So ... RAW happened today.

I missed the first hour, but apparently Hulk Hogan is hosting Wrestlemania 30 (meh), and Daniel Bryan really wants to fight HHH. Looks like my prediction was right, after CM Punk went inactive they went with the one who made the most sense in the HHH match to begin with. "Set in stone" my ass.

Speaking of Bryan, he had a heck of a match with Kane, the former members of Hell No beating the tar out of each other. Gods Kane looks weird in a wife beater and slacks, though. Weirder than Kane normally looks, I mean. After DB gets the inevitable pinfall, he challenges HHH again to a match at the Big Dance and calls him a coward hiding behind his wife's skirts. Looks like it's definitely on.

Emma is still cute as hell and it turns out she can wrestle, too! A hell of a lot better than any of the Total Divas, anyway. I like this goofy, clumsy yet hot girl.

For a moment I really thought the Usos won the titles in a match that consisted entirely of Road Dogg doing his spiel and the Usos kicking him in the face, but it was a non-title match. That would have been a hillarious way to retire the Old Age Outlaws. Instead it looks like we get to see another round with the Usos, since by beating the OAO they're #1 contenders again. The Rhodeses must be rather irritated.

Reigns and Wyatt had a hell of a match, Jim Ross would've loved this one. Two big, young hosses kicking the tar out of each other with big, high-impact moves. Screwjob ending when first the Wyatts interfere, then the Shield. Looks like the Shield breakup is definitely on hold, though Ambrose was conspicuous by his absence up until he charged in for the save. Weird to see the Shield getting cheered after more than a year of them being perennial heels.

Looks like Brock's getting fed to Taker this time around. The Dead Man still has the best entrance in WWE, especially after they added the flame bursts. He stabs Brock in the hand and then AHHH THE CHOKESLAM through the table! I dunno how I like Taker's mohawk tho, looks kinda funny on him. Plus he had all year to grow his hair out ...

Not a bad RAW overall. Here's hoping Bryan wins over HHH. Their #1 face over a heel that doesn't really wrestle would be a no-brainer if it was anyone except Poochie ...

Hogan blew his lines, so that made me happy.

I'd rather have X-Pac heat than Batista heat. They have no choice, but to turn him ... I still don't think they are bailing from this matchup sadly.

Christian took his beating like a man tonight. He's been really impressive lately.

I feel like Bryan is losing some steam. Bryan/HHH feels like a consolation prize.

Bray/Reigns was good, but it was the wrong pairing for a straight up singles match. The crowd was lousy until the end, but so was the booking. Ambrose pulled a Swagger from earlier in the show. Great dive by Rollins.

I hope Taker is doing DDP Yoga, he has aged a ton since we last saw him. The pen stab choke slam was nice though.

A lot of good wrestling that would have been even more enjoyable with better announcing.

Yeah, I noticed that JBL in particular was pretty crappy tonight, but so were King and Cole.

Also, the crowd was a little weird during the Wyatt/Reigns fight ... I think at one point they even started a "Randy Savage" chant? Green Bay does realize he died like years ago, right?

So, John Cena's injury -- work or shoot? There's the "if it happens on TV it's real" theory of CRZ, but it just seems like an odd story to tell at this point -- and an odd way to tell it.

That said, right now I'm leaning toward work, based mostly on how quickly the announce crew was able to pinpoint the exact moment he was injured, plus their diagnosis of "It was hyperextended, right there."

Brock Lesnar is the greatest physical threat the Streak has ever fac--oh. nevermind.

Bryan will easily defeat Triple H. It's a cinch. Especially with Warrior in the building.

I guess there's not much for him to do in an interview announcing a future interview, but Hogan's return was pretty tepid.

They do not have the stones to run Orton/Batista. The whole story of the match is now that no one wants to see it. Poor Dave, blood in the water indeed. How the mighty have fallen, now resigned to Intro To Cena 101 lines like "I respect your passion and your right to make your voices heard." I hope he doesn't keep trying to reason with the crowd on Smackdown -- I know the heel turn is coming but it still makes me feel sad for him. He loves this business

It's still really funny though.

Cena refused an MRI? Does he think it gives you autism?

Seems like last night's Shield/Wyatts got them overly confident -- having Bray and Reigns do a long singles match at 10:45 was suspect.

Cesaro/Swagger is maybe not a big Wrestlemania breakout match for Cesaro. But I thought Christian/Sheamus were being set up last night too so clearly there's a long time to go before the next tier of guys start locking in prom dates.

Funny enough, I was watching all this and thought, wow, we all knew practically everything important that would be happening on this show at Christmastime, save for Bryan pinch hitting for Punk. I gotta give it up to David A. Meltzer even when he says stuff I find it hard to fathom like Cena/Wyatt or Jericho/Fandango.

