The opening was the most original thing WWE has done in a long time. Thankfully it was just a spoof and had nothing to do with rest of the show.

The end was good too; HHH and Batista played very well. I thought the old man in the background of the ring trying to look like Ric Flair... what..that was Ric Flair? Oh, Ric Flair needs to retire. Hunter is still throwing the jabs at Batista in a very dickish way, so the split will surely happen soon. Hunter missed a golden line of "I asked for the ladies, not the WWE bitch" when Orton came onto the stage.

Fun show, Way to go Benoit!

I mean, I think most of us could see it would be a swerve with Batista, and that's fine. Sometimes there's nothing wrong with making things fairly obvious. And Batista was great, too; with HHH's one comment about "You still should have beat Jericho," it keeps the door open for a feud down the line. But I think there should be credit given where credit is due -- Triple H rocked last night.

I gotta agree with you Bulldog ... A friend of mine and I were talking after RAW went off and I told him that Triple H reminded me of the smart-ass dick Triple H, as opposed to the "I AAAAAMMMM THE GAAAAAMME" Triple H.

I was sure that once HHH denied Orton the match blindly, he would be booked into a match with Batista or Snitsky.

It would have been funny for Benoit to book:

1. HHH vs Snitsky, non-title
2. HHH vs Eugene and Regal, handicap, non-title
3. HHH vs Edge, non-title, if Edge loses, he gets the "Orton title-shot stipulation" for himself
4. HHH vs Batista, non-title, loser wears a dress for a month afterwards
5. HHH and Coachman vs La Resistance
6. HHH vs Trish in a bra and panties pillowfight match, non-title
7. HHH vs Viscera, non-title (because Viscera is really fat)
8. HHH vs Benoit, for the title

...and then have HHH retain on interference from Kevin Sullivan

If the match is booked, and then one participant can't make the match, shouldn't the other win the match by forfeit? Chris Benoit should be the NEW World Champion right now!! It's a conspiracy!!

Man, that opening vignette was great! When I saw Trish walk in wearing a towel I knew exactly what they were doing. However, I kind of rolled my eyes and went "Oh god, why this?" But, it ended up being one of the more entertaining things WWE has done in a long time. Sometimes, it's hard not to love Vince.

After that it became the standard Triple H ego-fuck, and it looks like we have at least two more weeks of the same with Raw is Orton and Raw is Jericho.

Oh, and Edge has been great lately. The second I started losing faith in him he turned heel and then has become one of the most entertaining guys in the company.

I'd like to know what diet Lita used this week. She looked like she dropped about ten pounds from all over. She hitched up her pants a bit but her face and jawline were much more defined.

I agree that Triple H's performance at the end of the show was brilliant stuff, including the quick, small comment moment to insult Batista's loss and tease real dissension.

Maven simple isn't working for me, and it's time to cut the losses. Anyone else could be brought up from OVW to fill the underdog role. Snitsky, while not a technical worker, is at least playing his role well -- the role of freaky big guy.

I'm a bit surprised as to the WWE letting Orton off the hook for so long. He had a quick match with Coach last week and no work on RAW this week. Isn't he the top face? Why the lack of spotlight?

I'm also confounded by Edge's story. I get that he's supposed to be a heel for claiming he deserves a title shot yet not win matches. But doesn't this bury him as a credible threat?

MOLLY GO ROUND! Can't remember the last time I saw that.

Raw was good. The opening segment was something right out of Attitude era, so I loved it. I'll admitt I didn't see the swerve coming with Batista, but HHH's line about beating Jericho planted the seed to the break-up. If HHH does beat everyone on Monday night, then I think we can safely assume no one is beating him till Wrestlemania. Jericho will get his shot next week, but after that it will be HHH/Orton cruise control. I honestly don't know who they will throw to the wolves for New Year's eve, Royal Rumble and No Way Out main events.

stupid going-out-on-a-limb time: As I predicted in another thread, I seriously think they're booking towards a Jericho title win in a coupla weeks' time. Why else would they leave his week 'til last? You have Batista and Hunter as the last two standing in next week's Battle Royal. Batista refuses to jump out himself, so Hunter and Flair cheat him out. THEN, next week he costs Hunter the title after pledging his allegiance to Evolution earlier on in he night. Voila! You have your New Year's Revolution tag team ME (Batista/Orton Vs. Flair/Hunter), plus title matches for both NYR and the Rumble (Jericho Vs. Benoit and/or Edge, Jericho dropping the strap back to Hunter). Do I think they'll go that way? I'm not sure....but to me it seems like the best nd most logical route. It freshens things up between now and 'Mania, it pays off the "HHH Vs. The World" storyline, and it provides a coupla viable main events to eat up time before Orton's megpush kicks back into gear.

