What would happen if AdBreak and ClosedCaptioning teamed-up against me? It'd be like a worn-out comic-book plot. (Well, actually if a commercial is closed-captioned it's usually pretty good. But that's not important in the hypothetical imaginary story, anyway.)

Fighting evil by moonlight, winning love by daylight, never running from a real fight, because it is time to WAKE UP! It's time for Raw from Portland, OR...and a Fashion Report, too!

Goldberg, in black fullcuts with white trim and barbedwire butt, vs. Vince? No; Vince, in grey suit and blue-grey shirt (top two buttons undone) is out to make sure a match doesn't happen on this show. Vince un-books Goldberg's match. This brings out Austin, in sleeveless "F0CK FEAR" tshirt, jean shorts, and knee braces, riding his trusty 4-Wheeler. Much talking happens and the "Goldberg-at-NoWayOut" angle is pimped. Heyman, in black suit, blue shirt, and navyblue tie, gabe it up ('cuz it's Raw, so he can participate in a 15-minute show-opening promo, see). Spear Heyman, spear attempt at Vince, but Austin bites it instead. Could've been done in 5 minutes.

Moments ago, two sentences ago.

In the back, Goldberg apologizes to a wounded Austin. Meanwhile, Austin invades Bisch's Room of Fun and chews-out Bisch, in black suit and black shirt. Vince suspends Goldberg. Ass.

Trish, in blue top with black trim, black pants, and sparkly black trenchcoat, and Jericho, in sparkly black/red "Jericho" shirt and red/black tights, vs. Molly, in white/black top and black pants, carrying the Women's Title, and Mattitude, in black/white shirt and black/white pants with black pockets. Chad Patton is the official, in black/white stripes. Jericho aggravates the knee injury. Christian! punks-out Mattitude. Trish gets the pin on Molly

In the back, Christian and Trish talk about Jericho. Meanwhile, Cade and Jindrak "read" Playboy, when Jackie and Stacie come by and vow they'll make Playboy sorry. Meanwhile (2), Mick wanders in the back and Coach appears to talk smack (Mick will embarass Randy by...embarassing Randy?).

Flair, in red "Nature Boy" robe with gold sequins, and red "RF" undies thereunder, vs. Benoit, in red tights with black slashes. Hebner is the match's referee. Holy crap - Flair's chest is busted-open by chops! Both men are down, so AdBreak fearlessly runs-in.

(cont.) Back to the chops, then a back-and-forth series. Attempted Figure-Four countered into a Crossface. Flair submits. A nice match.

In the back, HHH watches Benoit celebrate on the monitor. HHH summons Ref. Patton and sends him off on an errand to have the ring prep'ed for the Contract Signing.

The ring has been prep'ed. Benoit is still in the ring, and Bisch is just getting into the ring. Y'know, Bischoff hasn't been too heelish lately. HHH, in black suit, white shirt (top three buttons undone), carrying the World Heavyweight Title on his shoulder, with his water bottle and a bandage on his forehead. Benoit doesn't sit down. HHH cuts an excellant arrogant-heel promo, the kind that forces Benoit to question if he wants to risk defeat on the biggest stage. Then Shawn, in black "The Source of Strength" tshirt and blue jeans, comes out saying that HE wants to face HHH at WrestleMania. Superkick to Benoit; then Shawn signs the contract. Bisch just watches, stunned. The crowd is mixed.

Moments ago, three sentences ago. Benoit took that LIKE A MAN!

Lawler, in red/gold silk shirt, and JR, in grey sportscoat, black shirt, black hat, and green tie, are the greek chorus.

Kane, under the towell, in black tights with red stripes, vs. The Hurricane, in green "H" cape, green/black "H" suit, and mask. Jack Doan is the official. Chokeslam -> pin. A poor (short) match. Kane's pyro does NOT go. Again it fails. But the third time's a charm. Then we get a NEW spooky video "In 34 days/the dead will rise/again" and the lights go blue.

In the back, Benoit stalks, followed by Bischoff (duh, just draw-up a new contract). Bisch, to make-good, books Benoit vs. Shawn, for next week. Meanwhile, Terri (almost hidden by the closed captioning) questions Randy. See some FOOTAGE! of the opening segment. Now, Coach questions Goldberg, in the back.

FOOTAGE! of Superstars in Japan.

Mick, in the red flannel, black tshirt, and black sweats, infers that Randy is the real coward. Foley wants a match at WrestleMania. Mick then heads to catering (where Randy is, issuing a challenge). But Flair and Batista are there, too, and it is not much of a contest. Batista sends Mick through a table; Randy gets his licks on the injured man.

Moments ago, the previous two sentences.

Rob, in blue "RVD" singlet with crotch-eating dragon and spinal column, vs. BookerT, in RED hot-crotch flamin' "BookerT" undies vs. AdBreak vs. Randy, in black "Orton" undies with gold hip bolts, wearing the IC Title. Mike Chioda is the official. Most of the match, one man was always resting, but all three were involved for the last two minutes. Rob hits the Five-Star, but Randy gets the pin on BookerT. A nice match. Post-match, Flair and Batista come to the ring to celebrate. Mick hobbles his way down, but the present Evolution members beat-down the assembled faces.