I'm a trusting person. Put me down for real injury that was not used as enough of a hook for the postgame show to justify the effort of the detail work into faking it, but ultimately immaterial either way since Cena would wrestle with a dislocated kneecap in six weeks anyway.

I feel like taking a long nap after five minutes on the exercise bike and even I have better cardio than Batista.

Yeah, it does really suck for Big Dave, as it's not his fault that the fans turned against him, it's the WWE's for completely ignoring the fans for too long. I'm sure that he wanted to come back and have a triumphant run up to Wrestlemania, but they brought him back at the exact wrong moment for what was happening with Bryan. The fans wanted Bryan to win the Rumble, they got Batista instead, and they proceeded to shit all over the big guy.

Thing is, if they're turning Batista heel, that would've been even more incentive for them to change the title holder last night. Can you imagine how hot a match between the Fans' Choice Bryan and the Corporate Choice Batista would have been? But they're pretty dead set on Orton/Batista, which the fans are going to take a huge dump on because it's two heels fighting for the title at Wrestlemania, and there's no storyline there. The only thing they could do is have a double turn and have Orton go face, and considering his entire shtick right now is "cowardly, unworthy champion", I don't think they have enough time to do that.

I don't know in what respect I feel worse for Batista: his reception or his conditioning. I knew his match with Orton would be a disaster, in terms of the crowd crapping all over it, but I didn't realize that Batista went to the Scott Steiner School of Conditioning. I don't think I've ever seen a guy so blown up and I've watched the entirety of Billy Gunn and JBL's careers. If for no other reason, they need to make that title match a three-way, because there's no way Dave can go 15 minutes.

Undertaker/Brock was intriguing for about five minutes, but then Undertaker just dispatched him so easily. It continues to astound me how much they can keep killing any mystique Brock might have.

I get the sense that this is where we're getting a three-way, with Big E defending against both Real Americans.

Oh man, I have a really bad feeling about this match, because I can only keep thinking back to Hunter's match with Brock at Extreme Rules, where Brock won, but only after Hunter spent about 20 minutes on offense and made him practically scream for his mommy. I can only imagine Bryan's going to get similar treatment.

Honestly, I think the only way we're gonna get this Daniel Bryan kid over is for me to face him a 'Mania and pin him clean. - Triple H, Sometime last night after the PPV.

Hey Bryan. I got an idea. The way to really get your 'Yes' gimmick over with this crowd is for you to make them chant it by setting up a match with me. That's, like, the ONLY way it's ever gonna stick. - Triple H, Shortly before RAW starts.

If I were Daniel Bryan, I'd join Punk in unemployment. I see this as a redo of Triple H/Booker T, but having the same results.

I really, really hope you're wrong about that Cerebus, but this is the WWE we're talking about. Sure, they were smart enough to strike when the iron was white-hot during Stone Cold's epic run, and Bryan's pops are on the same level as Austin's ... but Vince seems determined to run his business into the ground, and PoocHHHie wasn't in charge then. I hope our worst fears about HHH/Bryan aren't realized and Bryan wins clean. Again, it's pretty ridiculous that we have to worry this much about someone who's essentially a non-wrestler beating the #1 face in the company, but they've done this crap before.

To quote Foley, I'm just sad right now, just flat out fucking sad. HHH is a great guy for Bryan to face later in his career.

From foley's facebook:

''For me, personally, as a wrestler, a good feud was just as important as a title shot. But the WWE Universe has been on a personal journey with Daniel Bryan, and from the 1,000's of messages I've read, not a single member of that Universe will feel that their journey is complete without Daniel getting a shot at the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Wrestelmania. PLEASE forget about the idea of Daniel Bryan vs Triple H, or Daniel Bryan vs Kane at Mania. They are both potentially great match-ups at a later time - but not for Mania. There are times when you really do need to give the people what they want...and this is one of them.''

Right now the WHC is what Bryan needs to win at WM. I couldn't make it through the Brock Lesnar Taker closing segment when I came to realize that's they're is no real payoff for Bryan at WM. No last minute swerves, no Hogan turning the card upside down.

Just like at the RR, the company made a bold statement tonight.

And for that reason, I'll be tuning out of WWE for now. I'll keep up on here to see if anything noteworthy happens.

I have not watched WWE for months because of their treatment of Bryan. I felt all along that HHH was going to find a way to bury him and from reading recaps and message boards, it sure seems that way.

Sadly, it appears I am missing something special with Shield/Wyatts, but I will stick to my guns and stay away until Bryan is holding the title. At this point, it may be a while longer.

HHH has been Bryan's nemesis since SummerSlam, so this is a match that makes sense and tells a story. However, yeah, we all want that title match. I'm still holding out some hope that they do like WMX, and have Bryan beat HHH and go on to face the winner of Orton/Batista at the end of the show. That would fix this pretty easily.

