While that is ideal, I think it's perfectly fine if Bryan wins the belts at Elimination Chamber and successfully defends against Batista at WrestleMania XXX. It worked out well for Eddie 10 years ago to beat Brock then defend against Angle.

Yeah, it's much better if he's christened at WrestleMania as champion, but really, with the way things are in WWE right now, Batista has turned into the greater threat than Orton to the things the fans hold dear. Bryan/Batista has a great underdog champion quality to it (a la Hogan/Andre) that'll click if they went that direction.

I'm just trying to make chicken salad here, but changing the Rumble winner and with the EC match already seemingly-booked up with Bryan in it, it's too convoluted to make Bryan the challenger at WrestleMania XXX now.

Bryan does not need to win the title at Mania if Extreme Rules is in Seattle. That's where you pull the trigger on him. The goal for Mania should be for Bryan to finally get his huge victory over the Authority. If Triple H is already busy with Punk, then...as much as I hate to say it...it may be time for Hell No to explode.

With that said, I honestly don't know what you do with the title at Mania, because Randy Orton is not (and continues not to be) the answer. They teased it last night, so they might as well pull the trigger on Brock/Batista, because the idea of them going at it in a quasi-MMA style just sounds delicious. I have zero clue what you do with Undertaker at that point, though.

The great thing about that scenario is that there's a lot of great possibilities. The problem with WWE isn't that they lack the talent, it's that they're pairing the talent up in the least interesting matchups.

Undertaker/Bryan and Undertaker/Cena are both probably the two most interesting streak matches right now. I would even be okay with an Undertaker/Bray "Typical Undertaker Faces Monster" streak match.

The more I think about it, the less Taker/Lesnar interests me. It would be yet another match Lesnar loses to where the guy doesn't need the win.

That would be a good fix. Batista comes out and arrogantly states "I don't want to go into WrestleMania the challenger -- I want to go in as the CHAMP. I want my title match at the Elimination Chamber." So that happens and the EC match becomes for the #1 contendership between the six men in the main event last night. Heck, make the title match a three-way with Lesnar included also. Presto-changeo, perfecto! Maybe even gives Randy Orton a feud with Lesnar as well afterwards. That could be interesting if they bring out some reality -- "every record you set in WWE for being youngest this, youngest that -- I BEAT."

So they played Bryan's music at the end, not Cena's, eh? Should we read anything into that?

I read it as if they had played Cena's music, the crowd would have shit all over them.

I think WWE would've liked to run their Wrestlemania as planned and maybe give Bryan the title at Extreme Rules to shut everyone up, but the Rumble backfired so badly on Batista that he's already been poisoned, and something's going to give. Poor Dave is practically already a heel -- kind of feel bad for him since he could've been a well-received returning babyface if he was doing anything else, but they brought it on themselves. The crowd hijackings have been increasingly tense negotiations, and at the Rumble, they shot a hostage. Unfortunately, it had to be done to get their attention.

I'll say Bryan and Orton do a double pin at the Chamber, or Bryan gets screwed YET AGAIN and does something radical like put his career on the line on Network Launch Night to win his way into a threeway title match at Wrestlemania.

Now, they could just as easily have Sheamus screw him at the end of the Chamber and stick with the plan, but after the RR, I don't think WWE has the stones to send Batista vs. Orton out there to die each week for eight weeks and bottom out in front of a stadium full of people. I am fully prepared to be wrong, and fully prepared to find what happens instead very funny.

I'm quite happy we'll get that Shield/Wyatts match before the break-up. The Shield's outrage at their plight was wonderful.

Zeb slapping Swagger seems like the kind of thing where it's ultimately a double-doublecross on Cesaro to turn him. Unless we're building to a Hogan/Swagger posedown.

Usos pinning Ryback tells me Usos are getting the belts soon and Ryback isn't wrestling Goldberg, Warrior, Sting, or perhaps anyone at Wrestlemania.

He tried playing up to the three, doing Sheamus' pose, then doing Cena's salute, then doing the "Yes" gesture (while we roared "NO!"). He even kneeled down and kissed Bryan's boots! All three gave him their finishers to send everyone home happy.

That sounds glorious.

On the other hand, we all like heel Batista, and I desperately want #BOOtista to be a thing that sticks around.

When Sheamus ran down on Monday, I was yelling at my TV for him to do the turn right then and there. The rest of the 3 hours would've been glorious rebellion as soon everyone (who apparently know everything now) realized that meant they were sticking with Sheamus/Bryan.

There were many breathless reports yesterday about the show being rewritten late in the day. The New Age Outlaws vs Cody/Goldust being the top of the hour match (and Brock not turning up until many minutes after the hour) seemed to verify that; they didn't have their anchor matches as well placed as they usually do. Maybe they'll catch their breath over the weekend.

There is an easy chicken salad solution...

Money In The Bank

I'd make it Bryan, Kane, Sheamus, Kofi Kingston, Bray Wyatt, Reigns and Rollins. Have Bryan leading up to it swear to cash in that night. Go forward with Orton/Batista so that the chants they are going to get anyway actually make sense. Batista wins and after the match when Bryan tries to run down with the briefcase, he gets sledgehammered.

Ha! Only rain today - people were really on my case for wearing shorts, but 47 is above the pants/shorts delineation line for me. (Wind + rain DOES make 47 feel much colder, however.)

This has been a bad week to not experience Twitter in real time. I'm sorry I didn't have anything hilarious for the Punk thread. I thought about rehashing Sid 6.7's quote one more time ("Well...that's Reality for ya") but it didn't seem to work on enough levels.
