Surreal moment of the night; the fans using the USA chant in support of Benoit against Conway. It at least gave me a little smile.

Nitro theme was neat.

Week by week, Foley's promos remind me of why I was, and still am a huge fan of the guy. In terms of pure storytelling, he's leaps and bounds beyond Orton, who really is starting to look lamer and lamer week in week out.

When is he going to defend that IC title belt, anyway?

I thought the IC Title on the line at Backlash against Foley.

It only breaks the count if Shelton rolled back out again.

As for "Eugene", if Hogan returns to give him a pair of "Magic Slippers", I might seriously consider turning the channel...

Congratulations to Randy, on nearly killing Shelton Benjamin with a simple toss to the barricade. Just the baby steps of improvement eh? Oh yeah, and he sure was over... despite the chants not quite matching the intention of his character.

Eugene just comes across as a George Steele 2k4. Have to admit I cracked up at his Bushwhacker impersonation. Having him be good and focused when in the ring does sound like a good idea..its sort of Waylon Mercy-ish. I think Regal can do well with this character.

Michaels once again proves why he's the most charismatic man on the roster. I almost feel sorry for people who can't appreciate his unlimited abilities. How many guys can steal(or stop!) the shows without even wrestling in them?

My intent on buying Raw tickets for the Chicago show next week hinged on this Raw being a good one. I'm leaving the credit card in my wallet. As much as I'd like to see the 8-man live, I don't know if a long Highlight Reel segment and whatever they intend to do with Eugene in these early stages just doesn't scream "SPEND MONEY ON ME!"

Did they set up a Backlash match for Shelton? I'm not sure what, if anything, they've got planned for him after these wins.

Didn't see the whole show, but I love that Shelton is stepping up to HHH and doesn't appear intimidated.
I just don't think "Shelton Benjamin" is a good wrestler name.
Maybe he can say his full name is Shelton Oliver Benjamin and call himself S.O.B.

I have to say I really don't miss all the dueling GM stuff with Bischoff and Austin. Hope they give that a rest.

Foley promo was good but LONG. I like how he uses real life and dates, but I think I know more about Mick Foley's life than any other wrestler or celebrity (his kid's names, ages, favorite holidays, theme parks, etc.)

Eugene is destined to fail. Even if they make him capable when he gets in the ring, it's just a terrible, groan inducing gimmick. It's one of those gimmicks that makes you embarrassed to be watching wrestling when a friend of yours walks in the room when that character is on the screen. What will probably happen is, after they realize it's failed in 2 or 3 months, "Eugene" will go away and his clean shaven and short haired brother Nick will debut with the company.

I usually see people talk about how the WWE is becoming more like the defunct WCW every day. I usually just roll my eyes and read on, but I now know that I also possess this thought.

When Nitro was at its worst for me, it was when the entire night was SO predictable in the match department. You knew who was going to go over every time. This is what Raw felt like for me last night. Rhyno and Tajiri weren't going to win their matches. Hardy and Conway had even less of a chance to pull off the upset. Lita being the first woman introduced kinda tipped you off to the winner of the "unpredictable" battle royal.

The only mild upset for me was the Shelton countout win, and that was just as anticlimatic as it gets (I blame Ross and Lawler for not playing up the ref's count more). By the end of the night, I was depressed with the show because it just wasn't fun to watch.

Top it off with a horrible waste of Regal with "Eugene" and you have a lackluster Raw. And I DID miss Austin, because his appearances usually made for at least interesting television.

I just thought he looked incredibly goofy, esp. after they showed the clip of him spasming while Benoit had Johnny Nitro in the Crossface last week.

Perhaps Eugene will develop a liking for his new manager and come out to the tune 'I Want To Be, a Regal-Maniac, a Regal-Maniac that's me'.
As for when Regal was re-introduced, I thought Eric was going to make him have to keep his former House-Boy Tajiri under control for what he did last week. Instead, Regal ends up in the Eugene angle, and Tajiri gets stuck in a feud with Coachman. Thus, 1 potentially interesting angle gets scrapped to create 2 crap angles.
Considering they were in Texas and Austin didn't appear after a brief cameo appearance last week, perhaps Vince and Co. are trying to distance themselves quickly in case any legal issues arise rather than having him in the spotlight should charges be filed.

There's 2 hours of my life that I'll never get back ...

The only thing remotely entertaining was the Foley promo ... I thought he was going to pull the Cactus Jack shirt out of the box.

