TONIGHT: Oh God- it’s a two-on-one match as Ted Dibiase and Cody Rhodes take on Triple H. I hope I’m not going to be banging my head against the wall after that one. Big Show and Edge sign their contract for Wrestlemania tonight, but what does John Cena have up his sleeve? Maryse meets Melina in a battle of Women Champions, and a spot in the Money-In-The-Bank Ladder Match at WM is up for grabs when Chris Jericho faces Kofi Kingston.

-WWE Open.

-Last Monday, Randy Orton and HHH went face-to-face with Orton finally making the decision to face The Game at Wrestlemania. They added in this past week’s Smackdown action between the two to the video package as well.

-The camera was outside the Randy Orton home in St. Louis, Missouri. He’ll join the show live via satellite to discuss his actions as of late.

-Meanwhile, Orton’s WM opponent is in action against both Ted Dibiase and Cody Rhodes later tonight.

-In the arena, Shawn Michaels came out. Michaels talked about sending Undertaker a message this past week on Smackdown, a video package filled with his most memorable Wrestlemania moments. Shawn said he respects Undertaker, but he doesn’t fear him. Shawn said streaks are meant to be broke and nothing lasts forever. He stated the obvious, saying something’s gotta give at ‘Mania. The Undertaker’s bell tolled to interrupt Shawn. Then we got a package of him putting away each opponent in the streak. A pretty good one too. Back live, while HBK’s attention was turned to the Titan-Tron and the lights were dimmed, Taker stood on the other side of the ring.

Without looking behind him, Shawn said hello to Taker then turned around and said he had been expecting him. Taker said Shawn’s arrogance has clouded his judgment. Taker said he respects Shawn too, but he’s faced many a man he’s respected, and they’ve all fallen. Shawn, he said, will be no different. Michaels got angry, and said he shouldn’t have to qualify to compete against anyone at Wrestlemania. Good point. Michaels went over his accolades and said he’s still the Showstopper. Taker said Shawn has had epic victories and bitter defeats at ‘Mania. The dream he has of beating ‘Taker is just a dream. Undertaker threatened Michaels with physical harm and talked about taking his soul. The Dead Man called himself the most dangerous entity to step foot in the ring and promised Michaels that he’d find that out. Taker stumbled over his words here and did so once before in this promo. He’s not gonna be happy about that. Michaels interrupted Taker and said while Undertaker has beaten all of his Wrestlemania opponents, he’s never beaten him; and he never will. Shawn walked to the back to his music as the lights turned back on. Neither man was at his best here but the substance of the promos was good.

-What did John Cena whisper to Vickie Guerrero on Smackdown this past week? Well, they don’t say we’ll find out later.....I guess they just want us to speculate.

[Commercial Break]

-They advertised the WWE Hall of Fame special on USA Network.

(1) JBL vs. CM Punk- Intercontinental Championship Match
I would’ve preferred this match with the build-up that was shown on the Raw script that leaked online this week, rather than get thrown out with not even a mention. Michael Cole did mention that JBL had been lobbying for this match for some time. Crowd got behind Punk early in the contest. JBL was quite aggressive early on, causing him to jiggle all over the ring. Yeesh. Punk went after JBL’s legs then sent the former Acolyte to the outside. They went to a commercial two minutes in.

[Commercial Break]

Back from break, JBL had Punk in an abdominal stretch. Fallaway slam by JBL followed that. One, two, hegothimnohedidn’t. Short-arm clothesline got two. Bearhug, but Punk fought out immediately. Tornado DDT by Punk turned the tide, though he didn’t have enough in the tank to make a cover. Finally he did, but he took too long and couldn’t get three. Punk with the martial arts strikes then a springboard clothesline (no “I’m flying!” this time). Bulldog out of the corner for two. The crowd knew what Punk was going to do next. JBL raked the eyes to get out and hit the Clothesline from Hell for three.

Winner: JBL, at 9:32. Well, it’s nice that the I.C belt will be defended at Wrestlemania, but it’s a shame Punk had to lose it.

-Another look at the palatial estate of Randy Orton. They went inside and showed Orton sitting and chatting with presumably his wife. The interview is next.

