Terrible show, notable only for the excellent Jericho/Cena segment and the HBK heel turn. I guess we get Jericho/Cena and HBK/Hogan, with hopefully HBK going over Hogan, then moving on to a Cena/HBK program w/ Cena coming out on top. At least, that's what they should do.

And where's Benjamin been? He hasn't been on Raw for the last 2 weeks.

The landscape is ripe for Trip to jump into the #1 face mode, get the belt off of Jericho, and then build into a Mania feud with either Michaels or Angle.

Why on earth would they want to do that? They'd effectively be burying their #1 star (Cena). Jericho won't be going over Cena, so forget about that. HBK/HHH has been done to death, so hopefully they don't go that route. I don't know how many people would buy into HHH as a face, either. How would they turn him? There's just way too many holes in your scenario.

As funny as it is, I cant see Chavo having a job in a year from now.

He's Eddie's nephew, and good friends w/ Rey. I can't see Chavo being fired. Being made a (bigger) jobber, but he won't be fired.

Hogan on the Cabana was kept surprisingly short. He seems like a nutjob father, but I'll be tuning in Sunday night....Edge/Snitsky and Kane/Show was good- everybody kept their heat, except for Snitsky, but he sucked anyway....The Heartthrobs/Viscera was pretty dumb- I thought that angle would've ended at Vengeance- unless Lillian gets together with Mark Henry....

Kerwin White? Jesus. The way he was dressed, I hope he starts hanging out with the Mean Street Posse....Nice of WWE to put out a PSA in the middle of their show....Boy, Jericho is really hanging onto that "First ever undisputed champion" moniker, isn't he? What have you done for me lately?....

The less said about the Diva Search, the better. Slaughter didn't even get to punch Coach, which disappointed me....Dupree can't even beat Venis clean?....Michaels turns heel? That makes NO sense (to me, anyway). Does this mean Hogan will be brought back again?

That might have been the first time I enjoyed the show in more than a year.

As Asteroid Boy recently pointed out to me, I am by no means a workrate mark, so I lean more toward the entertainment than the sports. Having said that, Cena seems to inspire more energy than anyone since Rock, Carlito is a very strong character, Angle is reverting back some to Nerd Angle (which is very good), and Maria is absolutely adorable. I usually hate the Diva Search, but this one was pretty damn funny, if for no other reason than watching the skinny girl in the American Gladiators costume trying to do jumping jacks. And the very rare ending that not only surprised me, but actually has me wondering about what HBK will say and do next week.

My one criticism has already been voiced: After everything they put into building him up, how do they not address the fact that Batista is gone and the whole championship paradigm has changed.

I marked slightly for the Edge/Snitsky double shoulderblock, a bright spot in what was otherwise a blah Big Show-gets-his-knee-worked-on-fest. Probably meant homage a Road Warriors.

I dunno, I think "Kerwin White" might be fun. Chavo's done more with less in the past. The question is whether he's actually going to be allowed to wrestle or whether it's going to be a joke character a la Simon Dean.

Two weeks of no Shelton on Raw (clips in the opening credits aside) and counting. If it goes much longer, I'll know who got screwed the worst by the reshuffle.

So the big selling point of Hogan Knows Best is Hogan's hot jailbait daughter? Because they didn't hammer that point home -quite- hard enough.

The Diva Search was entertaining enough, thanks to all the copious unintentional comedy. Still way too long, though.

I guess the WWE spent too much time plugging Hogan on the Cabana and the DivaCrap to remember there was 2 hours of show to fill..

..Chavo, if you can change your name to anything in the world...why would you pick Kerwin??..

..no HHH again YIPPEE!!..

And the line of the night: I did what I always do, I bitched and moaned until I got my way. What do you bet Michaels threw that bone to us smarks as a deliberate reference to the Clique days when HBK would do precisely that?

Indeed, that potential reference to smarks was first thing that came to mind when he made the comment. If we don't get a "shoot comments that aren't supposed to be shoot comments" from Scott Keith and maybe some others tonight, I for one will be surprised. But I do feel that this was meant to sort of be a shoot comment, and its not the first time I've seen Michaels poke fun of his web/dirtsheet reputation. Its one of the things I like about him.

Keeping in mind that I'm the quite the naive individual, I was actually a bit shocked by his heel turn. Yet despite being thrown off, it wasn't too long before I found myself embracing the hell out of it...marking like I haven't in a good while. There was an Eddie Guerrero vibe to the way he pulled it off but he did it just as well. These two are just so good at selling emotion, and I'd love to see them in a program together before all is said and done. But in the meantime I guess we're getting Michaels vs Hogan, which isn't too shabby itself. Man, who would ever take the pin here? I mean Hogan has jobbed to Savage but Michaels these days makes Savage look like Andre. Must be odd for him to be the 'youngster' in a program.

