A video package hyping Benoit vs. Michaels. Tonight, in the desert.

CC is by the National Captioning Institute, brought to you by World Wrestling Entertainmant, Inc. To know how they caption live events, visit their website.

Fighting evil by moonlight, winning love by daylight, never running from a real fight, because it is time to WAKE UP! It's also time for Raw, live from Phoenix, Arizona...and a Fashion Report, too!

Evolution: HHH in black iron-cross undies, Batista in black undies with arcing red flame, and Orton in red "Orton" undies with hip scrawls, wearing the IC Title, vs. Edge, in black "Edge" tights with white splats and wearing the Tag Title, Tajiri, in black pants with dragon and flaming left hem, and Shelton, in red singlet (rolled-down) with silver trim. Chad Patton is the official (but CC doesn't mention him). The crowd is all over HHH with "You tapped out" chants. The heels thoroughly work-over Edge's wrist. JR can't tell left from right. Tajiri and HHH are down in the ring, so AdBreak steals some screen time.

Cont. We're back to see Tajiri get it handed to him. Tajiri's boot to Orton's head is just...wow! Edge spears Orton->pin. A good match, main-event calibur. Everyone was made to look good, and overness/heat is liberally distributed.

In the back, Coach disses the hometown honies to Cade. Vince strolls into the scene to pimp Benoit vs. Michaels.

Smackdown! Rebound. What do you mean I can't fastforward through this - it's Smackdown!?

JR, in grey suit, white shirt, tie and black hat, and Lawler, in shiny scaled black/yellow shirt, commentate.

In Bisch's Room of Fun, Evolution is pissed; they demand satisfaction. Johnny enters and whispers into Bisch's ear (about Vince's arrival). Bisch books Batista vs. Tajiri, HHH vs. Shelton, and Edge vs. Orton for the IC Title, all NEXT week.

Rob, in sparkly blue military coat and blue "La Resistance" undies, carrying a Quebec flag, with Sylvan, in same, vs. Hurricane, in black "H" poncho, mask, and green/black tights, with Rosey. Jack Doan is the referee.

Here's some FOOTAGE! of Kane these past few weeks, as it relates to the Kane/Lita/Mattitude storyline (which a friend of mine thinks sucks ultimate dong).

Kane, in black tights with red barbedwire stripes, vs. Stevie, already in the ring, in black "SR" undies. Dark-haired Ref is the referee. Chokeslam->pin. Squash. Post-match, Kane runs to the back.

Jericho, in black/red "Jericho" silhoutte shirt and black leather pants, goateed, hosts The Hilight Reel (and pimps Benoit vs. Michaels, and challenges the winner). The guest: Mattitude, in black shirt (top two buttons undone) and blue jeans. Mattitude explains away his past transgressions, then turns to the topic of Lita, asking her out. Lita, in the back, under pressure by Kane (c'mon, you know it) tells-off Matt. C'mon, cameraman, fuck the close-up, help Lita! Mattitude watches the whole segment before heading off to save his honey.

Part2. Christian, in sleeveless black lace-up vest and blue jeans, Trish, in midrif-baring bellsleeved top and black jeans, and Tyson, in black wifebeater and black jeans, are on the stage. Christian talks smack to Jericho before Tyson goes to the ring to get himself some of Y2J. Beatdown ensues. Woah - Christian actually looks like a smarmy tough-guy.

During the break, in the back, Mattitude found Lita tied to a spinny chair. (Man, I would've been having so much fun on that thing.) This is gonna be one of those "uncomfortable" storylines.

Gail, in black trenchcoat, white bra and hotpants, with Molly, blonde, in red top and black pants. Gail...speaks? vs. Victoria, oh-so-happy, in pink see-my-boobs top, hotpants, and armwraps, wearing the Women's Title. Jack Doan officiates. (Do all these women in hotpants give you, um...hotpants?) Strange hold by Gail->submission. An average match. HOw the hell would someone break out of that hold?

FOOTAGE! of Eugene training. Regal reveals that he's gonna train viciously so Eugene will quit.

Vince has assumed the Emporer Nero position.

More FOOTAGE! of Eugene. It's a sports-training montage (montage). And, yep, Eugene is a natural.

Bisch, in grey sportscoat, black shirt and blacks, with Johnny, in black shirt with vertical grey stripes, is on the stage. He books Jericho vs. Christian! for next week - in a steel cage.

