TONIGHT: John Cena and Randy Orton sign their No Way Out contract tonight. Also, Hornswoggle becomes the first to join the Vince McMahon Kiss My Ass Club in HD! Sometimes, I’m glad I don’t have Hi-Def. This….will be one of those times. And expect a Patriots reference.

-WWE Open.

-RAW Open.

-13,562 fans, fireworks, and the announcers welcomed us to the University of Texas for RAW. Tonight, John Cena faces Mark Henry in an arm-wrestling match and Hornswoggle is forced to join the Kiss My Ass Club.

-It appears we’ll begin with the contract signing. Orton was in the ring and said Cena’s word means nothing to him, so he wants this title match in writing. Orton told Cena to come on down if he really wants to fight at the PPV. Cena came out and quickly signed the contract. Orton said if Mark Henry injures Cena’s newly-healed pec tonight in their arm-wrestling match, their match at No Way Out was still on. Henry ran down to the ring, distracting Cena, and allowing Orton to hit the RKO.

[Break]

-SCHEMING~! backstage were Orton and Henry. Todd Grisham interrupted asking why the set Cena up like that. Orton played innocent while Henry played tough.

(1) Kelly Kelly & Mickie James vs. Victoria & Beth Phoenix
Kelly bridged out of a pin and got a backslide, then a roll-up. She ended up getting clotheslined down though, and hair-pulled. Kelly got away the second time and tagged Mickie, who head-scissored her way into the ring. Beth shook the top rope, knocking Mickie off, though she didn’t come down as gracefully as Candice. Mickie looked in a guillotine submission, but Beth got out. Victoria tagged in and speared Kelly- that allowed Mickie to catch her and pin her after a Tornado DDT.

Winners: Mickie & Kelly at 2:42. Pretty decent match. Kelly looked competent.

-Regal was backstage telling Hornswoggle he should be proud to join the Kiss My Ass Club.

[Break]

-Shawn Michaels came out. JR noted that Triple H was not at the arena due to a family emergency. Remember the LAST time we heard that? HBK said last year at WM, he came close to beating Cena. He said 2nd place isn’t good enough for him. Michaels said despite his awesome career, he’s not satisfied. He told those in the Chamber match to look out. That brought out Y2J. Jericho said he was with HBK up until he inferred that he’d win the match at No Way Out. Jerich said no-one has been in more Chamber matches than him. Jeff Hardy came out next. Hardy said he’ll do whatever it takes to win at the PPV. Then JBL interrupted, leaving Hardy with the least mic time, not surprisingly. JBL insulted Texas, his former home-state. JBL said the difference between them and him is that JBL gets what he wants. He said he paid off Umaga to ensure he wins the Chamber match. Then Umaga came out and stared at JBL. Snitsky’s music hit next and he said they all had their chances and that he deserves a shot in the Chamber. “Brush your teeth” chants from the crowd. He said he’ll take someone’s spot if he has to. HBK said he doesn’t deserve anything except a good dental hygienist. Things broke down into a pier-six brawl until William Regal stopped it, announcing a six-man tag for later in the show.

[Break]

(2) Mr. Kennedy vs. Super Crazy
Low dropkick from Kennedy. He then hit a knee, then a drop-toe hold. KK worked the leg, with the story being him previewing his match with Flair at NWO. Kennedy wrapped Crazy’s leg around the ring post. He then blocked an enziguiri and applied an inverted figure-four for the submission win.

Winner: Kennedy at 2:30.

Kennedy got his mic and showed a clip from “last night’s” Friday Night Smackdown, with MVP getting DQ’d in his match with Flair, then attacking him after the bell. Kennedy said he’d give Flair an opportunity next week to forfeit the match at No Way Out. If he doesn’t, Kennedy said Flair will walk with a limp for the rest of his life after their match.

[Break]

-Mike Adamle previewed the Elimination Chamber match, then we got the Chamber video. I really like the Seether song they’re using as the theme for No Way Out.

