Actually J.R. announced before the match it was non-title, if I'm not mistaken so did The Fink, and J.R. also mentioned it was non-title several times during the contest. Yes, they did stop short of blinking "non-title" on the screen throughout the match, but I'm pretty confident still that it was non-title.

You need to talk to this 'all accounts' fella, because he had it all wrong.

Well, it's not like I actually watched Heat or anything... Blame the 411Wrestling guy. I was just happy to see that Molly still has the thing.

Random RAW Thoughts -

Bang, bang! Footage of Foley taking it to Orton. I didn't get the Rumble, so that was nice to see.

Jericho wants to use his SurSer favour tonight! He wants a title shot, and when he wins the belt, he'll defend it from Arizona to South Dakota to Virginia to West Virginia to North Dakota and he'll take it home to New York for Wrestlemania. Except.. not. Bischoff gives him a choice between a title shot and saving Trish from the wrath of the One Who Wears A Dish Towel. I noticed that nothing helps a face turn like calling Bischoff an asshole. Eric doesn't tolerate failure! We've got a match!

Y2J & RVD vs. Evolution (minus Trips) - No matter how many times I see Flair beg off and then pull the eye rake, it never gets old. Batista powerbombs Jericho on the outside. Evolution then works over the arm of RVD, which he ceases to sell after about two minutes. SELL THAT SHIT, ROB! Batista was in the ring for all of two minutes. Jericho pulls himself back onto the apron and gets the tag, gets Batista into the walls. Hee, god, Orton blew that RKO like a motherfucker. I thought his hands made contact with Jericho, though, wonder why he didn't sell it? Hrm. Orton with the pin. A good match aside from Orton's mistake.

Bischoff & Orton - A nice promo, Randy looked like he was shaking with anger. Mick will be in the building tonight, woo!

Jericho & Trish - Heh, so cute. Christian was God in this promo. "Straighten up and get your head out of your ass!"

Victoria w. Stevie & Lita vs. Molly Holly & Jazz w. Teddy Long - Lita still looks messy to me. Her headscissors takedown nearly bounced Jazz' neck off the bottom rope. Feh. Victoria looks good, I like the screaming. Slipped on the sunset flip, but recovered nicely. Jazz is such a good heel -- she hates everyone. "Come on, Molly, DO SOMETHING!" Pin by Victoria. Very good match. I know it's been said one hundred times before, but it bears repeating -- I fucking hate you, Lawler.

Vince Neil Triple H & HBK - Did Shawn even get a chance to talk? No matter, because SCSA is down on his Playskool quad-bike to uphold the law round these here parts. There's someone Trips forgot to factor in - Chris Benoit! Nice initial pop, although the crowd did quiet down too much as he made his way to the ring. Note to WWE: This does not mean he can't be over. Don't jump the fucking gun and depush him. I like Benoit's promo, and I think a hotter crowd would have done it more justice. He'll go over really well if the WWE will just give him time to build some damn heat. He's half-way there as it is.

Kane vs. Bubba Ray Dudley - Kane hits Bubba with the steps, tombstones Devon. The entire point of this match was to show the Undertaker video, which was SWEET. One thing the WWE can't be faulted for is their superb video production. And I think I caught a glimpse of The Dead Man in that montage. Hee, I'm stoked.

Bischoff & Heyman (via speakerphone) & Coach - Heh, I love Heyman. He's going to sue Bischoff, which is funny. I mean, Heyman is the man of the Infamous Bounced Paychecks, is he not? I know, I know, kayfabe and all, but it's still funny. Coach is in the wrong place at the wrong time, so it's going to be Coach and Goldberg, no disqualification.

Rob Conway w. Renee Dupree vs. Rico w. Miss Jackie - Rico has damn good eyeshadow. I'm just saying. Entire point of the match was for Jackie to flash her tits. Which was very nice, don't get me wrong, but it sent Lawler into overdrive, which is very bad. Feh.

Miss Jackie & Stacy Kiebler - Eh, okay? Whatever.

Coach w. Mark Henry & Teddy Long vs. Goldberg - Heh, Coach is good on the mic, but he's nothing compared to Teddy. Belie' dat, playa. Jackhammer on Mark, spear/jackhammer/pin on Coach. Goldberg is hunting Lesner's ass. I'm taking Goldberg seriously for the first time in a long time..

Mick Foley & Randy Orton - This promo alone made me SO FUCKING GLAD I decided to tune in last night. I haven't watched RAW or Smackdown for the last month, but this was enough to grab me and keep me. Foley was mesmerizing, and Randy's reactions were perfect. Bang, bang, my friends.. bang, bang. I would have sat through two hours of Viagra-on-a-pole matches to see this segment. I'm in total agreement with whoever said this should lead to Flair/Foley promos. That's gold in the making.

