What do you think the Glazers' purchase of the Los Angeles Dodgers means for the future of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers?

Because of the NFL's Stone Age-like rigid ownership rules, in all likelihood the Glazers will be forced to commit to sell the Bucs before the NFL'll permit them to accept this deal. No other major sports league in America has such rules. (This would be so much easier if Malcolm's baseball bug had urged him to buy the Devil Rays, instead - that's the only exception the NFL has granted in the past, the second team being in the same town.) Who would be on the short list to buy the Bucs? What impact would this have on our personnel strategy? So many questions...

All I know is I'm praying that either the NFL gets a brain and doesn't force Malcolm to sell, or that the new owner isn't a penny pincher. God knows I loathe the Bidwell and Sterling types...

Why would Glazer want to sell the Bucs? They're a more profitable venture than a baseball team, even one in LA.

Because he thinks he might be able to make even more money on owning an LA NFL team, even though he'll never have the money to buy one anymore.

Obviously I fail to meet the requirements of this thread, but let me offer an opinion. The NFL will approve Glaser's purchase of the Dodgers (assuming MLB owners do the same). This will allow an existing NFL owner to move into the LA market (not literally with the Buccaneers) to further explore whether LA wants an NFL franchise. If this works out, I'd expect to see something there in 3 or so years (about the time that the TV deal is up again). At that point, Glaser would have to sell the Bucs.

Hopefully the team stays strong in the mean time, and you can find a good local owner.

I dont think Al Davis and whoever owns the Chargers will allow another NFL team owner to move into town. Beside, on ESPN they were talking about how the Bucs are worth 500-600 million and the Dodgers would cost a couple hundred million to buy, but the owner is only worth about 700 million. So, if he gets 600 mil from the bucs sale, spends 200 mill on the dodgers (low estimeate) that leaves him 1.1billion dollars. The NFL is expected to make the next franchise pay a Billion franchise fee. That leaves Glazer with "only" 100 million to run two teams. It aint gonna happen!

Yet another reason why I'm so glad my beloved Packers have thousands (cue the fans: "...AND THOUSANDS") of owners. We never, ever have to worry about sh*t like this.
