2 straight weeks with only singles matches. Bischoff's WCW goal of eliminating tag teams might finally come true.
Outside of a 15 minutes stretch between half past second hour to quarter of of that hour, they kept the flotsam and jetsam stuff out of the program.
It's Carolina, let Flair use his own theme. And, he really needed a "Now, We Go To School" before the figure 4. Anyway Trip could decide that one of his opponents could do a Windham impression rather than Batista's Luger/Hawk hybrid?
Angle is going to do Michaels career in 4 weeks? Does this mean he is going to team with Marty Jannetty in white trunks and face Doug Somers and Buddy Rose in a blood bath this week? If so, I might actually consider watching SD for the first time in about 9 months.
Sick dive by Benoit. They might have been better off having Benjamin lose the I-C belt via DQ last week rather than have it devalued somewhat by him jobbing clean via submission in a non-title match.
Taker is boring even in a mock-u-mentary. Orton's big announcement might have meant something if the match wasn't being promoted in commercial for a few weeks leading up to the shocking announcement.
Bye Rosey. At least Trip got rid of someone useless for a while.
Thought they might have Edge job in order to really bump up the insanity aspect of his character.
If they ever get very creative, they could get months worth of compelling storylines around the World Title Contract. Of course, they'll probably forget it two weeks after Mania.

Pretty boring opening interview(s), but it gives more background to the WM match....Trips/Rosey was a squash, but at least he didn't kill someone who had any credibility....Man, that song on the BK commercial with the Hootie and the Blowfish guy is catchy....Kane in the ladder match? I'd prefer Mattitude....Edge/Jericho was decent, helped no doubt by the crowd chants at Edge....

I'm not sure the point of Orton RKO'ing Bischoff....Good Benoit/Shelton match....I'm loving these "WrestleMania goes Hollywood" promos....Fit Finlay has a lot of work to do to get Christy ready for WM....I guess a lot of jokes could be made about Lita "training" Christy what with Lita's skill level and all....Batista/Flair was, well, there. They still don't wanna expose Batista in any match too long.

I was waiting for the first sign of the night regarding the whole Matt/Lita/Edge thing. And I finally saw it with the EDGE SPEARED LITA

I really enjoyed the Benjamin/Benoit match. Wish that one could have went longer.

Was I the only one that let out a sigh or relief when Snitsky didn't come down to face Christian?

I was feeling the love for the Orton boos. I detected a bit of the heel Randy persona coming out (until he RKOed Bischoff).

Yep, 'Mania's shaping up quite nice.

You could also make out a couple faint "you screwed Matt" and "you screwed Lita" chants.

OK enough show.

-Jericho/Edge was pretty good, as was Benoit/Benjamin (albeit criminally short).

-Poor Christian can't buy a win. Guy's been busting his ass, and all they do is use him as a jobber.

-Got a bit of a chuckle out of the silence/boos that Orton was garnering during his promo.

-Is the black guy in the Taker WM commercial supposed to represent the entire SD midcard?

-And hopefully Trish retains the belt at WM. Christy really doesn't need to win the belt, and it would really make the rest of the women's division look bad to have her be the one to beat Trish.

Great opening promos, supurbs job by both, really makes more of the match then just the Rumble. Benjamin/Benoit was very good for the time they were given. I really liked the Taker ad, longest promo hes had in 18 months. This is looking to be a very strong card with very little filler. I'm banking on Hassan v. Hogan.

No Hassan! Unless I missed it while catching the free Showtime preview on DirecTV! Any chance he's getting a short exile for screwing up the match last week? Is it time for a declarative sentence? I think so.

Jericho/Edge wasn't bad and the most important thing to occur this week is Edge's win. He won a match. A match!

Shelton/Benoit was criminally short but then Benoit would have killed himself had it gone any longer. That ladder spear was terrible to watch. He might be the first person to duck the Dragonwhip kick.

Rosey's moonsault was nice. Why have we not seen that before on RAW?

A pretty good show with lots of momentum for WM. At least from what I saw. I managed to catch Penn and Teller's show and was distracted for a while.

I attended tonight's Raw. I must say that I was happy with the show overall. Not too many backstage skits, and some good wrestling. Here's some off-camera notes. This contains spoilers, in case anyone gives a shit about Heat spoilers:

Good sized crowd. The lower bowl was mostly full, with parts of some sections tarped off on the camera-side. Good crowd heat too.

Dark match:

Someone who's name I couldn't make out (sounded like Silus Dean, but I could be way off) beat Murray Happar. Decent match. Crowd was into this too, which was a suprise since crowds usually turn on these types of matches.