Overall? Wonderful show. I would've kicked myself had I missed it.

Jericho didn't let go of Batista, and he didn't fall forward. When they did the spot again (and with the added bonus of off-the-rope momentum), Jericho had to adjust, let go and drop. What should Orton have done to the first time to make it work? Seemed more like Jericho screwed up by not falling (much like Jackie Gayda not falling when Trish bulldoged her in their infamous match).

Also noticed Victoria piledriving herself on the sunset flip.

I'm a bit worried about the dead silence from the audience as Benoit made his case. Hopefully that's the crowd hinging on his every word. The last time Benoit was in a three-way for the belt in a PPV, the champ (Austin) retained.

I sound like a sourpuss. I liked the show, all in all. Foley. Old School 'Taker. Rico wins. A great tag-team opener. Christian tempts the Wrath of Jericho uh-GAIN. I really enjoyed it.

I agree with you about Jericho. I don't have it on tape either, but my initial thought was that it was Jericho's fault. I thought Orton got plenty enough of Jericho to go through with it. The guy taking the move has to go with it for it to work. I pretty sure if someone tried to RKO me, and I just stood there, the person trying to apply the move would look just as silly as Orton, and go flying off busting his ass. Randy had him by the head and had jump, but slipped off when Jericho refused to move. At least that's how it appeared to me (very similar to Trish-Jackie in my opinion).

-Jericho/Bischoff interview- Jericho comes out to his "Don't you wish you were me" CD originals song, which sounds like a total heel song but he's going for a babyface response. Jericho has a favor to use and he wants to use it TONIGHT, to get a world title shot against HHH. And will take the title and travel all across America on the Howard Dean express... Bischoff comes out and says Jericho does have a favor to grant but before he uses it he should know about the Trish vs. Kane match for later on. Jericho uses his favor to cancel the Trish/Kane match (even though he never really said it). Hey can't Bischoff just order the same match next week? Well Jericho is in a match and it's next

-Orton/Batista/Flair vs. Jericho/RVD- I dig the longer matches and this one went over 17-minute, with two of my favorite on the face side and Flair in the match I was pumped. But it never really delivered it seemed pretty disjointed and didn't really have a good flow. One story they did tell well is Jericho's struggle to get onto the apron after he got spinebuster on the floor by Batista. Jericho finally gets himself back in the match and gets the Walls on Flair just to have Orton "Gayda" up the RKO. Jericho stands up to allow Orton to try again. He's the future buh gawd!... I think it exposes the RKO as such a poor mans Stunner/Cutter. The move hardly even grabs the neck/head all it does is make your opponent fall forward and may or may not hit his chin on your shoulder Well big points for Batista selling the Wall like a pro after the finish.

-Victoria/Lita v. Molly/Jazz-Molly & Lita starts off but an excitable Victoria wants in "Tag me, tag me" Lita knows her role & does but Molly tags out to Jazz. They start off on the wrong foot with a sloppy sunset flip. But it picks up with Victoria hitting a standing moonsault, runs the ropes and Molly trips her up & Vic gets thrown to the outside as Stevie protects his woman from Long... Vic back in the ring and gets worn down by Molly & Jazz, Stevie tries his best to get the crowd behind Victoria! Lita stands in the corner like a slug, hey Lita your the Vet Face how about trying to get the crowd behind the newbie Face instead of standing there slouched over the ropes! Vic gets a tag to Lita who cleans house. Jazz attacks her to her corner as Vic tags herself back in. Lita and Jazz brawl to the outside as Victoria small packages Molly for the 3. Gotta love Jazz tagging Molly in & screaming "Now Do something Molly"

-HHH/HBK/Benoit interview- HHH comes out to remind us he's still champion, HBK comes out to remind us he's still here. Austin comes out with his ATV comes out to remind me how much I used to like him but now I can't stand him. Benoit comes out and reminds me that I should pay attention to what's going to happen... He says he wins the Royal Rumble and earned a World title shot and want's HHH title. Is he saying that HHH World title is more important then Lesner's WWE title and doesn't it seem like he's running away from his Heyman problems. And why if this is a surprise visit is he in his tights? So many questions, tune in next week!