[Commercial Break]

-AC/DC’s album “Black Ice” is in stories now. Their song “War Machine” is one of Wrestlemania’s theme songs.

-Backstage, JBL and Vickie were meeting. Apparently, JBL owes her something after she put him in a title match. He was hesitant at first, then agreed. No word on what it was. Edge came in and shooed JBL away, demanding from Vickie to know what Cena whispered in her ear on Smackdown. “It doesn’t matter” she screeched, but Edge said all that matters is his contract against Big Show is signed tonight.

-Randy Orton and his wife Samantha joined the show from his home in St. Louis. Randy introduced her to the viewing audience before questioning began. She is....quite attractive. Cole asked Orton why he violated the stipulations from Raw last week on Smackdown. Orton asked Cole to show the footage of what happened on Smackdown (as if Cole has control over that). Nevertheless, the footage was shown. Orton said he showed restraint and could’ve kicked HHH in the head or RKO, but he didn’t. Randy said he was proud he had the self-control necessary to allow him to take his rightful place at Wrestlemania. Orton said Triple H was so prideful, he’d even show up at Raw tonight. Well, he does have a match. Orton said every time Trips shows up, he’s going to take some more out of him, but will leave just enough to take the belt from him at WM. Cole said he’d like to ask Orton some more questions throughout the show. Orton said he wasn’t going anywhere. Pretty good explanation from Orton as to why he didn’t finish the job on Triple H on Smackdown. I’m wondering how the wife will fit into things....will HHH try to go after her as revenge for what Orton did to Steph?

-Up next, for the first time ever on Raw, the WWE Women’s Champion Melina takes on the WWE Divas Champion Maryse.

[Commercial Break]

-The camera panned ringside, where Smackdown and Raw divas were on opposite sides of the ring, apparently in support of their show’s representative.

(2) Maryse vs. Melina
I hate how Cole pronounces her name as “Maurice.” Melina immediately got sent to the outside where the Smackdown Divas rolled her back in. Maryse slammed Melnia’s face against the mat. Maryse bent Melina every which way, until Melina came back with a chop and kick. Hair pull sent Maryse to the mat, but not the way they had planned I’m sure. Double-knee to the gut of Maryse in a unique move. Melina missed a corner charge and Maryse slammed her back-first into the mat. That was enough to get the pin.

Winner: Maryse, at 2:15. Good thing they’re not saving this for ‘Mania, as the match stunk.

The ladies from both brands faced off in the ring. Rosa was the first to make a move, then everyone went at it. Mickie, in a dress, was at quite the disadvantage. The faces of both brands were the ones who stood tall in the end, including Kelly Kelly in her hometown.

-A video package of the aborted contract signing from Smackdown aired.

-Next is the contract signing, take two, officiated by Vickie Guerrero.

[Commercial Break]

-A video package on Wrestlemania VI from 1990 aired. Mary Tyler Moore in the front row?!?!

-Vickie Guerrero was introduced. She was in the ring with all the usual contract signing furniture. She had a special announcement and said there will be a 25-Diva Battle Royal featuring Divas from Raw, Smackdown and ECW and past Divas. The winner will be crowned the first-ever Miss Wrestlemania. Back to business- she brought out Big Show first, then Edge. Edge said he was in attendance for Wrestlemania VI and said he saw Ultimate Warrior take on Hulk Hogan. Edge said he knew Show was better than the Warrior and that he was far better than Hulk Hogan. Lotsa boos for that one. Remember when Edge and Hogan were tag champs? Edge said he and Show are the top two superstars in WWE today. He wanted to put the past in the past and wanted to create history at Wrestlemania. Big Show said he agreed with Edge 100%. They both signed the contracts and shook hands. Just then, John Cena’s music hit, which caused Edge to scurry and hide behind his wife.

