FOOTAGE! of Benoit, Shawn challenging Benoit, Bisch booking the match, and the Tag match finish all from last week.

Fighting evil by moonlight, winning love by daylight, never running from a real fight, because it is time to WAKE UP! It's also time for Raw, live from Topeka, KS...and a Fashion Report, too!

Lita, in a cyan mesh shirt over navy-blue bra and tassled black jeans, and Victoria, in yellow top, arm-wraps, and hotpants, wearing the Women's Title (hugging a shy chubby boy) vs. Molly, a curly brunette, in magenta/white/black top and black pants, and Gail, in stringy black top and hotpants. Chad Patton is the official. Again Molly is de-wigged. Lita DDT's Gail for the pin. A nice match. Post-match, Kane strides to the ring to get him some of Lita. Kane likes the punky girl, even wanting to plant a smooch on her, but she gets away.

In the back, Lita runs...into Mattitude. Matt comforts her, then gets his ass kicked by Kane. Who's the dark-haired ref in the pull-apart?

In the ring Coach, in black shirt (top three buttons open), black pants, and backwards cap, talks smack about local sports teams. Tajiri, in black pants with dragon and flaming left hem, interrupts. Man, that is such a small arena. Tajiri...speaks...engrish? Coach orders Chinese food, so Tajiri kicks some knee. HHH comes out, laughs at Coach, and hits the ring, in white shirt (top two buttons open) and black pants. HHH low-blows Tajiri and grabs the mic. HHH bitches about being held down and is ready to use Tajiri as an example, but forth spews the green mist. HHH does much writhing.

In Bisch's Room of Fun, a vision-impaired HHH complains to a plant. Bisch books HHH vs. Tajiri. Later, HHH confronts a lamp.

Lawler, in shiny red shirt and JR, in black suit and hat, commentate. Eugene, in white jacket with red trim and blue undies, with Regal, joins commentary.

Rob, already in the ring, in blue fleur-de-lis "La Resistance" undies, with Sylvian, vs. Rhyno, in black "Rhyno" singlet. The dark-haired ref officiates. Ha - Eugene gets smarky about the Pat Patterson IC bit (congrats, Excalibur05). Throughout the match, Eugene plays around the announce area, eventually setting-off some pyro. Gore -> pin. An average match.

In the back, La Res demands a match from Johnny Weekly. William, with Eugene in tow, protests, but Johnny books Eugene vs. Rob in two weeks (time for Regal to prepare Eugene). Meanwhile, an omniscient and unflappable Todd interviews Edge and Benoit. Shawn interrupts, talking smack to Benoit.

Christian!, in white tights with black "C"s on green crests, with Trish in bhite shirt over black top and grey jeans, and Tyson, in white wifebeater and black jeans, vs. Adbreak.

Cont. vs. Chrsitain! humiliating Jericho, vs. Grand Master Sexay, in black jacket and black/white jeans (with bells). Squash. Post-match, Jericho comes out to get some licks in on Christian and Trish.

HHH, in black iron cross undies, vs. Tajiri. Chioda is the match refree. On the outside, Tajiri jumps the steps (rather than get thrown into them). "Bedry" for "Pedigree", CC? Come on - you've got to have some kind of standards, fellas. A missed mist allows a pedigree -> pin. Average match.

Kane, in black tights with red barbedwire stripes, vs. Mattitude, in sleeveless blue "MHV1" tshirt and white pants with silver pattern and black pockets. Patton is the official. Kane is ready to deliver the Tombstone when Lita runs out to beg for Matt. Back to the kissyface, as Kane actually lands the lips. Kane then walks away; Mattitude by countout? Squash.

Lawler is in the ring with the Divas catalogue. Sigh. Stacie comes out, in tied-off denim shirt and denim miniskirt (with pink bra and undies). Harley Race looks pretty good for his age. Oops, Randy Orton, in black longlseeved polo shirt and khakis, carrying the IC belt, comes out to cut a promo. Randy spits in Harley's face, and Shelton, in his red singlet (straps down) runs out to avenge. Hey, Shelton has newer music (I liked the last tune better).