Very entertaining RAW tonight, at least IMHO. A few stray thoughts, if I may:

Based as his remarks to Hogan it seems that Angle is moving on from married women to teenage girls. I'll let others decide if that makes him more of a heel or more of a face with the WWE audience.

I personally loved Big Show bumping big time in tonight's opening tag team match. I also liked the head pat Show got from Kane at the end of the match; good to see that the monster Kane has a soft spot for seven-foot giants. However, the real highlight of the match was seeing Kane leaping from the top rope and connecting with his blow before his feet hit the mat. At least, that's how it looked to me watching it as it happened (I have neither TIVO nor DVR). Could someone confirm this for me? Because if I saw this correctly, then I believe this is a first for Kane.

See, and people were worried that they wouldn't find something for Chavo, errr, Kerwin, to do on RAW. Not only does this give him a new identity to build up, but it also sets up the possibility of him returning to Smackdown somewhere down the line to feud with The Mexicools once The Mexicools make their inevitable face turn. Speaking of which

I mean, I'm not offended, but that sure seems to be the goal of WWE. Very curious, in my opinion.
Now, I may be totally mis-reading The Mexicools gimmick, but I don't see them as a portrayal of how "uncool it is to be Hispanic", but rather of how "uncool" the negative stereotypes are, and how The Mexicools are going to fight against them and make people change the way they think, even if they have to take over Smackdown to do it. At least, that's the way I see it.

As for my own candidate for the line of the night:

Coachman:Alexis, you're up.
JR: She's not the only one.

Oh, and on the topic of Diva Search 2005:

Look, I don't know a whole lot about Freudian psychology, but I think your sub-conscience mind was trying to tell you something there.

Finally, big props to Alpha Dog for predicting the ending to tonight's program move than two months in advance. And I agree with hhhgamewmx7; HBK's promo next Monday should kick major ass.

It's not a first. Kane tends to be a bit less cautious with the Big Red Clothesline when he's hitting it on someone his size. I can recall matches with the Big Show where he just plowed straight into TBS.

- Bikini BOOB camp. Lame. The wardrobe malfunction was planned. Cheap pop for the fans in attendance. It wasn't blurred in San Diego, what I saw was red glittery stickers covering areola. Planned I tell ya.

- Chavo gimmick. To early for me to evaluate. Chavo pulled off Pepe, I thought Pepe was lame at first but eventually, I too wanted a riding horse. It may work it may not.

-Cena. The only time I liked the dude was when he came out for the Kurt invotational. Other than that I've always hated his gimmick. With that said, I see how he feeds off the fans, I smell shades of what the Rock was cooking. My opinion is changing on Cena, I hate to admit it, but its true, its damn true.

- Michael's heel turn. Perfect. We all (I don't mean to speak for us all, but..) expected the turn closer to mania for a super match. Classic pro wrestling story telling. Especially for Hogan. Build the friendship, create a tag team, lose a big match, turn on your partner and let the egos collide. Orndorff, Savage, NWO (WCW days, I forget who it was in this case, Nash?) amoung others. I was glad to see this happen especially since it wasn't "leaked".

Triple H - Awesome tonight, possibly his best performance since the Nation of Domination skit!

Great character development for the soap theme. Wrestlingwise I give it a C-. The show should have been better with the new lineup.

How often does Kane get a TT partner who can whip him into the corner? :-) Cute.

Uhh, isn't somebody supposed to come to Lilian's ... aid .. sometime around here? Uhhh, Shelton?

Well... There was one good thing about the Diva Shit (TM) taking forever [/Pollyanna mode] -- last week in Anaheim was just about as long & I had time to go to the ladies', get a beer & a hot dog, get back to my seat, finish my hot dog & half of my beer ... all with *plenty* of time before anything useful happened. At least til next week, we can pretend its just a westCoast-SuperShow thing. And risking a second Pollyanna-rating, I thought the kick/fall was a bump, rather than a Goldberg-SummerSlam-Ass-Fall. As much as I hate to type this, I'll have to check the TiVo.

Was it just me, or was Kurt channelling Nixon's "I am not a crook" during that promo?

You know, I'm not a fan of Shawn Michaels. But I gotta admit, with his line about bitching and whining to get his way, and then his awesome heel turn tonight, I can't help but admit that he's extremely interesting to me as a wrestling fan for the first time in years. I heard a lot of inklings about Shawn turning on Hogan around Backlash, but I never thought it was actually going to happen. I saw an interview Shawn did where he said with his born-again-ness, he doesn't have the hate in him to be a heel. Maybe that was just a red herring, because he really pulled it off tonight. Way better than Guerrero's turn for a couple reasons. For one, Eddie's was way more obvious and was coming for months. Two, I like Rey, but no way in hell could he stir the emotions in people that Hogan can.

