Zeruel, do you mean Punk cashing in on Cena at that point as a heel turn?
Yeah. The week of the draft was the only week where I have watched every main WWE show in about 2.5 years, so I don't know how things have gone down before, but that crowd was almost anti-Cena like the crowd I was in at SummerSlam 2005.
And I was REALLY starting to get into that Cena/Jericho match until Edge ruined it. Yeah, they have to build to a PPV, but still, they were trading finsihers and it seemed like they were building to a really nice finish. Pity...

To be fair, the whole show they talked about this being the "final" week that the brands were co-mingling. Now if we see any SD guys next week on Raw, then your point about the draft is valid.
I think, with them being overseas and all, they also wanted to load up on as much starpower as possible on both RAW and Smackdown this week, for both the trip reason and also to hype Backlash.
Maybe the better question is with RAW and SmackDown building up to Backlash and being on a foreign tour, what was the point of doing the draft last week? Did US demand that last week's show be the three hour one? If WWE isn't going to pay attention to the draft until next week, why else didn't they just wait until then to do it?
My guess is that they knew that Backlash wasn't going to do big numbers, so they thought that keeping the WM format (guys on all the shows) might help keep the buyrate above 100,000 domestic buys. Plus the space between WM and Backlash is so short, they didn't have time to build up brand-specific feuds.

This is the only well of of the few problems that happen when you only have 3 weeks betwwen PPV's the whole card is rematches. I think in the eventually they need to cut backlash because does any one even care about any of the matches? the only match that looks intresting is The Steamboat Y2j match and that is only getting less then a week of tv time
Backlahs is just fine, and has developed into one of the better monthlies. You usually get a quality match or two due to the high Wm rematch quota. And that's not a problem - it's good sense to milk the WM matches while they're fresh.
I take issue with people saying Jericho/Steamboat only has "a week's" build - surely they've been building to this since Jericho first decked him?

But the WM matches were not fresh. Wasn't that one fo the biggest complaints leading up to the show?

It's not Backlash that needs to go, it's One Night Stand/Extreme Rules. Backlash would be happening one or two weeks later if they weren't trying to spread out three more in the next two months.

The first PPV after WM *should be* occurring immediately afterwards. If I remember correctly, Backlash always does very good buyrates (relative to everything else). And that’s due just as much to the timing as it is to anything else. If you’re netting 700-900K buys for WM, then you should try to retain as many of those customers as possible. One way to do that is by not giving them time to think about buying the next PPV. The event isn’t meant to feature new feuds per se. It’s a transition show that features maybe more colorful rematches from WM with a few pieces moved around. If WM was hot, then Backlash will be too. It makes only good business sense to do it immediately after WM.