Again, the show-opening video package to hype Benoit vs. Michaels (c'mon, we're psyched already - just bring it on).

Shawn, in red chain vest, black leather chaps over red "Shawn Michaels HBK" heart tights, and black cap vs. Benoit, in black tights with blue slashes, the World Heavyweight Title and Tag Title over his shoulders. Mike Chioda is the referee in stripes (not Hebner?). Chioda pats-down the men before the match. The crowd is just simmering. Both men are down in the ring and, in mid-sentence, AdBreak interjects.

Cont. Michaels is definately working Benoit's back/neck. Shan is totally in control, but Benoit stays a hair away from defeat. Benoit gets a brief hopespot, but Shawn regains control. The crowd is strongly for Michaels. Flying elbow and tune up the band, but Benoit switches it into Germans and the crowd is behind HIM now. Benoit goes to the top but misses the headbutt. The crowd's on its feet. Michaels suplexes Benoit to the floor (in a blown spot?) and follows it up with a Moonsault from the top rope. See Shawn's ass! Benoit is on the outside, bleeding, as Shawn rolls into the ring, and AdBreak rears his ugly head again (damnit!).

Cont2. Benoit's face is bloodied as he fights out from a sleeper. Michales puts Benoit in a liontamer, but Benoit squirms to the ropes. Crossface, Michaels to the ropes. Another Crossface, and again Michales to the ropes. Sharpshooter, Michaels to the ropes. Benoit is knocked into Chioda; all men are down. Sweet Chin Music and Shawn looks to go for a cover. HHH is out to pedigree Shawn. Benoit drapes an arm and Chioda counts 3. A good match.

Overall: A good show. Do we get a Shawn/Benoit rematch due to the interference? I'm looking forward to next week.

Ok, let me be the first to say that the training montaghe with Eugene FUCKING RULED! The Triple H water bottle was the funniest thing ever. God, that was just so great on SO many levels.

I was POSITIVE during y2j's promo that he slipped and hbk was gonna go over. Anywho, i loved the show, aside from Gail Kim sucking in the ring and Lita acting so bad I long for a Steph and Linda McMahon 30min promo. The main was hot, really intense.
The best part of the show however was the Regal-Eugene training sequence. I can't believe Triple H booked himself into that. The dramatic shot of Regal...Eugene...and the Triple H squirt bottle had me in tears I was laughing so hard. Man that was great!

No connection at all between Flair being sued in Arizona and him not being on RAW in Arizona. None at all.
Of course Kane touched Lita. Did he tell her to tie herself to a chair? And, if so, how could she tie her second arm herself when her first arm was already tied?
Would have made more sense for Eugene to look bad on the training film, only to break out the moveset as a shock during his match. But, at least it was the best Regal match in a few years.
Since Gail Kim is from Korea, does that mean Hirohito will be able to have his way with her?
Nice 15-20 minute opening match. Would like to see Tajiri actually come close to getting the mist near his opponents eyes though.
Vince says nice things about Benoit? A ref bump in a World Title match helps Benoit win? Must be Bizarro World. Very good match between Michaels and Benoit, for some reason I think the cage in the Christian/Jericho match will somehow be used to begin the road to an Elimination Chamber match at the June PPV.

Agreed. The HHH bottle drama shot was the highlight of the segment. However, a close second would have to be Eugene putting Regal in the helicopter spin. That made me laugh out loud for some reason.

I was POSITIVE during y2j's promo that he slipped and hbk was gonna go over.

I thought the same exact thing. In retrospect, I assume he just wanted to mention Benoit's name first.

Did Hunter's Pedigree and Benoit's subsequent pin remind anyone of the time elapsed between Pedigree and pin during the WHC match at WrestleMania XIX?

Good show. Was really only into the ME, but nothing else was offensive.

--6 man tag - I wasn't feeling thie match at all. Pretty pedestrian, bordering on boring. Boy, HHH looked pretty pudgy. Orton's selling was good, but his offense was extremely basic. Batista had better offense in this match. Would have been nice to see Shelton get more ring time.

--wow, best Kane match ever. Get in & get out before he brings the boring.

--nice beatdown on Jericho. Mmmm, slutty Trish.

--Gail Kim was surprisingly competent in this match. Only messed up the punches towards the end, where she was going down *way* too early. Even busted out the sweet submission again.

