I really would have brought out RVD in that opening segment, I know it would have taken away from Helmsley outsmarting everybody, but the crowd really wanted to pop big for something and it would have served RVD a lot better to show up there rather than the middle of the show.

Mickie James doesn't make a hot Trish.

... and I was more interested in seeing Flair fight the Cuban guy than Jamal v.2

Mickie James pretends she is Trish Stratus. Is this suppose to be like Mike Davis of the Rock 'n Roll RPMS in 1984 in Florida thinking he was Dusty Rhodes and actually winning matches.
For one brief, fleeting moment, they show Flair/Steamboat Best of 3 Falls, then Flair comes out. Somewhere in the back of my mind, I was hoping Flair was going to say 'Steamboat, one more time'.
Chavo quits? Does this mean he sells Amway or does Kerwin White become a Minuteman at the border?
Vince books God? Does anyone know what happens if God can't pass a drug test? I mean, God did create the drugs, so God could be taking them. Please, for the love of God, make sure that the print ads in the USA Today before the next PPV highlight that God is booked on the show.
If they do it right, they probably can get a month or two of hot crowds out of the Cena angle. As long as people pay to cheer him or boo him, as long as they are paying and reacting, it's better than them flipping the channel and keeping the money in their pockets.

Great opening segment, with several good one-liners. Cena was good in his role....You can tell the Spirit Squad is another one of Vince's pet projects- first, appearing in nearly all of his segments on RAW, then winning the belts over Show and Kane...."Biggest upset in WWE history," Joey? I don't think so. For me, it'll always be, "Horowitz wins! Horowitz wins!"....

Sounds like, as expected, RVD will cash in at ONS....Well, I was a day early with the Carlito turn....I was really hoping last night was the end of the Vince/Shawn feud. And the look on Shane's face when Vince said "the product of my semen" was hilarious....The woman's match was brutal, but short....Uh-oh- I don't like the looks of this, with Chavo dedicating another match to Eddy....

Chavo/Shelton was okay. Again, I don't like where this "Chavo quits" thing is going....Jamal? Is that you? Interesting angle, to say the least, but Estrada took a little too long in his talking....Wow, they showed Ozzie? Interesting, given his TNA connections....The main event was pretty good, and opens up some possibilities in the coming weeks.

Cut-and-paste from the previous thread:

What Vince said, is proof that he (and Steffo and the writing crew) has snapped.

I laughed at the references to Conan and He-Man (Triple H), Skeletor (Edge), and She-Ra (Cena). What should Lita be, Red Sonja? Not to mention Trips and Edge punking out each other.

I marked for the DX reference.

The Spirit Squad, new Tag Team Champs? But which members hold the belts? It can't be all of them!

It should be all of them, and The Mean Street Posse > Spirit Squad. At least their theme song was.

Well, another decent heel (Carlito) turned face by cheering smarks. Wonderful.

What I didn't get is the look on Cena's face after HHH started to beat up on Edge. Did he forget that last night happened?

I don't get why they made Cena look like an idiot by making that face and then acting as if HHH was all of a sudden his pal.

So, I guess it looks like that the Spirit Squad would defending their belts under the "Freebird Rule". I was just 6 years old when that rule was enforced.

What was Triple H's new theme song called? I think that he should retire "The Game" in favor of that new song.

It's called "Bow Down to the King" by Motorhead. It will be released on the new "Wreckless Intent" album on May 23, 2006. And yes, it does kick alot of ass, and fits him well now.

That was a strange ending. The WWE is playing up the "tougher than he is smart" part of Cena; I guess the toughness angle is admirable, but no one is going to want to cheer and get behind Cena if he gets clearly outsmarted and embarassed too often.

Mickie and Trish is the best angle in the WWE since Austin's heel turn (was that in 2001), and I hope it still continues to gain steam.

Shane's "WTF?" look when Vince referred to him as the product of his semen (did he call it his "living water" at one point also???) was classic and completely redeemed that segment for me.

Jamal/Umaga is going to be interesting when he becomes the Smackdown color man in around 13 years.

Yeah ok, Vince books God in a match at Backlash, but I'm still dying to see Kurt Angle getting his wish against Jesus and making him tap.

The more and more I see it, the more and more I absolutely love Carlito's backbreaker.

Now, I wont ever pretend that I'm a big fan of Trips, but the opening segment with him, Edge, and Cena (who seemed to love sticking it to the haters that he was still the champ) was great. Edge & Trips oneupmanship was awesome.