So is Tajiri going from being a cruiserweight champion on Smackdown to a feud with Coach on RAW? How sad ...

Shawn Michaels just came across as a toolbag ... it was funny back in his non-Christian DX days, but now it's just lame.

And Eugene ... oh geez ...

Are the RAW tag titles even valid now? Is there ANYONE to defend them against?

-HHH/Benjamin interview- HHH goes all crazy about how last week was a fluke like Benoit win was a fluke and both can never happen again. Cue Benjamin music, which is slightly on the generic side. Shelton says lets do it again, HHH says "naaa lets not". Benjamin says "coooome on" HHH says "alright"

-Benoit vs. Conway- *looks at watch* World Champion wrestling now? Now Conway is from Quebec, and Benoit who's born in Montreal, raised in Edmonton now being called from Atlanta?. My favorite new dude Johnny Nitro makes an appearance (with theme that I didn't connect at first) with his arm in a sling but he will ref this match anyways... Oh man there's a "USA" chants, the WWE audience IS that stupid aren't they? They forgot that the past 3 years Benoit has been said to be from Canada. Benoit hits a GERMAN suplex(Better CHANGE that too WWE!), normal good ol' fashion AMERICAN suplex on Conway who knocks into Nitro, as Nitro falls out of the ring. La Rez hits a swank little double team, kind of a lift up swinging neckbreaker, but no REF! One comes from the back but Benoit kicks out hits the AMERICAN Crossface and Conway taps out.

-Jericho vs. Hardy- Ha, Jericho is such a lying hypocrite piece of crap, 2 years ago he says "I moved to the states but I will NEVER say I'm anything but Canadian". Is Manhattan a Manitoba suburb? Maybe THIS is a way to get over without the need to bring any originality to his persona... Trish & Christian walks out with large sofa-chair thingy as they sit & watch once again right out of Stephanie/HHH with Jericho feud, how bland. 3-minute match as Hardy gets caught in the Walls of America.

-Benjamin vs. HHH- Flair comes out & walks up to Lillian(be careful Lillian for anything spinning), he's the special ring announcer & Lawler wants him to announce every week (ah I hate you Lawler, YOU TOO Redsoxnation! Lillian cant' be replaced by ANYONE). Batista is one big timekeeper, Orton as trainer?. Lawler talks about Benjamin hometown (don't worry let him turn into a mid-card heel, we'll make up a Canadian city for him). OOh Batista rings the bell like a pro... Ouch Benjamin lands on his neck as Orton throws him into the barricade as fans question Orton sexuality. They battle to the outside, Benjamin throws HHH into the ring post and sneaks in for the countout win. See Flair is a bad announcer he's not announcing the winner. Evolution beat the holy heck out of Shelton as Benoit/HBK/Foley eventually FINALLY comes out for the save.

-Battle Royal-Saw Lita come out I knew she was winning, she has the Bagwell "I'm winning/losing" look depending on the outcome, this week she looked happy she's winning. I'd take a Stacy win over Lita. We come back everyone eliminated. WHY? D. Renegade could be right or as Lita is getting pushed you can't show any decent women wrestlers to see how outclass Lita is... Sad seeing all these girls taking bumps in clip form. Lita if you can't punch learn another strike. Lita tries chops & makes those look weak. Lita s*cks, Trish tries to kick da sh*tty wrestling off Lita with a stiff kick. Lita wins as the division goes down the tubes. Why not Trish/Vic, you give Vic a big win over a major heel on PPV. Naa Trish needs to be made look dumb in the PPV & the most undeserving woman to be in the ring, let alone champ will win the belt. Makes me ill! Oh, Molly being treated just grand as she shaves her head & gets nothing in return.

-Christian vs. Tajiri- Nothing of anything happened in this match, it focused on Coach problems with Tajiri. Coach vs. Tajiri at the PPV?... Seeing how nothing happened in this match, I'll talk about Christian and Trish's chat backstage. Something seems wrong, 2 weeks in a row Christian wasn't on screen to defend Trish in any way. Somethings up.

-Kane vs. Rhyno- Rhyno fat ass broke the 2nd rope. Kane wins, Edge runs out with Britney Spears Kane. Kane gets up and Edge tries the Spears again but gets meet with a boot. Kane gets a chair and goes set up Edge's casted hand but then decided hey why not break the other one and sets it up with his good hand. But Edge escapes and hits Kane with a cast... Is this injury legit? Everything Edge does he breaks something. "Memo to Edge: Don't do anything". This is one piss poor return from a year long injury.