'Cuz it sucked so much the first time, here's some FOOTAGE! of last week's Smackdown.

In the back, Batista and Flair get psyched for their match.

Flair, in purple sequined "Nature Boy" robe, black "RF" undies thereunder, and Batista, in black undies with arcing flame, vs. Edge, in black "Edge" tights with pink splats, his left arm in a cast, wearing the Tag Title and Benoit, in red tights with black slashes, carrying the Tag Title and the World Heavyweight Title. Mike Chioda is the referee. Edge is writhing in pain on the outside, so Adbreak gets some attention.

Cont. Benoit gets the hot tag, and quickly becomes the face in peril. After much back-and-forth, Edge hits the spear on Flair for the pin. A nice match. Post-match, HHH comes out to destroy the faces. Then Shawn comes out to nail Benoit with a chair AND toss HHH. Later, a recovered Benoit sharpshoots Shawn. There is much tension.

Overall: A good show. Lawler was on this week.

Hee hee. I liked Eugene on commentary:

"French-Canadian! French-Canadian! Pat Patterson, first Intercontinental Champion, Rio De Janeiro! French Canadian!"

10 seconds later...

"I like the flag. It's blue!"

Also, did Matt forget his sunscreen. He looked a bit burnt. Or was it just the weird lighting?

A few thoughts:
With the green mist remnants still around his face, we might finally have proof that Trip is the Missing Link's long lost bastard child.
I'm still not crazy about Eugene, but if they have him and Regal replace Lawler and Ross it would be a vast improvement.
A bald wrestler pushes a woman around and then forces her to kiss him. See, Austin might be gone, but his memory will live on. And, its nice to know Jim Ross finds that behavior abhorrent.
He might be near 70, but I'll take Harley in a shoot fight over Orton any day of the week. And, why waste Harley on Orton when he could have played mind games from ringside against longtime foe Flair? And, since Harley has now mysteriously gone from 7 to 8 time World Champ, does that mean the Australia/New Zealand double switch with Flair is considered official?
Very good tag title match, particularly liked the unusually long face heat segment. Nice change of pace from the usual formulaic tag matches.

RAW Thoughts:

Can't complain about the ladies tag match: it was short, and there wasn't much of Lita in the match....Hey! Matt Hardy has something to do!....Cool Tajiri/Trips segment, something you wouldn't expect to see....Pretty funny with Helmsley thinking a plant was Bischoff backstage....You know you're in a bad way when your match is a backdrop for EUGENE HIJINKS~!....If they're gonna keep Christopher around (which I don't have a problem with), they need to give him a new gimmick....

Poor Tajiri- I thought he'd get a big pop coming out because (1) He was facing Triple H and (2) he's the underdog. But all he got was silence....The match itself was pretty decent, taking me back to the days that Trips fought Taka and Al Snow in consecutive weeks in pretty darn good matches....So Kane's new gimmick is that he's a pervert?....

The Orton/Race segment was pretty well done, at least getting Orton some heat in Harley's home state. One of my friends reminded me that Race was in that NBC special that revealed the "secrets" of wrestling. I thought I heard where the guys involved would be blackballed or something like that. I guess that wasn't true....The ME wasn't too bad, but may have ran a little long.

The Race thing..

That was B.S., That was not a spit at Race the legand, but at the NWA. Race was The "Flair" of the 70s, and this was not a good send-off. Vince and Harley had an agreement to do this bit,but it is insulting; would Blassie had to of done this?

Vince, once again proved his lack of respect of wrestling's history, with this action.

The rest of the show good.

I felt Jeff Hardy coming out was going to happen, but glad it did not, building the proper heat on Kane.

Did anyone else notice the (presumably) newbie ref in the ring during the Rhyno match? Every time he dropped down to lay down the count he looked like a fish floundering out of water. Hilarious to say the least. :D

I am all about developing stories, and creating heat, but this was in the wrong direction. It was cheap hometown heat, but that is not so true.

