Hope I'm not stepping on anyone toes here, but this was a long show with a lot of skippable parts in the middle.

The three segments that mattered:

1) Batista demanded Triple H give him his title shot, HHH said no, Batista quit.

2) Stephanie announced Daniel Bryan (who did not appear) would have to defend his title against Kane at Money In the Bank in a stretcher match. If Daniel can't wrestle, the title will instead be put up on the line in the MitB match.

3) a Randy Orton versus Roman Reigns match never took place. HHH brought out his sledgehammer, Seth Rollins got chairs to counter him - but instead used them to attack Reigns and Ambrose. Seth Rollins is part of a new Evolution.

They need to do something with the middle parts of these Raws to make them less draining. I almost bailed and went to bed early several times and would have missed that sell out backstabber Seth Rollins shock The Universe.

I'm glad it was him though, and not Reigns. Rollins is going to need the extra rub more and Reigns/Ambrose are going to be fun to watch on their own. I hope they just stay a party of two for awhile.

I'm sick of non title matches.

I'm also sick of John Cena ruining things by sticking his nose where it doesn't belong while making no sense.

I'll never get sick of Batista getting pissy and quitting things though.

I thought we were done with Del Rio for a while. I guess he's just there to take up room in the MITB match. Hopefully, it's filled with Cesaro and... I dunno, some other guys, but hopefully Cesaro is in there and wins it.

Other than that, the three segments that mattered at least moved things further along than they were two months ago. Batista is pretty good at quitting things and I thought he at least left in an interesting way that made sense.

I'm glad Rollins was the one to turn heel, even though Ambrose is such a better natural heel. My guess is that the Shield totally disbands and Reigns and Ambrose don't last long together, if at all.

It's weird that they can't figure it out. Although even Nitro had a hard time with it when they had a deeper roster. One of the things I will say about how WCW did it was that they had enough divisions to have made it work.

Structurally, they have the right idea. You have a strong opening segment that defines the main storyline for the evening, then at each hour break, you have a meaningful segment happen and end with some sort of climax to the action in the main event.

The problem is what they fill those hours with and the lack of inspired midcard feuds.

Oh, the champion got pinned in a midcard title match? That's very original. This is one of the things WWE2K14's plot autopilot in WWE Universe got accurate. Remember when two people feuded because Andre the Giant was afraid of a snake? Where'd that kind of deep storytelling go?

I agree that Rollins turning was a good move. Reigns is obviously being pushed as the big monster face and Ambrose turning was obvious. Rollins was a nice surprise choice, could use the rub and can very easily turn back when they need him to. Ambrose is being used the least here but I still think he's the most talented of the three and will always be entertaining even if he's not being pushed like the other two.

To clarify on BigDaddy's Cena comments, Cena decided to defend Daniel Bryan's decision to not hand over the title. It didn't really make sense since A) Cena has nothing to do with this angle B) Cena has given away the title for an injury before and C) the crowd hates Cena and defending Bryan gets Bryan heat, not cheers. Steph made Cena wrestle Kane and Cena wins my DQ which almost certainly means we'll get to see this again.

The only other interesting thing was that Bray Wyatt was not present so Harper/Rowan went at it alone against The Usos. If Wyatt is going to be gone to sell the Last Man Standing Match than this is a good time for the Wyatts to go after the tag titles and they started that by Harper and Rowan getting a non-title win.

As for the other boring middle parts
- Nikki Bella was forced to wrestle Alicia and Aksana in a handicap match and she lost.
- Bo Dallas and Kofi got a rematch from last night, which Bo won
- Goldust tagged with Sin Cara since Cody told him to find a new partner and they lost to Rybaxel
- Barrett/Cesaro lost to RVD/Sheamus when Cesaro walked out
- Paige beat Cameron
- Sandow dresses as Lance Stephenson
- Matadores beat 3MB, Hornswoggle had a wig but it was torn off
- Adam Rose beat Swagger
- For some reason there was a ceremony for Rusev
- And as Justin said, Del Rio beat Ziggler in the first MitB qualifying match. Fuck that.

I am faaaaaar from a Cena fan, but I thought the segment actually made sense. Cena drew a compelling comparison to himself giving away the title while knowing he'd get a shot to get it back -- and why Daniel Bryan is different, because with The Authority in charge he knows he's not likely to get a fair shot.

