Nice brawl to start the show. At least we didn't waste a lot of time with what I thought was going to be a Heyman humiliation. We got a whole bunch of blood that they just couldn't hide, and Triple H looked like he had an accident. I'm not going to care for the talking between the parties for the next six weeks though.
The problem I have with the We The People segment, other than it is trying too hard, is it just isn't interesting television.
Speaking of which the whole middle part of this show just seemed to go on forever.
I liked the last match. I didn't like the outcome, but whatever CM Punk piledrove Cena's ass.
Can Lawler even eat Sonic?
(edit: Am I the only one who thought it would be funny if they cut out on Cena/Punk on the overrun as another way to further push their freaking app?)
Good lord. Nothing at Wrestlemania is going to be as good as Cena vs. Punk tonight. The only match they've ever had that was any better was Chicago. The best match on Raw in a really long time. Better than Jericho/Punk, better than ... I can't even remember the last time they did a MOTY level main event on Raw.
Undertaker returns during a Lesnar & Punk attack on Triple H?
On the precipice of Sheamus vs. Barrett in a Hollywood Back Lot Brawl, we get the theoretical first angle to set up my desired Shield vs. Ryback/Sheamus/Orton match. Which would mean no Ryback/Jericho, which would free up Jericho to wrestle Ziggler, which all sounds most welcome. That just leaves Mark Henry vs. Big Show (teased tonight with Henry wiping the mat with a giant?) and that would take care of the top of the card.

Punk/Cena is this generation's Rock/Austin, only they're never able to save it for WrestleMania, where it belongs. I can't blame them, since Rock/Cena is such a cash cow, but I don't think this being the rivalry of present-times has gone unnoticed. The crowd is electric every time these two go at it and the chemistry is all there.
So, yeah, it's RematchaMania, but at least they've paced out the stories and have been clearly building to this card for the last few months. I'd rather have that than a show where everything just feels randomly thrown together because they had no foresight.
It's hard to say whether it'll be a good show or not, and obviously we won't know until it happens, but Rock/Cena II has less intrigue than last year's bout since Cena's likely winning, I don't really care to see HHH get his win back, and Undertaker's streak probably isn't going to end. The right endings? Maybe, but I hope something crazy happens. At least, I hope Ziggler cashes in (win or lose). I don't think that's too much to ask.
But yeah, Cena/Punk delivered something of WrestleMania quality with significantly less hype and for free. Great job. I hope they take the ether from this match and apply it to whatever they're doing at Mania.
That's the best TV main event I've seen since...the last time we saw Cena/Punk on free TV, only this time we actually had a decisive ending, instead of a baloney Big Show run-in finish. It's really remarkable how much they continue to add to their matches, with the piledriver and Cena-canrana both coming into play! Cena's 'rana into the AA was a REALLY cool way to freshen up his finishing sequence and I'd love to see it again sporadically.
In short, I want Cena/Punk: One Last Time as my Wrestlemania XXX main event. Can that please happen?
The rest of the show was..............yeah. Gotta love that Swagger and Colter were in no less than THREE segments tonight! Yeah, that DUI arrest isn't going to mean jack (no pun intended). Del Rio did very well carrying his end of the promo and he's going to make a great Latino face of the company. I actually feel kinda bad for Rey, because this used to be the role he shined in so well and Del Rio's just taken it by the horns.
Del Rio: "If you work hard, anything is possible!" YEAH! Isn't that right, Zack Ryd...oh...no. Um...isn't that right Cody Rho...no, that's another bad example. Um...isn't that right Prime Time...no, no, they don't work, either. Isn't that right, Kofi King...dammit, not him either. Um...isn't that right, Jack Swagger, who hasn't been on TV in six months and comes back to a rocket strapped firmly in his ass? Yeah, that's right.
Really odd to leave Ryback out of that Shield segment, since he has nothing else going on. There's no way he gets left out of this match, is there?
Hunter should have stayed underground for a little while to let his hair grow back. That hair style is just jarring. H/Lesnar II is all but official, so the only question is, do we get a gimmick match?

