-Ill be in South Carolina for my cousins wedding/a vacation for about nine days, so no recap next week.

-Ah! Im late! I picked up when Vince was dialing the number for the $200,000. Perfect timing, I guess. Did Vince just get Rickrolled?! I already love this Raw. And again! Finally he got through and Daniel something-or-other won the $200,000. He didnt sound very excited. As expected, the live crowd wasnt very patient with it (after all, THEY werent winning the money).

-Shawn Michaels is on the Highlight Reel tonight!

[Break]

-Oakland Raiders are in attendance (and yes, in the front row) for tonights Raw.

(2) Mickie James vs. Beth Phoenix
Right after this match, Million Dollar Mania will continue. Im assuming this is non-title. Beth just pushes Mickie away amid a flurry of punches. Looked like a spinning DDT by Mickie, but Beth sold it as a move done to Mickie. Okay. Slingshot suplex by Beth. The two ladies trade punches (and forearms). We got some overly choreographed spots that led to Mickie getting a near-fall. Thesz press from the top rope and that got the three.

Winner: Mickie, at 2:32. I dont know if I like that result.

After the match, Melina attacked Beth with some out-of-control offense, and left Beth lying in the ring. Who did Beth piss off?

-Immediately after, Vince made his next call. Dustin won $75,000. Next up, a surprise guest will join Vince. Is it Donald Trump?

[Break (apparently, Kennedy beat Burchill in the first match)]

-John Cena and Triple H were face-to-face backstage. Imagine how many face-to-face encounters like that happen that the camera doesnt catch! Trips said he was the best and Cena questioned if hed still be champ in three weeks. Trips turned the question around and said well see....if Cena makes it there.

-Vinces special guest to give the money away....Charlie Haas. Are they making this intentionally bad? Haas is mask-less for those scoring at home. Vince dialed but got nothing, not even a dial-tone. Nothing again, but the third time, he gets a busy signal. Gabe from ePrize brought Vince another number, and the fans were predictably not so fond of this. This is just embarrassing. He finally got it to ring. Donna Rose answered and got the password right (though she was breaking up a bit). She got $50,000. If Charlie kisses a diva, shell got $100,000. Maria came out and Charlie kissed her. Make that $100,000. Well, Vince just upped the offer on kissing another diva. Of course, it was Mae Young. The Hall-of-Famer came out and planted a big, presumably wet one, on Haas. And didnt let go. I feel like this is a shot at Jackie Gayda somehow. Im probably wrong though. Oh, and Ron Simmons came out to say Damn!

-Backstage, JBL said we may not deserve the money, but John Cena deserves everything hes about to get. JBL vs. Cena is next.

[Break]

-WWE Did you know: WWE broadcasts live in 130 countries and in 23 languages.

-Triple H was out to do guest commentary.

(3) JBL vs. John Cena
Triple H said we wont see anything from Cena tonight that he hasnt seen before. Does that mean, we WILL see something new? A distraction by Triple H led to JBL using it to his advantage. After JBL got two minutes of offense in, Cena got JBL up on his shoulders for the FU, but JBL escaped and went to the outside. He had a stare-down with Triple H as the show went to break.

[Break]

Cena and JBL were fighting at ringside upon return. You know, I just cant get enough of kissing Triple Hs ass on commentary. Sleeper on Cena in the ring. Just what this match needed. Another big boot by JBL put Cena down after he powered out of the rest-hold. Cena came back after dodging the Lariat from Hell. He hit his pet moves, but JBL raked the face to get out of the FU. Lariat from Hell connected. Cena got the foot on the ropes during the three-count. JBL went to ringside and took off the cover of the announce table. He went back into the ring to retrieve Cena, but John caught him in a small package for the pin.

Winner: Cena, at 10:08. I think that constitutes something not seen before from Cena. So JBL is 0-for-3 now against John?

