I really don't think there is any chance in Hell that Jericho is coming back to be inserted into the title match on Sunday. He has been away for over 2 years, why in the world would he even deserve it? Even WWE "logic" isn't that retarded. Same with HBK, RVD or Show, for that matter.
It should at least be someone who has been active in recent months.

Orton-HHH sounds the most plausible at this point. And their matches in 2004 and 2005 were not nearly as bad as people make them out to be. As I recall, they were pretty good. If Orton was poised to take the belt Sunday anyway, as some claim, then put him over HHH and have them feud for the rest of the year. That way, we don't have to see it at 'Mania. You can mix HBK in there too when he returns, it was Orton that put him on the shelf.

I posit: a combination of using increasingly older stars with knee problems (Shawn Michaels, Rey Mysterio), increasingly older stars who are still maintaining bodybuilder bodies (Triple H, Batista), increasingly older stars who take on a renewed commitment to a full-time schedule and the physical requirements of the top spot (Undertaker), not-as-old stars with huge physiques (John Cena, Bobby Lashley), and not-as-older stars with not-as-big physiques whose names still showed up on internet pharmacy steroid purchases (Edge, Ken Kennedy, Mysterio).

I think it's also a factor that we just KNOW more now than we did then. The guys who were "working 300 shows a year" just took more stuff to get them through their injuries and kept working because they needed the money and they didn't want guys taking their spots, and the fans didn't have all of the information sources we have now for this sort of thing.

Of course, a great number of those guys who worked through injuries are dead now, so maybe instead of a COMPLETE bummer, this is actually a little bit of progress, too.

Well, apparently on ECW last night (didn't watch, but read the report) they attributed it to Orton's post-match attack.

They put together a snazzy little video package showing the couple of RKOs from just the right angle that they look like they're injuring Cena's pecs. I have to say that it looked very convincing.

Indeed. Much more effective than showing a slow-motion hip-toss and then inserting a "rrrrRRRRRRRRRRRIP" sound effect.

Last night on ECW all Vince said was that Cena was stripped of the title and that at the PPV, 'History will be made.'

No word on WHAT the title match will be.

Here's hoping we get something like a battle royal featuring any or all former champs. How many matches HAVE been announced for NO MERCY anyway. Four or five? Hell, they could even do a Royal Rumble type match for the title.

-----

I am also glad Cena's out for awhile because I'm just really sick of him as 'The Champ'. I would rather see just about ANYONE other then him with the belt right about now. A good majority of his wins seemed like flukes or that he was just lucky to get by. Just because he's held the title for a year doesn't really mean he's deserved it.

Here's hoping that when he comes back, they'll put him back in the mid-card where he belongs.

counting the WWe tittle match 6

WWE tittle
World Tittle
Womans Tittle
Finley Vs Rey Mysterio
ECW Tittle
HHH Vs Umaga

That leave out...Preaty much every one else on the roster

So a mini Rumble would be good lets say 20 people
If they want PPV sales up then they should treat every one as if it was one of the big 4

1) What is with the rash of INJURY YAY comments?

2) I love how we're talking about flukes like wrestling is real. How Cena has been booked is no different than how Bob Backlund or Bret Hart or Shawn Michaels were booked in big matches, which plays to Cena's strengths as a performer.

3) The guy is the biggest name in the territory and has made them the most money of anyone over that period of time and has rewarded the WWE by putting on consistantly great matches when they matter and gets the biggest reacion one way or another of anyone. Why SHOULDN'T they want this guy in the main event?

I just hope this means we get a non-spinning belt again. That belt has really run its course. I'm sure they won't have one ready by Sunday, but hopefully shortly after.

That said, I feel really bad for Cena. He's taken everyone's crap with a smile for years. He didn't deserve this.

I would love to see a new WWE Title too, but you have to remember that the belt is probably an important merchandise item for the WWE -- at least it has to be for kids. Just look at it...nothing on that belt looks to be meant for an older audience. Just me thinking, I dunno...but maybe that's why they've kept it for so long.

As for Cena and the title match...I think the way to go is to is to award the title on some totally unexpected (yet relatively over) babyface, and let them run with the title. When Cena gets back they can have their "I'm the real champion/No, I'm the real champion" match. Maybe Jeff Hardy or find a way to give it to Punk (I don't dig him too much, but he'd work). No matter who they put the title on, it's going to result in fresh matches and scenarios.

It's just a message board, people. Chill out.

If they REALLY want to do something fun and fresh, put the belt on Shelton Benjamin. Shelton cna put on great matches against Umaga, HHH, Kennedy, Hardy etc. and he would bring some new interest to the belt. Being a heel, he can say he is only going to put the title on the line at PPV matches and each RAW match he wresltes, he can walk out of or let himself get pinned easily. The crowd will HATE him for it and then at the PPV, he ratches it up a notch and defeats whoever to hold the belt. Then on the following RAW he basically says he is a MONEY wreslter and only gives it his all at MONEY EVENTS (ie PPV). After hsi first defense, he can then say he is holding the SHELTON OPEN at over the next four weeks, there will be a tournament to determine the #1 contender.

