It's been a while, my pretties...

Anywho as usual, I go to the tape after work to see what's up, and well, here were my knee jerk reactions:

The Eugene Segment: I--hesitantly--have to say that that was the funniest thing I've seen in a while. Regal is so great, and though I still have reservations, for the time being...I.... No, can't say it, that's how they'll get me!

HHH: Ironic ain't it when this guy's in the best segments of the week back to back on Raw? Well, as for his water bottle (which I haven't even seen before), it seems to be true what they say - it DOES take more muscles to frown than smile. Now, suck in that gut, mister!

Kane and Lita Sittin in a Tree: What can I say? I feel sorry for no woman who doesn't use self defense (on WWE TV anyway) against an unarmed man. I know where they'll go with this, and mark my words. They'll hook up. I know, I know, but I can feel it in my bones and my stomach. Gotta set my VCR for that one.

Your Required Dose of McMahon: Hi, art, bye. Will he ever get a vacation? Remember what you said about GMs protecting certain groups and how that would stop? Way to go on that, Vinnie.

Women's match: Everyone in the women's division (except Trish ironically) is pretty vanilla right now. Hell, Victoria's starting to bore me. By the way...Jazz, where are you?

Highlight Reel with No Highlights: I must say that this week's Highlight Reel was the lamest ever so far. Jericho pulling an Orton, and Matt and Lita practicing for the high school production of Silence of the Lambs. Then again, I only saw a third of that movie.

Speaking of Orton: Still yummy. And Batista? Prepare yourselves for a surefire nominee of out of context quote of the week. You know something's up when Batista's harder than HHH. Did you see him at the beginning?! Looks like he's picking up where Hunter left off.

The ME was good, but usual I suppose. I'm finicky that way. Not bad Raw but none too earth shattering. Eugene (gasp!) and HHH (the real one and the water bottle) are the MVPs for this week.

(edited by Ringmistress on 4.5.04 0529)

After a quarter of a century on this planet, there's three things I know for sure...
1)Ain't nothing like a Dirty Pair marathon on New Year's Eve.
2)I'd make a fine Mrs. HHH II.
3) I'd make an acceptable Mrs. Orton.
1400 reasons to luv me!

I could give two shits about who wins what or who taps when, watching HBK/Benoit is about as good as it gets in the ring these days. That moonsault outside the ring was just perfection. (and a damn nice catch by Benoit) These are the matches with Bret Hart that we never got to see 6-7 years ago.

Random RAW thought about Tyson Tomko:

Would it be too insensitive to give a Skinhead-looking guy referred to as a PROBLEM-solver a finisher called "The Final SOLUTION"?

I don't know if i heard it wrong and I don't have this on tape. But when Johnny Nitro came in to whisper that Vince was here did I hear HHH say "What do you want Johnny Oversell?" I SWEAR I heard this. By the way:

Computer Geek, I won't debate you on anything. I just want to clarify that I didn't mean Benoit was booked weak IN the Rumble itself, just post Rumble up to 'Mania. Now, if there's the underdog argument that's valid but I thought we'd moved on from underdog to real deal. I don't think "real deal underdog" works.

As for me being partisan, agreed. I never claimed I was going to be FAIR to Orton. I just can't stand him.

Tomko has a real chance to get huge over. Like, old school Goldberg over.

The moonsault off the top was the first time I've talked out loud to myself in some time.

And yes, the water bottle thing was hilarious.

-Edge/Tajiri/Benjamin vs. Orton/Batista/HHH- First thing I did notice was no Naitch, not even a mention of him like we won't notice. Amazing how HHH gets more heel heat without the title then with it, he gets tagged in and gets booed & "U Tap Out" chants bigtime. Really looked like they were testing how well a HHH/Edge encounter will be. Tajiri stole the segment, his offense was amazing, that back kick to Orton's head *ouch*. Batista hitting him in the neck with a forearm from the springboard standing elbow was hurtful looking... Early in the match I like Orton "student of the game" was holding Benjamin leg but knowing Benjamin has the dragonwhip kick he just dropped the leg down instead of whipping it around. Fast & good finishing sequence with Edge spear on Orton to finish the match. Tajiri looked great, Edge looked very good, Benjamin kind of looked like the forgotten man in there. But great stuff

-Conway vs. Hurricane- That's a very scary looking finisher by Conway, a swinging neckbreaker while his opponent is hanging off the ropes. The match was fine as it's setting up Conway to face Eugene.

