This was the first RAW that I've felt the need to comment on, so much that I couldn't wait for the play by play report to surface first. If there ever was an episode of RAW written by the writers from Arrested Development, it had to be this one. First, the Idol segment and its prelude were pure fucking gold. AND they remembered the "professional" singers on the roster. I want to go buy any sort of Santino Marella merchandise they make post haste because there is not another superstar that gets me as jazzed as this kid. Who knew they had Cookie Monster in Italy, from whence he was plucked. Even Cody Rhodes stole his finisher! Boogeyman v 4.0 singing Harry Chapin possibly made my life, and that wasn't even part of Idol. Hall and Oates! Wham! Plus, what I think were Teddy Hart and Estrada sightings were the icing on the cake. Put this show on NBC Thursdays now!

Oh, and the main event was pretty good too.

Man Stephanie looked great tonight with that skirt. I fell out my chair when I saw Michael Cole tonight. On the down side they should have brought Triple H to do the run in tonight. Did you hear those New York Boos? Didn't triple H make his return in New York last time?

Boogeyman absolutely slayed me.

Idol wasn't as good as last week, but it wasn't the disappointment it should have been, so that's great. Santino is magnificent.

Umaga's hot tag was possibly the best I've seen in a long time. So well-booked: Umaga staring at Cena after the tag (and clearly considering hitting him) until Orton strikes first; the blocked double-whip; Carlito coming up empty on the Backstabber. My only problem with the match was the timing of the ad break; I wanted to see what was going to happen with Cena and Umaga alone.

King Booker absolutely OWNED this show. The beatdown on Lawler, telling JR "YOU BEST SHUT UP!" or else he'll "BREAK YOU OFF, TOO, PUNK!", and then taunting JR and the crowd to "SAY SOMETHIN'! SAY SOMETHIN'!" So, so awesome. Book's really been in fire these last few weeks. Too bad HHH is gonna come a-squashin'.

Loved the ME tag match. I like Cena, but I've missed the 50/50 crowds w/ the dueling chants, so it was nice to see/hear them again tonight.

Outside of these, the show was just "there". Raw Dating Game last week was pretty damn fun, but tonight's Raw Idol just seemed forced & not as good. I guess they saw how well Dating Game came off, and are going to run the premise into the ground.

"SAY SOMETHIN'!"

Opening segment was fine, and necessary to advance the Vince/child storyline. I liked his stare-off with Kennedy....Kennedy/Sandman was all kinds of awkward, as Sandman certainly looks like he should be bar-brawling somewhere instead of wrestling inside a ring....I didn't get the Flair appearance in Vince's backstage segment....Seeing Cole and JBL dressed like Hall and Oates was worth the price of admission....Cryme Tyme/Cade & Murdoch had good heat, and the match wasn't bad (at least when the heels were on offense)....

I bet Snitsky faces the Highlanders 2-on-1 next week....Something about the Boogeyman looked different this week....WWE Idol wasn't as good as the Dating Game, but it was still pretty entertaining. Regal wasn't nearly as snarky as I was hoping, and I thought we'd get a token black guy to play the role of Randy Jackson....Rhodes/Haas was okay, a bit too much resting....The main event was good, helped out by the crowd. I didn't see the psychology in the hot tag that hansen did, as it seemed kind of awkward to me. That and the crowd wasn't fully ready to accept Umaga as a babyface.

So if Ken Kennedy is the bastard child as many have predicted, will the hook be that he took Vince's middle name as his last name to keep some small connection?

I think so....in fact, I think Keller said that it was Paul Heyman's suggestion that Kennedy go from "Anderson" to "Kennedy" because he'll get on Vince's good side, what with Vince being so proud of his middle name. It may end up paying off after all.

Well I was there tonight, from the start and it was actually a tape delay as the show started at 6:45.

The only dark match featured D-Lo Brown against I think Brian O'Reilly from Boston (which immediately made him a heel in NYC). D-Lo got a huge pop for his finisher (Lo-Down right?).

The crowd was hot before anything even started and any IMAGE of Cena was instantly booed. It wasn't until the building filled in completely that the back and forth chants started and continued pretty much all night.

Triple H was cheered, not booed, anytime he was shown on the tron or mentioned.

Orton got a huge pop just because he was Cena's opponent. The crowd was split right down the middle with the guys booing and the women and kids cheering. There were even a couple of "Randy Orton" chants throughout his match on RAW and during the SNME taping.

Lashley's surgury footage was also booed.

Count me in the Santino fan club a swell.

