Last night was definitely a night of screwed-up heel and face behavior. Besides Cena, who seems to be some sort of edgy tweener now, I think the crowd didn't really know what to do with Edge, who's supposed to be a big heel yet got a major pop for beating Cena at NYR (as I understand -- I didn't see it) and promises live sex in the middle of the ring. Meanwhile, who the hell is Ric Flair to interrupt live sex? Remember what Cena told Vince? He may be pissed at Edge, he said, but he certainly wasn't going to interrupt something as great as that. And Ric Flair will? Just to stroke his own ego about how he's a better lover than anybody, apparently? (He also made some vague comments about Edge sullying the world championship, but I thought Flair invented sex talk from the world champion.)

In case you can't tell, I liked the live sex. That was absolutely the farthest it could possibly have gone, and I'm shocked it went that far. (I also liked that in storyline terms, Edge promised live sex and obviously really intended to deliver on it, rather than some stupid copout.) Yeah, it was a little awkward, but it could have been a lot more awkward, and honestly, what can you expect? They're not porn stars.

I have never understood and continue not to get the Internet hate toward Lita, who I think is a very good talker, a pretty good wrestler (when she used to wrestle) and above average in the Diva looks department.

I continue to love the Shelton's Mama angle. Screaming managers are awesome. Everybody is always all nostalgic for an era when half the matches had screaming managers at ringside, so what's the problem? Mama is necessary because Shelton has proven over and over again that he can't really get over on his own charisma -- and he's supposed to be a heel, or getting there, and there's a serious danger of him being a Dean Malenko/Chris Benoit no-reason-he's-a-heel heel. People wonder why Shelton's push was killed. Hey, I love the guy, too, but I don't pretend not to know. Shelton would come out to crowd indifference, would win them over by the end of the match, then would come out the next week to crowd indifference. I see him going places now.

Well, see, she's neither of those things. I'll grant she's gotten a little better on the mic, but she's nowhere near a good talker. As for a wrestler, she had a decent moonsault & hurricanrana when she was the Hardyz's valet, but those got progressively worse the more she wrestled, to the point where it looked like she was going to either hurt herself or her opponent (or both). Outside of those 2 moves, she was pretty bad in the ring.

I assume Cena will claim he didn't interfere in the Live Sex, but instead saved Flair. Otherwise, he has no RR title shot. Or, Vince CAN take it away from him only for Lita to badger Edge into defending her honor after the FU. I know, Cena's getting his shot no matter what, but he did break Vince's rule in an era of Zero Tolerance. My other nagging thought of the Live Sex bit is that there's no way Lita or Edge would pick that background music. Great lingerie set for her, by the way.

Shelton's Mama is funny. I was one of the gabillion who poo-pooed the idea, but they managed to find someone who can take the role and run with it. She's in danger of outshining Shelton already. Bonus points for the Homer Simpsons mu-mu. I hope she brandishes a rolling pin in the future.

Carlito (or if you're Styles, "Carlita") showed a little more energy last night, and I'm hoping it's a sign that he's developing a moveset beyond the basic suplexes and chinlocks. He needs to use the Falling Backbreaker every match because it's his signature move so far.

Now, where's that new GM?

One could argue by the time Cena made his appearance, the live sex act had already been interrupted by Flair, Cena was just quick to jump at the opening, and not jeopardize his rematch.

Talk about Cena, talk about Flair both challenging Edge for the title. Any thought that with last night's conchairto, Flair may be MIA for a while, causing him to forfeit the IC championship and leading to a tournament? That would let Edge-Cena take center stage until the Rumble, and Flair afterwards, either as a new challenger or a grudge match as the man who cost Edge the title he fought so long for.

Losing the title is exactly what Cena needed. Now, he has a purpose, which is why I think people weren't getting behind him.

Despite the crap, this actually sounded like a good show. I like that they're bringing out Flair to feud with WWE Champion Edge, who also has a feud with Cena. That sets up an interesting dynamic and the odd possibility that Flair could concievably win the WWE Title (which would make for a Flair/HHH WM title match, which Flair should win and then retire).

As much as I want to hate the Shelton/Mrs. Benjamin thing, it's actually kind of funny.

Link doesn't work but if you search the site it's still there...apparently they had a little bit of Janet Jackson go on and caught it before it hit the airwave.

Yeah, as I type this it's at http://youtube.com/w/Lita-on-RAW?v=qzCbvSWwp90 . I converted the file from slv to mpg so I could save it on my computer.

(From PWTorch.com)

>Raw drew a 4.3 rating, according to WWE.com, which is touting the increase of 16 percent from last week. The peak rating for the sex scene at the end with Lita and Edge was 5.2. That was the highest rated segment since Batista signed his WrestleMania contract on Feb. 21, 2005 which drew a 5.0.<

I guess now we will be seeing more of this type of stuff on future RAW's.

The 16% increase could be attributed to this being the first RAW not to go up against football since the week before Labor Day (FSU/Miami on Labor Day, NFL the next 17 weeks, Bowl games last week). If they didn't start to have a ratings spike between this week and Mania, the company would be in trouble. Also, the previous week was a celebrated holiday, and, since during the past few years the company has discounted ratings on holidays, it is slightly disingenuous to consider an increase over a holiday to be touted.
