HBK/Orton, Cena/Edge and Melina/Mickie in Falls-Count Anywhere match have all been announced on the .com. That’s almost the whole show! When was the last time that happened?

-WWE Open.

-Backstage, Cena wishes HBK good luck. HBK reciprocates. Cena wants to know if he should worry about Michaels. Michaels pretty much makes no promises about what he’ll do to Cena. Then, the TV cuts out and goes to a commercial breal. O.....kay.

[Break]

-We come back LIVE as JR welcomes us to Phoenix Arizona in the US Air Arena, as HBK is making his way to the ring.

(1) Shawn Michaels vs. Randy Orton
Orton comes out with Edge, so apparently those two have made up since last week. The duo take their time getting to the ring. Orton attacks before the bell, but it’s HBK who does the damage with a swinging neckbreaker, back-body drop and then the sends him to the ringside floor. Michaels hip-tosses Orton back in and goes to work chopping him in the corner. Orton catches HBK with a boot coming into the corner and then lands some European uppercuts. Off the ropes goes Michaels, who catches Randy with a knee-lift, but Michaels is back-body dropped out of the ring. We get the first “official” break.

[Break]

Orton puts Michaels in the Boston crab when we get back. Michaels finally makes the ropes, forcing Orton to break. HBK’s hair looks especially stringy tonight. Michaels slides to the outside and thinks about nailing Edge which is a bad idea, as Orton brings Michaels in with a DDT with Michaels’ legs hung on the second rope. Knee to the back of the head by Orton which only gets a two-count. Now Orton gets Michaels on the ground with a chinlock. Michaels feeds off the crowd and is back up, putting Orton down with a suplex. Flying jalapeno by Michaels, and the nip-up follows. Bodyslam on RKO, and HBK goes to the top. He lands the elbowdrop and sets up for the superkick. Sweet Chin Music is caught by Orton, then Orton tries an RKO but is shoved into the ref. Edge tries to give Orton the belt, but the ref intercepts. As Orton pleads with the ref, HBK rolls him up for three.

Winner: HBK by roll-up at 11:18
Post-match the heels get the chairs to set up for the concharito. Orton DDTs HBK on the chair and before they can go further, Cena comes out to break things up. Good stuff to open things this week, though we’ve seen these four in matches so much lately, it’s killing my buzz.

-Coming up next, we find out who the special ref is!

[break]

-Mick Foley setting up him vs. Winston Churchill at WrestleMania in promoting his book, apparently.

-Highlights of Lashley/Holly from ECW and Umaga’s run-in.

-Vince, Armando and Coach are backstage. Vince wants to know what kind of mood Umaga is in. Apparently, he faces Hardy again tonight. AAE says Vince has nothing to worry about. Vince has some not-so-kind words for the board of directors. He has his own idea for who should be the guest referee. He of course thinks Shane should do it. Coach calls Vince a genius, obviously in reference to the “Is Vince a genius?” argument that went on in a thread this week on THIS VERY board.

(2) Jeff Hardy vs. Umaga
What happened to the announcement? I believe this is non-title. Anyway, Umaga immediately tears the ringside mats up. Hardy can’t escape the corner and Umaga whips him into the opposite one. Hardy dodges the charge and heads outside. Umaga goes out, Hardy comes in and Hardy dropkicks Umaga off the apron, the flies onto him on the outside. Umaga misses another charge, this time into the steps. Hardy gets a running clothesline off the steps. He’s already gotten in more offense than I expected. Just as I type that, Umaga clotheslines Hardy down. A butt-splash by Umaga is followed by another. Back to a vertical base, Hardy fights back and gets a jawbreaker. Another clothesline puts him down though. Umaga puts Hardy in the tree of woe and then hits his headbutt. You know, if they didn’t lift their head in the corner, he wouldn’t be able to hit that move. Hardy takes a seat in the corner, and the IC Champ hits the running butt-splash in the corner. He signals that it’s time for the spike. It’s over.

Winner: Umaga by pinfall at 4:06
Match was acceptable, but why Hardy here?

-King and JR introduce a video package that re-traces Lashley’s steps in the last week on WWE TV.

-Later tonight, Cena faces Edge.

