Quite frankly (1), it's not as offensive to the victims of 9/11 as it is to Arab-Americans, who are being portrayed as heels for a) not approving of their mistreatment post-9/11 and b) speaking Arabic. And if you think this angle is all nuanced and going well just 'cause they aren't terrorists, well, I myself would advise against that, But I Guess We'll See.

Negativity as of late. Hmm. Trish vs. Lita is a phenomenal feud. Orton and Batista had an impressive match considering how long they went. Edge is a terrific heel. Eric Bischoff is lookin' good.

Aside from the fact that he came across rather swarmy in his first promo, they haven't done much to portray Hassan as a heel yet. Then his segment last night was pretty much a babyface promo. But from the reports of his matches, there's a lot of old fashioned cheating with his manager getting involved.

If I had to guess where this is going, they will continue to play up his character like they did on Monday with no heel overtones while his actual matches are designed to draw boos from the crowd. I suppose where they go with the character of his manager will influence how it plays out, but he can then use the fact that he's booed as more evidence of the racist attitudes he talks about in his promos.

Yeah, I can see where you're coming from. What impressed me the most about Batista this week, though, was actually how well he comes across without a mic; during his segment with HHH and the belt, he managed to convey his character development without so much as saying a word. Looks to see if Hunter's gone, eyes the belt, picks up the belt, admires the belt, looks up again to make sure Hunter's gone, admires the belt again. He pulled off the 'heel team member is revealed to have intentions towards the World Title' angle better than Snitsky and Edge did, and he did it without even speaking. Yay for acting!

Quick question about Hassan and his manager: Have they specified what, specifically, their heritage is (other than Arab-American)? I don't remember them doing that.

The reason I ask is, I've read a couple of reports that point out that the manager was speaking Farsi (or Persian, same thing) and not Arabic -- as if this was somehow "incorrect" for his character. Farsi is an official language in both Iran and Afghanistan, though, so it seems suitable to me.

I just couldn't remember if they mentioned Iraq or Saudi Arabia specifically, for either of them. I suppose we'll have to wait and see where Lillian announces them as from.

(Not that this sort of accuracy matters a whole lot, anyway [that is, historically speaking, pro wrestling-wise], which is another reason it seems weird to me that the reports go out of their way to point it out.)

I had the distinct impression that they are Americans, and are victims of prejudice due to their ethnicity, not the fact that they are actually from the Middle East. So they'll be announced as from whatever American city they happen to be from, which really is the whole point of the characters (as I see it at least).

*slaps forehead* Ach, you're right, of course.

Still, the rest of my (mostly rhetorical) question stands -- they're Arab-American, but have they said anything more specific?

The thing I don't get is that they haven't done a good job at defining motivations for these guys lately:

Triple H is the champion. Logically, everyone but Orton (who CAN'T have a title shot due to previous stips) wants the title. Benoit had it, lost it, and got screwed by Evolution in the rematch. He SHOULD be pissed at them and begrudgingly teaming with Orton as a means of getting his title back. Right? Instead, he's buddy-buddy for no reason. Meanwhile, Orton shouldn't be trusting anybody, since he managed to piss everyone off when he was a cocky heel. Jericho & Maven seem like throw-ins, as they haven't shown the least bit of upward momentum lately. Heck, Jericho should've just said to Shelton "Good luck, I'm gunning for the big belt" and you have his reasoning. And why the hell is Maven around?

Meanwhile the heels actually have motivations. Edge wants to be taken seriously and sees the title as his way of doing that. Snitsky's nuts and just wants to hurt people of all ages. And Batista? Oh, David just wants some recognition. And the title.

Benoit however respects Orton (he shook his hand..) plus they have a common enemy. I don't get the impression the faces are all chummy with Orton. They just don't play it up that they might not be.

Heh, I am glad at least there is some adversity in the heel team instead of what someone already said 'we're evil, let's bond!'

I think Raw is doing a good job going into the SS.
Their matches make sense, have a backstory and have potentials for feuds after the ppv as well.
STill plenty of things to resolve. How/where does Flair fit in? I like..