He came to the ring as Edge asked him what he was doing there. Edge said it was official now that Cena isn’t in the match. Cena asked Vickie “you didn’t tell him?” Cena asked if he should tell him. Edge wanted he and Show to dispose of Cena but before they could, Vickie said she invited Cena out. She said it was only fair to the audience to allow Cena to compete for the title at ‘Mania. Show got mad and said who cares what the audience thinks. Cena said it’s time they knew the truth as Vickie begged him not to say anything. Cena said he interrupted the contract signing on Smackdown because he had to tell Vickie something, a piece of information that she needed to hear. Cena said he told Vickie that he loves her. Mixed reaction for that one as Edge had a dumbfounded look on his face. Cena said he can’t control who he falls in love with and said he knows Vickie has feelings for him too or else she wouldn’t have let him put his name on the contract. He said his heart wants the title and Vickie Guerrero. Cena said he’d see Edge and Big Show at Wrestlemania.

Cena headed up the ramp but Edge got on the mic and said Cena didn’t really love Vickie, he’s just playing on her emotional state to get into the title match. Edge said Vickie is going to tear up the contract. Cena told Edge that she wasn’t going to do that. Edge demanded she rip it up. Cena then said he couldn’t do it anymore and said that Edge was right- he doesn’t love Vickie. Cena gave the real truth and said he told Vickie that Raw was in his hometown last week and he had friends in Boston at the arena. One of them runs the security cameras and they showed Big Show and Vickie talking in her office last week, then making out. Cena told Vickie that she has some ‘splaining to do. Edge fumed in the ring while Show winced and Vickie tried not to make eye-contact with anyone. Edge demanded Vickie look him in the face. She couldn’t and was in tears. Edge felt the gravity of the situation and collapsed into one of the chairs while Cena’s music played. I could’ve done without Cena’s alleged love for Vickie and it does make him seem heelish for revealing what was said even after Vickie let him into the match. Other than that, it was OK. I would think Cena would be trying to be more serious and getting into WM mode though.

[Commercial Break]

(3) Chris Jericho vs. Kofi Kingston- Money-In-The-Bank Qualifying Match

Jerry Lawler called Jericho’s actions toward those who came before him “disgusting.” High dropkick by Jericho was part of Kofi’s offense, as well as a ten-corner punch with his crotch in Jericho’s face. He didn’t get to ten as Jericho came out of the corner with a powerbomb. They went to break just over a minute in.

[Commercial Break]

Jericho had Kofi grounded as the show returned. Kofi made his comeback as they continue to ignore Kennedy winning the briefcase and not winning the title. Side Russian leg sweep by Kingston, who by this time was all fired up. Jericho took him down when Kingston tried to go for his high legdrop. His leg strength allowed him to counter the Walls. Enziguiri by Jericho for two. Face-buster on Kofi. Lionsault missed and Kofi did hit his legdrop for a near-fall. Kingston got a kick blocked as Jericho locked in a Boston Crab that I guess was supposed to be the Walls. All of a sudden, Ric Flair’s music hit and he came out onto the stage as Kofi grabbed the bottom rope. That distracted Jericho enough for Kofi to hit his buzzsaw kick for the win.

Winner: Kingston, at 7:48. Fine match, predictable result.

Kofi celebrated with Flair on the ramp. Tomorrow night on ECW, there will be a Battle Royal to determine a MITB qualifier, and the final one will be on Smackdown.

-They went back to Orton live via satellite and Cole asked Orton why he wasn’t at the arena. He couldn’t even get the question out before Orton retorted that he didn’t like what Cole was implying. Orton said he may not be able to control himself if he was in the same arena as HHH. He again said he’s showing restraint, the only reason he’s not at the arena. He said he’d enjoy watching Triple H in action tonight. Needed more shots of his wife.

-Coming up tonight, a two-on-one handicap match will see Ted Dibiase and Cody Rhodes face Triple H.

[Commercial Break]

-A stewing Chris Jericho was backstage with Todd Grisham. He said Flair took away his Wrestlemania moment. He said he wants his WM moment next week. He dared Flair to come out of retirement to face him next week on Raw. He said he knows Flair has been waiting for that invitation since last year. Jericho asked Flair to step into the spotlight one more time. Y2J said just like Mickey Rourke’s character’s story in the wrestler, Flair’s story will end next week on Raw. How are they alike again?

