His reaction has nothing to do with his wrestling or he would've been over when he debuted as a underdog face. There's a good reason that all of Santino's matches since September have averaged 1:04, because his wrestling sucks so bad they want him in the ring as little as possible.
I thought he "sucks so bad" was because he has the "fan plucked out of the audience" character and isn't a wrestler per-se which is why his move set is so small.
Now, I haven't watched more than two Raws in the last year, so if they've changed his character, I don't know about it.

Hopefully Regal will be able to restore some credibility to the IC belt and make it worth something again. His promo was a good start towards that.
Anyone who thought that Batista/Orton match would happen, or last longer than a minute before a non-finish was fooling themselves.
PLEASEPLEASEPLEASE let this be the end of Rey/Kane. And also Jericho/Michaels. It was great but it's time to move on. And could we get a move on with this Orton/Priceless storyline?

At some point during his face run, they explained that Santino was training as a wrestler in Italy, and came to America to try his luck at making it in the big leagues. Or something like that. | rv581

| #25 Posted on 12.11.08 1426.50 | Instant Rating: 7.40 | Santino was an OK wrestler when he was allowed to work a match. His initial WWE style was a shoot/MMA-tinged style, down to the short shorts. TINGED is the magic word. His kicks and knees were good, but he wasn't throwing around any CM Punk moves. He started using the "salute" headbutt, and he won a match with that from the top rope. But that was after he turned heel.
He wasn't horrible, and he could at least hang together for a decent first-hour TV match. He was OK. He clearly had some ring experience; he wasn't a total rookie. But since he's become this comedy figure, he isn't doing anything in the ring. Kelly f'ing Kelly is showing more offense than him.
If he's going to be given so little ring time, I say keep him as a manager for Beth.

Rey/Kane I agree.
But Jericho/Michaels should feud on and off all the way through for another year. Cycle it on and off. But keep coming back to this the way the NWA would do with Flair/Sting or Flair/Luger. If they aren't doing HBK/Taker at WM25 they should do Jericho v. Michaels and let Jericho get his win back from a few WM back.

What sucked though is the match really should've been longer with more build to really pop the crowd. I think the crowd was still a bit behind Santino before the match was even over. Don't get me wrong, the Brits love their Regal and it was a nice reaction but I think it could've been so much more. Regal's speech afterwards was so great because every wrestling fan fully expects him to do some heelish comments after a setup like that but he kept it nice.
In addition, I find the Santino hate interesting since all my non-wrestling fans find his act to be the highlight of RAW... Deuce, Snitsky and unfortunately D'lo are just randomly thrown at him with no build-up at all. nor has he had a solid feud since getting the title unless you count the two week stint against Batista. So his matches are usually against random challengers and are a minute long. You can't really show out with that kinda weekly standard. Who can really have a great 30 second match? | Spaceman Spiff

I don't mind comedy. Jamie Noble has done a bunch of good/great comedy bits over the last year. I just don't find Santino to be funny.

It's just that Santino, his character, and his funny-ness have nothing to do with the IC title. His act can go on for weeks without the IC title. I predict he's gonna poke his nose a lot more in Beth's business and somehow going to be involved with the return of Gail Kim.
On the other hand, giving Regal the IC belt can really help with bringing some relevance back to that title. There's a ready feud with Jamie Noble, and Regal-Noble can really go in the ring. Nothing brings prestige back to a title like two guys willing to go tooth-and-nail to gain it.

| #31 Posted on 13.11.08 0004.25 | Instant Rating: 7.24 | I feel like we're getting into "push the cruiserweights!" territory with the IC belt; it pretty much means nothing and unless there's a drastic change of philosophy, that's how its going to be no matter who holds it. Santino didn't bring down the prestige, Regal isn't going to raise it: It is what it is.
The only advantage to having Santino hold it was you knew he was going to be on TV every week (because Brian Gewirtz loves writing comedy), making the belt seem slightly more important in that way. I don't see Regal being on every week.