When Vinnie Mac v.1 broke from the NWA board it was Race who was champion. He was the other champion in the WWF world, and was never respected in my opinion.

The "King" gimmic was a joke, and the "Handsome" name was an insult. Race loves wrestling. He invites all the "boys" to his home when they are in town for a cookout. Tonight was just not fitting.

I feel they took advantage of a man's love of wrestling.

Maybe I am wrong, and I hope I am, but as a fan of history it felt wrong.

I loved Regal's commentary. All you hear was "stop that" and "put that down". It was just funny to me. Also, Regal's expression as the pyro went off was fantasitc.

I really think its not worth getting worked up about. Race could have simply said, "No." He's at much at fault, if you really think NWA was disrespected.

(and your last post makes it sound like you've switched to saying that Harley was the one who was disrespected.)

Um, yes; "dark-haired ref" was also involved in the Hardy/Kane pull-apart in the back. During the match, it looked like his ear-piece didn't want to stay in.

Blassie did have to deal with the shrill voice of the McMahon daughter screeching he was going to die in '01. At least spit doesn't cause your eardrums to bleed. The insulting thing was Harley not being allowed to land a stiff punch on Orton.
And, while the King gimmick had its flaws, it could have been worse. He could have been made to wear polka dots like another former NWA Champ.
I do have to agree though with the fear that a Jeff Hardy stumble-in was coming when Kane was waiting for his opponent.

Relax, guy. It's pro wrasslin'.

Good Raw tonight. I'm liking the storylines these days, with the exception of Jericho/ Christian, which I wish would just end, already. Jericho needs to be doing something productive instead of treading water. And who the fuck is Tyson Tomko? Is anyone else sick of big guys with crappy "tribal" tattoos?

Kane rules. He's been consistently excellent for a while now, and the feud with Hardy could be good for both workers. Both of them are vastly underrated.

Benoit is a stellar champ, and I'm looking forward to the match next week. They're really getting him over as a tough, relentless competitor, and he's getting huge pops. Edge is benefiting from tagging with Benoit; his pops were much bigger this week.

Victoria is continuing to be great as well. However, the women's division needs more compelling storylines. "I want to kick her ass because she shaved my head" doesn't cut it.

Overall a great Raw, another in a streak recently. Things just seem to be clicking.

Was it me or did that poor kid look horrified when Victoria tried to kiss him?

A so-so RAW in my view ... The tag match was way to long and was too predictable. But I know it's just building to next week's main event.

I, too, thought Jeff was gonna pop out during the Lita/Matt/Kane bit ...

To use one of Foley's lines, Regal has the best facial expressions this side of VinMan. Man I wish Regal could still wrestle.

LOL, that was great.

I thought it was a Perfectly Acceptable Show. Nothing special, nothing terrible, some good stuff. I'll take it - they can't all be hits.

I *really* like how they're setting matches two weeks in advance. I've often missed that since like '97 or so.

Next week should be great . . .

My raw thought of the night, "Man I want Harley to get in there and knock Ortons head off so Flair can go out there and knock Harley's head off!!!"
Been watching the Flair DVD like crazy, what can ya say? They worked well together.

Did I just not notice before, or is that long blast of strobes a new addition to Lita's entrance? I'm amazed that all the epileptics in the audience didn't go into seizures. Maybe next week she can come out throwing handfuls of broken glass into the crowd too.

Mrs. Shem commented that Garrison Cade looked like Rocky (as in Horror, not Balboa or Maivia). Maybe if the Coach thing doesn't pan out, they can bring back Goldust as Dr. Frank N. Dust.

The closed captioning guy spelled Gail Kim's name "Gail Quim." I laughed, because I'm twelve.

As for the spitting on Harley Race, I liked the bit when Randy wound up to spit, then paused just a moment as Harley stared at him before working up the nerve to go ahead and do it. Nice subtle touch.

Goddess help me, but I'm actually looking forward to Eugene vs. Conway. I'm just grateful it's not Grenier.