With this segment, they were able to show why Daniel Bryan should be different than all the other champions who were forced to give up the title due to injury. They're setting him apart and making for a rational explanation why he's doing what he's doing when so many others did what he's refusing.

And from what I could tell, it was less Daniel Bryan getting heat because Cena was defending him and more Cena getting bigger pops when he defended Daniel Bryan and attacked Stephanie.

I think John Cena is the only guy on the roster who could kayfabe get away with talking to Steph like that and who could also make the point they were trying to make. If they have Daniel Bryan say it, it's whining. Someone who was in the same situation and acted differently saying that he understands Daniel Bryan's actions? Good storytelling, in my eyes.

Oh man...

They'd better have one hell of an explanation for somebody turning on his friends to join an old, broken-down faction that they had single-handedly been dominating for months. This makes SO little sense, my head is spinning.

Good lord this show sucked with the exception of Bootista quiting, the Wyatt Family v. Usos match (the Usos had a funny pre-match interview too), and the first defect from The Shield. At one point I just saw Rusev standing on a podium for some goddamn reason turned the sound off, and decided to play Virtua Fighter 5 until the main event.

Didn't Rollins leave Reigns and Ambrose alone in a match several months ago? At the time it was to stop the in-fighting between the two, but now the story may be that Rollins is more ruthlessly ambitious than his brothers. Maybe Triple H gave him a backdoor offer then but Rollins changed his mind out of guilty conscience. After Payback Trips may have gotten desperate and offered the world to him.

Evolution may be a broken down faction that got killed by The Shield many times, but in the end Trips has the money and can give him instant title matches.

Put it like this: Rollins watched the Authority run Punk out of the WWE as he tried to rise to the top. Rollins watches (and takes part in) The Authority beat Daniel Bryan every week because he just wanted to be Heavyweight Champion. Now Bryan as Champ is still being hounded by Steph who tries to break Bryan's neck and tries to break his spirit by forcing his wive to quit.

If Rollins planned on safely getting his main event spot which looks easier? Staying with your two buddies and having to constantly fight a bigger angrier Vince Jr. (as well as Triple H, Hi-yooooo) his endless supply of goons, and a guy who thinks he's a demon?

Or would you rather get the bigger checks, have the approval of the two future owners of the company as they possibly turn you into a Sith version of the current World Heavyweight Champion? I'm really intrigued on where we go with The Shield from here. The day I have been looking forward to and dreading is here...

...I may have to change my sig soon.

Yeah, what the hell was that about?

I thought this RAW was worth watching just for:

Batista doing the "Queen wave" to the crowd.

Bo Dallas jumping out of the ring shortly after the match starts with his arms raised in the air as he runs around the ring excitedly screaming "I'M WINNING !!!!!"

Rollins stunning me and everyone in that crowd as he turned on The Shield. Nobody saw it coming as the crowd rained down "YOU SOLD OUT" chants at him.

HHH isn't an "old broken down" guy, he's the boss of the whole company. Seth's seen what happens when you beat the Authority - they just keep going after you until they get what they want. There's nothing stopping them, and there's no real way to truly, finally win. So he jumps ship when HHH makes him an offer he can't refuse.

And on top of that, Seth has been the twitchiest of the three all year. He was the one willing to abandon the other two to make a point back in March. He was the one who punched Ambrose to clear his head. He's the one who gets overlooked, and yet he's also the one who has turned things around in crucial matches. I'm kind of amazed people are a)so down on this and b)saying it makes little sense. I'm bummed that Rollins turned on his friends, but isn't that the point? This is a legit shocking heel turn that makes sense and pushes things off in new directions.

The rest of the show veered between average and trash, though.

I thought this RAW was marginally better than the past two weeks, which really isn't saying a whole hell of a lot. I did end up skipping the majority of the 2nd hour because I missed Cosmos on Sunday and I can't pass up Neil DeGrasse Tyson putting climate deniers in their place.

Bootista quitting wasn't really a surprise, I've been hearing from lots of people around here that Batista's been planning to leave so he can promote Guardians. Rollins' turn at the end of the show, though, WAS a surprise. The Shield seemed damn near unstoppable after eliminating Evolution 3-0 last night, which makes this a hell of a time for them to pull the trigger on a Shield implosion. I hope this spawns more singles matches for Reigns and Ambrose, but they continue to have each others' backs for at least a while. Meanwhile Rollins becomes the latest member of Evolution and a likely challenger for Bryan to face at SummerSlam.