Cena stood on the announce table to confront Triple H, but during their stare-down, Trips tripped Cena and the former champ landed back-first on the table. Quite heelish for Triple H this week.

-Up next, Jerichos Highlight Reel will feature the Heartbreak Kid.

[Break]

-Jerry Lawler and JR plugged The Incredible Hulk preview after Raw tonight.

-Vince was out and he said he wanted to shake things up. He asked Lillian Garcia to stand up. Vince said there was a rumor that Lillian was bragging to JR about her measurements earlier....he added up what she said her measurements were and it was 98. So $98,000 was what he was giving away. Is he giving away more than he promised because of how much this has stunk? Stephanie answered and she sounded more excited than anyone who has answered yet. She gave the correct password and won.

-Jericho came out for the Highlight Reel. Jericho said it may seem that HBK has been on the Highlight Reel a lot lately, and he has. Its because Jericho said Michaels was a hero of his when he was younger, and now hes proud to call him a friend. I think were missing a chapter in this angle, but Im guessing thats how they purposely wrote it, to keep us guessing on Jerichos intentions. Michaels came out and Jericho said he put on a gutsy performance at One Night Stand.

HBK asked if there was a question in any of this. Jericho said the fans love him no matter what, then brought up the lies HBK told lately. Michaels said technically, he only lied to Y2J. Jericho made a point that when he pointed out HBKs lies, the fans hated him, despite being superkicked by Michaels (and the fans loved that too). Y2J started an HBK chant to show that it doesnt take much to start that chant. Y2J wanted to know how Michaels turned into such a lying, cheating, pathetic human being. Jericho then attacked Michaels before he could answer. Michaels started to come back, but Y2J gave him a low-blow. Jericho then threw Michaels into the obscenely expensive JeriTron 3000, breaking the glass. Pretty good segment to get that feud going down another path.

[Break]

-We saw clips of what just happened. JR speculated that Shawn may be concussed.

(4) Umaga & Snitsky vs. Cody Rhodes & Hardcore Holly
The announcers brought up the tension in the Holly/Rhodes team as of late. Double suplex on Snitsky right off the bat. Umaga came in and went on offense against he former Sparky Plugg. Snitsky missed a legdrop, and Holly went right for the knee. Both men made tags and Rhodes tried to knock down the tree that is Umaga. Cody jumped right into Umagas arm, resulting in what JR called a reverse sidewalk slam. It was like a swinging Rock Bottom that swung so much that Cody landed on his face. Thumb to the throat by Umaga, and thats it.

Winners: Umaga & Snitsky, at 3:04.

Hardcore helped Cody up. Ted Dibiase, Jr. came out with a mic in hand. He noted that since he announced a title match with a partner of his choosing against the champs at Night of Champions, the champs have been on a losing streak. He said thered be new World Tag Champs in two weeks....then said that moment would be simply priceless.

-The main event, still to come, is Triple H vs. Jeff Hardy.

-Mr. McMahons Million Dollar Mania continues next.

[Break]

-A video on WWEs contributions to the Make-A-Wish Foundation aired.

-Vince announced that Trevor and Jillian would have a sing-off, then hell give away some more money. He got the crowd to clap their hands and then sang. Jillian had to stop him, as it was so bad she was embarrassed for him. Is Trevor from the future? His new cape or whatever that is makes him look like it. Jillian was even worse, so Vince stopped her. Vince called another number. Another woman. She got the password right....but Vince only gave her $2. Thats the loudest the crowd has popped for any of these segments thus far.

Vince said hed give away some more right now. Gabe came back out with another number, this time, for $200,000. Josh Smith was next....he got the password right after it sounded like he got cut off the first time. I think he swore, because he said Oh, my..... and it blanked the last word out.