-Kane vs. Richards- Squash! I think I got the question to the age old question, "What happens if a wrestler needs to go to the bathroom during his match". Kane rushes to the beck.

-Highlight Reel- Y2J challenges the World Champion(hmm looks at my Christian BadBlood thread). Matt Hardy is the guest & before my eyes Matt turns from Mattitude to Pussified. He made mistake & accepts that(who of us hasn't thrown a steelcage door at a loved one's face). Lita's on screen & she said she doesn't love Matt anymore & loves someone else(Which makes total sense because how she total no sold Kane's kiss last week, I mean ZERO emotion). But then she says she can't do this HELP(Now I'm all confused, was the no sell last week just Lita bad acting, no need to answer). Matt stands & watches & watches(Y2J should whisper to him, hey maybe it's a good idea to go to the back now)... The angle that never ends shows up, Tomko runs in & goes toe to toe with Y2J but Christian hits him as the two guys beat Y2J down, my little angel Trish takes her Leaf frustrations by kicking Jericho squa' in the netherlands.

-Gail vs. Victoria- The women are really breaking out the great finishers, first the Widow's Peak, now that Gail submission. To bad Gail's other 6-minutes didn't measure up, which I have to ask why are they giving a novice like Gail 6-minutes on Live TV? Gail did 3 different types of chinlocks/sleepers one right after the other. Very poor press slam that you can tell there's trouble seeing how unsteady they were & the talking. Plus Gail somehow screwed up ALL 3 knockdowns by Victoria. 1)Gail swings as well, 2)falling down early, 3) does a punch bump from a kick! WOW... And she gets a tap out win on the CHAMPION! The same Gail just a week before got DDT/pinned by Lita who's doesn't even seem active in the division now, now Gail is tapping out Victoria clean! This division right now is a total mess.

-Benoit vs. Michaels- Benoit takes a suplex from the inside to the out! Michaels with a moonsault from the top rope to the outside. HBK tights gets pulled down(Jesus would have worn underwear). German Suplex and hold for a 2. HBK breaks out the LIONTAMER (Jericho doesn't do it anymore [well only on Trish] but HBK can)... HBK escapes multi attempts from Benoit crossface or Sharpshooters. And obvious setup to a ref bump, HBK hits sweet chin music but before he can crawl on top of Benoit out comes HHH pedigree allowing Benoit to roll over HBK for the win.

-OtherStuff- Okay, Regal, Eugene and the HHH bottle was freakin hilarious. The smark in me thinks *maybe* they should have waited until Eugene is in the ring live to let the cat out of the bag, but how can I complain with HHH waterbottle. That water bottle is a better actor then 95% of the roster... Vince is in the arena very much looking forward to the main event... Bischoff makes a bunch of PPV quality matches for next week.

-Line of the Night: Lawler "Gail can be the punter for the Arizona Cardinals, their the worst team in football she'd be great for them"
-Sign of the Night: :I still love Trish"
-3Stars of the Night: 1)HBK. 2)Benoit. 3)Tajiri.- Edge and the Eugene skit needs recognition as well. Can a plastic HHH bottle be considered a star? Trish looked nicer then usual, I think it's the dress pants mmm.

An amazing 6 man tag match for the first half hour, a fantastic main event in the last half hour. A pinch of comedy with Eugene, Regal and the HHH bottle. Not much more you can ask for... A lot of interesting question come out of this show. Is Vince going to punish HHH for ruining a match he was looking forward to seeing? Maybe with a suspension? Does this set up HBK/HHH match without the title? Jericho asks for a title shot, just like Christian did last week. Can the Cage match be turned into a #1 contender match? Does next week Raw look off the charts & a 1000 times more interesting compared to Judgement Day PPV that's coming up? Redsox mention elimination chamber, I don't think they'd have 6 top guys in one match for a brand only PPV, would they?

I also heard the Johnny Oversell comment by Triple H. Not sure if it was just Hunter saying it because Nitro was reacting so heavily to Vince being there, or if it was some sort of inside dig on the guy. Either way, I wonder if Ric Flair will now yell at Hunter for saying the word "sell" on tv that marks (who have no business knowing that word) are watching. If he said Johnny Babyface or Johnny Heel, he'd REALLY be in trouble.

