TONIGHT: Not much in the way of a RAW preview from the .com, other than JBL will be speaking about his actions last week. We’ll probably get another hall-of-famer announced, as well as a Money In The Bank qualifying match.

-WWE Open.

-In the flashback to last week, we don’t get the Hornswoggle beating OR the Floyd/Show interaction....instead, they show highlights of the Cena vs. Orton match.

-We join things already underway, and the red carpet is down in the ring. William Regal is holding court, with Triple H, Randy Orton and John Cena in the ring. Regal has arranged for this photo-op for....did he say “prosperity”? They’ll each make comments on the match as well. Lots of boos for Cena. Cena has a problem with Triple H, and he’s going to address him. Surprisingly, he didn’t appreciate Trips’ pedigree last week. Trips said Cena better get used to it, because he’s going to get the same thing at WrestleMania. Cena brought up the fact that Triple H tapped out to HIM in their previous big clash. Orton interjected, saying they can talk all they want, but in the end, he’ll still be WWE Champion. The challengers are finally sick of Orton’s mouth, and they attack him. He gets ent out of the ring and the REAL main eventers go at it inside. That is, until Orton recovered and hit RKO’s on Trips and Cena. Does that mean next week (or later this week) Cena FU’s both?

[Break]

-Mr. Kennedy came up to Orton backstage and said he was going to be in the MITB match at WrestleMania. He gave Orton a bit of a warning in case Randy wins at WM. They went nose-to-nose and glared at each other.

(1) Santino Marella & Carlito vs. Cody Rhodes & Hardcore Holly
It’s Cody and Santino to start things. Rhodes dominates and lands a beal out of the corner. Rhodes ended up going off the ropes and knocking Carlito to the outside. A frustrated Carlito tagged in and pounded away. Carlito’s anger seemed to dissipate, as he settled into a chinlock....not a move I’d guess you’d pull out in a fit of rage. Marella back in, he did a lot of jawing that got him nowhere but down on the mat following a Russian leg-sweep. Both men made tags and Hardcore was a house of fire. Jerry Lawler spent most of the match trying to get Maria’s attention at ringside, finally throwing his crown to her so she could return it. Of course, Santino saw this, got distracted and was slammed off the top rope. Alabama Slam and it’s goodnight moon.

Winners: Rhodes & Holly at 3:48. I’m guessing this will lead to another stellar Lawler in-ring feud. “Is something going on?” Santino hilariously asked Maria. Sometimes the stuff he says without the mic is as funny as stuff he says that’s meant to air.

-Highlights from the WrestleMania Press Conference from earlier today is next.

[Break]

-Clips of the Mayweather/Show feud to this point were shown.

-JR and Lawler talked about the match, then sent it to highlights of the Press Conference.

-Todd Grisham was backstage with William Regal, who had an announcement about tonight’s main event. It’s a tag match, with Mr. Kennedy teaming with Randy Orton to face Triple H and John Cena. Grisham left and Chris Jericho walked up to Regal. Nice trade-off. After some hair jokes were exchanged, Jericho asked about his request to be in the Money in the Bank match. Regal said he’d have to qualify by beating someone who is already in the match, and who pinned him in the Elimination Chamber: Jeff Hardy. Oh, and the match is next.

[Break]

(2) Jeff Hardy vs. Chris Jericho- MITB Qualifying Match
Some early work on the arm by both men. Crowd is solidly behind Hardy. Springboard dropkick from Jericho missed, but he’s still on offense. After a pin attempt by Y2J, Hardy monkey-flipped Jericho over the top and to the outside. Hardy tried a baseball slide but Jericho moved. Both men went back in at the same time and stood face-to-face in the ring as the show went to break.

[Break]

Back live, it’s Jericho on offense. Stiff chops delivered by Jericho, but both men end up on the mat after a mid-air collision. Hardy took over after both men got up but only got a near-fall. “Y2J” chant now from what sounds like the males. Hardy went for Whisper in the Wind, but Jericho crotched him on the top. Whisper in the Wind DID finally land, though Jericho was half-way down on the mat when Hardy hit it. Walls of Jericho was locked in but Jeff got to the ropes. Inside cradle by Jeff for two. Jericho countered Hardy and rolled him up for the three.

Winner: Jericho at 12:34. Good TV match. Probably between two and three stars.

-“Hornswoggle Devastated”: Mr. McMahon is set to apologize to his son...next.

[Break]

-Mr. McMahon came out and said he made a mistake. He said head trauma and spinal injuries are what Horny suffered. He insisted that JBL come out and apologize as well. Vince said he ought to beat the hell out of JBL right now. That got a mild pop from the fans. He said JBL wasn’t there to annihilate his son, just to keep Finlay in check. JBL said he was sorry....that he didn’t do it sooner. JBL said he has it on very good authority that Hornswoggle is NOT his son. He said this ruse was perpetrated by the top of WWE, including Vince’s family. He said Horny was FINLAY’S son. Vince said he had his doubts. JBL said Hornswoggle didn’t know, but Finlay did, and he can prove it.

