I just started using Safari and on some pages of The W I'm seeing little blue boxes with white question marks. Sometimes it's in place of an avatar, but I've also seen it where someone has posted an image, or in a sig, or even where the Aussie flag should be, though I can see US flags just fine. Is there some setting I need to tweak to fix this?

I use Safari, and I've seen none of what you're talking about on this board. But on other sites, I've seen it, and I think it's the equivalent of a broken link. I've looked at the same page in a different browser, and that seems to hold true. Perhaps it's a weird firewall-type thing?

Apache logs -v- The views table which is updated via a mysql query as the page is generated. There shouldn't be any pages on the site that don't call that query, unless.... maybe the FAQ. Still, I doubt there are 14,000 views of the FAQ.