[Break]

-Celebs talk about the Trump/Vince match, including Howie Mandel, Mark Cuban, Dr. Drew Pinsky, Erik Estrada and John Travolta (quick soundbite from him).

-Melina is training backstage for her match with Mickie.

-Todd Grisham is backstage with Carlito and Ric Flair. They face each other tonight in the final MITB qualifying match. Flair cuts his usual promo, but Carlito says he has something to prove tonight. Flair says he’ll beat Carlito tonight, because he can.

-Vince is on the phone with Shane in his office/dressing room as Coach listens intently. Shane will be at the arena soon and Shane says it seems the board will be voting Vince’s way. He says Coach resembles Trump and we get a close-up on his bald picture as we take a break.

[Break]

-Chris Masters and chair are in the ring for a Masterlock Challenge. This week, it’s Jim Duggan. Hasn’t he already lost before? Duggan takes a seat and then gets impatient with Masters taking his time. Masters puts it on and Duggan flails around. Hacksaw is down to one knee, but gets a second wind. But in the end, he goes down like all the rest.

-Later tonight, it’s Cena vs. Edge.

-We find out the special ref next as Vince is walking backstage!

[Break]

-We take a look at what happened previously tonight in the HBK/Orton match.

-Cena is backstage as Michaels approaches. We can’t hear what they’re saying at first but then the audio picks up. JR says he doesn’t know what to make of it, probably because he didn’t hear the first half of the conversation.

-The Chairman of the Board enters the arena and vigorously struts to the ring. Next week on RAW, Vince announces a contract signing for their match. The Donald apparently will be in the ring for the signing. As Vince talks in the ring about the special ref, “I’m back” hits and Eric Bischoff comes down to the ring. Oh my. Vince is worried Bischoff will be the guest ref. Eric assures him he’s not. Bischoff stopped by, he says, because RAW is in his hometown of Phoenix tonight. Bischoff, still bitter about his firing, is apparently a face here. Bischoff says everyone will enjoy Trump shaving Vince’s head. Vince says, alright, now, let’s find out who the guest ref is. Mick Foley’s music then hits and he comes to the ring in his referee shirt. Vince does the “big gulp.” McMahon sucks up to Foley big down and says he looks great. Like Bischoff, Mick reminisces about how Vince made his final appearance on RAW in kissing his ass, and now Vince is kissing his. Foley wants his old job back and Vince obliges. Foley of course, plugs his book. He also wants Vince to take care of his room service bill (including the fee for a porn film). Vince announces Mick as the guest ref, but Foley says he’s a special guest ref, but not for Vince’s match. He’s the ref for the Barkley/Phoenix SunsGorilla BBQ eating contest in Phoneix. The gorilla comes to the ring and hugs Mick. Vince tells them to “get the hell out of my ring.” As they leave, Shane-O Mac’s music hits. Vince boogies to the music in the ring. Shane has a worried look on his face and is too worried to even dance. Vince introduces Shane as the guest ref. Shane says the board voted 5-4 and the McMahons lost, as fans chant “3:16" in the background. Shane whispers the name in the ear of Vince as glass shatters and the Texas Rattlesnake enters to quite an ovation. Vince extends his hand and Austin just laughs. Then he calls for a few brews from ringside. He’s wearing a “Arrive. Raise Hell. Leave.” t-shirt. I think Vince wants some beers, but Shane drags him out of the ring. While on the apron, Vince gets a little beer bath. Awesome segment. Guess they’ll wait to have Austin say his first words next week. Good hook.

[Break]

-We see Austin’s return “moments ago” when we get back.

-Backstage, Mick Foley and the Gorilla are walking and having quite the conversation about Austin. As they walk away, Ron Simmons does his thang.

-Special guest ring announcer for the next match: Ashley. She’s got new music to boot.

(3) Mickie James vs. Melina, Falls Count Anywhere for the Women’s Title
Wow, there has been a match in some time tonight. And yet, I’m not fazed. Mickie attacks while Melina poses, but Mickie gets rammed into the security wall. Melina runs backstage and the camera follows. A garbage can throw misses, and Mickie tries a pin on the makeup table. Melina runs again, then gets thrown into a door. She then goes in and it’s the divas locker room. Melina gets tossed over a couch for a two-count. Torrie and Maria are still screaming. Victoria shows up and holds Mickie for Melina to hit, but Torrie gets the old “hairspray in the eyes” of Victoria. Candice shows up wearing a towel, which gets pulled off and the picture goes out. And we take a break, I guess.