[Break]

(5) Santino Marella & Carlito vs. Cryme Tyme
Highlights of Cousin Sal vs. Santino from Smackdown aired. Quick roll-up by Santino for one. A bit of chain wrestling from JTG and Santino. Nice double-team wheelbarrow-like move from Cryme Tyme for two. Carlito and Santino went on the offense, including a Camel Clutch from Santino. JTG and Marella then punched each other at the same time. Powerslam by Shad, but Carlito interrupted the pin attempt. Carlito go low-bridged by JTG and Shad slammed Marella into the mat for three.

Winners: Cryme Tyme, at 3:23.

-Vince called Cryme Tyme up to the stage to give away some money. Vince said at the end of the main event, hed give away a quarter of a million dollars. Right now, $51,998 will be given away. Vince said if the guy didnt know the password, hed give the money to Cryme Tyme. The tag team and Vince sang the Money, money, yeah yeah song.

-Jeff Hardy was walking backstage...hes in action against Triple H next. Thats two money-drawing PPV main events with Hardy theyve given away in consecutive weeks.

[Break]

-John Cena came out to do commentary for the main event.

(6) Jeff Hardy vs. Triple H
Back-and-forth action to start, with Hardy getting the first cover. Corner dropkick by Hardy. Trips blocked the Twist of Fate and hit a AA Spinebuster. High knee by Trips for two. Abdominal stretch followed. He grabbed the ropes for leverage, a message to Cena that hell do whatever it takes to win. Hard Irish whip into the corner sent Hardy face-first to the canvas. Right hand by Triple H and he has slowed the pace down significantly. He kept looking over to Cena after every move. Clothesline sent Hardy over the top rope. Hardy ran at Trips on the outside, but Triple H hip-tossed him into Cena. Hardy got thrown back in by Triple H, and with the refs back turned, Cena pulled Trips off the apron, allowing Hardy to get the win via count-out.

Winner: Hardy, at 8:23. Hardy was strictly a role player here. And as I write that, Hardy came over the top rope and landed on both Cena and Triple H, who were having another face-to-face confrontation.

-Vince will give away $250,000...next? But its 11:05!

[Break]

-Another DYK, something about Raw being the most watched regularly-scheduled cable show or something. I cant type that fast!

-Vince came out to his No Chance music. He thanked everyone in Oakland for showing up, then thanked everyone for tuning in, even thanking USA Network. Vince said hed give away another $1 million next week. Vince dialed for the $250,000 prize. My phone STILL aint ringing. Steve answered and got the password right.

-So whats the over/under on how long this gimmick lasts?

Next week will be the last of it unless the ratings take a major gain. I get the feeling that it dropped off a lot after the first 15 minutes once everyone got the password.

The 2 dollar gimmick sucked & everyone knew it was coming, that is anyone who either reads internet wrestling news sites or the fine print of the contest rules.

Seriously, it's killing the heat from the crowd and it's going to get old real quick, having to cut matches for this stuff.

Well, the wrestling was pretty good. Hardy taking out Cena and HHH was cool. Jericho finnaly turning heel was great.
But boy does the phone dialing skits suck. Vince seemed old with his phone problems.

The password is supposed to be put on the website, so if they call, you can look it up there.

Hopefully, they visited the website shortly after 6PM when they posted the password!

Take the phone segments out of the way and we're left with...well, some GOOD but not great matches, some GOOD but not great "entertainment" segments, and...thankfully not a whole lotta bullshit (although the "Did you know?" stuff really screams "Please judge our broad appeal to advertisers" and came off a little extra-pandery....not that giving away money isn't just another form of pandering), but I'm not sure that this would be enough to draw in people who may have returned or were new to watching the show.

Those people in the Bay Area, they're all Samoan. I think that's what JR was trying to convey to me.

I could never figure out if he was dialing a 1 or an outside line code or what. It always seemed like he was dialing too many digits (but since I never heard 6-1-2 I kinda lost interest halfway through every phone number)

So will they pay royalties on the incidental Rick Astley or not? And once or twice?