-John Cena paid a visit to Triple H’s locker-room. Trips cuts his promo for him, then told him to try not to get beat tonight. Cena simply told Trips that he doesn’t need to watch his back....but he better watch his own.

[Break]

(3) Umaga vs. D.H. Smith
Umaga dished out some punishment to start. Big splash off the top from the Samoan Bulldozer. Butt splash in the corner was next. Thumb to the throat and it’s over.

Winner: Umaga at 1:40. Total squash.

-Paul Birchall, Katie Lea and William Regal were watching the TV backstage. Regal read a letter from Smackdown GM Vickie Guerrero, inviting him to bring a RAW wrestler to WrestleMania to fight a Smackdown wrestler for brand superiority. Regal immediately chose Umaga, but Katie tried to convince him to choose Paul. Regal said he just needed to show him something more. Burchill said he will. He also said for Regal to call on them again if he ever needs to chat....then insinuated his sister liked Regal.

[Break]

(4) Lance Cade vs. Shawn Michaels
It’s HBK vs. HB Cade. Cade hit some high-impact offense right off the bat. HBK tried a backslide for two. Chops by Michaels, but he put his head down and that cost him. Variation of a Rock Bottom from Cade. To the top, he missed with a Shawn Michaels patented elbowdrop. In fact, Michaels hit one of his own. HBK fended off Murdoch’s interference, then locked in his submission move. Before Cade could tap (I’m assuming he would, of course), Murdoch interfered for the DQ.

Winner: HBK by DQ at 3:33.

After taking a beating, HBK came back and superkicked Murdoch and Cade. Looks like he has a spot of blood on his cheek, and JR guessed that HBK may have re-broken his nose. After Michaels finished celebrating in the ring, Ric Flair came out. He said HBK is incredible, then said it was an honor to be the first active wrestler to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. Well, that depends on your definition of the word “active” I guess. Flair said only one thing would make that weekend better....to battle Mr. WrestleMania, the Showstopper, Shawn Michaels. HBK reminded Flair of the stipulations Mr. McMahon set forth months ago. He said there’s a lot of things he’s ashamed off and he’ll have to live with them, but he can’t be known as the guy to end Ric Flair’s career. Flair questioned if that outcome was a given. HBK tried to back-peddle and Flair said all that Michaels said last week is out the window of Flair doesn’t give HBK a chance to have his greatest match ever on the grandest stage of them all. Michaels, after a pause, finally relented and said it would be an honor to face Flair. It’s a good thing Flair is getting out...he has resorted to begging for matches.

-Shaquille O’Neal, in a pre-taped segment, commented on what he thought the outcome of the Show/Mayweather match would be. Well I can sleep tonight now that I know what the Daddy thought.

[Break]

-Mike Adamle briefly spoke, then sent it to a video package of the next two inductees into the WWE Hall-of-Fame: High Chief Peter Maivia and Rocky Johnson. I guess that means they could get the Rock to come and induct them. Oh, and they even show that Rock will induct them.

-Back to Lawler and JR at ringside, it’s going to be BunnyMania at WrestleMania as Maria & Candice will team up to face Melina and Beth Phoenix (those last two not mentioned by name, but they were on the screen). We then got the requisite video from Maria’s Playboy shoot.

-Cena & Triple H vs. Orton & Kennedy is next!

[Break]

(5) Mr. Kennedy & Randy Orton vs. Triple H & John Cena
God, Kennedy’s new theme sucks. All four men pair off until everybody is out but the faces. Cena and Trips stare at each other, this week’s cue for a break.

[Break]

The show returned with Cena pinning Kennedy, though only for two. Trips is in and he has a spinebuster for The Game. Cena in now, heavily booed. A couple hard tags for the faces and Kennedy took advantage, going to the knee. Garvin Stomp on Trips by Orton. Hunter got stuck in the heel corner and was decapitated by Kennedy’s running kick. Good teamwork by the heels, wearing down Trips. HHH got a boot up in the corner on a Kennedy charge and Kennedy made the tag, but Trips was just centimeters away before Orton got to him. RKO was countered and HHH finally made the tag. Cena did all of his pet moves, but Orton broke up an FU attempt. Triple H took care of him, so Cena locked in the STFU for the win.

Winners: Triple H & Cena at 10:56.

Cena and Trips were face to face as Kennedy came from behind Cena and gave him the Mic Check while Trips just stood there and watched. They played Kennedy’s music as he posed on the ramp.

