I'm thinking Carlito's a'turnin' next week. I suspected it this week when he arrived halfway through the match, but then he pounced on the ref. He's getting shafted by the Bischoff/Jericho RAWgime, and he has nothing to do on his own since he's not defending the belt against Shelton anymore. Also, he hasn't spoken much lately. I'd like to see RVD pop out to add a match to SS, but I haven't heard about his health lately.

Edge is almost winning me over. Almost. I'm still rooting for Matt because, as Edge correctly said, this is the closest he's gotten to a main event.

Cena's video got booed because it was terrible, but I must say I did enjoy seeing his parents' huge house and estate-sized piece of bucolic property. He's a man of the people! From tha streetz!

Seriously, if you grew up there and wanted hip-hop legitimacy, would you show that in your video? Mad propz to Cena for representin', I guess.

Jericho sounded good in his video, which tells me one thing: major post-production. He sounds awful live.

Dear Mr Copeland;
Please spit your gum out before promos. It makes your 'rage' a bit more believable if you dont have to keep trying to keep it from flying out of your mouth.

Nice recap eke

Edge's promo was very very good, but I'd like to see him cut a promo like that in the ring - the pretaped backstage vignette too much of a crutch for him and I don't think he needs it, although keeping Lita in the background for some post-promo smooching might have forced them into keeping them both backstage.

HBK was again awesome, and I'm glad they replayed the Larry King parody, brother brother brother oh brother. I'm going out on a limb to predict that Hogan puts over HBK this time, perhaps through Bret interference (allowing a Bret to return to address a full crowd on the following Raw to say he's forgiven Shawn, and then to hype his DVD). My other thought would be interference by HHH against Hogan - saying he respected HBK enough as his best opponent ever to not want to see him lie down for a guy who stunk around 20 years too long - HHH needs to get in the PPV payday somehow, why not in the main event?

Masters is a hundred times better on the mic than Shelton, but Shelton is only fifty times better in the ring than Masters.

Raw missed Big Show more than it missed Chavo, sorry, Kerwin.

I get the sense that the anti-Eugene chants were more a result of him facing Angle than the crowd not liking his character or his work. Maybe that and the fact that he lost a ton of entertainment value when Regal was replaced with Christy.

Nice way to make the WWE title seem unimportant, as is taking a 3rd seat behind Edge/Hardy and HBK/Hogan, and is focused around the musical talent of the performers. The videos both were okay, not horrible, but not enough to make me a rap lite fan either.

No disrespect to Jericho/Cena from me, and I think this may turn out to be the best match on the card as both Hardy and Hogan need to be carried in the ring, although Angle/Eugene has some promise. I won't count the Smackdown side although Rey/Eddie always delivers, Orton/Taker will be fun, and JBL blades well.

I agree that Carlito is starting to remind me of the Rock - he is a natural on the mic and his selling makes his opponents' offence look better than it is against others.

Divacrap was mercifully short, but not short enough, this week. The good news is that its nearer to the end, the bad news is we are that much closer to the next round of whoresearch...

I, too, was distracted when they had him on super-close-up. I felt myself being drawn to the gum as he talked and watching for its ejection from his piehole.

Chalk me up as another one who was baffled that they let Kurt play it up as a face for so long. That was extremely sloppy of them, and I was surprised that Kurt didn’t do anything sooner to discourage the fans from cheering him.

Edge’s promo: as has been said, awesome. More than any other match on the card, I want to see what these two deliver when they get in the ring at Summerslam. Plus, their experience with TLC gives them experience with stealing the show at Summerslams.

Who, exactly, did Shelton piss off?

Next week’s handicap match had better end as a non-match, with Cena getting his ass handed to him. You’ve got both the Number One Contender and the Intercontinental Champion there. They’ve done about as little as possible to make Jericho look like he has a chance. He hasn’t even had a match in the last month! So if his team loses next week, they’re basically coming out and saying, “Yeah, Cena’s better than both of these guys combined, let alone Jericho by himself.”