Once upon a time in China, some believe, around the year one double-ought three, head priest of the White Lotus Clan, Pai Mei was walking down the road, contemplating whatever it is that a man of Pai Mei's infinite power contemplates - which is another way of saying "who knows" - when a Shaolin monk appeared, traveling in the opposite direction. As the monk and the priest crossed paths, Pai Mei, in a practically unfathomable display of generosity, gave the monk the slightest of nods. The nod was not returned. Now was it the intention of the Shaolin monk to insult Pai Mei or did he just fail to see the generous social gesture? The motives of the monk remain unknown. What is known, are the consequences. The next morning Pai Mei appeared at the Shaolin Temple and demanded of the Temple's head abbot that he offer Pai Mei his neck to repay the insult. The Abbot at first tried to console Pai Mei, only to find Pai Mei was inconsolable. So began the massacre of the Shaolin Temple and all 60 of the monks inside at the fists of the White Lotus. And so began the legend of Pai Mei's five point palm exploding heart technique.

I vote for oldschoolhero's idea. But because it both makes sense and would be entertaining, I don't see it happening.

RAW was actually a lot of fun last night; I haven't enjoyed a full episode in a while. Add me to the small minority who did not see the Evolution swerve coming...I figured, if anything, Flair was going to join Dave against HHH. Silly me, I should have known HHH was The Game!

Was Dave over or what, though? The fans were totally into his potential face turn, and will hopefully eat it up when it happens. He's definitely got a little bit of the look / charisma package. They kept that window open with Hunter's comment at the end, too. Actual long-term planning?

As to Randy's turn at GM next week, I thought that Option #2 would be a title match with HHH versus Batista. That can still happen in the battle royale, though.

Since Benoit was still the GM at the end of the show, why didn't he come out and restart the match once HHH revealed his master plan? Was he too "injured" from the cage match? That was one small logic gap that left me scratching my head at least a little bit...

I third for oldschoolhero's idea, but the simple truth is (from my conjecture) that they would sooner put the belt on Snitskey than Jericho.

Another possibility: Either next week, or at the beginning of Jericho's Raw, HHH and/or Evolution injures Jericho. Pitch it as HHH saying "I'm tired of these GMs screwing me over and gunning for my title ... so I'm gonna injure the next GM so he can't do the same." Then Jericho comes out and says "while doctors won't clear me to KICK YOUR ASS tonight and win back my title ... I'm still the GM. And so, as the main event for Raw Is Jericho, it'll be Triple H against -- BATISTA!" Does the same thing without having to have Jericho as an interim champ, and lets HHH keep his title for the Wrestlemania showdown with Orton that seems to be the plan.

Of course, they could have played up yesterday's injury as the reason he wasn't able to wrestle, but he showed up at the end of Raw. One potential flaw, though, is that it'd seem weird to give the guy who tried to injure him a title shot. Ah well.

I was at RAW LIVE last night. Some things:

As we were walking to the arena, some guys in the parking lot were pimping their wrestling radio show, and told us (through a megaphone) that Ricky Steamboat was backstage tonight. My friends and I were saying "Yeah, right" to each other.

Later, we were out by the wrestlers entrance. Mike Chioda signed autographs and some kid said he was there since 8 o'clock that morning and got a bunch of autographs...including Ricky Steamboat. We also saw Harvey Wippleman drive in with food and drinks. Steve Lombardi came out to help.

Prior to the show, the most heat was a couple of guys in the audience with Quebec flags. The most face heat was a guy with a sign that said "Bring back hockey." Then a "Bring back hockey" chant started up.

Dark Match: Mohammed Hassan v.s Cody Steele- Steele, apparently, is an area worker. Hassan got great heel heat (and the generic Middle-Eastern music ala Tiger Singh and Sultan). I cheered for Hassan, though.

Heat Matches: Tajiri v.s Steven Richards: Good match with good heat. Tajiri won.

Val Venis and Viscera each won squash matches, with Viscera's lasting like a minute.

Randy Orton beat Tyson Tomko. Yes, on Heat.

RAW:

The opening skit was EXCELLENT. I didn't get it at first, til' Vince came on. Line of the night: "Shelton, whether you realize it or not; you're an African-American."