Everyone knows Shelton would be a transition champ until HHH wants it back, but if they wanted to do something different for a coupl eof PPV until that time, this wouldn;t be half bad. Plus, he would have Haas in his corner protecting his back which COULD lead to a mini fued after he loses the title and elevate Haas to IC level.

Somebody at WWE.com headquarters is having fun. The "Who should be champ" poll over on the main page has none other than Val Venis (as of this posting) in the lead with nearly 50%. That, or the WWE marks really don't know what the hell they want.

It would be cool (in a stupid way) if Venis won. Suprised that HHH has such a small amount of votes.

Well, after all the posts on this show, y'all finally encouraged me to catch up

Now I'd seen vaguely that Cena was hurt and going to have to abdicate, but I went in wondering if somehow Kennedy was going to come out of Raw as the new champion, that obviously didn't happen. But woo, that was one of the MANLIEST displays I can remember, Cena going through that whole match and Orton beatdown with a torn pec. Knowing something was coming, you could tell when it happened, but to Cena's credit the initial reports I saw really didn't identify that his dominant arm was dead within a minute of the opening bell.

You can also count me among the "don't hate Cena so much as I hate the way they've Hulkishly booked him for the last 3 years" crowd. He's the anti-Lesnar in terms of justifying the push WWE's invested in him, plus you hate to see another title run vacated. But just consider that in recent years, "Today's athletes get injured more often because they train year-round, and are now such finely-tuned machines" could be code for all these injuries (wrestling and sports in general) being linked to wellness concerns.

I'm sure there will be plenty of time later to beeyotch about who they give the belt to

Personally, I like the bling factor on the current belt, I just wish they would put a pin in the thing so it would stop spinning. Seems that whenever someone holds it up, the weighting/design makes it spin upside down, making it look like a big diamond "M". This only works for WWE Champion Matt Hardy.

On the matrix commercials, I would be soooo disappointed if this turns out to be HBK, but I think they may have felt the need to swerve people that figured out it might be Jericho right off the bat. Kinda like that WKRP episode where Fever read off a $50.00 contest prize as $5000? Gotta make the suspense last. Mind you, I'm not privy to the newsletters - but if Y2J's *not already back in the fold, I think his price just went up another half-million...

As for the actual show, I can't even remember the last time Vince didn't have a high-profile program going on Raw. "Save us", indeed. Arrgh. Nice to see them get back on track with the comedy (Santino, Hornswoggle, Regal) tonight - I guess that's the new strategy now.. playing Raw for entertainment and ratings/ad dollars, rather than trying to use it for a full-court press hard sell of the next PPV.

And Ron Simmons speaks! That had to be an ad-libbed spot when Cena's injury left them with extra time..

Because Cena's had the damn belt for so long, this seems like ie was the ONLY way to get the thing away from him. It's not like I'm laughing my ass off at him getting hurt, that sucks for him and I'm glad it's not anything really bad, I'm just glad to not have him on my television and getting shoved down my throst as the greatest thing to happen to wrestling since Austin or Rocky.

I will admit to laughing about his injury ONLY because of it being a muscle that tore from the bone, which is usually a sign of steroid use, which... you know... he isn't supposed to be using.

What I was saying about his wins is that they booked him as Champion the only way they could, given his talent and stature. Just about his only strength was his mouth, and that got cut off a while ago when they stopped giving him his little raps to come out and do. Lately, he's just been a little white guy who wants to be black living off his failed Rap Album's 'street cred'... of which there really wasn't any.

Each of the three guys you mention there were far superior to Cena in every way. Backlund has the wrestling knowledge and charisma to make even the dumbest angles to work, Bret Hart had the mat technique and the superior additude towards his opponents, and Shawn Michaels was Shawn Michaels the Superstar Showstopper who even while phoning in his matches still had great matches.

Sure he sells tons of shirts and spinning belts, but so what. Funaki's EVIL shirt sold tons and they didn't give him a title run. Scotty 2 Hottie was completely over with the worm but I didn't see him with the world title. Cena certainly gets a reaction alright, and I mostly hear people booing him and carrying signs saying "I've Cena Nuff" and things like that. Remember the PPV where he was almost booed out of the arena?

Seriously, you're calling the majority of his matches 'Great'? Really? That says alot about the entire product as a whole for Cena's matches to be 'great'. I mean, sure he looked good against Kahli but that was because Kahli sucked worse then Cena. Week after week, month after month, Cena has been fed wrestlers who are better then him just to make him seem that much more overblown.

Cerebustown is AWESOME personified!