So did anyone else think the Lawler antics during the Santino/Carlos - Rhodes/Holly tag match were meant to cover up the fact that Maria *forgot* to come over to do commentary during the match? lol. "Well, if she WERE here, she'd be telling you all about her Playboy shoot!" Fooled me with how they did it.

I'm also curious if Flair missed a bit of his promo. He said "that's not where I was going" but didn't say anything more. To me, at least, it mighta been a bit stronger to state that he was going to suggest a tag match -- the two of them side by side -- but with that kind of disrespect he now had to change his mind.

Good report as always, but I think you didn't give the Jericho/Hardy match enough credit. It was fantastic, and worthy of more than just 2 or 3 stars. The last few minutes were intense and I thought the Lionsault would be the finish.

I love Maria and in a different way I still love Santino.

Great Raw, even better than last week.

Really, really fun show.

Regal's "cheeky cow" is top line of the century.

I'm not afraid to admit that I'm getting suckered in by the McMahon soap opera. I wonder if we'll ever learn about The Deal that Vince and Finlay made.

I wonder if Ashley is pissed cos Maria's hooking up with Candice, since basically, it was Ashley that got Maria the photo shoot.

I truly believe that the Triple Threat WM main event was designed to get some people to support Randy Orton. Because I was yelling for Orton to bitchslap both Cena and HHH in the opening segment.

And finally, here comes my wishful thinking. I couldn't stop smiling during the HBK-Flair meeting. My thoughts went something like "oh shit, Flair is setting his ass up BIG time. Shawn's getting suckered in in a way that'll make Sting send him a thank-you card. Flair is going to turn on him HARD." If only...

It felt kind of like Raw was put in the DeLorean tonight. We have a main event scene that feels very played out. We have the most talented guys on the roster putting on great matches while seemingly trapped in midcard hell and somehow trying to convince ourselves that losing match after match somehow equals a huge push. We have an overpaid celebrity who isn't likely to justify his paycheck.

Somewhere I think I hear Tony Schiavone welcoming us to WCW Monday Nitro!

That said, the Hardy v. Jericho match was swell and very fun to watch. Of course it is going to be high-larry-us to see people trying to spin for Hardy's "push" after Kennedy wins MITB at WM.

The Flair and Michaels segment was awesome despite Flair seemingly missing a line. I know people will say one of the younger wrestlers should get the final win over Flair, but at this point I really feel like the crowd would shit on that sort of thing. It has to be an ending wqhere the people can applaud both guys and feel like it was someone "worthy" of the honor, and no one fills that role more than Michaels.

Paul Burchill and Katie Lea are creepy. I kind of like that.

So the end of the show seems to be pointing at Cena/Kennedy one-on-one, maybe for next week.

Umm...is that REALLY a good idea? Especially considering what happened LAST TIME Cena and Kennedy went one-on-one?

As a big Kennedy fan, it is great to see him back in the mix. He was really kind of wandering around for a while, unmotivated and without much direction.

That being said, the MITB this year seems REALLY intriguing, as well as wide open. Before RAW tonight, I think everyone would have said that Jeff Hardy was the clear cut favorite. However, with Jericho going over him clean and Kennedy getting the best of Cena while closing out the show with his music playing...the result is going to be really hard to call. Call me excited.

You know, a thought that just occurred to me ... if they're going to book Orton to lose at WM, it'd be an awesome idea if they were to have him come out at the end of the MITB match and just DEVESTATE whomever wins, especially if it's Kennedy. "NOW try to challenge me after I win tonight!" Boom, instant feud, and allows for a HHH-Cena feud post-WM over the belt. Might even work if Orton's booked to win, to add to a Kennedy-Orton feud over the belt while HHH and Cena still feud over who screwed who out of the title.

I think this is exactly what WWE wanted you to think. Y2J beating Hardy clean and Kennedy saying he was gonna cash it in the same night was designed to hide the fact that Hardy is the clear favorite to win the MITB. I mean, think about it . . . if Kennedy was really going to win and then cash it in the same night . . . would WWE really alert you to that possibility beforehand? As for Jericho . . . I love him, but the momentum really isn't there right now.

Hardy/Jericho was all kinds of awesome tonight. More, please!

Dear Raw workers & crew:

I'd like to personally apologise for the crappiest audience ever for WWE in Phoenix. I was over on the fixed camera side, which is always quieter, but I was trying to do my part. Dead-dead-dead. No clue what the deal was. Usually we *adore* us our HBK, & we should have been all over Ric Flair -- audience was to busy randomly woo-ing to pay attention to the segment. Throughout, we were just bad.

(Cena was totally polite & also so totally right to come out after-show" "Wha? Did I get on the wrong bus & end up in Tucson???" (Not that Tucson is necessarily a bad crowd -- the building is well less than half the capacity for wrestling!)

Sorry!!!!

Red herring! Ain't no Ken Kennedy gonna interrupt Triple H's three-years-in-the-waiting coronation. And Jeff can afford to lose to Jericho here because he's winning the thing.

