The DX segment felt as if the writers had sat around brainstorming a list of ways DX could humiliate Vince and then decided, what the hell, we'll do 'em all. Result: a segment about 15 minutes longer than it should've been. Triple H impersonating Vince: funny. Shawn doing Shane: slightly less funny. Dick jokes: growing tiresome. Shit from the sky: okay, okay, we get it. "Stand Back": overkill, plus we've seen it before.

At least this wasn't the main event.

And yeah, I was bothered by seeing Mickie kicked aside to make room for a Trish/Melina feud too. It's a little late in the game to complain about Lawler not taking women's matches seriously. He's gotten better -- it used to be nothing but puppiespuppiespuppies -- but there will never be a women's match where Lawler doesn't spend at least half the time talking about how hot they are. Unless it's Aja Kong v. Jazz. (Which I would pay money to see.)

As for fake Kane -- if you're going to kill off an underperforming angle, that's the way to do it.

Good main event. It's not just that Cena is improving. Whether it's his push, the return of ECW, or just the return from injury, RVD has been showing more fire lately. He's not the guy he was five years ago, but neither is he the unmotivated guy just hitting his spots and mailing the rest in the way he did before the injury.

I really thought they were going to have RVD tap and kill ECW right there.

I remember the DX thing being a lot less contrived ... then again I was younger and so were they.

Stand back was funnier when jericho and benoit used it a couple of years back.

While RAW was a little better than OK, count me in as one of those who thought the DX segment was a bore. I found myself switching to ESPN News more than a few times during their segment.

And poo from the sky? Wow. I would expect this stuff from the Spirit Squad as they are kind of immature. But 40+ year old DX members? If I cared at all for HH and HBK, I would have ben embarrassed for them.

Well, that's just drunk talk! Sweet, beautiful drunk talk....

Random thoughts:

1) I could care less for Melina v. Trish, but I could dig Trish as Carlito's *back-up v. Nitro with Melina.

*Valet, not mixed-tag partner, though it will probably go there at least once.

2) The dX skit was ok, but too long by half at least. There was plenty they could have cut and it would have been just as funny. Also, I should never see poo.

3) They could have fed ANYBODY to Umaga. Did we really have to see Kamala's jiggly belly?!-- And when is Umaga going to get a real opponent? You know, somebody that can actually get past the invisible force-field and make him fight for longer than five minutes.

4) Nice tantrum by Edge. Taking the t-shirts was genius, IMHO. My first thought was that he would show up on Smackdown. (where he really is needed....) After the run-in, which did surprise me, I could see him going to ECW. I could even give you a good way to do it: Let RVD piss off Heyman in dropping the WWE title and Paul could turn heel on him by backing Edge to take the ECW title from RVD. There are gaping holes in 'one-sentence' booking, but you get the general concept.

5)I thought Cena would get the STFU on RVD and RVD would refuse to tap, finally passing out after a respectable amount of time. Surprise me, again!

6) They've finally gotten Cena over with the average fan, I think. They had to grind him into dog meat to do it, but hey, who cares as long as he sells merchandise, right?

So at Saturday Night's Main Event, have they announced the Umaga vs. George Steele match yet, or does he have to pin the Missing Link first? The DX thing seemed way too long, the falling poo sucked (even with the corn in it), but I have to admit that I laughed my butt off the first four times HBK did the Shane Dance. The fifth time, and then thereafter, not so much.

-An Orton/Hogan match would do great business for SummerSlam, if that's where this is going. And if they do an angle where Orton is banging or trying to bang Hogan's daughter, he'll get over huge as a babyface. Incidentally, Orton was tremendous last night. Since his comeback, he's been ON (except in his live promos.) I like how Orton sold the non-existent smell when he was walking out.

-The DX segment ran long, but was okay. The crowd wasn't completely dead for the segment, but some parts fell flat. Comedy is hard. It's good they didn't give away that match (which has to be the blowoff.) Hunter's line about 'I'm gonna give all my money to Stephanie and that guy that knocked her up' was tremendous. If they cut 5 minutes off, it would have played better, as Shawn dancing around constantly got progressively less and less over. Also, it made no sense for the McMahon's to wait that long to come out.

-Segueing Trish with Carlito for mixed tags is a good idea. Incidentally, in all that talk about Mickie being 'buried,' I'll point out that she was put over Trish Stratus stronger than anyone in YEARS (maybe since Jazz.) I'm sure they'll come up with something for Mickie James. Not a good promo by Melina, though.

-Great promo from Edge. You could see the run-in from a mile away, but that's good booking. I wonder if we're leading to Heyman going against a defiant Van Dam. Considering Creative likes rehashing rebel/management angles, I consider it likely. To digress, I finally saw ONS II and struck me that in many ways that show was the blowoff of old ECW. ECW's goldenboy, its most popular star, its one hope for a true cross-over phenomenom, finally wins the World Title by beating the epitome of Sports Entertainment. And six years to late, Paul Heyman is the man that gives it to him (by counting the pin.) It's a fitting eulogy for a company. It's top star finally wins the title, as he was destined to do and now ECW can rest. Van Dam not being ECW Champion was always the one thing that HAD to happen. And it finally did. For me, it makes the new ECW a bit more amenable.

Quality of all the shows aside, the E's been making an effort for episodic booking with the ECW launch. Each show is building to the next. And as a pleasant side-benefit, they're ignoring Smackdown and letting Booker and Lashley wrestle for 15 minutes a week, while Finlay beats people up with a stick and a midget.

Regardless, show started off good, but then kind of tapered off.