Overall: An entertaining show. Wow - that crowd was hot. I guess the WW should always go to cities they haven't been to for decades for tapings. So why didn't Coach join commentary this week? Not as much in-ring action as I'd have liked, but what can you expect after three days in Japan?

Did anybody else notice a problem with Ross tonight? It sounded like he did shortly after coming back from Bell's in 1999.

I am so sick of these "contract" signings on RAW and Smackdown. They are lame ways to do plot twists and just insult my intellegence.

Did the state of Oregon finally drop their mandatory steroid testing of certain athletes *wrestlers*? It was only a matter of time I guess. If Paul Allen can buy his own election in Washington State where the only thing on the ballot is a stadium vote he surely can get some rinky dink law off the Oregon books. He has an arena to fill damnit!

RAW Thoughts:

Good opening segment, although the Brand Extension is becoming more meaningless with every guy who shows up on the opposite show....I was hoping Vince would take a spear, but no dice....The opening mixed tag was good too. I thought they put a second Matt-Fact up, but switched out of his intro before I could read it. Cool ending with Christian interfering. At first, they just showed the back of Christian's head and I didn't know who it was, and the first name that came into my mind that I yelled out was Johnny Ace(!?). Suffice to say, I got some strange looks from my friends....

Intersting twist, with Christian seemingly jealous of Jericho and trying to go after Trish himself....What, no followup to the Jackie/Stacy backstage thing with Cade/Jindrak?....Benoit v.s Flair was, well, a chopfest....The contract signing almost put me to sleep. Sweet superkick by Michaels, though, and great reaction too....Kane v.s Hurricane was a throwaway, only to show the new 'Taker video....(Another) good Foley promo....I can't believe there's a friggin' "CLB" sign in the crowd. That has to be planted....Good Triple Threat match at the end too. Interesting finishing sequence with Orton pushing RVD out of the way to steal the pin. Real Good RAW tonight.

EDIT: According to SK, "Matt has status on 5 airlines" was the other Matt Fact.

Michaels versus Benoit numero uno better get a good 20-25 minutes. A smark's wet dream right there.

However, HBK better not be inserted into the main event. A triple threat like that is suited for a Judgment Day-type PPV, not WRESTLEMANIA XX.

I like how the writers are depending heavily on the idea of trust. Goldberg spearing Austin, HBK superkicking Benoit, Christian helping Jericho. Adds to the element of suspense amongst the babyfaces. I would have liked if they would have had Booker win the IC and RVD turning on Booker for Mania, but oh well. Here we go again with the card:

Benoit vs Triple H vs Michaels
Lesnar vs Goldberg
Angle vs Guerrero
Orton vs Foley
Undertaker vs Kane
Batista/Flair vs Booker/RVD
Christian vs Jericho

This is such a sweet looking card top-to-bottom so far. It's just a shame this event seems to be lacking that one match that would put it over the top, but I'm afraid only Austin, Rock, and Hogan can bring such a feeling. If I were Vince, I'd pour a hell of a lot of cash for Hogan to come back and do a lot of convincing to Austin so the two of them can face off. Add a Rock return against Cena and then this would be a top 5 Mania right off the bat.

I like the idea of Orton v. Foley as a singles and Flair/Batista v. RVD/Booker at WrestleMania, for a lot of reasons.

One is it actually gets Rob on the card (you people should know by now that I AM an RVD mark and I can't help it).

Also, it doesn't water down the Orton/Foley match like making it a tag match would have. And making it one-on-one frees up Flair/Batista and lets the World Tag Titles actually get defended on WrestleMania this year. If it were a tag match, both the Intercontinental and Tag Titles wouldn't have been able to have been defended. This way, they both get to be defended. It also livens up the RAW tag division, giving the fans another big babyface team instead of the ultra-stale Dudley Boyz.

The one thing about this is that it leaves The Rock nowhere. PERSONALLY, I'd only use Rock for a legends' ceremony or something, as I'm very much for pushing towards the future, and not relying on past superstars. However, I know I'm about the only one on the planet to feel this way (about The Rock, at least). So therefore... I dunno'. I'd say Rock v. Cena, but rumors have it that Rock already turned that down.

Oh well, this is WWE, so it probably will just end up being Rock/Foley v. Orton/Batista, Flair/Booker/RVD doing nothing, and Dudleyz winning their 5159717533758 title at Backlash. Oh well.

I TOTALLY agree with you!! It made sense back in the "kayfabe days" when they made contracts seem necessary, but these days contracts make no sense. They are constantly making matches right there with no chance for contracts to be signed. Just last week they did 2 matches like that on RAW (Benoit vs. Mark Henry and Trish vs. Kane).