(3) Santino Marella & Carlito vs. Brian Kendrick & Paul London
Kendrick was all offense until Santino pulled open the ropes and Brian fell to the outside. London chased Santino around the ring while Carlito nailed the Back-Stabber for the pin….already?

Winners: Marella & Carlito at 1:09. Is London not healthy enough to fight yet?

-Backstage, Vince McMahon was getting his ass buffed. He then requested a dollop of ass cream. Hornswoggle joins the club…next!

[Break]

-Vince McMahon came out and said he has set an example of his employees by having them kiss his ass. Vince scolded parents for not disciplining their kids enough. He said no one administers tough love anymore. He’s not in favor of time-outs or forcing kids to stand in a corner. He wanted all the kids in the arena to stand up and be recognized. Vince called every one of them a spoiled brat. He blamed the parents. Finally, after that bizarrely long rant, he brought out Hornswoggle. Vince got down on one knee and told Horny that this will hurt him more than his son. Vince pulled his pants down and hitched up his under-shorts. Hornswoggle refused. After some time, he gave in. As he was about to kiss it, Finlay’s music played. The Irishman came out and yelled, “what’s wrong with you?” at Vince. Vince said tonight is about discipline and Finlay can kiss his ass after Hornswoggle. Finlay ordered Hornswoggle to stay back, then whispered something to him. Horny bit Vince’s butt as the crowd had no reaction. That had to be disappointing. Vince said, because of all the fans laughing at that (they weren’t), next week, he’s going to take on his son in a match. And if Finlay gets involved, he’s fired.

[Break]

-JR plugged the six-man tag match for later tonight.

(4) Hardcore Holly & Cody Rhodes vs. Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch
Holly took down Murdoch, but Trevor got an inverted atomic drop and a kick to the face. Side Russian leg sweep from Cade after a tag. Holly got a dropkick in, and both men made tags. Nice bulldog from Cody for two. Back-body drop and a DDT from Rhodes after attempted interference by Cade. Pin was academic.

Winners: Holly & Rhodes at 3:16. This was on the way to becoming a good match.

Carlito and Santino came out after the match. Carlito said they were just announced the new #1 contenders for the tag titles. Santino insulted the champs and said they have as good a chance at retaining the titles as Maria does posing for Playboy.

-Cena faces Henry in an arm-wrestling match, later tonight.

[Break]

-The Divas talked about their appearance on “Project Runway.”

-JR and King previewed the No Way Out lineup.

-All three faces made their entrance for the six-man tag match, which is coming up after the break.

[Break]

Jeff Hardy, Shawn Michaels & Chris Jericho vs. Snitsky, JBL & Umaga
HBK chopped at Umaga, who missed a sit-down splash. A headbutt greeted Y2J upon his entrance into the match. Snitsky came in and missed his running kick. Jeff tagged in and Jericho got down on all fours, allowing Hardy to splash Snitsky. JBL went to work on Hardy after a tag, but Jeff hit a mule kick. HBK tagged in and tagged Snitsky with a flying forearm. Snitsky missed another running boot and Michaels applies his leg-lock, which was broken up by Umaga. Things started breaking down and all three faces planchad onto the heels on the outside, leading to a break.

[Break]

It’s Snitsky and Jericho in there out of break. The heels illegally worked Jericho over in their corner. Samoan drop by Umaga for two. Big kick by JBL as the heels are rotating the beatings on Y2J. Jericho finally got the best of Umaga and was able to tag Jeff. Whisper in the Wind on Snitsky and everybody came in and hit their finishers. Hardy ended up pinning Snitsky after a Swanton.

Winners: Hardy, HBK and Y2J at 10:12. Good match, except for the usual extended Umaga rest period.

-Cena is walking backstage, on his way to the ring for his arm-wrestling match.

[Break]

-Candice returns to RAW…but no date is given.

-The arm-wrestling contest was the main event. John Cena came out first. Henry was next. Henry stalled as expected, but once they got started, Henry got the advantage. As usual, once Cena started coming back, Randy Orton attacked. They didn’t last long as Cena came back and Orton ran. Cena picked up Henry and FU’d him. I’m begging someone to change up the formula for the arm-wrestling gimmick. Then again, I’d prefer to never see it again.