-Bubba vs. Kane- What an odd little match, they made it feel like a "shoot" match. Just major clubbing forearms especially on Bubba's end. Kane gets Dq'ed for using the Steel Steps and D'von runs in just to get tombstoned... Kane gets ready for Firestarter posts but someone slipped in The Ring tape, OMG look away! Change the channel! Too late! Okay I'm a geek, I like that sort of Creepy Undertaker stuff. But I would laugh my ass off he just comes back and an American Badass LoL

-Rico vs. Conway- Is there a point of even commentating on this match. Rico does prances around there's some wrestling as Gayda is slipping out all over the place outside the ring. She's sure doing her best to change the term "Gayda" form messing up a move to having slips. What a mess. She climbs up and gives everyone a eye full to give Rico the pin... I gotta go with Jericholic53, even though there's a lot more amazing Raw women that I like much more then Gayda, I'm glad they don't do that. I've gone soft but I like them and respect my favorites too much to wish that on them. Heck I still think Gayda was overshadowed by Victoria cool white jacket and ring attire and Trish oh so cute warm long-sleeve shirt under her baby-Tee, she looked so snuggly LoL

-Coach interview- He's begging to get out of this match with Goldberg. Then one of the coolest entrance music in the fed hits and out comes Long and Henry... Long says there's too much haterizing from whitey and he'll give Mark Henry to the Coach for protection, You hear me!

-Goldberg vs. Coachman- Kinda with Henry doing most of the match. Henry actually kinda impressed me when he lifted the big man in a bear hug (Henry is slowly becoming a guilty pleasure of mine). Henry hits Goldberg down with some clubbing shots. Goldberg slams Henry as Herny rolls out of the ring and Goldberg focuses on Coach. Spears and Jackhammer(hey wasn't that a no-no) for the win... As for what Lillian said, I think she started in saying Jonathan but stopped at Jon then quickly recovered and said Goldberg. Give the girl a break, the previous match she had a front row seat and got an eye full of Gayda, that must have left her a little flustered.

-Foley/Orton interview- Foley once again recaptures the title of truly amazing promo man. Such real emotion, every word he said it sounded like it was really building inside. Calling Orton out and telling him to spit in his face again and after Orton did Foley downplays it like From all the stuff I've been threw you think you spitting in my face will have a major effect. Just awesome! When Foley tore a strip off him verbally looked like Orton was going to cry. Foley is a true master. You gotta love Foley saying, I know there's something GREEN in there Orton. haha

-OtherStuff- Trish looking very cuddly says to Jericho she appreciates him taking her out of the Kane match and wants to be friends. Christian walks in and as politely as possible to ask Trish to leave the dudes lockerroom. I've switched number of times to hot and cold on this angle. But I do love realism of this, Christian all of a sudden is really interesting in this angle as well. Him being nice to Trish then behind her back trashes her to Jericho LoL Hilarious! And an O.C reference, I had no idea the WWE is so current...

I too felt sad for Coach who didn't even get a cup of coffee in the PPV and interesting Heyman thinking Eric and Austin are playing good cop/bad cop... Maybe not great timing of Orton complaining about not being in the main event for WM moments after messing up his finisher... They showed a small clip of Lillian doing her WWE CD track from Confidential. Bonus!

-Line of the Night: Foley "I was bleeding in 6 continents while your still attached to your mothers breast"
-3Stars of the Night: 1)Foley. 2)Jericho. 3)Jazz.

This show was an mixed bag. Nothing in ring really worked or went over expectations but everything around it was really solid... Benoit coming in was a surprise for this week, Jericho/Christian/Trish was cute backstage. Undertaker Ring-like video was cool. And of course Foley's main event interview who he's like the only person who can legit pull off a main event interview.

smark/net attack wienerville advisory is lowered to YELLOW alert - Elevated (Due to Lesner still being champ, Benoit winning the Rumble, but HHH as champ is still a threat) 1/27

I'm pretty sure that the botched RKO was Jericho's fault, but who cares. If wrestling was "real" people would fuck up moves all the time, wouldn't they?

Christian surprised me once again. He's really really good. IMO the IWC should get behind him more than RVD, because of his work on the mic.

I enjoyed Jericho's Dean impression, but it is ORYGUN, damned Canuck.

Did anyone else get the sense of an impending HHH/HBK alliance? It seemed that when Benoit showed up, they resented his intrusion not so much as for the belt itself, but because this matter was "personal"?

I haven't read this whole thread, so some of this may already have been said.

I'm pleasently surprised at the lack of bitching at the spotlight being put on what is essentially, a non-wrestler (Foley).

A lof of the footage from the 'Taker video was lifted from the KOTR 2001 intro, which was a damn good one, even if most of the PPV sucked a dick.

To whomemever talked about smarks not liking the Taker/Foley HIAC: I didn't like it because it was essentially 2 big bumps and a bag of thumbtacks. 17 minutes total, with about 7 of actual action, plus the "story" behind it was that WWF didn't want Foley/Austin 3 PPV's in a row, and just switched Austin with Taker. I don't remember much of an actual build-up to that match.

Oh, how many Raw reviews does one thread need?