-They showed a video package of the next Class of 2009 Hall-of-Famer: “The Birdman” Koko B. Ware. And I’m sure, just like during his in-ring days, he’ll be jerking the curtain at the Hall of Fame ceremony. He’ll be inducted by The Honky Tonk Man.

-A six-man tag is next. Rey Mysterio, Finlay and Christian all made their entrances. They’ll take on Kane, The Miz and John Morrison after the break.

[Commercial Break]

(4) Rey Mysterio & Finlay & Christian vs. The Miz & John Morrison & Kane
Spinning heel kick for Christian on The Miz. Reverse DDT for two. Distraction by Morrison led to Miz tagging Kane in. Kane grabbed Christian and tossed him into the corner. Cole said Christian would be in the battle royal tomorrow night on Sci-Fi. Another tag and Miz came back in. More quick tags and this is starting to look like an Impact match. Rey out-quicked Morrison, then hit a hurricanrana on Morison off the top. Miz broke up the count. After a lot of high flying that my fingers couldn’t keep up with, Rey hit a hurricanrana and held on to Morrison’s legs for the win.

Winners: Finlay, Rey and Christian, at 3:53. I’m thinking they were running long for this kind of six-man to be so short.

-Ted Dibiase and Cody Rhodes were walking backstage, heading to the ring to take on The Game.

[Commercial Break]

-Next week, The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels team up to take on JBL and Vladimir Kozlov in Shawn’s hometown of San Antonio.

-We got an in-depth look at the bad guy of the film “12 Rounds.”

-Cody Rhodes and Ted Dibiase came out for their match. Triple H was introduced and his music played, but he didn’t come out. So Lillian tried again, I guess thinking that somehow HHH didn’t hear it or something. Still nothing. The heels started arguing with the ref, so the ref talked to Lillian and she announced Rhodes & Dibiase the winners due to forfeit. They went to the feed of Orton, who was steaming mad that Rhodes and Dibiase were smiling. Orton said he gave HHH too much credit and he said Trips probably won’t show up to ‘Mania. He started ranting about putting Triple H in the hospital when someone knocked on the door. He told Samantha, his wife, to open it and continued his diatribe. Orton realized who would be at the door and tried to stop her, but it was too late. Triple H took his sledgehammer, smashing it through the door as Samantha screamed. Orton ran as Triple H went after him. Trips skulked around the house but all he could find were stage-hands. He finally made his way to Orton’s wife, who was sitting on the floor. He screamed at her, asking where Orton was, but she didn’t reply. Some lady went screaming out of the laundry room as HHH kicked his way in there. He found the stairs and peered up them. The Game slowly made his way to the second floor of the house, but heard something down below and came back down. Orton charged out from under the stairs as the two started brawling in the living room, tearing the place apart in the process. Triple H got the best of Orton, throwing him through a window and to the outside of the home. Police sirens started ringing and the cops came down the street as HHH continued pounding away on Orton. He told the police that Trips broke into his house and attacked him as HHH was led away in handcuffs. Orton ordered that he be arrested and just as Trips was about to be put in the car, Orton tried to ambush him. He was held back by authorities as they hauled The Game away.

Shouldn't Randy be arrested too for hitting a cop? Well at least that is what it looked like to me. Anyway nice house. Randy's girl looks like she has a eating disorder.

Do we have enough time to give the World title to The Undertaker and the WWE Championship to Shawn Michaels?

Not only did my Vickie-Show shipping finally come to fruition, but that might have been the greatest collection of faces at the end with Cena mugging for the camera while Edge, Show, and Vickie didn't even bother trying not to laugh. It could've used Foley showing up with Socko and some baloons, but I'll take what I can get.

Edit: Also, Scorpio blows away Koko.

Ok, so I don't claim to know a lot about pro wrestling pre-Wrestlemania. Is there some real explanation why Koko B. Ware is getting into the HoF this year? Is there some reason why some like Honky, who deserves to be in there, is inducting Koko? I mean, really? Wasn't Koko the very definition of Jobber to the Stars? Is it his singing voice? I just don't get it. Really? Koko? Hall of Famer Koko B. Ware? That's like putting a career .200 hitter in Cooperstown.