The Snitsky/Maven match wasn't pretty. Little crowd heat too. Maven had to push himself on the mat to reach the ringpost when he was thrown into it.

All of the Hunter/Batista backstage segments were really well done.

Stacy was lucky- the t-shirt gun wasn't working earlier. The Simon Dean segment was okay....obvious feud with Hurricane coming.

The Batista/Jericho match was real disappointing.

Coach is actually well-built- sad to say, but I may be able to buy him as a wrestler.

The women's match was okay, nothing special. Again, little crowd heat.

The 6-man match was another one that was disappointing- should've gotten at least double the time it got.

I didn't see the swerve coming. At first, I thought Edge attacked Trips, forcing Benoit to not get a title shot. I also thought Batista may have done it, for obvious reasons. I think either one of those options would've been better than what actually played out.

Benoit v.s Edge was a pretty decent match. Interesting ending, too. Alot of the crowd left after this match, thinking it was the end of the show, but it was only 10:55.

The crowd was REALLY behind Batista that last segment. Good segment, but I don't like the Battle Royal idea, and I'm a man who likes his battle royals.

After the show cut out, all the wrestlers went down and brawled in the ring. Orton gave Trips two RKO's. Triple H afterward was selling like a champ, comically falling on the ref that helped him up the ramp several times.

After the show, we met my friend's dad, who was working security right in front of JR and the King. He said he got there at 5 o'clock, and saw them taping the Batista/Trips segments backstage at that time. As we talked and the arena was clearing out, Grisham and Coach came out to tape their segment at the desk for "Heat". I didn't know that's how they did it. My friend said "Nice match, Coach." He replied with a "Thanks" with a tone that said "Why are these kids still here/Where's security?"

All in all, a good time was had by all, but I was disappointed by the crowd heat. How did it come off on TV?

I enjoyed RAW is Benoit, pretty much ditto to most of the above.

Sorry, but I saw the Batista swerve from the moment the 2 diva rejects were backstage talking about him and HHH having heat. But they did play it really well.

For some reason, I thought to myself, "Wow Batista is really on tonight - his mic skills have improved bigtime" but now I wonder since most of his backstage segments were pre-taped.

I liked Maven trying to show off some skill, and psychology by working the red-eyed, baby killer's leg, but it was clear he's still not quite ready.

Will Kane be back next week in the Battle Royal? How about HBK?

I'd like to see Jericho as GM strip HHH of the title, then trade him to Smackdown for Kurt Angle, to set up the Angle-HBK mania feud. I know it'll never happen. Jericho will probably waste his time dealing with Trish, Christian, Edge, and Tomko.

Q. What was better - Simon Dean being told off by Stacy, or Edge being told he's an also ran? A. PUSH, or should I say FLUSH to both of them. I think Hurricane jobs to Simon Dean first, before Rosey flattens him.

I hope they let the Battle Royal go a full hour next week. They'll likely have some diva shit, Simon Dean crap, Smackdown rebound feces, and a bullshit ending to a watchable Battle Royal, but HHH retains after sneaking out of the ring early (not eliminated), then he'll come back after Batista has done most of the eliminations.

RAW is predictable, but can still be fun

I'd just like to add this may have been the first time a t-shirt gun has been shown on TV when no one was later blasted in the midsection.

I too was at Raw live last night.

I was there at 9:00 AM waiting for wrestlers to arrive. There were 20 production trucks there and at one point there were 3 parked on the street waiting to unload.

The wrestlers started arriving at about 11:00. One of the referees, Jack Doan, told us that they all had to be there by 3. Triple H was the first one there. There were a lot of fans in the back and we were all surprized when Ricky The Dragon Steamboat showed up. It very cool to see how the wrestlers act when they arent in character.

"As we were walking to the arena, some guys in the parking lot were pimping their wrestling radio show, and told us (through a megaphone) that Ricky Steamboat was backstage tonight. My friends and I were saying "Yeah, right" to each other."

Thats the Big Mosh and he hosts a local wrestling show.

I thought the show was pretty good. No pyro for HeAt though.

I dont know why Victoria wasnt in the women's match. She was backstage and didnt appear injured.

Cody Steele, who worked the Dark match, is indeed a local wrestler for ESW--Empire State Wrestling.

Yeah, right, I'm supposed to believe that. Next thing you'll be telling me that wrestling is fake!

Either way, I guess you can count me among those who feel Batista has gotten a whole lot better since his deacon days with D'Von. Learning from Hunter and Ric certainly didn't hurt.