Actually, I noticed something odd in the closed captioning while the manager was speaking: when he first spoke up, the captioning read "[speaking Farsi]" -- and then a minute or two later, it switched to "[speaking Arabic]". So either he really did switch languages, or the person who does the captioning doesn't know either.

Okay, so I saw many guys on here talk about the Benjamin/Tomko match as "decent." I don't know if we all watched the same match. Tomko missed many spots and Benjamin couldn't hold it together. It was a dreadful match that should cost Tomko his job.

As for the Snitsky thing, JR did go over the top when talking about Gene kicking a baby. But if you have to buy that Lita really did lose a baby and that she really did want the baby, then you could be very pissed that Snitsky keeps reminding her of it. The "big guy" intimidating a woman angle is easily relatable so I do not have a problem with Lita and JR being upset. I only wish JR could have reigned it in a little bit.

I like that the heels are looking to take Triple H out, and this could be a big hint that HHH might have a vacation to go to soon that will keep him out of the WWE for a bit.

Snitsky-Mania will be runnin' wild shortly!

SCARLET: Oh, come on, you don't think I'm gonna fall for that old trick?
WADSWORTH: It's not a trick. There was one shot at Mr. Boddy in the study. Two for the chandelier, two at the lounge door, and one for the singing telegram.
SCARLET:That's not six.
WADSWORTH: One plus two plus two plus one.
SCARLET:Nuh, uh. There was only one shot that got the chandelier. That's one plus two plus ONE plus one.
WADSWORTH: Even if you are right, that would be one plus one plus two plus one, not one plus TWO plus one plus one.
SCARLET:(thinking) Okay, fine. One plus two plus one--(angered) Shut up!

Oh, did anybody else notice the grotesque back acne Snitsky had going on when they showed him at the end of the show? HORRIBLE!

Either way, Whomever called Trish v Lita a "phenomenal" fued, what is so great about it? The story line is okay, but, no matches between the two as of late, and when they ARE in the ring together, one of them cant wrestle, or at least cant wrestle without Sabu level spot blowing.

"Oh, did anybody else notice the grotesque back acne Snitsky had going on when they showed him at the end of the show?"

It's all over his chest too and is quite disturbing.

"Whomever called Trish v Lita a "phenomenal" fued, what is so great about it?"

It's the best program of any of the matches at Survivor Series. Two people the crowd actually views as stars, in an anticipated match that has been held off and built towards since June, with a fantastic heel and a babyface that the crowd believes in and gets behind. Trish will be good enough to make the in-ring passable, but the point isn't for them having a great match, it's been a great feud and the best thing in the women's division since Trish was chasing the belt against Victoria two years ago. It's almost all due to Trish's work as a heel, but the fact that she actually has a really over opponent is what makes the difference.

Well, since you put it that way, I guess the match might be interesting, but, when you are a Molly fan like myself, Trish and Lita just dont hold your attention.

As far as the Trish/Lita feud goes, yeah, they've built it up for some time, and the crowd clearly knows who its supposed to to root for.

Lita is not great on the mic, but Trish seems to be trying too hard to carry her. Every time Trish opens her mouth, she starts with "And you know what...(Shatner pause)...."

I'm expecting more Snitsky taunts, then Kane's interference on his wife's behalf...possibly keeping Snitsy in limited action for the survivor series match. This would be a good way to protect exposing Snitsky, and get Flair on the PPV to give Maven someone to work with.

Lita wins, thanks to Kane, she learns to appreciate face Kane and then is torn when Matt ultimately returns.

Eddie Guerrero used to have the Bacne, and I think Kane had it so bad he used to have to cover up almost entirely in red. I wonder if they got to use better juice as their careers took off.

Just as a side note, back acne isn't always an indicator that someone's on steroids. You can get it very easily if you work out in a t-shirt...sweat accumulates, sticks to your shirt, and blocks your pores.

That being said, yeah. It's probably 'roids.