Amen. I may just have been in the right mood when I watched it, but tonight's main struck me as one of the best RAW matches ever. Even the Chicago match between them was probably only elevated by the atmosphere, I don't know that it was technically better.
So Zeb's a great talker. Del Rio...was in a border state. So that kinda worked.
Good Lord, is there anyone Seamus isn't feuding with? RAW may be three hours, but if you skip commercials, movie trailers, "earlier tonights", meandering entrances, at least two filler matches, excessive replays, & dreadful comedy, it's like 38 minutes.
Wow, yeah the middle they really gotta work on that. There is enough talent on the roster and enough stories going on to better fill the middle. The book ends were great though.
BLOOD, lots of BLOOD! I'm not looking forward to the Brock/HHH but I don't hate the idea. Tonight they at least made the fire for the unbooked match seem real. The Mania match, if tonight is any indication, should b a good brawl. We'll see how it goes though....still have six weeks to further/lose my interest.
Cena/Punk was just about as awesome as it gets. No doubt it will be a MOTY contender for 2013. I don't like Cena beating Punk but it was the right way to go. I really don't care to see PunkRock again and CM Punk has the ability to make his Mania match the real main event regardless of who he fighting. I mean c'mon he is God.
Well, it will be an early Mania night. As soon as Punk went on his rant, I figured he would lose. Hopefully, he ends the streak, because nothing else on that card screams Wrestlemania moment. Its two guys getting their wins back who really don't deserve it. WWE keeping Swagger's push while the police are advocating jail time is probably one of the stupidest things they could do right now. Go all in on bland Kurt Angle. What the hell happened to Ziggler? He was red hot now he is just canon fodder. He has become an after thought.
The Wee Baby Sheamus.Twitter: @realjoecarfley its a bit more toned down there. A bit.
The opening and closing segments would've perfectly bookended a two hour show, but even their awesomeness couldn't stop the show from dragging in the middle (Sky+ x30 disease)
Ironically, the one place Cena doesn't suck is in the ring, now I grant you that he has major issues with selling other wrestlers moves, but apart from that, he's come a long way since 2006 with his move-set, and when he's actually trying, he can silence the more hostile crowds when he shuts up, gets in the ring and actually proves that he can wrestle, It's when he opens his gob that he tends to alienate a good portion on the fan-base.
His obnoxious persona is the big problem here, and if he'd showed some evolution on that front in the past 7 years, then I think WWE might be in a position where they could've actually had him go over The Rock clean as a good guy last year, without having the crowd do a massive turd all over it.
As it is, Cena will probably get his win this year, and the crowd will piss all over it, no matter how hard WWE try to sell Cena as the 'underdog' in the build up.
I can see the next night on Raw already, the Crowd will be more spit than before, the booing will get louder, and VKM will no doubt get more stubborn about *not* turning him heel.
Beyond a hot start and that incredible main event, this was an AWFUL show.
Beyond the matches we know they're building towards for Mania, everything else in is a directionless mess. It really highlights how poorly they've handled the entirety of the midcard. Really, why should anyone care about that loser the Miz challenging that loser Cesaro for a US title that he's essentially been beaten for multiple times now? And is there any reason why we should give a crap that R Truth is back to help out his loser friend Kofi against the loser tandem of Sandow and Rhodes? PPV loser Ryback at least got to be a winner against the BIGGEST loser this side of Zack Ryder. Ziggler should just hand over his briefcase in shame at this point.
He may as well ditch AJ and Langston for the Prime Time Players, who must surely be a matter of mere months away from being unveiled as the newest Aces and Eights members.
Then there's the other secondary title-holder Barrett, who gets to be bullied by Mr Be a Star himself, Sheamus. Why exactly should the fans cheer for Sheamus? It makes zero sense, even beyond the fact that Barrett is so clearly beneath him on the food chain. If that wasn't bad enough, it looks like Sheamus is keeping his programme with The Shield (who looked like dopes last night) going at the same bloody time.
On a show LOADED with recaps and an unbearable amount of shoe-horned movie trailers, there wasn't enough time to at least get Mark Henry's entrance? On a show like this, it would have been in the top 5 highlights.
So yeah, beyond Lesnar and HHH having a great confrontation to start and that incredible match between Punk and Cena, this show was entertainment death. It'll be interesting to see how they transition Punk to whatever is next, though him coming off a series of losses will not help his credibility, especially if he is taking on Taker at WM.
With Cena/Rock and Del Rio/Swagger a foregone conclusion and the outcome of HHH/Lesnar essentially meaningless, there really isn't much they can book for Mania that will really appeal or intrigue. If Taker wrestles, he will win. There's no clear opponent for Henry yet. Ziggler is a joke, so even if he and Jericho have a great match, him winning would seem more of a fluke than anything. On the bright side, The Shield should get to destroy another trio of bland top faces, at least.
I don't have much to add beyond what everybody else has already said; blood in the opener and a piledriver in the closer, and a bunch of crap in between. The booking of last night's show was a complete mess, with half the roster getting absolutely buried in clean losses. Ziggler and Cesaro's losses were especially jarring. But the thing that bothers me the most is this weird feud between Sheamus and Barrett. So they're feuding over Barrett being in a movie opposite Colin Farrel (because he's Irish see!), which by itself is incredibly stupid. But Wade Barrett is the Intercontinental Champion! Why not have them feud over the Intercontinental Championship? Wade spent like ten minutes last night talking about how Sheamus is jealous, and did not once mention that he is a champion. It's incredibly frustrating to me.