--Eugene/Regal training segment was good. The cut to the HHH water bottle was cute. Still a lame gimmick, but Dinsmore & Regal just may pull it off.

--ME rocked, with the exception of that surprise commercial break. Ending was anti-climactic, but I guess they'll do HBK/Benoit at Bad Blood, so you don't want to job HBK clean to Benoit just yet.

Good show, now if they could only work on getting SD back up to speed.

Anyone else catch HBK yell at Benoit in the main event?

While HBK is getting up after the ref bump, he looks over to Benoit and sees he's still down, he then yells out (verrrry loudly):

"Come on...come on...Chris!"

Hilarious...

Man, RAW just continues to bring the awesomeness. Can you believe this is the same show that used to suck the big one this time last year?

Hell, the first and last match alone made this an awesome show. The six-man had me marking out, and the main-event had me seriously question whether Benoit would hold on to the title tonight. Great job from all guys involved in both matches. I must admit, coming from a man who has had some serious negativity towards Hunter, Triple H has really stepped up his game over the past few months, and I'm starting to become a fan of his. Randy Orton has also won me over during the past few months. And Batista didn't look totally out of place for once, so kudos to him.

Yes, the Eugene segment entertained me as well. When they announced the vignette I was wretching (WRETCHING, I SAY!), but the thing totally won me over. Especially the TRIPLE H BOTTLE! VIVA LA TRIPLE H BOTTLE!!! I'm still not sure if the Eugene character has any legs after a couple months. But, as for now, they're doing everything right in booking the guy, as they've gotten him over with the crowd, and make him so, while he is still "mentally challenged" outside the ring, he can totally hold his own inside the ring. Good stuff.

Just a few quick notes:

Kane v. Matt could be interesting, but Kane, Matt, nor Lita are the world-class actors needed to pull the thing off. Still, face Matt makes me happy.

I totally love the Christian/Trish pairing. I don't know why, but I do. Evil Trish is totally hot, and evil Christian is just awesome.

Victoria needs some better opponents, as Lita was horrendous in the ring, and it doesn't look like Gail Kim is an improvment at all. She should also take back Steven Richards as her manager, because I miss seeing them together.

It doesn't seem like the crowd is fully taking to Edge yet. That might take some work.

Oh, and I love Johnny Nitro. I just thought everyone should know.

And really really bad for someone with Shawn's experience level. Still, apart from that, an awesome main. Up until now Benoit was booked as a top guy. Tonight he wasn't, he was booked as a guy who couldn't beat Shawn Micahels cleanly. "Real Deal" no more. No need to tie yourself in a knot over that fact, but that's how he was booked so maybe that's a sign of the company's level of faith in Benoit. Was it just me or were the fans booing both guys during the match? Anyway, great stuff, especially the moonsault.

Tajiri is actually being properly utilized. Edge finally seems to be getting into a flow. Triple is still fat. Orton still blows in every conceivable way. And hell...that's a lot of damn matches to know about a week in advance. I don't think the writing team has been this well prepared since...then. You know what I mean.

RAW Thoughts:

Surprised to see Evolution fighting the opening contest, and a decent match to boot. Kind of interesting to see the mis-mash team go over. A bit surprised Orton did the job and not Batista....Next week seems to be a stacked show as well....Not really sure the necessity of the Conway/Hurricane match, other than for Conway's post-match promo....Poor Stevie. Now he's got WWE logo-type "SR" tights though....Well, at least they're doing something with Matt now. I'm a sucker- at first, I thought Lita was being truthful, before I realized Kane was behind it....Will the Jericho/Christian match next week be the blowoff match, or do they save that for a PPV?....

Decent women's match that didn't involve Molly. And nice submission by Gail. Boy did I get nervous when she grabbed the mic though....On one hand, I LOVED the Regal/Eugene segment (cuz it was so cheesy) and was laughing out loud, but part of me wished they'd have saved his gimmick of being a good wrestler for his debut....

Somehow during the ME, my friends and I were discussing the origins of the term "small package", and we decided (kiddingly) that it must've been an inside joke made by an announcer when a wrestler first did that move, describing his nether-regions....Real good main event, about what I expected. I think these two could put on a four-star match against each other in their sleep.