It looks like they finally realized that Michaels was coming off as the face in his feud. Hogan did as good a job as possible, and invoking the name of Bret Hart was a great way of reminding the fans that HBK is hardly a saint. I disagree with the poster who suggested that Bret would come out and help Shawn win the match. Shawn’s the heel here. If Bret comes out and helps him, that makes him a heel, too. If anything, I can see him come out and waffle Shawn with a chair to help Hogan win the match.

I thought for sure that Carlito was going to be the one that Bischoff blamed for screwing up last week's main event. But we get Chad Patton instead.

I'm hoping that's the direction they take...it sets up a nice double turn with Carlito getting to be the charismatic face/tweener and Benjamin taking a disgruntled heel turn. He could still use his excellent ring skills, but a heel is better suited to having someone as his mouthpiece...we can only hope.

As for the Angle/Eugene match...I think Kurt was eating it up! Wouldn't you? He then threw in the obligatory "idiot fans" comment, but that didn't even derail it. And was it just me or was Hogan getting as many jeers as cheers when he rescued Eugene?

Nick Dinsmore is great, but the Eugene character has run it's course. It's time to pull the swerve and let Dinsmore move on. And Angle needs to get out of this feud, as he's above comedy (although WWE never seems to understand that).

Okay, I love Edge. Seriously, he has been cutting some KICK ASS promos lately. WWE needs to push this guy to the WWE Title, because his heel character is the best thing going in WWE.

Matt Hardy's return is an unadvertised match. A boring match with Gene Snitsky, at that. How great.

God bless Shawn Michaels for taking the greatest bump off of the big boot in the history of the big boot. I seriously believe now that Shawn and Hulk will have a great match at SummerSlam. YAY SHAWN~!

Too many Sunday Night Heat quality matches tonight.

Why the hell is Shelton jobbing to Masters?

Mark my words: In three weeks, Rob Conway is gonna' be super over, and it's going to be strictly due to his theme music.

Very blah RAW this week.

I was also quite taken aback when they showed his house.....looked almost like a house from the "Stepford Wives" movie. Don't see what he was really thinking with him pointing it out in his video.

As for the video, I didn't really care that much for the song, but I still enjoyed watching the video. It was one of those videos that just made you kinda go "aaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwww".

I’ll disagree with you on Angle. He’s one of the few who can effortlessly work the comedy into his character and still come off as a legitimate threat later. It’s no different from Austin, Foley or Rock. He just switches into another gear.

Stuff like going after Sharmell? Yeah, he’s above that. But his status as a proud Olympic Gold Medalist just means he’s a sap with dignity. And that’s always funny.

Great recap ekedolphin -and Im a Hogan fan =P-

Only thing I had to disagree with you on is the releasing of Shelton so he can do what he must elsewhere like on TNA- Im sure as soon as this Masters thing finishes flushing all the way down the toilet, Shelton will have plenty of room to continue doing what he does so well- being my favorite new performer on WWE programming.

-Yeah, you probably said it just out of emotion, but whatever- I had to make that point.

I really wanna download that Fake Larry King Live promo so I can watch it whenever, funniest thing on WWE in a long time.

Hogan v. HBK will be good, and extremely interesting in its outcome too- cant wait for that.

EDIT: To belows post; Well said, Samophlange.

Just because Cena's music of choice is hip hop doesn't mean he has to come from a ghetto in the inner city or anything. It's not as if he raps about drugs, shootouts, and cops. He's never claimed to be such a person or to have such a background. Cena has always just claimed to be 'real' and this video did pretty well to show that he is indeed being 'real' and not trying to portray himself with a ghetto-thug gimmick. He's just a regular dude who is into hip hop music and style.

I know its been a while since the last post here, but after seeing Raw again (thank goodness for VCRs) and watching the new Cena music video three times, the I think the song is good. I really enjoyed the video, too.

Wish I could have said the same thing about the entire show, though.