I loved that match. I remember the match they had at No Way Out '03 on short notice when Test got yanked from the show at the last minute for being Test and Jeff was two months away from being fired, and that match was really good. Now with Jeff at peak confidence getting main event reactions, this was even better.

This card is coming together nicely. The Raw title match isn't guaranteed to be great, but it's Mania so they'll be given every opportunity to be -- and unlike the WM22 threeway it's not going to get cut to 8 minutes. Michaels/Flair isn't guaranteed to be great, but it's Shawn Michaels at Wrestlemania and it's Ric Flair in his last match, so I can't see how it won't be at least as good as HHH/Flair. Taker/Edge should be great. Batista/Umaga could be fun. The ladder match will be great because it always is; I assume it'll be six guys this time, I just wonder if MVP and Matt Hardy will be in it or in a singles. If not them, then Kane and ... someone? KHALI DOESN'T EVEN NEED TO USE THAT LADDER, JOEY STYLES, HA HO.

Rock is going to get booed and it's going to be so annoying. The HOF crowd is the worst crowd in wrestling this side of the Impact Zone.

Jericho references peeing in Regal's tea and Regal remembers knowing Paul Birchill before this month...Regal = CONTINUITY!

I'm sure Santino/Lawler will lead to comedy (and Santino sadly losing) but was anyone else disturbed by the King calling to Maria like a dog?

More props here for Jericho/Hardy.

I totally agree ... maybe it's just that I'm excited that it's Wrestlemania time, but last night's show was great in building the card.

I'm hoping that Matt & MVP get their own match on the card, just for the fact that I've always felt that one of the secondary titles should be defended. As for the final 4 MitB slots, you've gotta put John Morrison in there. And who from Smackdown gets in there? Looking over the SD roster page, Kane is really the only viable choice.

You guys were loud for Hardy/Jericho. I actually wouldn't mind if this kept up. Don't get me wrong, there were other parts of the show that deserved more reaction, but to be honest, I have no problems with you guys emboldening WWE to push Hardy and/or Jericho.

I worry simply because WWE seems to have a habit of shoehorning old interrupted plans into current booking no matter what. See the current main event of WM. It would seem not at all surprising to me to see Hardy and Kennedy the final two, Kennedy pull some sort of evil trick, and get the briefcase. Of course he won't interrupt the HHH title win, but they can always have something happen after MitB (say Hardy gets payback after the match). But since last year's plan seemed to be eventually to lead us to HHH v. Kennedy, I can't imagine that now that they can reset things they won't go that way.

I guess at this point I just don't really see where Hardy could fit into the main event picture. (not fantasy booking, but trying to figure out who could main event.) HHH is almost surely getting the belt back at WM. Assuming the usual Backlash rematch of some sort we're into May. They aren't likely to jump into a face vs. face feud for the belt, and HHH would be hard pressed to turn heel at this point in time. So we go to say Kennedy or Umaga. That occupies some time. It seems hard to fathom that they would then continue to keep Cena out of the main event picture as he is still the biggest draw. Orton is still lingering on the periphery of the main event. Where do you shoehorn Jeff Hardy into that mix? I hope I'm wrong on this, but I really just don't see how you do it.

I don't know - I thought Flair meant that line in the sense that "it seems you think that I asked you for the match because I'd like you to be the guy that retires me, since I think you're a great performer and I respect you, but that's not what I meant at all" and then went on to explain that the reason he wants the match is because of how big and great it can be. Looking at it that way, it doesn't sound like he missed any lines.

Is it me, or did Jeff actually give Jericho the rub last night? Jericho has been in a funk for the last 6 weeks (thanks JBL), and needed that win to seem like a legit threat. I guess Jeff's elevation is working.

I really look forward to the Flair-HBK storyline over the next few weeks, as well as the eventual match.

I'm surprised they didn't have Flair come out to save Michaels first. Him waiting to come out until after Michaels handled a 2 on 1 seemed unusual.
Hardy/Jericho was the perfect opportunity to turn Jericho heel. If you believe Jericho isn't winning MITB, then have him lose to Hardy, get disappointed, ask him for a rematch for the I-C Title, and then have him go complete heel and destroy Hardy for the belt, thus giving them an out for Hardy losing MITB if they go that way, as the damage from Jericho caused Hardy to not be at top condition. That gives you a few months of Jericho vs. Hardy for the I-C Title, then, if they want Jeff to go to the top spot in the summer, plug him in at SummerSlam. And, Jericho really needs to be a heel, as he is at best the #6 face on RAW, and could drop further.
Santino vs. Lawler has already been done. Makes no sense to go back down that road. If they aren't going to move the belts to Carlito/Santino, it is time to have Carlito make his move on Maria and begin the feud over Maria.