Very bland Raw.
Kelly Kelly is getting better.
Main event interview (with Snitsky) was good.
Too many short matches.
Elimination Chamber participant matches (minus HHH plus Snitsky) was pretty good. Snitsky like the JTTS that he is ate the pin. Hardy also got the pin so maybe they are keeping the Jeff Hardy push alive.
Ok here is the thing that bugs me. I like Cena and dislike Henry. But how does Cena hold his own and was getting ready to beat Mark Henry in an arm wrestling contest? Henry is much stronger and it's his only gimmick.

Paul London had a foot injury, so you figure if he's good enough to run around the ring many times, the foot's good enough to wrestle.

This Raw was horrible. No other way to put it.

1) Everyone knew Mark Henry was going to get the FU and it was going to be a screwjob ending to the arm wrestling match. They have totally destroyed any chance of Henry ever getting a push again. Maybe that's a good thing though.

2) Everyone knew James was going to pin Victoria in the women's match.

3) Everyone knew Snitsky was going to get pinned in the six man match.

3a) Everyone knew Super Crazy was going to lose to Kennedy

3b) Everyone knew that Holly/Rhodes was going to win.

3c) Everyone knew who was going to win the Carlito/Santino match.

4) Hornswoggle angle has finally gotten real old now. The only question is how they end the angle.

5) Maybe the wrestlers were tired from just airing next week's Raw before this one. (you can go to any wrestling site for the spoilers for next week's Raw)

Of all the great announcing moments in Jim Ross' career, perhaps none are better than the pure disgust in his voice during these Kiss My Ass segments. McMahon's personal ass-buffer was brilliant. During Vince's big rant about the kids being spoiled brats, the camera caught a great shot of a Ralph Macchio-lookalike holding up his hands in a 'Whaaaaat??' motion.

“How is it that I am a good actor? What I do is I... pretend to be the person I’m portraying. You’re confused.
Case in point: in Lord of the Rings, Peter Jackson comes to me and says ‘I would like you to be Gandalf the Wizard,’ and I said ‘You are aware that I am not really a wizard?’ and Peter Jackson said ‘I would like you to use your acting skills to portray a wizard for the duration of the show.’ So I said ‘Okay’ and then I said to myself ‘Mmm.. How do I do that?’ And this is what I did: I imagined that I was a wizard, and then I pretended, and acted, in that way on the stage. How did I know what to say? The words were written down for me in a script. How did I know where to stand? People told me where to stand." -- Sir Ian McKellen, Extras

Snitsky getting chants about his teeth make him about as over as Albert was when he got chants about his back hair. In other words, I'd love to NOT see him on my TV again.

Hey, remember when London and Kendrick had a year-plus tag title reign? Yeah, it's good to remember those days as I watch them get pasted in a minute by that dynamite duo of Carlito and Santino. But in more encouraging tag team news, Cody Rhodes is getting a lot better in the ring. Now if he can get himself a personality, like Randy Orton did, then he'd be set.

I also can't help but remember Spiraling_Shape's post from the Royal Rumble thread regarding John Cena.

That was my thought as the show ended.

It'd be one thing if he just returned six months ahead of schedule and took it easy. But he just lifted MARK HENRY over his head, nearly effortlessly. Even I'm starting to wonder if this miracle recovery doesn't reek of HGH.

Two random thoughts I had:

(1) Is it smart for pro wrestling to have a theme song titled "Fake It"?
(2) Wow, the dog show gets shunted off to CSPAN at 9pm. Is that a first?

I was in & out watching Raw tonight, so I didn't get to see all the matches. For what I saw though, it seemed to be hit or miss all the way through.

What I saw:

-The diva match looked decent, the second week in a row I could say that it was one of the better matches on Raw.

-The elimanation chamber interview with everyone but Trips came off rather lame, with the usual "I'll win/ No, I'll win/ No, neither of you will win because I'll win" banther.