I have full SNME spoilers, including Mr. McMahons child, but I'm not sure of CRZ's rules regarding spoilers.

Your firsthand account would be okay with me...just be sure to keep at least the thread title spoiler-free and give everybody a chance to not click on the thread.

JR needs to calm his ass down. Lawler started that whole ass beating from King Booker by not following the simple rules and crowning him the true king. Then he went and stomped the crown ... he had every bit of that coming.

At least they are keeping Umaga strong. Hopefully it's for more than having Helmsley cut him down.

... and I'm not a fan of the game show segments, because it leads to more cute campy stuff down the road. Although, I will give Santino credit for being very good at what he does, if it weren't for him these things would probably bomb.

Having Fink do the introduction for the Soviet National Anthem displayed that they really miss him doing the introductions for matches.
They picked the wrong game show to do. Should have gone with the Gong Show, in which Foley could have been Chuck Barris, Regal could have banged the Gong like Jamie Farr, and Kamala could have stole the show doing his Gene Gene the Dancing Machine impression. Also, if you are going to do Idol on a wrestling show, there is only one place to go: Bring out the Idol of Millions Austin Idol.
Was I the only one hoping for the old MSG Mic to fall from the sky and wipe out 2 McMahon's in 1 shot?

RAW mostly rocked for me. I did fast forward past some undesirables like Snitsky and Cryme Time, but what I stayed to see was pretty damn entertaining. And the hot MSG crowd helped make the show.

Stephanie looked great. Listening to her, not so great. Although I did crack up at Vince's "It's all about the mon-ay!" Kennedy being Vince's bastard, if that's who it will turn out to be, is currently the worst kept secret in wrestling. I liked the staredown tease between Vince and Kennedy.

WWE Idol was pretty awesome. It's amazing how much younger William Regal looks now with his poofy pompador than he did just a few years ago. And I like that as GM he's mainly concerned with putting on game shows. He really got into the angry Simon Cowell role.

The SOVIET NATIONAL ANTHEM made me happier than I could have imagined.

As usual, Santino ruled my Monday night. "Time Square is missing, how you say, a filthy prostitute!" "Are you going to rhyme again like on Sesame Street? Looka at me, I'm the Cookie Monster!" "Maria, come with me righta now. I take you to Little Italy. I know a little place." I even like the little rat tail he's growing. I'd love to see a 30 second squash with Ron Simmons spinebusting Santino, which I hope we'll get.

Main Event was great. Ever since JR called Randy Orton a slithering snake a few weeks ago, I've been taking note of his body movements, which are very slithery. Orton even cut a damned good big money promo without stumbling over his words. I loved how Orton was slumped in the corner selling Umaga's ass ram like he was dead. And Carlito trying the backstabber and failing.

Two good weeks in a row. More please.

I also enjoyed this week's RAW. Nikolai Volkof has a surprisingly good singing voice. And I'm not normally a fan of the Boogyman, but him singing "Cat's in the Cradle" was gold. I think that Vince/Kennedy staredown was a total swerve, and they've got someone else in mind now. I'm hoping they go with Nature Boy Ric Flair McMahon.

I did not look at any spoilers and this is just my guess, but there is no way Kennedy can be Vince's child as it is just too obvious.

My choice? CM Punk. With the CM standing for Christopher McMahon. It makes perfect sense and it is a solid face to go against McMahon and when that is dry, a heel turn for Punk to align himself with Vince and join the family.

Also, it gives Punk a solid rub and most likely, a move from ECW to RAW, which is sorely needed for character development.

Punk vs. the McMahons? I like it. And a match eventually against Shane would be fine with me.

Which would make sense... if Vince had a thing for the ladies in nursery school.

No, no, no. I agree that Punk needs to move to RAW or SD eventually, but now is the most wrong time to do so. The last thing ECW needs right now is to lose another big name.

It's a good idea but it needs to be someone else.

While the switch from Cena to RVD should alleviate some complaints, the inevitability of the belt's return to Cena (note where Summerslam is this year) and the poor initial showing by the new ECW are enough to keep the indicator where it is for now. The pieces are in place, though, especially on RAW, for improvements to be made to the IWC's psyche in the near future.

Your fantasy booking hurts my eyes.

Going by the past two weeks' worth of RAW threads, I'm starting to be concerned that I'm the only person to think that these game show segments have no place on my wrestling show. Am I getting all old and workrate-oriented? Are the ratings totally disagreeing with me?

Well, usually I would agree, but usually the non-wrestling segments aren't nearly as good as these have been. Plus, they've been effective at getting Santino over and developing his character at a time when his arm means he can't wrestle.