-Bischoff/GoodGuys/Evolution confrontation- HBK had me laughing with his principal chatter backstage (HBK reads my Raw Review last week about Tajiri going to the principal office. I got influence, or not)... Bischoff ask Benoit, Foley and HBK to come out and make a 8-man tag with Benjamin vs. Evolution next week. HHH comes out and motions for his mates to come out as we wait (they are coming from behind guys) and wait and waits. Oh there they are. It's a numbers game as Evolution cleans the ring from those babyfaces. On a sidenote, Foley is wearing relax-fitting jeans, I don't think I've ever seen Foley in jeans.

-OtherStuff- Well Eugene needs to be discussed. I'm such a fan of Regal's acting, it was great to see him on TV and anything he's associated with turns way better then it has any right to be. But I have a real personal problem with making fun of people with learning disabilities. I have no idea how they can make this work even with Regal... That's one amazing backstage promo by Foley. Talking about the past, brining in current events with the "The Passion" comment. That's a PPV hype promo if I've ever seen one. Yeah Xpac Army I also thought Mankind mask as well

-Line of the Night: Foley "I’m gonna bring on the kind of bleeding usually reserved for special effects teams in Mel Gibson biblical epics” - Ross/Coach exchange about Lenscrafters is right up there too.
-Sign of the Night: "HHH, only wimps tap out"
-3Stars of the Night: 1)Foley. 2)HBK. 3)Trish- Just for the stiff kick!

With the exception of Foley/Orton, none of the PPV matches are interesting at all. Edge/Kane, why should we care. Jericho v. Christian/Trish, another WM rematch. Why does Christian want this match, what's in it for him, this angles poor. Victoria/Lita, Victoria isn't on TV for 3 weeks, Lita hasn't been on TV in ages as well. Why are they having a face/face match? Why give Lita a title shot and not allow Victoria to even try to get over vs. a real legit heel?... World title match, WM was fantastic do we really need a return match with the exact same guys? This Benoit from Atlanta thing can really turn bad, they are hyping on TSN meet Benoit as his plane touches down & a meeting with the Mayor, wouldn't be surprised if he's meet with "You Sold Out" chants. Speaking of that Y2J is now states he's from Manhattan, just stupid, hope it bites him in the ass. Not a good Raw, all matches were short and average to poor

Two comments.

First, I think it's pure genius that Jericho and Benoit have labeled themselves as being from "Manhattan" and "Atlanta" recently. What's the rule of thumb? Canadian wrestlers get treated poorly in Canadia!! Or Canada, whatever they call it up there. So Vince will be going down the line, looking for who to embarass ... "hmmm, Hardy's from NC, can't do him. There's another NC, there's Manhattan, there's Atlanta ... darn it, no one ... ahhh, here it is: Christian and Trish. Note to self, they bite it hard at Backlash. Oh, and I guess let's let Benoit keep the belt, since those Canadians won't care one way or the other." Pure brilliance.

I missed yesterday's Raw so I didn't see the introduction of Eugene, but did anyone else see the episode of Just Shoot Me with the "special" character? Turns out he had simply pretended to be "special" for a number of years just so he didn't have to work, could sit around and play video games, and got all his whims taken care of. "Chicken pot, chicken pot, chicken pot piiiiiiiie!!" lol. Might be an interesting way of going with this, especially if protests come and they want to evolve the angle away from the handicap.

Donny!
I wasn't really a huge "Just Shoot Me" fan, but that episode was one of the funniest among ALL the sitcoms I've seen (Seinfeld and Simpsons included.)
This could actually work. He could use his "special" status to get pity from the GMs and wrestlers and they "let" him win. He'd wink to the fans, cause they're in on it. The con goes on till he starts racking up the wins and gets himself a title shot. The champ (heel) goes easy on him, even laughing, 'till mid-match "Eugene" starts busting out the moves and beats up the champ. He wins and cuts a promo on the suckers who fell for his act. This could work for a heel or face.
Maybe for a heel.
Like the "Cowboy" Bob Orton sympathy cast that every fan knew was only there as a weapon.
(Eric Cartman --the ultimate wrestling heel- greedy, fat, manipulative.)
Ok, just rambling...

I watched this last night. Pleasantly surprised it was in HD. Also pleasantly surprised that the 60 minute documentary is very good. I'd forgotten how agile he was in 1995, throwing dropkicks and flying off the top rope in WCW.