[Break]

-We return as Melina is thrown back onto the ramp from backstage. The women roll down the ramp and Melina takes Mickie down. The champ then heads to the ring and goes after Mickie, who re-enters. Mickie comes back with some hair pulls. Fisherman suplex by Mickie for a near-fall. Melina tries to go to the top rope, but ends up sitting on the buckle as Mickie climbs up and starts hammering away on her. Mickie tries a hurricanrana off the top but doesn’t get her legs high enough and ends up falling on her head in the ring. Melina rolls her up for the pin.

Winner: Melina by pinfall, 7:24
Interesting match, but the finish was scary. I think Melina was supposed to block it anyway, so it wasn’t a big screw-up.

At ringside, Melina argues with Ashley, who then goes to the ring to tend to Mickie.

-Tonight, Cena faces Edge!

[Break]

(4) Ric Flair vs. Carlito, MITB Qualifying Match
Carlito with a side headlock, and takes the old man down with a shoulder-block. Carlito then goes to work with some shoulders into the gut of Flair in the corner. This is the final qualifying match. Flair starts chopping away at the Caribbean. Flair hits the buckle and gets a back-body drop. Carlito works that into a two-count. Dropkick and another two-count from CCC. Carlito hits a suplex for just a one-count. Carlito chops at Flair in the corner then puts the boots to the Man. He goes to the middle rope for the ten-count punch but Flair hits an inverted atomic drop and a chop. He puts Carlito down and the crowd is kind of apathetic. Knee-drop gets a two count. Another chop from Flair and Carlito springboards into a back elbow, but contacted Flair when Ric was halfway on the mat already. JR covers and says Flair was trying to get out of the way. The Great Khali’s music hits and he enters the ring. Flair chops away but gets thrown off by Khali as he goes to work on both men. Oh god, Khali’s got a mic. He wants Kane I think.

Winner: No Contest, at around 6:00 (no bell to end things)
I REALLY hope we don’t get Khali in the ladder match. As much as that would be a sight, I was kind of hoping for someone else.

-Coming up next, we find out the fourth member of the 2007 HOF class!

[Break]

-Earlier tonight, we saw Steve Austin get named the special ref for the McMahon/Trump match at WM. Austin will be on ECW tomorrow night!

-The newest member of the Hall of Fame: Nick Bockwinkel. Good choice. I wasn’t old enough to watch him wrestle, and I only remembered him from his run as commissioner in WCW, but I thought he looked good (and sounded good) on the AWA DVD.

-Edge and Orton are backstage and Orton backs out of watching Edge’s back during the match for a meeting with Coach. Orton plain out says, “I don’t have your back.” Cena is making his way to the ring backstage as well.

[Break]

-Next week, it’s the contract signing with the two billionaires!

(5) John Cena vs. Edge
Well before Edge comes out, Nitro, Mercury and Melina make their way to the ring. Perhaps Edge recruited some new backup? Edge gets a mic at ringside and makes fun on Arizona for being one of the last states to adopt MLK day. He says he’s color-blind so he’s not fighting in front of these fans. Hey, he’s stealing Colbert’s material. He says Nitro’s great-great-great grandmother was black, so he’ll fight Cena.

(5) John Cena vs. Johnny Nitro
Nitro goes after Cena immediately and works him over in the corner. Reversal into the buckle and Nitro catches Cena with an elbow, then throws him over the top rope. Mercury throws Cena into the ring post on the outside. Nitro now heads outside and throws Cena into the ring steps. He throws Cena back in the ring and gets a two-count. Rear chin-lock by Nitro and Cena tries to muscle out. He gets a kick to the gut, then a right-hand. Nitro gets caught off the ropes with a clothesline and Cena is on now. Cena not as over with these Phoenix fans. Cena gets Nitro up for the FU, but Mercury interferes with a chop-block. Snap-shot on Cena, but HBK comes out. However, he stops at the end of the ramp as Edge flees through the crowd. MNM are a bit confused in the ring. Michaels turns his back and walks to the locker room while the former tag champs go after Cena. Michaels gets two/thirds of the way up, changes his mind and hits the ring. He tosses out both MNM members. HBK then goes back up the ramp. I don’t get how Cena is confused- how did he know HBK stopped short- he was on his back selling MNM’s attack. Anyway, that’s where we leave off.