-Highlight of the night was when they showed Mike Adamle talking about the elimanation chamber match in front of the fans. Most of them looked really bored, but between the bald dude on the left who look bug-eyed, the guy right behind Adamle who seemed to be boping his head ala 'night at the roxbury' and the guy on the right who was so thrilled to be on TV he was messing around on his blackberry without ever looking at the camera in front of him, I couldn't stop laughing for a good couple of minutes.

-Carlito/Santino vs. London/Kendrick was good but way too short. At least they're buliding up Carlito/Santino as a winning tag team; hopefully, the tag titles aren't far behind.

-Didn't watch the Kiss my ass club part cause I was sure it would be a waste of time and reading the review, I was on the mark. The Hornswaggle/McMahon match next week is going to be rough to watch.

-The 6 man tag match was pretty good. They did the right thing by giving Hardy the pin to keep his momentum going, though I get the feeling that it was only made possible partly because of Trip's absence.

-The arm wrestling 'main event' was nothing to be impressed by, but at least they kept it short.

Not exactly a worthwhile episode this week and I don't think it will improve much next week either. But at least Candice Michelle is coming back soon, so that's something to look forward to.

Chris Jericho - The New King of Math.

Jericho: "I've won and been in more Elimination Chambers than anybody!"

Jericho's Elimination Chambers: 3 (tied with Shawn Michaels who has also been in 3, 4 if you count his stint as a referee)

Jericho's Elimination Chamber Wins: 0.

Is Mark Henry a part of Raw now? This would be really disappointing as I was a big fan of him and Big Daddy V overpowering helpless wrestlers over on Smackdown. There are too many people on Raw as it is, and it's starting to hurt the product.

I'm not completely sure, but I think this was the first time I've ever heard a chairman of a major, publicly-held company advocating on live TV that parents should lower their pants in front of their children, so their kids can kiss their junk.

You know, for the good of the children.

Hooray, my unnerving insights are memorable!

No Hunter for 2 weeks of RAW...is that the way to justify him back in the WM main event?

Is "Snow (Hey Oh)" the theme song for WM this year? It's a few years old, overplayed and WM is in a warm weather climate...why a song called "Snow"??

Perhaps Balding Tough Guy With A Little Friend Who Has a Name Like a Little Girl Magazine is only available in Italy...or at least at Santino's Casa!

Did he say he won? I just thought he said eh was in 3, but am not sure.

The whole Santino/Carlito vs Kendrick match sums up pro wrestling in general. It doesn't matter how good you are in the ring if you don't have personality and charisma. That why Santino/Carlito get the push, and Kendrick gets squashed. Fair? That's debatable. But let's not forget that the title reign of Kendrick lasted a long time not just because they were talented, it was also because there was not much competition in the tag division, and they rarely wrestled/defended the belts on PPV, at least not the big ones.

I don't think I will remember this show a week from now.

Kendrick and London have loads of in-ring charisma. They can get over on wrestling ability and energy alone. Also, has anyone ever seen a K/L promo? Even in the whole year they were WWE tag champs? I'm talking about a real wrestling promo, not that horrific Kendrick/Rhodes/Holly MySpace skit the other week. It's pretty hypocritical to de-push someone based on mic skills when you never give them time to speak.

Don't get me wrong, I love Kendrick, but there is a reason they don't get pushed like Carlito/Santino (who I also love). As I recall, any interview/promo/skit I have seen from them was about as convincing as the one you mentioned with Rhodes/Holly. Look at Jeff Hardy. He finally improves his promo skills to a decent level and gets the rock star push.

I don't think so. The brand extension now has magical rules whereby anyone from any brand can show up on any show whenever they feel like it. Mark Henry, Finlay, Hornswoggle, Victoria, and Ric Flair were all Smackdown, last I checked, and Kelly Kelly is from ECW. Maybe. And I have no idea what brand Chavo is supposed to belong to. Or why the Highlanders were on ECW the other week.

Yes, he said that he had won and been in more ECs than anybody. I think he realized midway through the sentance that he'd never won any of them, which is why he doubled back and added the "been in" (which was also not true, but is certainly *more* true than the other way.