Then, the whole deal with Shawn Michaels tonight goes way too far to be believable. Are we supposed to believe that a contract for a World Title shot at WrestleMania is just a form contract that's totally open ended for just anybody to sign? I guess I can just show up at the contract signing for the next boxing match for the Heavyweight Championship fight, hit the challenger with a steel pipe and sign my name to make my $5 million+ for getting punched by the champion. Hey, once I sign my name it is unbreakable and they are obligated to abide by the contract, right?

By the way, I don't necessarily oppose a 3 way match because I think those 3 would put on a hell of a match. I just wish they could come up with a story that isn't so full of holes.

Goddamn Randy Orton. I have to watch his shitty offense for a whole match, then he gets to hit his finisher on Foley. I care so little about him and yet hate him so much, because I know Foley's gonna put him over.

And fuck Bautista. I was twenty times more scared of Sid Vicious than I am of this walking billboard for some downtown ink shop.

AND HBK. Did you hear those boos? The ones before he hit the superkick. No one wants him around in the main event, I'd call that a pretty resounding vote. And I REALLY don't want him, because he and his buddy are gonna find a way to shaft the guys that I like.

I hate the fact that these two got the finish. I hated seeing Randy Orton hold the belt over someone who makes me want to watch RAW. Ooooh.. but it's heat, he's making an internet mark hate him. Yeah, and the heat's so good that I'm tired of giving these people my money to tell me who I'm supposed to want to see. Is it good heat when you make a fan want to play the only card that he has?

I think I'm done after Mania. Fuck it, I don't care if that sounds like a goodbye post or not.

True -- but for someone who would have thought heavily about buying WMXX for Benoit/HHH is now leaning towards heavily NOT buying the show.

At least AsteroidBoy might give WWE $50 more. For me, I'm not going to at the moment.

Am I the only one who thinks that was one of the best RAW's ever? God damn everything meshed so well and hyped Mania to the max. In my opinion this is the best build up to a Mania ever.

Lets just say HBK didnt wrestle int the title match, where would he go on the card. Im sorry to tell you smarks this but HBK is WAY more over then Benoit. Benoit is not even getting that great pops.

You guys are too much...you always bitch about Benoit not getting a shot but now look he is in the god damn Mania main event, and even Gurrero is getting title shots, the McMahons are hardly on TV...WHAT THE HELL MORE DO YOU SMARKS WANT?!!!

If your really not going to order Mania because its a triple threat HBK/HHH/BENOIT match instead of a HHH/BENOIT natch then you truly are an asshole.

I would've agreed with you until tonight. He got no reaction during his promo (smattering of boos, actually) and then the crowd just didn't give a shit post the superkick.

I really, really enjoyed Shawn getting a mediocre reaction, and then getting booed.

I've been fascinated these past couple of weeks as to how the fans will react to the juxtaposition of Michaels and Benoit. On one hand, the fans have a history with Michaels and he oozes personality and charisma in and out of the ring. On the other hand, we've seen all we could possibly see with HBK vs HHH, and Michaels himself on the top, so I'm wondering if the fans will get fed up with the booking and choose Benoit over Michaels. We'll get a better indication as to who the marks prefer next week.

I would love for them to turn Michaels heel so we can have a Benoit vs HHH singles with Shawn in Hunter's corner (leading to a Bret return to even the odds possibly? Naaahh). But it would be foolish for the WWE not to include Shawn in a match and/or turn him heel after investing much into his babyface role, so I say best possible scenario would be WM-X style with Shawn vs HHH, Benoit vs x, and then finally, Benoit vs HHH. Not going to happen, sadly, so I guess we'll have to settle with the decent but not-so-epic triple threat match for our Wrestlemania main event.

Ah, anyway, how kickass would it be if the fans turned on Michaels' inclusion in the main event enough for the WWE to decide to keep him out for good. But maybe I'm dreaming.

This reminds me of Chris Jericho two years ago. WWE didn't have confidence that Jericho could pull off the WM main, so they pad it up with Stephane and make it "TRIPLE H vs chris jericho with STEPHANIE MCMAHON"

Yep. Looks like WWE doesn't have confidence that Benoit can pull off a WM main, so pad it with Shawn Michales and make it "TRIPLE H vs chris benoit vs SHAWN MICHAELS"

Hey, I finally realized why I hate Orton so much. He reminds me of President Bush.

I seem to recall JR saying on his first RAW appearance (back when Orton was a young blue-chipper) that the AWOL was just him "sowing some wild oats," but of course how things changed.

Normally I'd complain about the three-way at WM, but since we're getting Michaels/Benoit next week, I'll shut up and be good.

MH: How about if I say that I’ve got…a…uh…?
CJ: Coming up with T-Shirt ideas is hard Mark, why not leave it to the WWE marketing department.
MH: I know! I’ve got it!
CJ: Got what?
MH: Stank! That’s Mah Stank! I’m gonna make a fortune!!
CJ: “That’s Mah Stank”?
MH: On the front it’ll say “Can You Smell It?” and on the back it’ll say “That’s Mah Stank”. Everybody’ll buy it because they’ll think it’s a Rock shirt.
CJ: You know…you might be on to something there, sad to say.
MH: I can’t wait to show mah stank to Trish.