Coming off how much I loved the Mickie/Trish match, having her dress and look as much like Trish as possible just didn't really work. She's a great psycho character without needing to resort to that.

Didn't get the whole Chavo quitting after losing to Shelton (who looked spiffy with the shades), but then again, it's not like it makes a huge difference. I mean, Eddie was great, but it's really put a damper on Chavo having any type of success outside of paying tribute to Eddie every match.

HOLY CRAP MOMENT OF THE NIGHT!!! RVD actually got some mic time....my jaw hit the damn floor.

Headshrinker Jamal..my GF swore up and down it was Rosey...the Cuban guy is cool, but dude, cut down the name a little. Armando Estrada is more than sufficient...or even Alejandro Estrada, which has a better ring to it.

Great post-Mania Raw...but I wonder...when does the lottery talk heat up??

What would've happened if CM Punk came out in his hometown of Chicago and attacked Flair instead of a returning Jamal? Would people in the front row start banging the security wall to the theme of his music?

I was telling people I was watching with "If this is CM Punk, I'm giving WWE some money right now."

And they gave me Jamal.

It's really just funny isn't it. If you could ever have named a more perfect, opportune, and brilliant way to debut and bring in CM Punk, it would be that one. It would've been that way, and it would've been memorable and significant, and it would probably be the most talked about thing (on the net at least) for weeks. I mean RAW was in Chicago tonight, right? So Punk would've definitely gotten a reaction.

It indeed would've been great. However, I'm not sure he'd get a big reaction, as I think fans on the 'net tend to overestimate how many people know who C.M. Punk is. That, and I think that they still have some reluctance with him, although using him during Cena's entrance was a good show of faith. I wonder if that means he gets a Wrestlemania payoff...

Well, as we've seen, that's now part of his character ("I let Eddy down, man"). As much as I like Chavo, at this point in his career it's basically all that's left for him. He's still good, but not where he was in the late nineties. I did like, though, that the Chicago crowd made it a point to chant "Chavo" a few times.

On a sidenote, as much as I've been uncomfortable with them using Eddy's name and reputation for the purpose of furthering angles, I found Chavo's performance on Unlimited to be heartwrenching. That was some fine acting, and I'm not being sarcastic.

I really enjoyed Rodriquez's Estrada's mic work, and while the debut of "Ugama" (?) was disappointing, in retrospect it's good that they have a character that over the top to be his mouthpiece. And is it me, or has Jamal dropped some weight since the last time he was with WWE?

Overall, I thought it was a pretty enjoyable show. WWE is smart in how they're playing off the mixed reaction, as it gives me a reason to watch Cena. Has a promotion ever utilized a top face's apparent unpopularity in this fashion (without turning him)?

True enough, but how would that look for them for him to get a big reaction in his hometown, and then the next week, go to somewhere where's he's relatively unknown, and not have nearly the impact? I mean I've heard of the guy, but if he was to come up to me and say, "Hi, I'm CM Punk." I wouldn't know who he was...

And after stealing that bit from Tony Kornheiser, I officially watch wayy t0o much PTI.

I have a feeling that this is their way of trying to seperate Chavo from Eddie. If they make him a half crazed heel again, because of this he might be able to start wrestling matches without Eddie's name being chanted through the whole thing.

Or it could just be a way to bring back Kerwin White.

Thought this was the best RAW in a long time. The opening segment was gold all around, and I particularly enjoyed Cena getting on the mike and sticking it to the crowd first thing. I'm curious to see how far their going to take "HHH is the king of kings." I mean, at first it was just an off-hand thing he said, then he kept saying it, then other people started saying it, and now it's his themes song. Seriously, they gotta know Jesus is the King of Kings, right? The new Mickie IS Trish element of their feud is pretty awesome, and what I liked best is if you looked close at Mickie, you saw she did a truely terrible job of dying the back of her head. I think it's a really nice touch to have her character be the kind of nut who thinks she can become someone by not only imitation, but by not-particularly-good imitiation. I agree that the Spirit Squad should defend their titles via Freebird rules. Finally, I'm okay with Wild Samoan Jamal. Why? I've just got a soft spot for crazy samoans. I can only hope he does the spot where someone smacks his head into the turnbuckle, but his head's so hard it doesn't faze him.

Mine too. I forget sometimes *why* they never give him promo time - glad to have my memory refreshed. No idea what he was talking about, but he said "GLASS CEILING~!" which makes him cool. About 3 years to late to the party; even the IWC doesn't buy into it all that much anymore. But hey, he's OUR V.D.!!! Betcha he's glad he didn't bail to TNA!