I figured the password would have changed throughout the night. Oh well. My phone didn't ring but if it would have, I would have been MUCH more excited than the stiffs that actually won. Dude, you just won $200k! Speak up!

GAWD I hate Mickey James' look right now. The artist who cranked up Maria's makeup gun to whore must have got ahold of Mickey's too. I miss her original skirts & psycho look from the Trish Stratus feuds.

I think the rickroll pretty much proves these people know in advance that they are going to be called. If Vince had a second caller he would have gone to him. Still, pretty ballsy on that guy's part. It seems every time mainstream media tries to use the internet for any kind of poll or contest it always blows up hilariously in their faces.

Edit: Sorry, I was watching the replay and only had seen the first call. Wow that was terrible. I don't care how many secretaries you have, how can a grown man not operate a telephone properly? You could actually hear the ratings drop. This was a bigger waste of money than Mayweather.

After all these years, someone FINALLY got tossed into the Jeritron! That was a terrific segment, if more than a little out of place on what was otherwise a lighthearted show. I spent the next few minutes thinking "I guess they'll have to build up Jericho-HBK for the Draft show or for the Bash since Night of Champions is title matches only"...and then I remembered that Jericho is the IC champion. Geez Chris, at least wear the belt out to the ring.

John Cena's commentary was horrible. He couldn't have been more vanilla. I thought this guy had personality...is he totally a creation of the writing staff?

How is it that I am a good actor? What I do is I... pretend to be the person Im portraying. Youre confused. Case in point: in Lord of the Rings, Peter Jackson comes to me and says I would like you to be Gandalf the Wizard, and I said You are aware that I am not really a wizard? and Peter Jackson said I would like you to use your acting skills to portray a wizard for the duration of the show. So I said Okay and then I said to myself Mmm.. How do I do that? And this is what I did: I imagined that I was a wizard, and then I pretended, and acted, in that way on the stage. How did I know what to say? The words were written down for me in a script. How did I know where to stand? People told me where to stand." -- Sir Ian McKellen, Extras

And a tidbit that may send indie fans into a bit of a frenzy...

"American Dragon" Bryan Danielson submitted Lance Cade to the Cattle Mutilation in a dark match before the show.

Weird.

This post came up on the random quote generator right underneath it. Thought that was funny.

As for Raw, other than Vince getting rickrolled those phone segments sucked mightily, and why doesn't Vince know how to work a phone? Show was so bad I left early enough to miss the HBK-Jericho segment. I'm sure it'll be on youtube by tomorrow.

Didn't Jericho say he was going to defend the title every week starting last week? If it was a heel move not to do, you'd think they would've brought it up.

I can't accept Ted DiBiase Jr. as his father's son until he grows some sort of facial hair.

Obviously Jericho's long-simmering heel turn was the Highlight of the Night...and now we know what it looks like when you smash in an HD TV!

Nothing in the lame, pandering money giveaway gimmick can or will top the Accidental RickRoll...

I don't know, I didn't watch because of the phone segments. I didn't sign up thought either. After seeing the first one then coming back later and seeing another I just didn't care. I did catch the Highlight Reel bit, and that was pretty good. I think they oversold the Jeritron shot though.

Jericho is now the best type of heel, the type that is actually correct. Would have preferred a Marty Jannetty, Though Art Avenged comment as he threw Michaels into the obscenely expensive Jerichotron 3000 though.
Nice to see that they are trying to keep the exciting Bradshaw strong.
Beth Phoenix jobs clean in a non-title match and then gets punked out by Melina? Sounds like something that happens right before 30 days gets announced.
At least have a giant bin for Vince to reach in to grab the phone numbers that can get spun around a few times to make it exciting. You knew Mae Young was coming out a some point with Charlie Haas.

The obscenely expensive heel turn was the "highlight" of the night. The bad puns write themselves.

But really, I now have a reason to watch Raw, or at least fast forward to the HBK-Y2J segments.
