Jimmie Johnson is your winner and can make history next week in Miami Homestead. Chad Knaus(Head Crew) deserves credit even if he does cheat for getting the crew back together after a near diaster in TX last week. What I mean was Jimmie Johnson had a destroyed car after wreck last week but with teamwork was able back on the track for some laps in a kight rider look last week. Here are the standings this week courtesy nascar.com.

RANK +/- DRIVER POINTS BEHIND STARTS POLES WINS TOP 5 TOP 10
1 -- Jimmie Johnson 6492 Leader 35 3 7 15 23
2 -- Mark Martin 6384 -108 35 7 5 14 21
3 -- Jeff Gordon 6323 -169 35 1 1 16 24
4 -- Kurt Busch 6281 -211 35 0 2 9 20
5 -- Tony Stewart 6207 -285 35 0 4 15 23
6 -- Juan Montoya 6203 -289 35 2 0 7 18
7 -- Greg Biffle 6171 -321 35 0 0 10 16
8 -- Denny Hamlin 6140 -352 35 1 3 14 19

Que?

I don't understand your logic. How did they 'cheat' this time? I know Knaus has been caught red-handed before for major rules violations. But all he did at Texas was repair a car several laps down to keep his teammates and chase contenders from gaining more ground on him. It's been done many times before. In fact, Benny Parsons did that at Rockingham (with the help of crew members from other opponents to boot) to win the title in 1975.

You really want to tell Benny (god rest his soul) that he 'cheated'? That he should give up his title? That's just mean. While you're at it, why don't you kick some kittens, steal some puppy's candy, or drown some babies? No, wait, that's not how it goes. Aw hell, it's a site influenced by pro wrestling, I'll use wrestling jargon. While you're at it, why don't you go push the stunt granny or rip up a kid's autograph book (of course paying them the appropriate amount in money/pizza) ?

In all seriousness, I agree that Johnson, Knaus, and co. deserve a ton of credit for rebounding from last week and basically locking up the title. I don't see him winning at Homestead next week but I don't see him finishing 25th (what he needs to clinch) or worse either.

I only have one other (rather stupid) question to ask: Was that Sgt. Slaughter at the driver introduction line during prerace? First the Coyotes game, now this. That man gets around the Phoenix sporting scene.

I didn't see him today but I DO know he was at the Nationwide race (and was on TV congratulating Carl Edwards after his win in that race).

You did not notice I said "IF he cheated" the key word "If". Not saying he(Knaus) did. I've said this before if the goal of the COT's and the Chase was to make it Anti-Hendrick, well its not working. The Hendrick glass ceiling lives on!

On that thought it was not to long ago when Tony Stewart was in the pts lead, then he went up in Smoke.

Yep. he was the "honorary race official" and rode in the pace car for Driver Introductions

We'll be back right after order has been restored here in the Omni Center.

DW said it really well on Wind Tunnel last night: the problem with parity is that it leads to dominance if one team gets an edge over the rest. It's pretty clear the 48 team is the best one in NASCAR by at least a little bit,but everyone else is kind of stuck together with nobody having broken out to catch up.

Call me one of those on the anti-Hendrick bandwagon - but that's because I don't care for the constant coverage of them everywhere. Lord knows drivers like Robbie Gordon deserve as much coverage as Jeff Gordon. Yahoo's NASCAR page is pretty much Hendrick all the time. It's sick.

Oh, and thinking of Hendrick, one question: what's it going to take to see Johnson NOT win the Cup championship? I think, in the Nationwide Cup, the only thing that would cause Kyle Busch not to win would be to just not race - but I'm not sure about Johnson.

According to some newspaper site I just read, if Mark Martin gets maximum points (wins and leads most laps) AND Johnson finishes lower than 25th, Mark Martin is your champion.

Here's an even better one over at Y! Sports (sports.yahoo.com).

Figure Jimmie will lead lap 1 after winning the pole and he's only got to finish 27th or better. Here's a handy cheat sheet for the race.

- If Mark wins and lead the most laps, Jimmie is still champion with 25th OR 27th with a lap led.

- If Mark wins and doesn't lead the most laps, Jimmie is still champion with 27th OR 28th and a lap led OR 30th and the most laps led.

- If Mark finishes 2nd and leads the most laps, Jimmie is still champion with 30th OR 32nd with a lap led.

- If Mark finishes 2nd and leads a lap (but not the most laps) OR finishes 3rd and leads the most laps, Jimmie is still champion with 32nd OR 33rd with a lap led OR 35th with the most laps led.

- If Mark finishes 2nd and does not lead a lap OR finishes 3rd and leads a lap (but not the most laps) OR finishes 4th and leads the most laps, Jimmie is still champion with 33rd OR 35th and a lap led OR 37th and the most laps led.

- If Mark finishes 3rd and does not lead a lap OR finishes 4th and leads a lap (but not the most laps) OR finishes 5th and leads the most laps, Jimmie is still champ with 35th OR 37th and a lap lead OR 38th and the most laps led.

- If Mark finishes 4th and does not lead a lap OR finishes 5th and leads a lap (but not the most laps) OR finishes 6th and leads the most laps, Jimmie is still champ with 37th OR 38th and a lap lead OR 40th and the most laps led.

- If Mark finishes 7th and leads the most laps, Jimmie is still champ with 38th OR 40th and a lap lead OR 41st and the most laps led.

- If Mark finishes 5th and does not lead a lap OR finishes 6th and leads a lap (but not the most laps), Jimmie is still champ with 38th OR 40th and a lap lead OR 42nd and the most laps led.

- If Mark finishes 8th and leads the most laps, Jimmie is still champ with 39th OR 41st and a lap lead OR 43rd and the most laps led.

- If Mark finishes 7th and leads a lap (but not the most laps), Jimmie is still champ with 40th OR 41st and a lap lead OR 43rd and the most laps led.

- If Mark finishes 6th and does not lead a lap, Jimmie is still champ with 40th OR 42nd and a lap lead OR 43rd and the most laps led.

- If Mark finishes 9th and leads the most laps, Jimmie is still champ with 41st OR 42nd and a lap lead OR 43rd and the most laps led.

- If Mark finishes 8th and leads a lap (but not the most laps), Jimmie is still champ with 41st OR 43rd and a lap lead.

- If Mark finishes 7th and does not lead a lap OR finishes 10th and leads the most laps, Jimmie is still champ with 42nd OR 43rd and a lap lead.

And finally...

- If Jimmie finishes 43rd and does not lead a lap, Mark wins the championship if AT WORST he finishes either 7th with no laps led OR 9th with one lap lead (but not the most laps led) OR 10th with the most laps led.
