac Yankem's name might have, but still meager enough to make me think an appearance by Hart would not be worth while. In wrestling, 12 years is a really, really long time.

That didn't stop Shawn Michaels from inserting himself into the match last time it happened.

Whatever plans they have for Wrestlemania will change 7 more times between now and No Way Out. There will be 3 other wrestlers teased to be feuding with Undertaker, and in the end one of the 3, Michaels, or Cena will wrestle him and lose. The days of the Survivor Series/Royal Rumble meetings paying off exactly as planned (Goldberg & Lesnar, HBK & Angle, etc.) are over.

You give a bunch of two minute shit matches with a lot of boring fluff and you wonder why everyone is sitting on their hands? I know the defense can be that he was staying in the Mr McMahon character, but it didn't really sound like it. I actually stopped watching after this segment and never went back. Fuck Vince.

If TNA had half a brain and wasn't trying to be WWE Lite they might be able to snag wrestling fans like me. The wrestling world really needs that an ECW to shake these guys up right now, and it wouldn't even just have to be hardcore. Just give me some realistic characters, a few believable story lines and some actual wrestling matches and I'll be happy at this point.

Mainstream wrestling in America is just the dribbling shits right now.

(keeping the quotes because Dave's reaction was hilarious.)

Dave did say he thought Bret was going to host 01/04. Which may lead to something at WrestleMania.

There's ROH on HDNet! Jim Cornette signed a series of matches to determine the Top 6 Contenders to the ROH title! Those matches have all been really long and full of wrestling andzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz nah I'm just playing, they've been pretty okay so far.

That Austin Aries sure is a smug bastard!

Bret would have to mention The Hart Dynasty right? Maybe make a title shot to boost that team's profile? Too bad Smith is a boulder in the ring; Kidd is flying around, doing his best to make them interesting. Same thing with JTG in Cryme Tyme.

Anyway, unless Bret can work the mic and the crowd well, I don't want to see him in an angle. But one more chance for the WWE fans to show him some love is fine by me. But any one hosting the Jan. 4 show is gonna get smothered by the Fiesta Bowl. I don't know why TNA thinks they can make any, um, impact by going against the WWE AND a college bowl game.

Then, clearly the answer is to pair up JTG and Kidd to form High Energy 2.

I did!!! I'm getting that vibe more and more. I just wish that Cena had a female second so Sheamus could ask her to come back to his place to find out what a real man is like. Now, if we're going Rocky III with this feud, Edge needs to come help Cena train. I can't wait for the awkward man-hug.

Edge and Cena running on the beach in tank tops, short workout shorts and knee high socks and then triumphantly hugging in the surf would be the definitive moment that would scar the WWE Universe for life.

Go for it!

Yeah, he said it in a "I've connected the dots and have concluded that he'll be the Jan. 4 host" way, not "I have inside knowledge and people have told me that will be the plan" way.

Maria winning Diva of the Year was awesome, and goes to show that most of the WWE Universe doesn't even want to see women wrestling. Maria only wins based on being the most attractive diva in the WWE (at least with the majority--myself included).

I thought Miller was pretty great last night, and it was the crowd that didn't "get it."

Overall though, this Raw seemed like an experiment to see if WWE can out-TNA TNA. Comedy skits and promos and no real room for wrestling. If this is what January 4'th is shaping up to be, I won't watch even if Bret is the Guest Host...oh ok, I'll still watch.

It's not just that she's hot. Maria is still popular because she's one of the only Divas who actually has a personality. A lot of people liked her original ditzy backstage interviewer character, and she had that 2007 run with Santino Marella that was really good. She was one of the reasons Santino got over as a comedy character. Maria hasn't been given a whole lot to do since being moved to Smackdown. Her fling with Ziggler had potential but it was torpedoed. Bottom line is, people don't forget you if you actually entertained them. Maria has done that. Not with her wrestling, but just from having a defined character.

But he won the '93 King of the Ring there!

..

Yeah, that's probably not quite enough.

I enjoyed the three-man commentary team, mostly because it seemed to somewhat pull Cole and Lawler out of the perpetual rut they're in by forcing them to answer some of Striker's insightful questions. Interestingly, it seemed to me that Cole and Lawler even seemed uncomfortable by Striker doing that at times, but that could have simply been them playing the characters. I liked Striker's, "you have some history with Mark Henry, King" line, which never would have come up in a million years if Striker wasn't there. On the flip side, though, sometimes the bickering tended to focus the attention on the announcers and their characters as opposed to the wrestlers and storylines; one thing I loved about the Ventura/Gorilla team is that their endless bickering never detracted from the in-ring action and still served to put wrestlers and angles over, and I don't think today's announcers know how to pull that off.