Sunday Night Heat:

Gene Snitsky beat Val Venis. Was what you'd expect. Good heat for Val, considering he's been treated as a jobber since 1999.

Chris Masters beat Caprice Coleman. Cut a promo gloating about injuring Steven Richards. Apparantley, his finisher (full-nelson) is called the Master Lock.

Rob Conway beat Rhyno. Sylvain Grenier was ordered to leave the ring after interfering. Conway won with a rollup and his feet on the ropes.

William Regal & Tajiri beat Simon Dean & Maven. This marks the fourth or fifth week in a row that the Tag Champs haven't been on the A-show, and because of that I didn't even remember who the champs were until they came through the curtain.

RAW:

During the Edge/Jericho match there were some small chants of "You screwed Matt", "You screwed Lita", and "We want Matt". Not sure if they were picked up by the camera, though, as they were contained to a small portion of the audience.

Ric Flair cut a promo on Raleigh, basically dissing the city's sports teams. Amazingly, Flair got MORE over because of it. Only the Nature Boy, I guess.

Afterwards:

After RAW went off the air, Batista challenged Triple H. They had a 10-15 minute match. A LOT of Flair stuff on the outside, which was really the highlight. Okay match, but not WrestleMania main-event worthy. Although, I'm sure during the Mania match they'll use a lot more smoke & mirrors and creative tricks to build up the story. I will say this: the fans want this match, as there was a loud roar when the bell rang to begin the match and another eruption when Hunter & Batista locked-up. It's amazing how Batista went from the weak link in Evolution a few months ago to being so over that he couldn't even get booed against Ric Flair in North Carolina.

"They might have been better off having Benjamin lose the I-C belt via DQ last week rather than have it devalued somewhat by him jobbing clean via submission in a non-title match."

Losing a good match to Chris Benoit is more devaluing than the title going to Gene Snitsky on a DQ?

"Kane in the ladder match? I'd prefer Mattitude"

Would you prefer the match ends with Edge getting thrown to his death? (It's possible that Matt was originally supposed to be in it.)

I probably shouldn't answer Justin's second question, on the grounds that it might incriminate me.

(I kid, I kid... but I do think that Edge and Lita are 100% in the wrong about this, and it sucks that Matt's probably gonna be the one to be "punished" by being traded or lotteried back to SmackDown.)

Anyhoo... enjoyed RAW. Trish Stratus continues to be the highlight of the night for me-- her promos have just been hilarious. Hey, Lita's been teaching Spaz how to wrestle? So I assume that at WM21, Spaz is gonna almost kill herself with a moonsault?

I really wish they'd stop acting like this whole thing is "Playboy Envy" on Trish's part. So the Women's Title is less valuable than being on the cover of Playboy? Will anyone even remember Christy Hemme in five years?

The Kane/Christian match was a glorified squash, although I was surprised by Tomko's actions immediately following the match. Jericho/Edge and Benoit/Benjamin, however, were outstanding. Benoit/Benjamin is a match I've been waiting to see for some time now. I think the last time they wrestled against each other was on SmackDown!, which I'm seldom able to watch. (I was gonna say "I seldom get the opportunity to watch", but that's giving SD! too much credit.)

Nice to see that Batista was so over a North Carolina crowd cheered him against Ric Flair-- wow. If you can do that, you can do just about anything.

Oh, and the Undertaker Dirty Harry commercial was pretty cool. First of the promos, I believe, to stay exactly on par with the original script-- at least until the ending, that is. 'Taker didn't do Clint Eastwood justice, unfortunately, but just who the hell can?

My favorite WM21 commercial, thus far, is the A Few Good Men promo with JBL, Cena and a cameo by The Coach. Dammit, they need to put these commercials on the DVD!

Batista's the first 'untouchable' guy Trips has faced in a long time. Great moment with him breaking HHH's peni...er, sledgehammer there in the final bit. Good symbolism. I actually like the thumbs down thing myself, at least if he restricts it a bit more (making it the equivalent of Benoit's throat slash).

I'm really psyched for the "Money in the Bank" match. Great way to make a throw-away workrate 'n' bumping match mean something. Edge seems like the likely favorite, but Benoit's a definite contender as well. Should kick ass anyway.

Orton at least showed a few heelish hints, but I just won't care about him until he goes full heel. The gratuitous RKO to Bischoff, however, indicates that they want to keep him face for a least a while longer. I don't know why, as the crowd seemed perfectly prepared to boo him when he mentioned 'Taker.

Lots of good matches tonight. That Benoit bump into the ladder was crazy. Overall, just a very entertaining show. While some of the buildup to Wrestlemania has been less than stellar (Orton/Taker, I'm looking at you...), I'm still pretty pumped up at this point.