You know, I think I enjoyed raw more thinking back to it after reading the thread than I did actually watching it. Tough to say, I should try watching it sober sometime.

Angle/Eugene will be the undercard match of the night at SS, as long as they let it. Give it more than 5 minutes, and don't make it a comedy fest. Don't forget that, by all accounts, Nick Dinsmore is an excellent technical wrestler. comedy spots are ok, but give us some meat. I want to see Eugene using Angle's own style against him, but in a serious fashion.

Not like I'm a huge show fan, but they definitely could have let Paul come out to do SOMETHING instead of the vic/hearthrobs vs stacy/oh-yeah-they're-the-champs. Does anybody remember when Show/Lesnar were destroying rings with superplexes and having forklift matches? What happened to that Big Show? Is he hurt or did he and Shelton play a bad practical joke on someone with the last name McMahon? Maybe he's working an undertaker style "3 weeks on, 3 weeks off" schedule?

I like Masters, I like him a lot. He has the potential to be a wonderfully amusing heel (although probably not a ME one). That being said, Shelton is by far the wrong guy to try to use to put him over. Shelton's credibility with the average fan is probably on unsteady ground, as most fans aren't thinking "this is the guy that beat trips twice last year". WWE fans are totally a "what have you done for us lately" sort of crowd. Poor Shelton, I don't know what to say to him other than "Well, look what Chris Benoit did... see ya with the belt and the confetti at wrestlemania in about 16 or 17 more years?"

Edge can act? Well, overact maybe, but still pretty good stuff. Lita is incredibly lucky that she's a cheating slut, or else there really wouldn't be anything for her to do on raw, at all. As it is, her standing next to edge and not saying anything is her best work in awhile. Why is she still around? Even the teenybopper fans aren't cheering her anymore. Does she still sell merch?

Do not let Viscera on my RAW any more. Please. Say he's got a broken knee. Put him on Heat. I don't care. Just send him away. A huge menacing fat man threatening to rape someone in the ass (a guy dressed like a village person with theme music sung with a lisp no less this week!) is not what I want to see. I swear WWE, just because I tune in each week to watch men in tights hug each other does NOT mean that I'm gay. As I've said before, in reference to the divasearch I believe, if I wanted porn, I know where to find it... be it gay or straight porn. Retire big vis and his phallus of anal doom.

I HATED the Matt/Snitsky match. It started exactly right, and then went into the garbage. If there is one thing that the WWE should have learned from the career of Shawn Michaels, it's that a small/medium sized guy with a lot of heart CAN wallop the bejuzes of out a larger man. Matt started off with great offense and then it just went into standard "I'm big so I'm going to win" mode. Snitsky exists ONLY to job, so who cares if he gets squashed. Show me a hard squash job of Snitsky and I'll be a bit more excited about him facing Edge, who had a legit point about his main-event stripes.

Heel HBK is the best mic that the WWE has right now. Face HBK was pretty good on his better days, but heel HBK is priceless.

That being said...

HBK is going to lose to Hogan. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. It may not be clean but it WILL happen. Not in the least because I don't want it to, and WWE hardly ever does what I want in big match situations (last time I recall was SS 2002 with Brock beating rock). This is, or should be, Hogan's last real match (the man is falling apart), while HBK will be around for awhile yet. They just won't let him lose in such a situation. Look at it this way, Hogan is still being booked as a bigger legend than HBK.. and in all reality, he probably is. HBK getting a clean win in this match would, most likely, finally boost him to equal status with hogan, or even surpass him. Why would hogan EVER agree to such an outcome? If this were just a high-profile match featuring an active-competitor hogan (say, circa 2003), I can see him doing it and maybe getting the win back further down the line (like was supposed to happen with Brock). However in this one-time, "one last match" (funny they stopped mentioning that though), "icon vs legend", style match... I can't see him purposely letting, nay HELPING, someone else reach/surpass his level.

That's my rant.

Oh, I gave this raw a 6.5/10. I guess I'm just getting let down from where RAW was 3-4 weeks ago.
