I was cooking and missed some of the audio. But even when Ziggler was in the ring and pointing to the briefcase, I was sure the trainer was going to say Rio couldn't compete. Until the ref counted three, I would have bet Ziggler was going to lose. I was overjoyed to hear his music and went into skeptical mode almost immediately. And then I was overjoyed when the pinfall worked. I was afraid to keep my hopes up.

You're crazy; if that happened, then the show would have some random throwaway match in an other packed and important show, like a 3MB trios match.

I agree with you both that this is where he would have gone had he not blinked and chickened out, but I guess what I was more thinking about was which, of the things that happened before that segment, was the one crowd moment where he realized they were going to kill him and ordered them to find whichever three guys were around to go do a match against 3MB. I'm assuming it's probably the same point during Sheamus/Orton where the commentary team suddenly starts calling the crowd instead of the match, but I can't remember the exact chain of events/what chant must have been the dealbreaker.

Rewatching the whole cash-in segment again gave me an even greater appreciation for how well they made that segment work. Letting Del Rio get just enough to make the crowd believe (twice!) in three minutes that Ziggler was going to choke was brilliant to both get that final reaction when Ziggler won and make Del Rio look great in defeat. You can see Ziggler leaning in to talk to Del Rio a few times before some specific spots (like the corner kick), so I'm wondering if the two of them were sent out there ahead of time and told to make it that competitive, or if Ziggler just read the crowd that well and made it that much better on the fly.

They had a fantastic match on Main Event in February. They got a lot of time and were throwing themselves around like a PPV.

What made the whole thing scary for me is the moment Dolph's music kicked in, JBL wouldn't shut up about how Ziggler was going to be the new champ. Got to the point that I thought we were going to see Ziggler lose because Bradshaw kept saying he was going to win. The competitiveness of the match made that possibility even greater in my mind. What a great segment.

I got the impression he was deliberately baiting the anti cena portion of the crowd on Raw, I mean he pretty much came out and gloated about beating the Rock, I'm surprised no-one else has noticed this. Watch the segment again, notice how all those classic Cena mannerisms (that air of smugness, that grinning) that infuriate portions of the crowd were there on full display on Monday, but turned up to 11?

Wrestlemania was a clever swerve by Vince, he feeds the internet stories about being 'open to turning Cena heel', and has Cena cut heelish promos, then, at Wrestlemania, nothing happens. And now listen to everyone ''never going to turn heel, wrestlemania was the perfect opportunity, Vince blew it, ect ect'' no-one is realistically talking about it now, By swerving us by *not* swerving us, VKM has completely killed talk of it.

WWE are booking this in very clever manner, not formally turning Cena but having him push the mannerisms and expressions that infuriate portions of the crowd to new levels. I think Cena is going to slowly let the glory of beating the rock go to his head over the next few months.

Hey, If I'm wrong, then I'm wrong, but I think we could be in for a much more interesting year than we think.

Come on it's pro wrestling. Did Andre really weigh 700 lbs? Does Jeff Hardy weigh 215 lbs? Was Goldberg really 190 and 0? Those things are "truths" that wrestling tells it's fans. Same with the Silverdome attendance "record".