Haas should have been used as a decoy for the main event. Either that or Goldust gets out his fake nose from his Owen Hart match in late '97.
First thought on hearing Koko B. Ware being placed in the Hall of Fame: Someone realized that they were inducting Steamboat and a whole bunch of rednecks, had to even it out somehow. Have to wonder if S.D.(Special Delivery)Jones would have been the choice if he had stayed alive. Next year, Mo from Men on a Mission.
I guess they are moving closer and closer to Lawler having his 1st Mania match.

oh man Randy lives with his mom. NERD

You guys must be so bonered out that there's going to be an Intercontinental Title match on Wrestlemania. Now you'll buy the show for show. Probably against Rey by process of elimination chamber. I think JBL's big WM moment is going to be him retiring again, after losing to Rey again no less. In fact it looks like Rey and Evan Bourne will both have Championship Opportunities if you get my message.

Koko should be inducted by Bill Dundee (and show clips of the scaffold match from Memphis) or whomever was his partnerin the PYTs.

Edit: Norvell Austin.

Actually, he should be inducted by Morris Day, so he can perform THE BIRD live on TV.

I say Hall of Famer Jimmy Valiant as reimbursement for the (literal) TV Title he cost Koko early in Koko's career.

He is curtain jerking the HOF. Honky Tonk Man could be third from the top in a future year. Really I don't know how they get through the next five years of ceremonies without some really quick turnarounds.

26 - Savage & Warrior, the Ultimate Maniacs, the HOF you thought you'd never see
27 - Duane "The Rock" Johnson (ten year anniversary of X7)
28 - Michaels (two years after he retires), semi-main is Nash
30 - Foley (MSG)
31 - Undertaker
32 - Triple H
33 - Kurt Angle & Sting (WM back in Orlando)

After that, there isn't anybody who's gonna sell out a Hall of Fame ceremony. I mean they can always do Vince, natch, but what fun would that be.

They just gotta have Shelton drop the US strap to R-Truth to set up the four-way US title match with Truth, Umaga, Chavo and Helms. Then they'll buy the show.

Laugh out loud moment was Orton telling Samantha to get the door and continue his promo. "No! WAIT!"

Vince Russo was pleasuring himself mightily during that closing angle.

Between Smackdown and tonight, Undertaker hasn't said this much in years. I wish he deviated from character a little and busted out some of the old American Bad Ass colloquialisms. "Foolish talk and crazy brave" would have been great. "Soupbone". Too much to ask, I guess. Is everyone sold on HBK vs. UT yet? If no, you're hopeless.

I felt like all the good stuff was front loaded in the first hour. After the episode of Three's Company starring Cena, Edge, Vickie and Show, it flatlined except for Flair coming out.

If by "dating" you mean he banged her and dropped her. That's not out of the realm of normal athlete activity. ;-)

Kirk, crackers are a family food. Happy families. Maybe single people eat crackers, we don't know. Frankly, we don't want to know. It's a market we can do without.

What was the point of the no-touch clause? They've been violating it left and right ever since it was put into place. Now it would be one thing if the heel was making use of some loophole to get at the face week in and week out, but they've got the face doing it too! Kinda defeats the whole purpose, doesn't it?

As far as Hall of Famer Koko is concerned, I gotta buy into the Redneck-Overdose theory someone has floated along. That sounds about right.

Is it just me, or do Edge and Show have some wacky kind of promo chemistry?

That's like putting a career .200 hitter in Cooperstown.

That's pretty much exactly how I thought. I was absolutely shocked when I heard this. I'm still trying to figure out what the heck they were thinking on this choice.

The best part of waking up is not Folgers in your cup, but knowing that Chuck Norris didn't kill you in your sleep.

Koko made Vince a lot of money as a jobber, and was quite over with the crowd.

- That was the most fun I've had watching a contract signing, maybe ever. I would have been okay with Cena really loving Vickie and dueling for her love in an Ultimate heel turn. Edge's facial expressions really put the skit over the top. The acting gap between him and Orton is pretty huge.

- Jericho's 'Save Me' on the back of his tights looked pretty gay.

Well, to be fair the SSDI won't count him as dead until he is legally declared dead if there is no death certificate. http://en.wikipedia.
