" Oops. You are SO right, gugs. Yet again, I am humbled.

Great - my quote has to be about me admitting to being stupid. :)

Some people have really witty signatures. I am not one of those people.

I finally found mine today after about 25 refreshes or so. I was arguing with redsoxnation & some other folks (I forget who else, sorry) about whether or not the Iraqi UN ambassador should still being in the U.S. after the war started.

I was kinda hoping mine would be witty or funny or at least zany or something.

And the first quote I saw from me was a post in the wrong thread.

So I followed it to see my quote in context and I was nowhere near understanding it any better.

They really should be on the top on every page.

Just a quick refresher on the word "random"

There are about 297260 posts and rising (give or take) that could be picked - the first month's worth of posts didn't have the header and signature separated from the main body of text and I was too lazy to work around it, so they're out. Posts that were deleted or posted to the test forum or THIS forum were also taken out of the pool, but everything else is available. So any given post has about a .00033% chance of being at the bottom of this page. Yes, the random number generator works in strange ways and I've seen lots of coincidences too, but believe me it REALLY is random. No, really, it IS, so stop asking me if I was so clever to plan for a particular excerpt from a particular post to be aligned with the display of a particular thread, because I wasn't.

Don't like a particular quote of yours from the past? All the advice I can offer is if you'd thought about it THEN, you wouldn't be embarrassed NOW. So maybe you can think about what you're putting into your NEXT post ahead of time and pre-emptively strike.

More likely, this'll all be forgotten about in a week and I'll have to have some OTHER kooky idea to inflate our pageviews. ;-)

Oh, that reminds me - I gotta go put some ads on the Random Quote page...

What are the odds of getting more than one quote on the random quote page? I dig, but it wouldn't hurt my feelings to see 5 or 10 on that page instead of just one. Maybe you could make it a user defined attribute.-- or not. Just a suggestion....

This could be a nice line to add to user profiles (i.e. "Random quote from Mr Heel II") if that part of it could be coded to the specific user.

You KNOW some people would just sit on their profile page and hit "Refresh" to be entertained by their own quotes over and over.

Imagine my surprise when the second quote from me turned out to be a post about how excited I was for Wrestlemania XXI for X-Box. Of course, that thread made everyone who posted in it into sad, diappointed, broken shells of gamers in the end.

Any news on moving the quotes to the top of the table on the rest of the pages?

There are no plans to do this. If you're dying to see quotes, there is a page with nothing but a quote on it - "Random Quote" - if you pull up a thread page, we're hoping you're most interested in reading the thread and then MAYBE interested in looking at the random quote.

On another note, random *individual* quotes have been added to profile pages for people who have posted - which means if you click on someone's profile, you'll be "treated" to a random quote of theirs as part of the profile. (If you haven't posted, I'm sure this will NOT give you any additional incentive.)

Did you change what happens when you click on a random quote? I seem to recall when it first came out it would go directly to that post. Now it just goes to the top of the thread that the quote was in. Or maybe I'm crazy.

EDIT: Ah I see. Firefox goes directly to the post, but IE does not.

Incidentally, this is going to mess up the search engines even more.

I happened to notice that this morning. First quote of mine that I noticed, which was in a thread about the legalities of the Hulk Hogan name and if it'll have an affect on WWE DVDs...

"It'd be weird seeing Andre The Giant get slammed at WrestleMania III by a big gob of blur... "

Nothing's changed, except perhaps your browser's behaviour or how patient you are letting the page finish loading before you start scrolling.

If you take things out of context (like CRZ's intentional playing with words there) this is the greatest feature ever.

It's so nice to see that even almost two years later, people still completely missed my point.

Are we REALLY talking about the computer systems from the 80s? :-)

As as side note: when I get my retroactive computer system collection up and running again, a Wang is the first thing on my list.

Something else occured to me that I think would be a minor improvement on the current format for the Random Quotes. How would you feel about adding the date of the quoted post?

*listening*
Sure, I can see it by clicking on the link.
*listening*
No. I know you have other things to do.
*listening*
Well, yeah, I'm sure the Mrs. would like to see you once in a while.
*listening*
Yes, sir. I'm sorry.

But THEN CRZ's beloved message board wouldn't get the much-anticipated hit from ME wondering exactly WHEN WAS IT that I could type something that NOW looks as ludicrous, as, say, I don't know, "Arturo Gatti could maybe beat Floyd Mayweather."

FWIW, Mozilla 1.7.2 looks wrong in the same way as Firefox. What's even weirder: On the Reply page, where the previous threads are summarised, it's wrong in both Cubs' original, & CRZ's quote thereof.