Count me as echoing the "Great job, Christian!" sentiments.. That's the first time I've honestly laughed out loud for more than a half-second at one of the WWE's supposed "comedy" bits.. And it was all in the delivery.. He really played the part of obnoxious third wheel jackass like a champ there.

Victoria looked great tonight and has probably suprassed Molly as my favorite in the women's division. White's my favorite color. I think she might do well to "turn down the crazy" a little bit now that she's supposedly a face... But "Tag me in! Tag me in!" was great.. Good character, very vocal, eager to get in the game and bash some heads. Jazz's "Do something, Molly!" was also nice.

Benoit - whatever. Never really cared much one way or the other about this guy. I guess this could be something to write home about but it will have to have major legs to keep me interested.

The Taker clip was cool. I'm enjoying the concept a lot given that most signs point to a more "undead" and less "american badass" Undertaker. Aside from Austin lately I can't remember a character I enjoyed seeing on me screen less than the 40-something, short-haired, do-rag wearing, motorcycle riding undertaker. Just about the most obnxious thing they can do is have a guy clumsily ride some vehicle around the ring EVERY freaking show. THROTTLE-brake-turn-THROTTLE-brake-turn-THROTTLE-brake-turn... God I hate that.

Sad to see Rico and Conway get no heat in what I thought was an alright match. Conway is really screwed because he doesn't get as much heel heat as Dupree, the "true" French guy. Conway just acts angry but Dupree has the smarminess (and the dance, the dance!) that really helps. As it was, there was about 30 seconds of "USA-USA" heat, plus a few laughs for Rico's comedy movies here and there, but once the first nip slip happened, Rico and Conway might as well have been reciting the St. Crispin's day speech to each other in there for all anyone cared. Too bad.

And great job by Orton. One of the first "understated" (by WWE standards) acting jobs I've seem in a long time, very appropriate in the context of the great promo by Foley. I shudder to think what HHH or the like would have done in the face of a promo like that. Not good times.

The Orton/Jericho spot was probably a combination of both. Orton snuck up on Jericho and was probably supposed to give him some sort of signal. Either he forgot or Jericho didn't hear him.

Orton's second attempt was weird though. He should have gotten up, nailed Jericho and hit the RKO. Instead he ran into the opposite ropes and hit it but that's just inexperience. He'll learn incase it ever happens again.

My first instinct was to put the blame on Orton, because it didn't look like he got enough of Jericho (handfull of hair maybe?). It seemed if Jericho sold it, it would've looked even more lame.

I don't know who's at fault, but wouldn't it stand to reason that since Jericho was facing the EntertainmentTron, that he'd be able to see Orton setting up for the RKO, and then get in position to take the move?

"Lawyer up." I've never quite heard it put that way before.

I'm inclined to think that, if I were Bill Goldberg, & if I decided to grow a beard that gave me chipmunk cheeks, I'd at least invest in the "Just for Men" beard & mustache colouring to cover up the grey. Just a thought.

I watched the Deadman video in slow motion, & there are at least 4 different images of classic Deadman/Phenom himself in there. (A skill honed recently on the Carnivale dream sequences. No cornfields in this one, however.) Also lots of Kane & the "gravesite" from Survivor Series. Not so sure why it leans quite so heavily on the snakes & rats images ...

Here, here. After Jackie exposed herself the only thing I could think of is, "I wonder what the women who actually care about wrestling feel about Jackie pushing them back about ten years." I'm sure they were thrilled as they sat backstage, beaten and bruised, and watching Jackie do a lame Kat, Part II act.
Pragmatically though, there is an upside. There will always be clamouring for T&A, so we (reluctantly) need to accept that as inevitable. However, right now, there are the "women wrestlers" & there are the "bimbos". That division of labour actually takes the pressure to do T&A off of the women wrestlers. Not ideal, but better than it might be...

Seemed more like Jericho screwed up by not falling (much like Jackie Gayda not falling when Trish bulldoged her in their infamous match).

Orton *barely* brushed Jericho's head on the 1st attempt, so it would have looked ridiculous for Jericho to sell it. Jericho probably didn't realize Orton was coming up the 1st time. Regardless, repeating it makes both guys look bad. Orton should have just kicked Jericho, and improvised another way to his the RKO.

I wondered if Randy got delayed somehow. Looked to me like Jericho was waiting for Randy, Randy didn't arrive quite when expected, Chris looked over at Flair selling to the side, & just as Chris turned his head away is when Randy arrived. C'est la vie. It was Chris who called "Do it again" to Randy. Can't say exactly why, but the whole thing didn't really bother me much.

Rotfl! That's what it reminds me of!!!

Christian -- beautifully slimy.

Orton -- good rage, very good confused terror.

Foley -- never ceases to amaze me.