With Jericho and Cena feuding, two of my favourite personalities, I can't help but watch.

I predict all the divas will be hired, except the Black one. Gotta keep tradition alive.

Chavo's gimmick would be more acceptable if he wasn't a Guerrero, but he is. His family is a wrestling dynasty. You've got the Von Erichs, the Funks, the Harts and the Guerreros (the Armstrongs clearly belonging well below these families in impact/importance). Having a fucking Guerrero denounce his heritage when he's part of one of the premiere wrestling families in the history of the business is just too disrespectful to be entertaining. It smacks of bonehead, not-even-good-enough-for-Kimmel, writers not knowing enough about wrestling history not to shit on it. Unless this leads to Chavo reaffirming his heritage and embracing it with a renewed vigour and becoming the big Mexican on RAW, which I'm sure it won't, it's an idiotic move. It is insulting to those of us who love wrestling and follow it, a million times more insulting than the Diva Search or Katie Vick. Those are just bad ideas. This is downright hideous.

I didn't mind RAW last night; I spent most of the evening divided between the show and playing an interestingly addictive game I found on an old shareware CD I own: Rummy 500.

I can't believe I missed the wardrobe malfunction last night; I'm hoping some shots surface on the 'net soon. (Heck, I'm still looking for shots of that Nitro Girl who lost her top from years ago, but with no luck)

I ***LOVED*** the HBK superkick; however, Michaels looked miserable afterward. I think that he was forced into it. When Guerrero turned on Rey, at least there was some mild satisfaction on his face. Michaels looks just plain sad.

No HHH this week makes me a happy man.

Cena vs. Jericho could be a good summer series.

I still mark out for Hogan. I'm not getting tired of him...yet.

Jonathan Coachman continues to impress me every week. And, I can't believe I'm saying this, but I will miss Marc Loyd's "AMAZING NEWS!!!11!!!oneoneone" updates every week. I guess they'll give it to Steve Romero or someone else.

Question: do the folks watching on Spike TV get those house show updates too?

It makes me want to watch and see what Chavo does with it, because Chavo can even make an Amway gimmick interesting. I hear what you're saying, though.

I've already said I like Rene Dupree's current work, but I was disappointed with his match last night. It's possible the diva segment went too long (making the voting segment happen after a commercial seems like bad planning), and they had to cut their bout short.

And as much as we all love HBK's turn -- and how 'bout that SWEET Chin Music -- kudos to Hogan for totally selling it. As JR shouted repeatedly, he was OUT. Not rolling around, shaking the cobwebs, or holding his head. No sir, Hogan laid down for the kick and stayed down. Good for him.

I only got to catch bits and pieces of Raw because I was working during most of it, but I finished working just in time to catch Hogan legdrop Carlito. I was just about to stop and rewind the tape I had running so I could see the rest of Raw when HBK superkicked the tar out of Hogan. I never thought Michaels would be a heel again.

The best part of that Superkick was not only that it looked beautiful and absolutely out of nowhere from the camera angle the WWE caught it from, but the second Michaels foot connected with Hogan's chin "Real American" was silenced. It's as if the second Hogan lost consciousness his music died, like it was connected to his life force or something. Absolutely hilarious. XD

Also, to everyone who is wondering what Michaels motivation was, could it be as simple as HBK being annoyed that Hogan wrestled two weeks in a row only a few months after Michaels begged him for one last match?

Or maybe he really just wants to go out with Brooke.

Kerwin was also the guy in the truck during the infamous home invasion angle. You know, point of order.

I feel for Chavo, he's made the ludicrous awesome before, but this looks like a turd even he can't polish. Though the pastel sweater was nice. You think the prop depatment got Rick Martel's spring collection out of the mothballs?

One more vote for "Already tired of Hogan". Lost in the superkick shuffle was the fact that Carlito had to sell the big boot like death for 45 minutes while Hogan posed. Spare me. There's only so far my suspension of disbelief can go.

I dont think Michaels was forced into it. That could just have been part of his characters motivation for it. He likes Hogan. He respects Hogan. But seeing Hogan come out, week after week, he knows that Hogan may be thinking of coming out of retirement completely, so hes trying to stop him from making a mistake. Maybe throw in some "Think of your family" aspects of it. Generally, that makes for the best sort of heel: the one who's doing bad things because he feels it's right.

Of course, the whole point of the kick was to leave us guessing at his motivations, so Id have to say a job well done on the closing angle, even if the rest of the show was lackluster.