Winner: John Cena by DQ at 3:19

Edge's promo was ridiculous. Funny stuff.

I don't like how Cena is reacting in this angle. Why should he CARE if Shawn Michael has his back? They're fighting for the belt soon. Why is he losing sleep over if he can trust his opponent? It's not like Michaels is his best friend or anything. I guess it shows that homeboy really cares about holding tag-team gold, but fuck it, he should just be ready to counter the kick.

I take it that we're getting MNM vs. Michaels and Cena next week, which should be amazing and I'd wager will result in a title change.

The Mickie spot was scary as hell.

This whole stuff with Vince is almost coming across like a character blowoff, which adds to the big-time feel of it. It's naive to think that he's ever going to stay off TV for good but I'd expect a pretty long hiatus for Vince as a character after this.

I don't think you have to worry about Khali being in the ladder match, as it seems pretty clear that they are setting up Kane/Khali.

Logic would dictate that Flair/Carlito would simply wrestle again to determine who gets the last spot. However, I tend to think that logic is not going to rule the day, and Orton is for some reason going to get that spot instead.

All this teasing that HBK is going to turn on Cena almost makes me believe that we are going to see a Cena FU to HBK instead.

Perhaps that's what his "meeting with Coach" was about?

Ya know, Melina has botched spots a lot lately with Mickie. Why the hell is she the champ? To put Ashley over? FUCK THAT. I hope Mickie isn't legit injured after tonight.

BTW, Candice was wear panties, so the camera blacking out was not needed.

Live shows are so much fun! The response for Austin was huge -- even more than it seemed on TV. He didn't promo at all, even after y'all went to commercial. He just did more beers, but was clearly having a great time.

There was a graphic indicating that Austin would be showing up on ECW (from Tucson) tomorrow night, so we'll see if he has anything to say there.

And we got an extra after-show match! Coach wandered out & made HBK & Cena vs. MNM. They all really worked it -- no phoning it in 'cause it's not real. Naturally, since "If it didn't happen on TV, it didn't happen", Cena & HBK were both back in full-face, working together mode. Fun-fun-fun. And Nitro was all over the opportunity -- I'm impressed with him. (Hopefully Edge was just sitting out "because", & not because he's significantly injured.)

I don't know what the deal was with the Mickie spot. It looked legitimately ugly from where I was. There was definitely an "oh shit" moment all around. But she was up & around much faster than she should have been. I think my read is that she was supposed to "miss" the hurricarana, but wasn't really supposed to crash as badly as she did. (I'm not convinced that Melina was responsible -- I tend to think of Mickie as the one who has a history of consistency problems.)

Really fun show, totally packed building, & very hot crowd.

- The build up to the group Austin orgasm was well done.

- Having girls that aren't actual wrestlers doing high risk spots is a really unsafe idea.

- Jeff Hardy was one of the hottest midcarders on the roster, what did he do to become Umaga's job boy?

Overall not much of a show this week. The crowd was hot. There was some good build up, but there just wasn't enough wrestling for my liking.

To those who say people wouldn't look; they wouldn't be interested; they're too complacent, indifferent and insulated, I can only reply: There is, in one reporter's opinion, considerable evidence against that contention. But even if they are right, what have they got to lose? Because if they are right, and this instrument is good for nothing but to entertain, amuse and insulate, then the tube is flickering now and we will soon see that the whole struggle is lost. This instrument can teach, it can illuminate; yes, and it can even inspire. But it can do so only to the extent that humans are determined to use it to those ends. Wait, Mickie James isn't an actual wrestler? I'd understand you saying that about Melina, but Mickie? Along with Victoria, she's just about all they've got left in the women's division.

Can't believe people want to point fingers about Mickie landing badly. It happens.

Shelton landed on his head as well two weeks ago and nobody says he should go back to the basics.
And for the record, he has a tendency to slip and fall. He did it a few times in a row in his feud with Carlito.