Funny what happens once Steiner and Nash left the World Title scene. Hopefully, they'll realize that with SD and stop putting the Bob Holly's and Bradshaw's in the World Title scene.

He sells stiff shots as well as (if not better than) anyone else in WWE right now. I still love that cookie-sheet sell he did at Backlash.

Soapbox time . . . . Honestly, I think Orton's got a bad case of DiCaprio syndrome or something going on - in that he's so pretty and overhyped that lots of people exaggerate his flaws to an *absolutely rediculous* level out of jealousy . . . I mean gimme a break, the kid is not that bad. (Granted, the reverse is true too, some people exaggerate his virutes for the same reason.)

You may not like him, but "blows in every concievable way?" You know - exaggerating to that degree does not help you convince anyone of anything, it just makes people not take you seriously.

EDIT: I mean, if Orton "blows in every concievable way," then how would you describe someone who gave a performance like Jackie Gayda's debut? THAT blew in every concievable way . . . and that's not exaggeration.

I am wondering if it'll change into the Rick Steiner character that was kidlike outside the ring but still good enough to be tag champ. During the first Varsity Club and into his program with Woman in WCW.

Just a general comment about Eugene . . .

Not only is this gimmick great and entertaining and all, but it may have been one of the every few ways Nick DInsmore could have possible broken into and been successful in the WWE. I mean, he does not exactly have the new "WWE look," you know?

COuld WWE have booked him differently and still gotten him over as well and as quickly?

Oooh ooh maybe just maybe they have to try and sell Chris Benoit versus Shawn Michaels as a Pay-Per-View Main Event in a few weeks? So maybe just maybe they didn't want a decisive finish? And maybe they wanted to give Shawn a reason to snap and take out Triple H so he can go film his movie?

And if Orton completely blows, you must be watching some kind of scramblevision television set where you don't see his tight punches, vastly improved timing, great facials and selling.

LIVE REPORT!

GREAT SHOW!
Before anything started, Lillian asked the crowd for a moment of silence for Tillman(some dumbass fans just can't shutup) who had a lot of signs. It seemed very appropriate.

I just saw the first match on TV and it really didn't do it justice. During the commercial break Tajiri kicked everyone in Evolution really hard and got maybe the loudest cheers of the night. The crowd loved him.

The crowd actually BOOED during the Smackdown Rebound, sentiment that I share as well.

What the hell? Just heard JR announce about the Eddies Mom angle thing. I was wondering what he was saying on the big screen.

Kane and all that stuff, WTF? Way over the top. The crowd gave Hardy shit for standing there watching the video of Lita and not running into the back(until the video was completely over).

La Resistance match was met with hostility, but damn, that finishing move looked killer!!

The Highlight reel wasn't bad. Jericho got lots of cheers when he asked for a title match. But he was totally dwarfed by Tyson.

Before her match, Gail Kim got on the mic and said that Lita got what she deserved to get the crowd heated, and it actually worked really well.

Eugene segment was awesome and the crowd loved it.

Mr. McMahon came and sat in a skybox when Bischoff came out. He looked like Caesar up there! But for some reason, he left before the Title Match (and they turned off the lights to that skybox). A couple of my friends were in the two skyboxes next to him... Bastards....

Title match was totally a MOTYC. The crowd was totally split between HBK and Benoit. Benoit got the loudest chants, but HBK got the most numerous. I never thought HBK could win the match going in, but damn I totally got lost in that match. Tremendous wrestling.

After the broadcast, Benoit stumbled out and Triple H left slowly. He walked backwards holding his arms, like, oops sorry, and signaled with his fingers, "this close". He then clapped and exited. Shawn stood up and got lots of cheers. They played his music, and kissed his hand and waved and did his little bowing before God pose.

Lillian thanked us and it was over.

Man I've been really really lucky when it comes to live shows. I've only been to 3 shows(cuz of the former Oregon testing laws), WMXIX, SummerSlam 03 and this RAW. I guess I just have the magic touch.

Oh BTW, sign of the night, there was a little boy maybe 9 years old holding a big sign that said, "Trish Will U B My Girl?" Couldn't beat it. I unfortunately got lazy and didn't make my "Batista Stole My D-Bol", but they probly wouldn't show it.

Oh one more BTW, JAYJAYDEAN, I wore a Green Ducks shirt that I flaunt on camera when Benoit gets thrown over the ropes. I wore it for you and JR!