WMXXX, Mr. Fuji leads Bautista to the ring, waving the Philippines flag. Nine minutes in, Orton locks Dave in a sharpshooter. Fuji throws a bucket of balut in Orton's face, Dave capitalizes, rolls him up, new champ.

Real American hits, Hogan marches to the ring American flag in one hand, Daniel Bryan in the other. He's biting his headband and pointing loudly at Dave and Fuji. He slaps his hands three times, points at Bryan.

Full. Circle.

I think Mr. Fuji is dead. Speaking of dead, that is what Mania looks like now DOA. If you bought the WWE Network then you are part of the reason this is happening. For all intensive purposes, WWE made or is going to make their money off of Mania this week. It doesn't matter if Dish carries it or not, they will by the way. Vince and HHH know they are safe unless there is such a meltdown at the Network on Mania Day that they have to refund that $10, they will still keep your other $50 for the rest of the months you got to watch and are going to watch. So, enjoy spending $10 a month for a bunch of material you could have gotten for free on YouTube or Dailymotion or anywhere else if Google hard enough.

Bryan's push will end at Mania with HHH trolling the fans, because that is what is best for business. They will shove Hogan into the Main Event to give the fans something to cheer for and stop the riot. Maybe they will go with the Wrestlemania X idea, but I just don't see it. HHH will want this match to be grueling for Bryan and to be seen as someone who still has it even though his last Mania match was a piss break, I know, I was in the line for the bathroom.

Let me also say this, I don't want to be the doom and gloom guy. I want to buy the Network, I want to go to our annual Wrestlemania party where I spend time with my friends that I barely see. I want to see my kid play with their kids while watching Austin vs Bret at 13 or Rock vs. Austin at 17 or Savage/Steamboat. I want to do all that, its the one day out of the year, I can be a wrestling fan. Just not this year. This will be the first Mania I will not see unless something drastic happens and the carrot of Bryan maybe beating HHH to get to the main event is not good enough, because I have no faith nor should anyone at this moment they will pull the trigger. In summation, I want to be wrong, so very very fucking wrong about this, but we have seen this play too many times. It is no wonder Punk left, because he saw it too and didn't feel like jobbing to some past his prime wrestler who has no idea how to run a wrestling program let alone a company without his ego and his friends in the way. The only way to stop it at this point is for the company to lose its shirt or literally have the fans riot. Both are terrible options.

1) I am staking claim on the "Erick Rowan released" topic title on this board right now for whenever it happens.

Spoiler Below: Highlight text to read
"WWE Wishes Erick Rowan Well On His Future En-DEH!-vours"
2) Reigns may not quite yet be ready for the massive singles push. He still needs a little more work in the middle of his longer singles matches, and what is most impressive about him is how impossibly badass he looks destroying multiple guys at once. When they do split up, I want him to win a belt and defend it primarily in Championship Scramble matches. This is not to say I'm down on Reigns, though. The Macauley Culkin fist pump and "YES!" from Home Alone that he did after Seth Rollins materialized in mid-air to take out the Wyatts was my favorite thing on the whole show, and while I don't wish any physical ill on John Cena, if this extends the Shield/Wyatts through XXX and gives us an actual Face Shield before they break up (which can make Rollins the star he deserves to be), I'm fine with that.

3) Hulk Hogan will probably not be getting any "You still got it!" chants any time soon.

4) So here's what I believe about HHH. I believe that not even he is dumb enough and such a mark for himself that...Hmmm, OK, I believe that not even he is dumb enough to put himself over Bryan at XXX, destroying the crowd for the Taker/Lesnar main event even though he did the wrong thing going over Orton in 2009. But everything wrong with the company can be pinned right on the fact that he believes and has believed and has convinced Vince and Stephanie to believe, since 2004*, the only way any top guy can be made is by going through HHH. And booking it that way for a decade has made it so because they have booked it that way for a decade and it is awful and the only time it ever actually worked was with Batista in 2005 so HHH's brilliant idea in 2014 was "I dunno, let's bring back Batista and do exactly that same shit again with the same guy nine years later?" until the crowd revolted and I feast on the very public sadness of Batista and the imaginary private sadness of HHH, who better tap out at XXX so he has to live with the YOU TAPPED OUT! chant for the rest of his life.

5) That was probably not a brief thought.

6) If you drew Simpsons versions of all the WWE Superstars, the Simpsons version of Christian would look exactly like a photo of 2014 Christian.

7) Undertaker/Brock was way, way more over with a hostile crowd than I ever expected it to be. I hope the fans enjoy this, the Undertaker's final match.

8) RIP Mr. Fuji. I'm saddened to learn about his passing and my thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family.

Not out of the box. They usually freeze the rosters as of a little bit after the draft, and Brock's a recent signee. If he makes the team, he (or just his stats) will probably available as part of the EA Live/X-Box Live roster updates.
