Another late night at work means no full recap again. Hopefully back to normal next week.

Umaga/Hardy was kind of dull in the opening minutes. I liked Hardy's stunned look when he won though....The Marella/Sandman segment was really a throw-away, but Marella continues to be awesome in his role....I do like Beth as the new killer heel in the women's division....Orton's promo was really good, his best in a while....I really liked the tag match while it lasted, and continuing Cade & Murdoch's "sportsmanship" angle....The mixed tag match was just passable....

The handicap match was disappointing, but I guess they didn't want to give away Triple H's first long RAW match against Carlito and Umaga. The beating Umaga took would be a good way to end the gimmick....Even though the last segment was long, I really liked it. Little things like Vince saying Steph got her temperment from her mom and the kids standing in front of Kennedy. The whole Kennedy thing was done well, and they ended with a good cliff-hanger. "Things are looking up"....

Ok, so let me get this straight. Umaga gets linked to steroids, he loses his title and gets written out with a sledgehammer. Charlie Haas gets linked to steroids, he gets jobbed out. Regal gets linked to steroids, he gets the stuffing beaten out of him and written out of his GM role. Santino gets linked to steroids and Sandman canes the crap out of him. But Randy Orton gets linked to steroids (for the second time in SIX MONTHS, I might add!) and he gets to HEADLINE ANOTHER PPV?! What kind of insane logic is this?! What kind of message is this supposed to send to the locker room? What the hell are they thinking?

I suppose I should take a step back and realize that there's no way in hell Orton's winning the title (not unless Vince REALLY wants to thumb his nose at Congress and I don't think even HIS ego is that massive). But then if that's the case and we KNOW Cena's going over, then what's the incentive to buy the PPV? Why buy a PPV for what's essentially a foregone conclusion?

I really, really don't understand this company sometimes.

EDIT: Scott Keith ventured a guess on his blog that Big Show would ultimately be named the bastard. And honestly, with the roster becoming this dangerously thin, I'm shocked none of us thought of that as a possibility. If Show DOES come back next week, I'm sure he'll be getting a HUGE payday, because he's literally saving the day for WWE this time around.

Here are some more thoughts from a demented mind in Central Florida:
Does anyone else find it odd that Umaga gets linked to steroids/drugs... and he has to job the match and the title to Jeff Hardy?

I saw a report on one of the sites suggesting that Orton had previously told the company about his involvement with the online pharmacy, and he'd already been punished for it. Personally, I wouldn't overlook the possibilty that they've invested so much in getting storyline heat on Orton, that it's too big to blowoff on a free Raw. I wouldn't be shocked if Cena gets revenge for his Dad by annihilating Orton at Unforgiven, and then Randy isn't seen for awhile.

And just for the record, note that there was no Booker appearance at all, but then he really didn't have any loose ends to tie up.

I didn't like the fluky look to Jeff's title win, unless he's just transitioning the belt to another heel. We had the one nice tag match, and really you can't fault the writers for this show given all the programs that have been upset by the suspensions.

As to the big McAngle, I'll put the over/under on takes to get a realistic-looking slap from Linda at 6½. The segments seemed less annoying this week, but that's quite possibly because the end is in sight..

It's fucked up that Umaga has had his way with the roster for months now and Helmsley gets to come back and get the kill on him. Why give Hardy a fluke win? Just let him go nuts with the chair like he did in the past, or have him win the title in a TLC style match and send Umaga off that way. He could have used the slaying more than Helmsley, plus it keeps the feud going for when Umaga comes back.

WORD! That was exactly what I was thinking, too. At the very least, you know Hornswoggle has probably even less of a chance than CM Punk of testing positive for something and wouldn't jeopardize the angle.

Plus, the comedic potential for this one is limitless. It would be the antithesis of Vince's comments about being huge and producing massive offspring. The bonding sequences. Maybe a Christmastime segment where Vince asks him to dress like an elf... "Do it for Dad!" This could be highly entertaining.

Also, with Hornswoggle on the SD brand, the controversy and storyline may help to generate some Neilsen numbers since SD is tanking pretty badly in the ratings.

Santino has become the 2007 version of The Cat in that I love his character, but I don't ever want to see him wrestle. I can't believe I'm actually more saddened by the Santino loss than the loss of Umaga/Regal/most everyone else.

The rest of Raw was pretty good, although it's sad that they just reset some angles (Cade/Murdoch playing bad guys acting like good guys). The final segment was actually entertaining to me, especially when Kennedy came down to ringside.

I wonder if Triple H enjoy playing Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde with his character. Is he the DX prankster? Is he the sledgehammer wielding bastard? Could the fans have looked anymore uncomfortable clapping for HHH when he basically tried to murder Umanga?

I'll tell you what though...I'm definitely looking forward to next week's Raw.

I was thinking the same thing. I mean it's not really believable or fitting his character for Jeff Hardy to destroy Umaga the way Hunter did, but there was such a dichotomy between Jeff getting the fluke pin mit kickout at 3.1 so Umaga would preserve all his heat, all so Hunter could take him down in the end was annoying for the same reasons that Melina cowering in terror from Big Bad Steph's Big Bad Slap were.

Beatdown ranking:
1. Santino. I literally screamed in terror the first time he got cracked by Sandman.
2. Umaga. Pretty good heel beatdown, and I can't wait for Umaga to return for revenge against the dastardly Triple H.
3. Maria. Beth killed her but good. I just don't remember her name coming up in the Signature Pharmacy list.
4. Regal. Cena's facials and reactions were great, but just so we're clear, Regal just got incapacitated by an STFU (on the floor~!)? No FU through a table?

Oh, and the Rednecks must commentate every tag match from this day forward. I love them so much.

PWInsider has reported a rumour that one top talent from Raw has given notice, though nobody is named. I remember reading somewhere that Booker wasn't that thrilled going to RAW and had some heat on him because he booked TNA talent for his local shows and radio gig. Maybe that combined with him being on that list made him hand in his notice?

Yeah. I don't know why, but that little bit with Melina cringing away from the awesome power of McMahonism bothered me more than anything last night -- yeah, even more than Trips pwnzoring Umaga. Maybe because it was so unnecessary except as a plain and simple ego-wank.

But even in re: HHH killing Umagas good, man... It took about eight chairshots and Sister Sledge to the forehead to finally knock him down, and even then Umaga was still on his knees, trying to get back up, doing his whole wounded animal bit. Although at this point, there's probably just as many people screaming "HOW IS THAT A BURIAL?!" than there are saying Umaga got jobbed out and Trips's ego = Trips's ego + 1.

Yeah, I wouldn't call that a classic burial. I'd say both guys looked good coming off of that. HHH moreso, but still.

Oh, I have no problem with the way they did the angle itself, I just meant using him to get over Hunter and not Jeff when they hadn't been programmed and Hunter doesn't really need extra people lined up to make him stronger.

However, I think with the shortage of heels, it's more likely that Umaga is going to come back to work with HHH than continue an IC program with Jeff, so in that case getting the belt off of him as a semi-fluke makes sense. So I probably wouldn't criticize it after all.

It'sd be funny if they did this cuz Big Show would have went from being Anre The Giant's son to Vince's son. Nice.

-edit- Also, if they DO go with this, would that mean that it was Vince who was in the coffin that Big Bossman dragged around?