I'd be surprised if anything bad came of Matt going to Smackdown. All he's done since joining RAW is dump Lita, or get dumped by Lita, or both at one time I think, and then get killed by Kane, and then get injured. Getting moved over could be the best thing for his career at this point.

I also don't look at him moving to Smackdown as being "punished", I look at it as them just seperating the two, and that works out best for everyone. I'd say keeping him on as a jobber to Snitsky and Kane for a few years because they don't know how to use him would be being punished. That is IF he gets moved, of course.

The most ironic part of this is that the girl who's jealous is about 47.6 times more attractive than the girl who's supposedly getting all the attention. Not to mention the fact that any fan that cares about the Diva's posing for Playboy to begin with has already checked and found out that Trish has turned it down.

If Matt can't get over himself enough to be the better man and be able to work in the same locker room as Edge and Lita, then he should take whatever he can get on Smackdown. It sucks to be him but whatcha gonna do? Make a big scene? Try to beat up Edge and get embarassed? The best thing he can do is take a couple weeks, cool off, and again, be the professional and be the better man. Don't ask to be moved to Smackdown and don't cause a scene.

RAW was pretty decent with the Edge/Jericho and Benoit/Benjamin matches. I would've liked to see the lengths reversed as we've seen a lot of Edge vs Jericho and very little of Benjamin vs Benoit. They could always do a rematch and have Benjamin beat Benoit with the IC Title on the line, if everyone is worried about Benjamin. Either way, we all win getting to see them wrestle each other.

They're doing the right things with Big Dave and hopefully he gets Flair as his manager post-WrestleMania because they'll ruin him if they try to make him "entertaining" (see face Cena and Orton).

Angle is going to try to break Shawn's records. Since Shawn was the first member of the Grand Slam club, and Kurt has held those belts as well, I guess this means Kurt has to win the one title that Shawn has never held: the Cruiserweight Championship.

I'm predicting Edge as the winner of the six-man, and then throwing a new spin on his character: just sitting on it for a few months. He can get a title shot anytime, anywhere, and he'll know it. Give him that element of plotting and biding his time, and it'd up the dickishness of his heel persona.

Trish and Christy actually had a solid confrontation. Christy has at least shown that she can do a decent promo. The match will very likely blow, but I can handle the promos at least.

Orton seemed to be at around 70% boos/ 30% cheers by the time he was done with his promo and the RKO to Bischoff. It's about damn time.

And now, a moment of silence for The Sledgehammer (1999-2005). It will be missed.

Agreed. Benoit/Benjamin should've been longer. Edge/Jericho dragged in a LOT of sections, with way too much laying around for my liking. Hell, Jericho worked Edge's arm for 5 minutes and it didn't go anywhere.

Still, good RAW. The build for Mania is going strong. Still, the announcing of the competitors for the six-way had me humming that awesome Sesame Street song ("One of these things is not like the others...").

I guess I'm alone, but I didn't mind a clean ending in Benoit/Benjamin.

I thought it made it look like Benoit is above IC level, and the Crossface is a "can happen at any time" lethal move.

Both men got great offense/defense in (although Benoit=Flair in top-rope success), but Shelton got caught and lost that match. It's not like anyone was buried or made to look stupid.

I don't know if I'm the only one here, but I'm more looking forward to the 2 undercard matches than the main events themselves. Angle/HBK and the Money in the Bank match have me a lot more excited to order Mania than anything else on the card so far. Probably not gonna be no where near last year's Mania...but for essentially throwing a show together, compared to the large buildups last year, it's starting to come together nicely.

I thought RAW was Ok and have the feeling it is in cruise contraol until we get a week from Wrestlemania. I do agree with the Masked Computer Geek that batista needs to drop the thumbs up/thumbs down schtick. It was awesome at the contract signing but does not work elsewhere. Besides that gripe, I think batista is being pushed perfectly by the WWE, and that is rare.

Of all the matches, both booked and rumored, in order I am looking forward to:

Money in the Bank
Guererro/Mysterio
Angle/Michaels
Guererro/London (if they give it 20 minutes)
HHH/Batista
Cena/JBL
Trish/Christy
Big Show/Akebomo
Undertaker/Orton

Looks like a great card. Hopefully they let the matches that should go 30-40 minutes (MitB, Angle/Michaels and Guerrero/Mysterio) be that long and not cut it to 10-15.

I think you're an asshole. No, no, let me correct that, an immature asshole. Which is fine, except that you're marrying my daughter and I'm afraid that my grandchildren are gonna be little assholes.
