Joel Quenneville will return to the franchise he began his NHL coaching career with in 1994-95 as the fourth head coach in Colorado Avalanche and 12th in franchise history. Tony Granato, who has been the head coach for the last season and a half, will work along with Jacques Cloutier as assistant coaches to Joel Quenneville.

Any Avalanche fans wanna chime in on this? Seeing as he was so underwhelming here in St Louis, I found it hard to imagine he would get a head coaching job with a pretty decent team, I always figured he would latch on someplace like New York, or someplace else where the talent wasnt performing or they had a lot of young players.

Underwhelming?

Dude, he was an awesome coach and St. Louis is retarded for letting him go.

If you have talent like the blues went out and got, and all you can manage is ONE confrence final appearance out of it, that isnt being a GREAT coach.

In his (or his record's) defense, the West was STACKED at the time, what with Colorado, Detroit, and Dallas up there every year.

I would have gladly taken him to be our coach in NY though I am not unhappy at all with the lifting of the interim tag from Tom Renney.

He was underwhelming...he is no different of a coach then Jacques Martin. The Avs took a step forward in replacing Granato, but they aren't going anywhere soon.

As someone else said, the Conference had some awesome teams and the blues never went out and got even a decent goalie.

And if you're going by those standards, when have the Blues ever had a "great" coach, considering they've never won it all?

I'm surprised Granato stayed on as an assistent... Quenneville is a big media darling in these parts, but I haven't seen too much of him to warrent such praise.

I am surprised with Rafalski's retirment too, but he won't be the only Red Wing to retire. I fully expect Lidstrom to retire, and possibly Modano and Bertuzzi as well.