Not to be the one to say "I told you so" in regards to Stephanie not stripping the title off Bryan, but ... I did. It was a little odd having Cena come out to defend DB, but that was probably the most solid face heat he's had in awhile, and it gives him something to do besides continue to fight Bray. It looks like the plan for now is to do the Stretcher Match at MitB, with the backup plan being to make the ladder match for the belts, in case Daniel's recovery ends up taking longer than expected.

Speaking of Money in the Bank, I was surprised and disappointed to see Ziggler buried in favor of someone who's publicly said they don't plan to renew their contract, and who the crowd is pretty solidly behind. Never let it be said that the McMahon's aren't afraid of ignoring what's "best for business" in the name of petty revenge ... which come to think of it is what the whole Authority vs Bryan angle has been about. Art imitates life and all that.

In short, let me echo the sentiments of Justin and Quezzy: Fuck that.

It continues to befuddle me what the hell they're doing with Sandow. Having him come out in a different random costume each week is a good way of getting him cheap heat, I guess, but I don't really see where it's going past Al Snow's J.O.B. Squad 2.0. And hey, the Big Show still works here! Let's have him come out for no particular reason and punch him. Yay?

I skipped the Rusev thing, especially after Vince played the politics card and tried to use Snowden for cheap heat. Fortunately it flopped on them and the Indy crowd seemed more confused than anything. Stick to Putin, guys, he's an ACTUAL villain who has enough name recognition.

I don't really get what they're doing with the Rhodes brothers ... yeah, Cody has been on a losing streak, but unless he's planning on becoming Goldust's manager I don't really see where the 'let's find my brother a partner who doesn't suck' thing is going. If it's going to lead to a brother vs brother feud, there's less bizarre ways to go about it.

I thought the opening tag match between Shaemus/RVD and Cesaro/BNB was pretty entertaining, not a ***** match by any means but definitely worth watching.

I'm kinda wondering why Daniel Bryan and Bray Wyatt were conspicuous by their absence this week ... DB I can understand, since he can't do much more than talk at this point. Maybe they wanted to give Bray a night off to sell the beating he took at Payback.

Overall, a strong opening and closing segment with a few good matches and a lot of meh in between. At least it's an improvement over the last few weeks ...

I am putting on my optimistic hat here. The more I think about this, the more I see that there really isn't much more the Shield could do or prove together at this point without it becoming stale. We got spoiled with the Shield running roughshod over everyone and everything for longer than I thought we would. Now we get to be spoiled with Bryan vs Rollins, Roman vs HHH, and hey, here's a great thought for a future feud - Bray vs Dean. The upper midcard just got a lot more crowded.

If nothing else, we can start the countdown to their reformation in 10 years.

Man, Batista is so unique in that he is the most entertaining when he's quitting. Now I want him to stay, but then he would suck again. So frustrating.

I have no problem with Rollins turning heel. But, IMO, it's stupid for him to turn heel to join Evolution. So you were frustrated by the Shield's bickering before? Or maybe you want to have more of a lead role? Well, Seth, you just left the Shield to join a faction where one guy just quit because he was frustrated and the leader of your group is the COO of the company.

Kudos to HHH for never losing face, though. The only way this would pay off for me is if Rollins de-pantsed HHH in the middle of the ring next week. One can dream... or Bolieve.

So, they took one of the three good things about this show and blow it up for the thing that has been killing this show since August. Ok, then. I am sure Rollins will get a nice push out of this, but in the end we all know who is going to get the real push out of this faction. I would have waited til SummerSlam and made it someone other than HHH killing off something awesome.

Cena is an ass hat. Going through that segment was a lot of Cena did the right thing, Bryan isn't and sure I guess that is ok, but again I did the right thing for the fans. Yes, the fans who boo me out of the arena each week.

Ziggler's best bet is to wait and see if Punk decides to join in his buddy, MVP, in TNA or go to Japan or whatever gets him out of this company. So, he too can take advantage of the returning star who gets pushed to the moon while the every day guys who bust their ass get to play fifth fiddle.

I might be able to get into Batista's line at Wizard World Philly with all the fan bashing he is doing. Might try to get all the Marvel guys to sign a poster if I have any money after the Doctor and Amy Pond stuff.