Man, I'm glad someone else remembered that. Show was pretty "eh" for me, but I did dig Kane wailing on Fake Kane. He wrecked that guy, and then just threw him out the back door like a sack of garbage. That was pretty awesome. Like everybody else, I wasn't real happy with Melina declaring herself the dominant female when the ladies' champ just walked out of the ring after decisively beating Trish. I haven't been digging dX at all, and tonight was no exception. And while I could see Edge's run-in coming a mile away, he did deliver the goods in his promo earlier that night. So thumbs pretty much in the middle from me.

If they were going to throw Vintage Kane away, why have him go over Bald Kane on the PPV?
I know I'm in the minority, but the selling Kamala did for Umaga was impressive.
I think the underappreaciated portion of Stand Back is George Steele's musical prowess.
Is ECW now just the 3rd hour of RAW without DX, or a glorified version of Heat?
They should have had Foley do a 'I Destroyed Ric Flair' promo and saved the Flair revenge promo.

A week ago, I was sort of in favor of the DX reunion, but after last night's promo, not so much. I found it boring and the payoff to be full of wrestlecrap.

The main event between RVD and Cena was great. I really like the way they work against each other. Cena is more raw and brawls while RVD is more surgical and precise with his kicks. I wasn't so sure about the finish (not the DQ, but Cena getting RVD in the STFU with no escape) because I think RVD should look stronger right now, but that's not a big deal. Great TV match and I think it's apparent that they're doing RVD/Cena/Edge at SummerSlam which should be good.

Here are some more thoughts from a demented mind in Central Florida:
Only caught the second half of the show last night. Never you mind why I did.

Came in about halfway through HHH's part of the DX parody. I liked the HHH stuff (though the dicks references went on just a little too long), and the "holy shit" references at the end were funny to me. HBK as Shane O Mac? Boy, if there's a better example of "one trick pony," I've yet to see it. And Shawn wearing a grey wig when he's about, oh, ten years older than Shane? Stones, glass houses, that sort of thing. And just way, waaaayyyy too much of "Stand Back." Put me in the camp of "Benoit and Jericho used it better 5 years ago."

Damn good RVD/Edge match. A bit bugged by the non-finish, but I'm nitpicking here. Gotta keep both RVD and Cena strong at this point.

Kane kills Kane - goodbye, Freakin' Deacon, who could hang a name on you? When you change with every weekday, will anybody miss you?

What Smackdown PPV next???

Why yes, I am both a musician and a lawyer. Thanks for asking. :)

You know who's old? Kamala! He's 56! That's, like, almost as old as Flair! Still, DREAM MATCH.

That dX segment was about 45 minutes too long (or I'm 45 minutes too old. Or they are)

I liked the DX promo. Of course no promo/parody will ever come close to DX parodying The Nation of Domination or nWo parodying The Four Horsemen. I know Arn was mad about the parody, but it was gold.

I was pissed about the Kamala thing. If Umaga was going to squash Kamala why not just do it at the PPV where he already squashed Eugene, Duggan, and Doink? I hope Bastion Booger is next.

The Cena-RVD match was awesome. But I knew someone was going to interfere. I figured Sabu, but whatever.

I think the next "big name" superstar to be fed to Umaga will be Kane (not Kane '97).

Somebody needs to make an animated gif of HBK doing the Shane -O Shuffle. I havent laughed that hard at any wrestling segment in years.

The skit went a bit long, but it was definately funny.

At least Mickey will keep the strap while Trish and Melina fight.

Any chance to see Trevor Murdoch is okay by me.

Brook Hogan needs to know how awefull she looked in that video. A total butter-face.

Rest of the show was blah for me. Didnt really impress me much.

I want to go slightly OT here.

How will the execs see this? Do they look at ratings feedback, crowd feedback (including ''noise'') or will they have their own pre-determined agenda on ''tweaking'' the characters

He DID have that match with Shawn Michaels about two weeks after his debut...and I actually thought it was kinda good (who's to blame for that, I don't know).

Also, what kind of prude wouldn't hit Brooke Hogan? Let's get real here, guys. Her face looked a little better than usual last night, but it's the BODY. THE BODY, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD. I didn't see "wooden" at all in her moves. She used that stomach pretty well. This reminds me of that picture (damn..wish I could find it) of some internet blog where some nerd goes "she's not my type" about a hot famous chick, and they show his horrific picture in the corner.

Quite frankly.

I think the issue is not so much Brooke and/or her talent (however much it is) -- but the fact that it's the IWC and her "last name" is Hogan.

No. Actually there is a large percentage of people who dont believe that every single female with over-whitened teeth and blonde hair are AUTOMATICALLY beautiful.

Of course her stomach was used. Its too big to NOT be used.

I am not saying she's fat, but if you are going to be that thick, dont wear a half shirt.

And, we know she can sing, why the half rap, half singing crap? Just put out a decent song.

With all due respect to those who think that the DX skits are hilarious, did you not watch wrestling in '97 and '98? Don't get me wrong, it was funny then. It was classic stuff. But we have seen the same recycled shit since then. It's beyond stale. I was excited when DX reunited, and want to like this angle, but come on, we have seen this stuff over and over again. Impersonations? Check. Midgets? Check. Girls with DX bras? Check. Spray paint? Check. I did chuckle a time or two during the skit last night, but I couldn't help but wonder why they just can't evolve the gimmick a bit so it is not so dated. This whole DX reunion and the rebirth of ECW (which I want to like) just screams that they are absolutely out of ideas.