Personally, I had no problem with the finish of the main-event. Would I have liked to have seen a clean finish? Sure. But one thing that RAW has really been doing well lately is constantly building toward the future. As the story goes, Benoit has never beat Shawn cleanly in a one-on-one match. The ending lends to more Benoit v. Hunter v. Shawn. Now, I guess Hunter and Shawn will battle over #1 contendership as Benoit goes on to feud with Jericho or Christian or someone else. I'm sure Benoit will get the clean victory over Shawn as well. For now, let's just enjoy the long built-up storyline, because that's something WWE had been lacking in the past.

I hope someone notices that Tajiri always gets over when they give him a little push. This one won't last either, but maybe someday he'll get noticed.

Awesome main event. Especially Shawn's murder-suicide moonsault and the suplex to the floor. I like it somebody does it, not just bluffs the suplex.

I'm actually interested in a lot of the undercard angles - Jericho/Christian should be fun; I don't need the latest OVW Trade Federation Bobba Fett Clone thrown in there.

When did Gail Kim become the Meryl Streep of the divas? She sounded natural AND remembered her lines without stuttering. I don't hate Lita, but I hate that she looks (and sounds) more masculine than Matt's younger bro. She and Victoria need to lay off the arms.

Orton's Backlash afterglow has worn off. He still has shitty offense with punches and forearms that look the work of a real-life "Eugene" or Ralphie beating the crap out of Scott Farkus.

I'm glad that Orton was crucified by Foley for our smark sins, but he needs to prove that he's more than a dorm room accessory for freshmen girls to hang collages on.

edit - removed repetitive "Johnny Oversell" question.

Gail Kim may have remembered her lines, but she forgot all about the conditioning needed for wrestling matches. I thought we were watching the Big Show out there, because Gail was blown up mere minutes into the match. She was so tired that Victoria and she had to have a horrible exchange in the middle of the match that featured so many pseudo-sleeper holds.

I'm all for giving her a push, but she needs to get better prepared for these big matches.

Strangely, a Benoit/Edge vs. La Resistance tag team title main event was announced during the local ads (RAW's in San Jose next week) - given that a match for Edge has been announced on the show, though, I would presume that's out the window.

Wouldn't Eugene's match next week against Conway already put that match out the window? Just shows how the WWE booking and radio and TV adds are never in sync.

Last night was a really good show and right now there are tons of different match-ups that they can run with that would impress all fans. Its amazing that Raw next week has more matches announced then Judgment Day.

Renegade Raine says:

Jericho/Christian battle for number one contendership? Ha! Triple H/HBK battle for number one contendership? Ha! After watching last night's RAW, CLEARLY we all know who's going to be the number one contender...

(It's an unreliable host place, so it will most likely not show up.)

Anyways, not much to say this week that was already said. The opening and closing matches were good. I almost laughed harder at the Kane/Lita scene more than the Eugene montage...and I don't think that's a good thing.

Damn...you'd think with all the times the Hi-light Reel ending in a brawl, Jericho would do SOMETHING to try to prevent it in the future.

Gail is right. Lita DID deserve that by Kane. I mean, the silly bitch didn't know how to run out of a ring! Either that, the turnbuckle just MAGICALLY drew her in.

And yes, Johnny Nitro was kawaii as usual.

Yeah, I saw that too . . .

The only thing I can say about that is: Benoit is 6'0"? yeah RIIIIIGHT.

It's mostly a little bit of number-adjusting by WWE. If you put Benoit at his real height (about 5'9"?) and HBK at his real height (6'1") then it might make sense that Shawn weighs a few more pounds.

For well-muscled men, 1 inch of height usually equals an extra 10 lbs or so. Benoit just looks so much more jacked because he's short. (his arms + legs are REALLY short)

Hmm... I liked Gail's transition from a crossface, to a reverse chinlock, to a dragon sleeper... But you're right, too many rest holds at one time.

As for the punch coming from both of them... err... I'm a big fan of thai boxing and MMA... so, I guess I didn't really notice it much.

I'm glad that they're giving Conway more ring time... Always like seeing him in there.
