ANYBODY who couldn't see that Brady fumbled that ball is blind. It was COMPLETELY clear. The ref(s) who made the decision should be fired immediately. No ref should decide a game, ESPECIALLY a PLAYOFF game.

I don't post in the Football section, but after watching this game...I have to voice my anger somehwere! If this was Brazil, that ref would be dead!

A Montreal-quality screwjob? That's a bit much. It was a bad call, though - and it's ruining the accuracy of my picks!

Are you kidding me? The arm was going forward there for it equals a fumble. For all the waffling Phil Simms did, there really isn't a lot of grey area on this rule. I thought it was a forward pass when I saw the original play, and after seeing the replay I still think this based on the forward motion of the arm.

If the arm was going forward, which it WAS. That's an incomplete pass. That's not the issue. The issue is whether the ball was dropped (thrown) out of Brady's hand or knocked. Woodson (was it Woodson, I didn't noticed the name, and all the news people were more focused on who picked it up?) CLEARLY hit Brady's chest...not the ball. Therefore, incomplete pass.

If the arm was still going forward, wouldn't that have made it an incomplete pass? The problem was that Brady didn't release the ball - he held on to the ball until it touched his chest, and lost his grip on it a moment later, which would be a fumble.

Irregardless, the best part of the "Snow Bowl" was when Gibson lost track of where he was and downed a punt in the end zone.

I would have sworn on a stack of bibles that Brady took his free hand and held it to the ball, thus putting both his hands on the ball and ending whatever pass attempt he might have been making before he had the ball knocked the hell out of his hand.

There, I feel better now.

i only caught a replay on espn [worked 10 hours saturday, and my video store was BUSY with the snow storm here in the DC area] and it for me, it was hard to tell if he touched his chest or hand with the ball [fumble] or if it was a forward pass...but i only saw it once...

that's why i'd hate to ref in the NFL...this play was soooo close it could go either way...and it will be second guessed for weeks...

It was plain and clear! He went back to throw it, then brought it back down next to his chest and put his other hand on it. So he was either faking the throw or decided not to throw it. Unless he has some weird ass mechanics where he throws the balls with the ball at his side. If he was going to go through with the pass, he would've released it before Woodson even got there.

While my first reaction was the same as everyone else's (fumble!), our esteemed team of football commentators did say that if the QB "tucks" the ball, it's considered an incomplete pass. That might be a stupid rule, but by that rule, it was definitely an incomplete.

Well then either the commentators are wrong or the referee has gotten that call wrong every time i've seen it in the past. Because that would mean anytime someone fakes a pass and then doesn't pass it. And then gets tackled and loses it is an incomplete pass. I've seen this happen a hundred times and it's always been a fumble.

Well, the only person who knows the truth is Tom Brady. Do you really think he'll say "Yep, I pulled it back into my hands."? Franco Harris won't tell anyone if the ball hit the ground during the Immaculent Reception, so will we ever know?

According to the NFL's Head of Officiating on ESPN Countdown this morning, it is incomplete if the arm is going forward NO MATTER WHAT until the ball is 100% tucked away. So you can say the Raiders got screwed, but not by the refs, they got screwed by the rule.

Of course, *you* can say that, all I'm saying is GO PATRIOTS!! That and "Sorry for doubting you Tom Brady."

The Raiders had twenty-seven seconds, two timeouts, Jerry Rice, Tim Brown and Sebastian Janikowski.

For SOME reason, Gruden thought it'd be a good idea to just down the ball and go to overtime.

Don't tell me the Raiders didn't screw themselves.

They DESERVED to lose with boneheaded decision making like THAT.

wellllllllllllll..... the NFL said they would look into the rule and maybe we will get some changes that might be better for the game... but as for the raiders game..... they were screwed by the rule... and there really isn't anything they can do about it.... maybe the nfl will modify it into something that is a little clearer and easier for us to understand and agree with.

You're right the only one who knows whether Tom Brady was passing it or not was Tom Brady. And since after the play he didn't argue that it was an incomplete pass that tells me that it was a fumble.

But yeah, according to the rule it may have been in incomplete pass. But since we're on the subject of playing it by the rules. According to the rulebook the referees can't overturn a decision unless there was CRYSTAL CLEAR evidence. There wasn't, so they shouldn't have overturned it.

As for the Raiders screwing themselves. yeah they should've gone for it with at the end of the game but if they weren't screwed by the refs they wouldn't have to.