I would presume they're getting there eventually (unless Sheamus is facing The Shield at Mania?) but this would be the third different direction they've pushed Barrett and his title towards this year. There was the Intercontinental Cup that never happened, and apparently Bo Dallas fell off the face of the Earth rather quickly...
Also isn't the 'E sort of shooting themselves in the foot with this angle, mocking the fact that most of their new crop of films that "star" their Superstars just have them in supporting, minor roles? (i.e. - Where the heck is Otunga in The Call?)
If it weren't for Sheamus' rep as the next big star and his backstage connections, I'd swear the guy was getting buried. He loses his world title in ignominious fashion to Big Show, of all people, and then subsequently jobs to Show on the next few PPVs. Then he comes close but loses the Rumble, loses to the Shield and now is in a feud for the Intercontinental Title, which is next to meaningless in 2013.

I think in this case it's okay since it's Barrett who is boasting he's the "star" of this movie and saying it will put him in the Hollywood A-List. WWE's take is just, "hey, here's an upcoming movie that Wade Barrett happens to be in."

-Two problems I had with this "Match of the Year" candidate.. 1)Cena gets a GTS, a Piledriver, put in the Anaconda Vice twice (all supposedly Final Limit moves) and the end is him flipping around in the Hurri-CENA-rana, and a rushing AA...everything I hate about Cena matches
2) Two commercial breaks!!!
But I loved that Punk had a counter for every single one of Cena's "Five moves of doom!"
The thing I used to love about Wrestlemania was the fact that it seemed like it was the culmination of a year's worth of storytelling (or at least 3 months worth.) This one seems like a 2 match card with everyone else just finding a place on the card and hope we can fit it in.

Agreed. Great angle to start, great match to finish, but absolutely horrible for the seventeen hours in between. Movies movies movies tout tout tout tweet tweet tweet app app app hashtag sonic tots arda ocal fuck right off. The saddest part of every Monday night is when my DVR catches up to real time. Someday I'll learn to not even bother starting until two hours into the broadcast. Pretty sure I've said this exact same thing word-for-word before.
Swagger suckers Miz: "This just happened moments ago, and you could have seen it with the WWE app. Or you can see it right now." So I don't need the app, you're saying?
Zeb started to tease that Del Rio or maybe Ricardo was here illegally, and that went nowhere fast, leaving this angle as We The People vs. Nosotros El Publico (Viva La Rest of Y'all?). There's no reason for the title to be involved here. You can have Ziggler take that title tonight, and Del Rio/Swagger has the same angle. In fact, I advocate this, and Ziggler seems to be backing his way into a title run. For crying out loud, Jack, Antonio Cesaro is RIGHT THERE. With the US TITLE. And he's a furiner!

Since the usual suspects (Meltzer et al) appear to have let this news pass them by, I thought I'd post it here. It appears that Hell in a Cell drew approximately 210,000 buys and Bragging Rights drew approx. 140,000 buys.