I think they need to go somewhere with Cena vs HBK fast, or the thrill of the "can they trust eachother" story will lose it's momentum.

Btw.. Cena has lost all of the annoyingness he had ever since WM21 up until about 6 months ago. Ever since the Marine didn't need hyping he has toned down his character and I actually don't mind him now.
To the point where I can accept him as standard bearer.

That first hour was pretty bad, with one good match, one squash match and another boring Masterlock challenge. I thought the Raw hot streak would end. The second hour rocked though, with the only weird segment (Khali interrupting Flair/Carlito) as a downer. And even then, at least it was unexpected.

A fun Women's match and a good, intense main event just reinforced how great WWE has been with their talent. I must admit though that making a story based on Mickie James missing Hurricanranas left and right is a little odd. It only makes Melina look even worse of a champion, as she has never definitively beaten Mickie, or anyone outside of Maria.

Still, the Austin segment and the awesome Cena/Michaels story pushed this Raw to a thumbs up from me.

Hey BigDaddyLoco, I actually read the thread before posting. Proud of me?

The show was cruising along until the Khali run in and the bait and switch of the main event. That left me with a bit of a bad taste in my mouth.

And If MNM get a title shot next week, does that mean they are a team again (this week). Should be a good match either way.

Seeing Austin in the ring getting that kind of ovation just made me wish they could've found a way to do Austin/Hogan. If only for the crowd reactions, I would still love to see that match. It's sad that egos prevented this from happening.

The Referee tease segment was really good, mostly due to the setup of my buddy. He called me knowing I watch it off DVR after the show is in progress, and told me that Foley was gonna be the guest ref....which pissed me off, since I had heard it was gonna be Austin. Then Foley comes out in his ref shirt, and I sank thinking, ok he wasn't bullshitting me. Then, the events playout and Austin comes out. He set me up, and I totally fell for it.

The Falls Count Anywhere with Melina and Mickie was fun to watch, I just hated it had to endly so quick. That was an ugly fall for Mickie, especially since it all but takes her out of the WM picture. That, to me, is unfortunate.

When Cena made the save after the HBK match, he kept standing over HBK, I was thinking, this would be a perfect spot for a 5 knuckle shuffle, showing Cena take the proactive approach, instead of waiting and fearing something bad to happen with HBK.

Looks like we'll be waiting another week to see if Carlito or Flair gets in MITB. Something tells me it'll be Carlito.

Melina and Mickie are both trained wrestlers.

Melina and Mickie have been trained as wrestlers, but have they had enough matches to be considered trained wrestlers? Maybe, but though they don't always show it.

Things like Mickie falling on her head last night happen way too often to her, with a variety of opponents. She needs to get better or stop putting herself (and her opponents) in dangerous positions.

No doubt. My remark was in response to BDL's assertion that they shouldn't put non-wrestling girls into matches and ask them to do highspots. Mickie and Melina may be bad wrestlers, but they've still been trained.

I don't know about Melina, but Mickie James has had hundreds of matches as Alexis Laree, so I would say she's just accident prone.

I wish I understood what the rationale behind the continuation of the Masterlock Challenge is. The live audience gave it every bit of enthusiasm it deserves -- even Hacksaw was having touble getting a crowd response with this thing.

Live audience was equally confused & disappointed by the Khali interruption. Feh, & pointless.

Just for completeness, Melina's got some substantial background (socaluncensored.com) herself.

Are you kidding me? That's a stupid point. I'm not sure what your point is.

First I wasn't even implying both girls were untrained.

Second, knowing the basics around a ring like how to take a bump hardly counts as Melina being ring savy and it definetly doesn't qualify the two of them to be doing group highspots.

There is no reason to have the Divas doing spots like that when the division is treated as a joke and is used in between big matches in PPVs as a cool down for the audience. It's cheap tits and ass, so they should stick to hair pulling and rolling around grabbing underwear. There are probably one or maybe two that can pull that kind of move off, that doesn't mean they should.

Mickie and Trish might be able to pull that move off 4 out of 5 times. Mickie and Melina ... please. Even the more athletic and better trained women don't get enough bell to bell time in the WWE to be risking their necks doing that stuff.

Do you really think that was a smart spot for those two to be taking or are you just being a smartass here?
